He knew they weren’t the good guys. Rocket couldn’t be the good guys, but at the same time, was the league better?

”What’s right huh? What do you think is right in the first place?” He wondered, maybe this conversation would answer some things for him. It wasn’t a matter of good and evil.

It was the same as Samurott, being struck hard by the Bug Buzz, the incessant sound was enough to make Kouji cover his ears for a moment as it struck against his Dark Type, blasting him backwards a few feet before he came to a skidding stop. ”Route CS” He said to his pokemon who dashed back forward.

Ceaseless Edge, the horn on its head began to glow brightly as he went to slash onto the bug before scattering those same energies as shards, it was a move he’d grown fond of, bringing to mind a different region, and a different face.

”Maaah…I guess you’re right about that one, jumping ya and preaching to ya are weird, but then again…I don’t really dislike ya I guess. You’ve got guts, way too much of it.”

That’s really what it came down to, he was feeling out the league’s strength, and this child seemed far too calm. ”But then again, you’ve lost a fair amount anyway. You can’t see, can you?”

Medicham was a pokemon worth respecting, holding it on, but Kouji didn’t draw for the mega evolution, if the kid wasn’t going to do it, he didn’t want to do it either. ”Absol, push yourself another step, we can’t really fall behind can we.” He said to the pokemon who used a night slash to match the struggle bug…

But he was dropped instead, it was a natural weakness, that hit again and again. It was a one on one, Kommo’o had cut its own health twice over already this battle, taken multiple hits, so it was going to be decided rather quickly, rather soon.

”Let’s end on a high, strongest move against strongest move.” He said to the younger boy, it was time to wrap this one up. Kommo’o geared up in that moment to use it, there really was only one choice even with the Struggle Bug that struck it.

”Close Combat.” It would be ill advised, but with its boosted strength, with the fact that it had held on, it could only end with its fists. That was it, Kouji would depend on that in this moment as he drew back Absol.

And Kommo’o roared as he darted forward.

Didn’t deserve to exist.

It was a simple set of words, but he hated what they represented, it was like a weed settling its roots into his soul, once more. He hated it, he had lived so long thinking that was true, but if that were the case…Why was he ever here?

He had never been anything but Rocket.

So, when the flames parted to see a rocketing fist towards his face, strike flatly against his face and threaten to knock him from his dragon, Kouji felt the blood run down the side of his mouth. That red fluid that was supposed to signify bonds that didn’t exist, not with a singular person in this world.

But did that even matter?

He pushed back as she tried to wrestle him from the back of Salamence. ”As if I’ll just roll over and let it end. If I had to go through all of this crap, I’ll make sure everyone else does.” It was spat with venom that dripped through with every word until it was a flood.

”If we don’t deserve to exist, then they deserve to have the worst life.” It was something that shouldn’t have come out, but as he wrestled back against Tsubaki, he gritted his teeth and then threw his head forward in a headbutt.

It didn’t make sense, he didn’t really understand it, but he moved; it was time to switch over the battle now, wasn’t it?

”You’re delusional, there’s no way anything is the weaker version, you can’t go lower than zero.” He said with a smirk as he looked upon the gathering beam, he had to be able to match it, or surpass it…

The illuminating light only made his Golden eyes glow against the growing darkness caused by the mist and battles that were raging across the entire island. It was the same way for Mandibuzz who charged dark energies around her as she charged forward, Punishment was the move she sought, to catch it just as the attack struck, maybe explode together.

”Die for me Mandibuzz.” He said with even thoughts, waiting for the pokemon to charge to her death, it wasn’t bright, but it was the way to change it over. Mandibuzz wasn’t ready for a battle of this level.

”You’re not half bad, but you’ve gotta get faster with ripping things out, or everything you love’ll get plucked instead, catch my drift?” He said as his pokemon was struck, an explosion as it tried to use its punishment but it fell flat for a moment.

”You and the rest of this world.”

”You’re telling me.”

But Kouji wanted to move beyond just brute force, maybe there was some other solution, and guys who’ve survived a while did end up having them. So he did just as he was told, Geomancy was a move he hadn’t heard of before.

How ridiculous, the brightness of that light was different to any other, he disliked bright places to begin with. But this was taking it to a whole new place.

”Damn, we’re almost done. Let’s do this in the end. Pangoro, Comet Punch.” Kouji said as he brought out his pokemon, ready to set the battle down for the final moment.

”After this, we’ll get a break.” The light was doing something, that was for sure, it felt better, or maybe it felt…More alive?

He wasn’t sure how to put it.

”Those are our precious supplies, dunker head.” Kouji said as the box went flying, crushing a group of guys before he sighed. ”Mah, I like the brute force approach just as much as any guy, but I sure do like not…STARVING.” He said as he patted Duraludon on the back before the dragon roared.

Thunderbolt was the move it responded with, heavy as it was, and carrying supplies as it were, the dragon struck with a move it could use from any old range. Striking at the league group, a set of trainers who were a bit too slow to draw for their pokemon.

Annoying.

Still, those pokeball dropped, and a number of pokemon appeared.

Kouji knew full well that if they needed to get away from here, then it’d need to be fast. Leaving someone behind wasn’t what he wanted to do, but he got onto the back of his Iron Jugulis with the time that Barnaby had bought for him.

