"While it’s true my restaurant stays pretty busy, I usually stay in the kitchen unless we’re understaffed, then I’ll help wait tables as well. So, all the people I’ve come to know over the year are people I’ve met outside of a restaurant setting," he explained, briefly thinking over all the people he had met.

As the older male explained what had made him so grateful to get noticed by a Shaymin, a small smile graced his lips. "All things to be grateful for," he agreed before continuing. "Speaking of gyms, who gave you your first gym badge?" he asked curiously. Having obtained six badges back in Unova, he couldn’t help but be curious about the gyms here.

As the conversation changed, Yuuki showed up. At the praise from his boyfriend, his face heated up with embarrassment and he awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck. "Yes, that’s right. Being an ice type, Yuuki came in handy when battling against that Sandslash. I think she liked her time in the spotlight," he said with a chuckle.

Realizing they should get started, he said as much and simply started walking when the older male told him to take the lead. Which, considering this was the first time the older male had been to his house, was a given.

"I’m thinking we start with the guest room. Well, I say guest room, but it’s being used mostly for storage. I think a lot of those boxes carry my braille books. At least I’m hoping they’re there. My aunt labeled the boxes, but…" he trailed off.

His aunt had used a marker and had forgotten to have them also labeled in braille, so aside from rifling through every box, he wouldn’t know what the boxes held.[break] Keenan Toral

Seemed like he would need to start saving up. Being a business owner, he was fairly well off, but it was still good to manage his money and make sure he had enough to spend on extravagant items he didn't necessarily need.

The whole bond thing wouldn't be much of a problem. He was pretty close to all of his Pokémon. But the question was, who was he closest to? If you asked him, he would probably say it was a toss-up between Venus and Hades. The Serperior had, after all, been through so much with him and was usually the one who would remind him to eat when he got caught up doing something, practically shoving the food at him. If Hades was the father type among his Pokémon, then Venus was the mother type.

"I love all of my Pokémon equally, but if it's a close bond, I would have to say either Venus, my Serperior, or Hades. They've been with me the longest, with Venus being the one I started my journey with. Yuuki, my Alolan Vulpix, I got around a year ago. She's needy though. All my others I received more recently," he explained.

At the mention of his Zweilous, he smiled. "Yeah, we're close. I caught him before a really dark time in my life. Him and Venus helped me through it. While I pushed people away, they were always there."

While he was more than happy to continue talking about his Pokémon companions, he couldn't help but be a bit curious about her own bond with her Pokémon. "How about you? How did you get so close with Sandy?" he asked her, his head turned towards her.

As she mentioned that what they did was up to him, he frowned, his expression thoughtful. That was a bit tough. But he supposed there was one thing they could do.

"I would like to work on Hades' Dragon Pulse. He seems to lack control with that move," he admitted, resting his hand on the Zweilous' side.[break] Shalin Nariya

Kee always seemed so upbeat. Sure, he tried to be positive, but at times it could be hard. He was sure Kee knew him well enough to know he still thought about his sister and how sometimes it still hurt. So, part of him envied the older male for always having such an upbeat attitude.

Listening to what he had to say, he was reminded that Palintine's Day was just around the corner. They supposedly said it was another one run by an event that gave out prizes when you gave out a certain amount of Palintines.

“Oh yeah, another one is just around the corner, isn't it? My aunt is going to help me send out Valentines. I didn't take part last year since I didn't really know anyone,” he explained.

“It's great you were able to catch one though. I hear Shaymin are drawn to gratitude, so you must have been thankful for something to draw one's attention.”

While he didn't mind the Shaymin being on his head, he did know someone who would. And as if thinking of her had summoned her, Yuuki came from the other room and bounded over to them, brushing up against Shin's leg.

“And I bet you remember this one,” he said as he picked up the Alolan Vulpix. “She's still as possessive as always.”

