Kouji ran a hand through his hair as he stood there, staring at the pokemon and then back at Ollie, it was a difficult choice but he sighed. He really did enjoy that short little conversation, but the battle would come in the end. ”Well, guess we’ve both gotta do our jobs, huh?”

The pokemon he brought out was Samurott, always a good start to have in a fight. ”So what, you got a special reason for fighting ‘ere?” He said as he patted the top of Samurott’s head before he ordered the pokemon to attack. ”Route 1.”

An Aqua Jet aimed at the Orbeetle, water surged up from Samurott’s feet before jumping up and swirling around him in a tight mesh, before he was propelled at jet-like speeds.

The fleshy, boney parts came out of his back; it was gruesome but it resulted in him simply falling onto his back, a loud thud echoed in the place for a moment before Kouji groggily regained his whereabouts, Umbreon next to him nuzzling his head before he sat up. A small sigh escaped his lips as he sat up and looked forward.

So that happened?

”Ugh…Feels like I was just a punching bag.” It was a pitiful display in all truth, but he couldn’t really stay down, especially with a ship like this. The two he saw were Lulu and Temp, but he went up to his friend Tempest Quinn first. ”Sorry about that, and thanks for the punch.” He said as he patted him on the shoulder while walking past him.

”Feel up to testing out a new kinda ship, bet it’ll be a challenge even for you.” He hobbled as he walked, keeping up a strong front. It sucked, but at the same time.

There was no point in rolling over, and showing his belly even if they were this far in wasn’t something he wanted to do.

It was a tough call, in that he couldn’t retain his thoughts whatsoever, the hazes and shadows of people whose names he couldn’t recall. It was strange, all he could think about was standing up, holding himself upwards, and answering that call…

With no thoughts in mind, he simply moved, but he felt a sharp impact, a pain that struck him directly, familiar but far more sharp as he was avoided. Tempest Quinn had struck true, his blow seemed to shake Kouji’s head for a moment.

”Arghaaa.” It was a moan that didn’t represent anything but the gradual resurgence of consciousness, he could feel it in his guts, that something wasn’t right…But he didn’t want to thi-

Still, that rock sat in his stomach as he moved, towards a ship, guided by a voice that wasn’t his, moved by words that weren’t even his allies. To no longer think, to follow the simple orders of another person…

Did he really want to live like that again?

It was a stray thought, a passing belief, but Kouji pushed onwards, against his own mind. A singular punch, a sharp pain, it was the first bit of help he needed. As he fought against his own body, Kouji rushed towards the ship. Part of him wished to leave this place, return back to rocket.

But the Toxic Chain that carried him had only one goal, to stand on his own and take out the everyone else, so he ran towards that ship, on the strange chain that were his legs.

Empty was a way to put it, but Kouji could understand, he only did it because downtime existed, but he liked to work, put himself into it. ”You can find a new hobby later.” He said with a hushed voice as he crouched down.

He went to his waist, but their mark was here; it was better to stop them in the middle of the way rather than letting them getting away. ”You’re up.” He said as he pulled up Samurott, the pokemon stopped in front of their mark revealing it to have been a pokemon in the way.

Oranguru stood in their way, but the pokemon seemed almost prepared as it tried to use a psychic reactively, but it was blocked by the dark typing before it leapt back. The psychic type looked at the two of them before it ran, throwing a pokeball over its shoulder, giving instructions via Telepathy

”You’re a good kid, don’t wanna have to kill ya on the battlefield.” Kouji said as he looked at the younger boy, staring across the pokemon battlefield. ”But it’s your choice, if you’re out here, then come and beat me; I’ll try to beat you.” Kouji said as he drew out his knife, but it wasn’t for a battle but to show the mega stone.

”Why don’t we kick it into high gear?” He asked with a raised eyebrow, he was sure this kid had a special trick or two stored away too. You couldn’t become a gym leader without that.

But meanwhile, Absol jumped into the way of the Psychic, as if to block the devistating blow to Kommo’o, the dragon gave a nod of thanks before the two of them, standing side by side, got ready to clash again.

It would be a close one, that was for sure. One was weak, one was still holding on. Absol waited, ready, to use Sucker Punch the moment the opening showed itself, while Kommo’o got ready to release another Clanging Scales, his defenses would suffer, but that was fine.

That was certainly true, there were better ways, but at the same time? ”You gotta fight when the fight’s there, you’re putting up your arms now, ain’t ya? I’m doing the same, it ain’t the best, but the fight’s in front of us.”