The pokemon did as it was told, heat vents carried scorching air forward over his enemies, to create some room for Barnaby. ”Can’t be leaving ya behind, Sir. Let’s take it to the sky.” He wasn’t the important one here, Barnaby was. It was important to keep that in mind for himself.

So he struck again, using the leverage that being in the air gave him. Striking at their weaknesses, Dark Pulse was next, aimed at Aggron. ”Reckon ya can keep up in the air? I’ve got a pretty fast ride.”

Kouji struggled to his feet as he got the moment of reprieve, he felt the pain in his sides. ”Tch. Umbreon’s gonna be working overtime.” He said as he looked over himself, it was a dangerous place to be. The knife of his now dripped with blood, and he looked over at Kaz.

”We’re here to win, ain’t no such thing as a fair fight in a war. Thanks for reminding me of that.” He said as he adjusted his footing, but the only result of this battle would be that of two men who wouldn’t be able to move.

”But I’ve got a place to be. You’ve got a place to be. Let’s end this.” He said as he prepared himself, lowering his stance for a final blow.

”Rock Bottom?”

Kouji narrowed his eyes as he rode on the back of his Salamence as it rode forward, not willing to give the other duo any space whatsoever, keeping tight and close. He said as the dragon breathed out a stream of flames to clash against the gathering light. ”Why’d you leave then? Gonna pretend you ain’t hit rock buttom? Y’know there’s no such thing as redemption for people like us.”

It didn’t matter they were children. Kouji didn’t believe in that concept, your sins always remained with you. ”It will sit with you forever. So, sink further, into the fucking seas.”

It was even, it annoyed him just how detached he was able to become. It was strange, but it was like watching another person acting as him. The dragon charged forward even further with the flames coming out of his maws, even as the light was becoming stronger, tearing away at him.

It was strange, the light was no comfort for a man like him now. It just burned away, tearing at one’s skin, to sneak its way into his musculature and then finally pierce his heart. It was deadly, and so he charged into it.

The only redemption lies in death, his or that of another.

”I just learned a thing or two from running it with my old man, gotta keep to your roots, or something like that.” Kouji said as he ran a hand through his hair and leaned against one of the taller shelves, with everything sorted he wondered what else there was. Maybe he was feeling nostalgic, or maybe he didn’t want to return to the boring quietness of the earlier empty store.

”Feel free to come back anytime, just make sure to wear your background on your chest. You can only have one home y’know? There’s a lot of houses, places you live, but only one home.” He said as he stretched out and carried the stuff towards the counter, it was better to sort it out there.

”Is that everything you want?”

He said as he packaged them up while concentrating, placing them into bags. ”The shrine’ll be heavy, want us to deliver it to your place?” He could do it himself really.

”This whole thing’s a losing battle Navy, but…” Kouji knew that fully, he understood just how little this little conflict weighed into the greater one. The fruitfulness of the entire league vs rocket battle, but yet at the same time.

Kommo’o charged to meet the thunder fang that tried to crash against him, Close Combat he attacked back as the fangs sank into his scales, the bulletproof scales themselves wouldn’t hold tight against a dark dragons fangs. ”It’s not like that’s gonna stop us is it?”

It was his usual cocky smirk, he had to fight so he did.
[break][break]
”Glad to see you ain’t croaked from that, don’t expect the same result next time.” He said as he turned towards Isaac, though he kept glancing towards Suicune. The legendary had some serious pressure, it felt difficult to keep his cool against that but his pokemon were holding up, so he needed to be able to do the same.

It was why Absol returned the nod as Umbreon tried to keep her wits. It was like a pin drop, the moment Kouji stepped forward, before he went into a dash to meet the ice sword. It was the exact same moment in which Absol matched his trainer's steps, each moment came faster than the next but he was rebuffed by a wave of water that crashed into Umbreon just as well.

But it split, he didn’t have time to give an appreciative nod, but Kouji stepped in, front foot slid forward before he jabbed forward with his knife a number of times as if trying to create some form of opening.

As for his Pokemon, it was different, as Umbreon had to contend with Mugen’s Flame Charge, it crashed into her but she Snarled in return. Shot backwards, struck by water and fire both.

Absol had a different time, as he sought a ribbon of water that wouldn’t increase the distance any further, he struck forward with a Psycho Cut to charge behind, rushing in speed with it but the water still tore at him.

”Tch. Never figured you to be this strong, guess I underestimated ya.” Kouji said with a smirk as the battle continued on around them.

”If you wanted to come back, I’d protect you, y’know. I’m a lot stronger now.” Kouji said as he looked over his shoulder. ”You didn’t have a choice back then, but now you do.”

He said as he looked up in the air, he wondered if choice even mattered. ”I get it, trust me. I was raised to be in Rocket y’know? Trained my whole life, I killed people before I even knew how to tie my shoe laces.”

”But my final choice was up to me. You have that choice too, so, what do you want to do with your life?”

Kouji and Absol, the dynamic duo out in the wilds once more, enjoying the feel of his suit, a mere grunt trying to level up to a boss, but right now it was just a matter of catching pokemon. He was only interested in that, maybe it was Dirk Evans influencing him.

But perhaps it was none of that, still, he gripped the pokeball as he patted the top of Absol’s head. He looked over his shoulder at the surroundings, better to get it going as fast as possible. ”Kinda looks like a Mafia boss, don’t it? What’s the ol’ movie called?” He never really watched media, but it was something iconic.

”Hahaha. Absol, get going, we’ll grab ourselves a good one.”