Seriously, he hoped that evolving her would tone that down a bit. It all would just depend on when Yuuki was ready to evolve. Speaking of ready…

“I suppose we should get to cleaning. For when we need a break, I made some hot meat sandwiches. They're under a heating lamp to keep them warm,” he told his boyfriend as he put Yuuki back down.[break] Keenan Toral

At first, he wasn't sure what she was talking about. What did she mean by sync? It wasn't until she mentioned a Sygna suit that he realized what she was talking about.

Sygna suits weren't actually something he had given much thought to, but he had heard of them. One had to be pretty new to the region or living off in the middle of nowhere not to have.

"This is the first time I've run into someone using one," he admitted.

"I've heard they're capable of amazing feats, but being someone who spends most of their time as a chef, I actually haven't given too much thought to them," he confessed.

The conversation as they rode petered out as they reached their destination. Hopefully, a clearing big enough for them to train in.

Getting off Tempest, he called out to Hades, and soon enough, the Zweilous had joined them, landing beside Shin. Feeling the Zweilous come up beside him, he smiled and petted the dragon.

Hades, for his part, watched Shalin and Sandy.

As Shalin confirmed they were in a clearing, he nodded. "That's good. I don't feel like destroying any nature," he said with relief.

Now that he didn't have to worry about them destroying nature, he could relax and focus on what they needed to do. Though he wasn't exactly sure what the training would entail. Were they meant to battle?

"How are we going to go about this?" he asked at last, moving a bit away from Tempest, with Hades following close enough that it was a wonder Shin didn't trip.

Despite the fact that he and Kee had been dating for a while now, he still got nervous when they were supposed to meet. It seemed to him that he fared better when the older male dropped by. It was like he had more time to get nervous if their meeting up was pre-planned, which was probably the case.

This was probably why he could still get a bit flustered around Kee.

But he was determined not to let that happen today. He would act completely normal. He had done it when they had seen the play. It couldn't be that hard.

That was what he told himself as he opened the door. As always, the older male would greet him in such a way that would usually leave him all flustered.

He could feel his face start to heat up in embarrassment but refrained from making a complete fool of himself. Only just.

"I'm doing well, and how about you?" he inquired, stepping aside to let the older male in.

As he mentioned his Pokémon, he listened to what he had to say, his eyes widening as he mentioned having a Shaymin.

"Wow, you have a Shaymin! That's so cool!" he exclaimed, becoming a bit loud in his excitement.

Realizing how loud he had gotten, his face heated up in embarrassment. Whoops, that had been a bit loud, hadn't it?

"So, how did you come to acquire a Shaymin?" he asked, working hard to keep his voice at a more normal volume. The last thing he wanted was for the neighbors to complain about how loud he was being.[break] Keenan Toral

He was confused about what was about to happen. Since there was no way for him to blow out someone's eardrums, he had to assume she was talking to her Flygon. Perhaps she was trying to show him what she meant by her earlier comment. He had to admit it made him curious.

As Sandy started up, he listened to the sound of the humming. The humming was in a low pitch, making it easy to differentiate between the sounds. The sound coming from one direction didn't sound as loud, meaning one wing was beating louder than the other. It was definitely a surprise to find she hadn't been trying to pull the wool over his eyes.

"I've never known anyone to ride the wing before, isn't it dangerous?" he inquired curiously before speaking once more. "Seems like it would give you whiplash."

Once he was sure she was ready, he would urge Tempest to start walking. Trusting Tempest not to run into anything, he barely wasted time on guiding her, only giving her verbal commands every now and then if he felt her veering off course.

Soon enough, they would find themselves at their destination. Even then, he would get off Tempest until the person they had to help greeted them.[break] Shalin Nariya

Usually on his day off, he would do inventory at the restaurant since it wasn't really taxing. However, since he had plans, he had asked one of the workers to tend to it and make a list of anything they needed and tell him tomorrow. That way, he could actually focus on his plans for the day.