It was really just that simple for him.

But that didn’t mean he didn’t want a better way to do it, but he was a brawler at his core, he felt the amusement wear away. But there was something else to that strike, a superfang shouldn’t have been able to affect a ghost type such as Sableye, but the pokemon still dodged as if sensing the threat.

That was some fighting spirit the Noibat held to make him do such a thing, Kouji raised an eyebrow as Sableye focused on the bat, but Kouji had to be aware of sneaking out before law enforcement arrived in full.

Security was enough to beat back, he took out Samurott, Hisuian, to deal with them, push ‘em back with a trained plan so he could focus on this battle.
[break][break]
”Anyway, what does it matter what I justify? You’re never gonna buy it, and I won’t buy what you say either. That’s what it means to stand on opposing positions.” Yet people defected all the time, Kouji couldn’t reconcile that fact. But Sableye could as it dived forward with a set of Fury Swipes, to strike the Noibat properly.

But right now that was fine, talking about that place was strange to him, raised around it, constantly back there, but he wasn’t truly born in Kanto, it was just that everything around him revolved around that region. It was bittersweet in that sense, but he didn’t let himself get lost in memories such as those.

As much fun as it was, cutting through enemies was a matter of keeping their cool, keeping things concealed until the moment came to reveal everything. Kouji knew that in the end, and he held some pride in being able to do so, as the blades landed, he felt another set of knives slide into his hands comfortably.

”That’s a strange way of saying thank you.” Kouji said with a lopsided smirk, as if returning her words from back then, he knew that it wasn’t necessary, but then again.

He felt the blood pump through his veins as the pokemon got cracking, Druddigon was a machine, hitting the same iron head once more at Orthworm, but that wasn’t the most optimal move in the end. ”Scrafty.” He called his other pokemon, who knew the objective, its signature move Beat Up was what it was planning on using.

Backing up Druddigon, and in time to stop Orthworm from using Earthquake, it began to strike from all angle, shadowy copies of Kouji’s pokemon joined it, landing a devastating strike before disappearing.

”It’s light work, but maybe these brats know something good?” He said as he twirled the knives in his hands while approaching them. He disliked torturing people, but he did a lot of things he disliked for the sake of rocket.

That callous thought wiped away the smirk on his face.

It was a small show of emotion before he wiped it clear. ”Remember? This ain’t nothing.” He said as he tried to get Salamence to turn once more, ready but the coalescing light told him that it would be dangerous to leave themselves unprotected.

”Protect.” An even cool tone as the shining barrier took on the blazing attack, malice wouldn’t be burned away so easily this time around as it shimmered around him, but Salamence continued to charge, as if using a shield as a weapon itself. It pushed air and moonlight aside both as he moved towards Higa, but Kouji could feel the fairy type moves attempt to burn away at him, and his dragon. It wasn't quite heat, but something else. He gritted his teeth, and closed his eyes before he looked down coolly, words that were supposed to realign himself.

Kouji loved battling, but even letting joy peak out wouldn’t be something to look at with favour right now, every time a spark pushed up, he snuffed it out once more. Things were different to Kanto, he was a full fledged member, he wasn’t chasing the coattails of his family any longer, and he wasn’t in that home.

He was right here, in the skies, battling an old comrade.

There was neither joy nor sadness to be found in that.

And if you don’t know the answer, assume they’re still raring to go, and you can’t take anymore.” He said as he rolled his shoulders.

”Expect the best from your opponent, and the worst from yourself, while still being confident.” He said as Dracovish waddled its way back to his side, Kouji began to move forward. ”Serizawa can use hyper beam huh? Didn’t expect a small guy like that to pack such a big punch.”

Kouji hadn’t expected his strike to land as well, it was as if multiple things had gone wro-, right, at the same time; to the point even he was surprised at the sight, staring at the knife he pulled back for a second too long. It dripped with blood, he could see the cut from it all too well, but it was a terrible strike.

”Tch. Idiot, lemme put you out of your misery.” The amusement was gone from his voice, the fun of the battle had faded as he raised his knife upwards only for the mists to thicken, and then finally part; he found himself staring eye to eye with tremendous pressure, Kouji looked at the Suicune for a moment before he leapt backwards as far as his legs could take him.

But the Extrasensory had turned that into a flight that was only stopped by Absol breaking off his stare off against Vortigern. ”Tch.