Plans that involved him spending time with Kee. Sure, they would be cleaning and unpacking boxes. But still...

He shook his head to clear his thoughts and made sure everything was ready. Hot meat sandwiches on the table under a heating lamp, check. Refrigerator stocked with drinks, check. It seemed he had everything prepared for when Kee came over. Even if that just involved doing housework, he still wanted to be a good host.

The young man nervously smoothed out his clothes. Though he knew Kee wouldn't really care what he looked like. In fact, Shin didn't usually either.

Not much point when you were blind.

A knock on his door made him start. Was it that time already? Nervously, he ran his hand over his wrist only to realize he wasn't wearing his watch. He must have forgotten it in his haste to get ready.

Nothing to do about it now. Hopefully, the one at the door was Kee and not his aunt or one of his cousins.

Taking a deep breath, he made his way to the door to open it.

Hopefully, this would all go off without a hitch. He had really enjoyed the time he had spent with Kee.

"Then perhaps I'll ask him the next time we run into each other, assuming it's not a work day," he said, pausing momentarily before continuing. "Don't get me wrong, I love a good battle, but trying to do one after I've worked is asking too much. I'm worn out by work as it is, so any battle would have to be on a day off."

As he spoke about his brother's exploits in the gym circuit, he couldn't help but be curious. "Sounds interesting, especially considering how tough I've heard Josh Devlin can be. I must admit I don't know as much about noah faber, though, aside from the fact that he's the gym leader of Verdanturf," he sounded impressed, though somewhat sheepish when he admitted the last part.

To his relief, he didn't seem to think his comment on wardrobe choice was weird. Though at the mention of being distracted by the outfit choice, he couldn't help but wince. "Yeah, a few times in the past, the outfit choices were quite..." he trailed off, clearly trying to think of a way to put it nicely. "Flashy," he said at last.

As the talk of wardrobe came to a close, he realized the people around them were starting to get up. "I guess we're finished," he said before turning towards the other teen. "It's been fun hanging out with you. Ummm well... I would like to do so again if you're up for it," he said, shifting uncomfortably and ignoring his buzzing phone in his pocket, probably his aunt calling wanting to know when he will be home.[break] Keenan Toral

As he spoke of a charter, he nodded. "Fair enough, not that it would matter to me," he pointed out with a grin. "Though then again, I could use all of us just sitting in a room and not talking. Now that I think about it, we all probably have trouble figuring out what we should talk about."

To be honest, despite being a bit on the socially awkward side, he had no problem conversing with others. It probably had something to do with running a restaurant. Being the owner of a restaurant, he had to have a certain level of social skills. Social skills that sometimes made him seem somewhat formal at times. Not that there weren't times he still messed up when it came to conversing in his restaurant.

"I suppose so," he agreed when Biscotti pointed out it was a good way to make people laugh. Though he would rather not be the reason people laughed. That usually only made him feel even more embarrassed and left him even more flustered.

Yes, he supposed that was true. But outside of his cooking getting complimented, getting complimented just caused him to become flustered. Sure, he still turned red as a tomato when someone complimented his cooking, but at least he had no trouble stringing a sentence together or making his words articulate.

He wasn't sure who he was talking about but still nodded. "I suppose someone has at least done something like that. I think I was only so embarrassed because I had a strained relationship with my mother. Both of my parents actually. Not because they were necessarily bad parents, but because they expected a lot from me and then decided to become overbearingly protective when I was fourteen."

He understood it, he did. His sister had cancer and was nearing her end. It had changed something about his parents. He couldn't go two steps without running into his parents. One of them asking if he was feeling okay or wanting to get him checked out at a hospital to make sure nothing was inherently wrong with him.

If it were him, he wasn't sure he would be able to be as laid back about it. But then again, there was that one kid who seemed to struggle with his own health issues he had been born with. He had seemed to be just as resigned to the way things were as Biscotti seemed to be. In a way, it showed just how strong of a character such people had.

"That's good, though I'm not sure if I would be able to be as accepting as you. Was there ever a time you just felt bitter about it all?" he asked curiously. Surely there had been such a time. Even if it had only been when he was a kid. When he hadn't been able to be like a normal kid.

Deciding to move on, he decided to enlighten him on how his own condition had come to be. "Yeah, it hurt alright. I think I would've taken it better to being suddenly blind if it wasn't for the headache in the few weeks that followed," he said with a sigh. He had never been sure why, but he had always hated headaches, even before he had lost his vision.

His mentioning of them being able to one day correct his vision made him frown. "Hmmm maybe, it's my brain that's the problem, not my eyes after all," he told him. It was clear he wasn't too keen on the idea. "I'm used to it at this point, not to mention that I didn't learn to cook until after I became blind. Getting my sight back would mean having to learn a new way of doing things."

Shaking himself, he returned his focus to the task at hand. "Yeah, Venus is really good about that," he said with a note of pride in his tone. He would allow Biscotti to take his hand so the older male could take him over to Venus so they could finish corralling the farmers' Pokémon.[break] Biscotti Kingsley

Hearing her compliment, his face heated up in embarrassment. "Thanks, attention to detail is kind of my thing," he said before realizing what he had just said, causing his face to heat up even more. Seriously, had he just said that? His aunt had been right about his flustered state when it came to getting complimented. Though she forgot to tell him the part about it making him stupid.

"What I mean is, with my career, attention to detail is a must. If I don't pay attention to my surroundings, I could end up getting hurt," he managed to explain after the blush had died down. Hopefully, she wouldn't think too hard about his earlier response. Man, that had been embarrassing.

As she explained where Sandy was, he was about to thank her, but before he could, she resumed speaking. Her next comment confused him. What did she mean by that? Was the wing literally under her, or was she pulling his leg? Because he couldn't imagine something like that. Seriously, wouldn't that be dangerous? It seemed like there would be the risk of whiplash or worse. Of course, he had no idea that she had a sygna suit.

Deciding to swallow his questions, figuring it would just confuse him more, he decided to just focus on introducing his Pokémon. As Josh came up, he couldn't help but perk up. "Oh yeah, I know him. He gave me riding lessons. Though I didn't have Tempest at the time, my aunt found someone willing to give one up after I had met him. We met up again for a battle, though it wasn't a gym battle," he explained.

As she mentioned training a Bagon, he nodded. So it didn't seem like she knew much more than he did. Well, that was fine. They could learn together. It would just be a learning experience for both of them.

He contemplated what he said. There had to be more to it than that. Most parents weren't like that. Most seemed to believe their child could do anything they put their mind to. That they could do no wrong. From what he had observed when being around other people's parents, that's the way most of them were.

So why were Kee's and Aaron's so different? While he was a bit curious, he knew it wasn't his place to ask. Oh well, time to think of another subject. Since he wanted to try and get him away from a topic that might bring him down, he picked the subject that first came to mind.

"Your brother seems like a capable battler from what I've heard. Perhaps I could battle him one day. Hopefully it'll go better than when I asked that one guy..." he said the last part musingly. Yeah, he had tried to ask Ever for a battle but had been rejected by the older male. First time he'd ever been called daft.

Deciding just to focus for a bit on the play, he listened to the play go on. Though the fact they had forgotten one of the legendaries of Unova and how his sister might react was amusing. As amused as he was, he couldn't help but release a chuckle. From the sound beside him, he figured he had startled the other ten, which hadn't been his intention, so he shot him an apologetic look.

"True, but my sister would've still had something to say about it. She was really into plays, and folklore, and all that kind of stuff. Is it weird that plays have grown on me more since I lost my sight? While I've never been fashionable by any means, the outfits were part of the reason I wasn't entirely sold on plays to begin with," he admitted, making sure to keep his voice low so that only Kee would hear him.[break] Keenan Toral
