He hadn’t been waiting for long when he was told the gym leader was ready to see him. Hand-ghosting over the signs, the blind youth followed them as well as any verbal directions he was given in Main Sector. Josh’s voice would be the first to greet him upon his arrival at his destination, and he would shoot the older male a grin.

“I’ve been good; been getting out more; well, trying anyway,” he admitted, awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck.

He was trying, at least. However, deep down, he would always be a workaholic. But wasn’t the fact that he was actually trying all that mattered?

"How have you been?” he asked, deciding to return the question.
[break][break]
Soon enough, the time for small talk was behind them, as if Josh were fully ready to face him. As he went on to explain how the match would work, he nodded. “Sounds good to me.”

Once the signal to start was given, he would send out his Pokémon, a Marowak and a Metagross, his rotom phone helping him know what Pokémon the older male had sent out. After all, knowing who was sent out would help you know how to play the battle out.

“We’ll see about that,” he said in response to the taunt. “Start things off, Marrow.”

The Marowak, apparently named Marrow, would kick things off with the move Sandstorm, providing the Isis, the Metagross, and the cover to come at Saber with a Zen Headbutt.

Sandstorm: Will last five turns or until the battle draws to an end whichever comes first. The sandstorm can also be ended if another weather condition is put into place.

He was finally going to do it. After saying over and over again that he would be finally doing it, all it took was setting everything up on one of his days off from work.

And what was he doing, you may ask? Taking on the gym challenge.

He had already started the gym challenge in Unova, but as that was no longer an option, he wanted to take the one in Hoenn. Something he had said he would do for months. However, with his workaholic tendencies, he continued to find reasons as to why he couldn’t take on the gyms until he realized that the only thing holding him back was himself.

Once he realized that he had stopped making excuses, he signed up to take on his first gym in Hoenn. That was actually why he was currently making his way through Mauville instead of being in Lilycove.

Reaching the gym with the help of Tempest, he returned the Manectric back to her pokeball before making his way inside, where he was told to wait until things were ready for his gym challenge. [break] Josh Devlin

As he continued his stroll through the Rustboro tunnel, his thoughts strayed to his boyfriend. He was sure he would be happy that he was trying to take more time for himself. He was trying to take more breaks and not be the workaholic he was known to be.

The sound of his Rotom phone alerting him to the presence of another Pokémon pulled him out of his thoughts.

Oh, Marowak, how cool!

He had to admit that having a Marowak in his possession would be cool.

Inching his way closer, he tried to come off as non-threatening as he made his way closer.

However, Marowak wasn’t too keen on them being in her territory and aimed to use Double Kick against Tempest, which the electric type was able to shrug off before readying an attack herself.

She would use Fire Fang against the Marowak, causing her to get a burn, before using Quick Attack before the Marowak could retaliate, pushing the Marowak back a bit.

Knowing Tempest would be in trouble if the Marowak used a ground-based attack, he took out an empty pokeball and threw it at the Marowak.

Moving on, Tempest continued to walk through Rustboro Tunnel. This time, however, he kept his Rotom phone in the hand that wasn’t currently resting on Tempest. Because of this, it was his phone that was the first to alert him to the presence of another Pokémon.

This time, a Honedge.

While it was true that he wasn’t really picky about Pokémon, he also needed to think about how useful a Pokémon would be for him. And while Honedge wasn’t a bad Pokémon, unfortunately, it wouldn’t be of any use to him.

This time, he didn’t need to urge Tempest to move along. If a Pokémon wasn’t bothering them, he saw no point in attacking it for no reason. Not when they could simply go on their way.

Feeling Tempest stiffen under his hand, he frowned. “What is it, girl?” he asked, rubbing his hand along her side. It would be around that time that he would hear a strange sound. It sounded like the sound was coming from in front of him.

Furrowing his brows in confusion, he moved closer to Tempest, pressing up against him as if prepared to protect him from something. This, of course, only made his frown deepen.

Once he had moved closer, he began to recognize the sound.

Was that digging?

Thinking it might be a Pokémon, he took out his Rotom phone and let it scan the area in front of him. Once the reading was complete, he discovered what was in front of him was an Excadrill.

Knowing Excadrill wouldn’t do much for him, he guided Manectric away from the Excadrill, which was harder than it should be since he had to push up against her to get her to move. It was clear she wanted to chase the Excadrill off.

Rustboro Tunnel was somewhere he had never been, but since it was his day off, he decided a bit of exploring was in order. If one could call it that, it wasn’t like he could see his surroundings after all. Not because the tunnel system was dark, but because he was blind.

Still, he wouldn’t let that keep him from seeing what the Rustboro Tunnel was all about. If it held up to the hype some people had for it,.

As he made his way through the tunnel, one hand rested on the side of Tempest, the Manectric guiding him through the tunnel. However, Manectric wouldn’t only be acting as a guide but as an early alert system in case some Pokémon came out to meet him.

“It just so happens he is about to go on his break, so I’ll send him right out,” the waiter would tell Dachi upon being flagged down. After ensuring that was all she wanted of him, the waiter would go do as she asked him.

Shin had just entered the break room when Travis told him that he was needed. Apparently, a customer had specifically requested to meet him. The same customer had requested Unovan cuisine. Intrigued, he thanked the waiter and was about to head out when he thought of something.

“Hey Travis How full is the restaurant?”

“Not too full, sir,” the waiter stated before continuing. “So navigating shouldn’t prove to be too much of a problem.”

“Thank you,” he simply said before walking out, forgoing his cane as he made his way to the dining area. After being directed to the right table, he approached the woman with a warm smile.

“Hello, I was told you requested to see the chef who cooked your dish; that would be me. Was everything to your liking?” He asked, his tone soft but still high enough that she would have no trouble hearing him over the patrons that remained.[break] Daichi Toyokuni

It was near the end of the rush, which meant at the moment there were more people leaving than there were placing orders. Soon he would be content to take his break and allow one of his fellow chefs to take over his station. At the moment, though, he was happier to do some cooking, even if he hadn’t taken a break since opening the restaurant for the day.

Still, with it becoming more lax with the rush ending, he was dealing more with cutting up ingredients than the actual cooking. Despite his lack of sight, cutting ingredients didn’t pose much of a problem, so he often chose to do it when things weren’t so busy, as long as his immediate attention wasn’t needed.

He was just about ready to start mincing some onions when he was told of an order for some Unovan cuisine. How curious? Especially considering he was told to surprise the customer. However, the most surprising thing was that the customer was apparently from Castelia, his own hometown.

How curious indeed!

Was this someone he knew? Or was it simply a coincidence to be serving someone from his old hometown?

Without saying anything, he left one of the other chefs working under him to mince the onions as he got to work on the order. As a former Unovan, it made the most sense for him to prepare the woman’s order. Though not before ensuring the waiter went to get her drink order, which would consist of soft drinks, water, homemade sweet tea, or homemade lemonade.

The dish he chose was a traditional one from his homeland. One that had required him to pay shipping fees since it required some of the ingredients to be imported. But in the end, it was always worth it. It's worth it to feed someone a true Unovan dish.

Couldn’t say he didn’t understand. Wasn’t that part of the reason he had barely taken off. He liked to keep himself busy. Not for any other reason than the fact he likes the work he does though. Even now it was hard to not fall back on being a workaholic. Having people like his boyfriend and his family helped him in that regard though.

“If I take on the gym circuit you’ll be the first to know,” he promised.

Though the question was when would that happen. He still wasn’t comfortable leaving the restaurant for too long. And usually days off were spent buying groceries to restock the restaurant, doing inventory, or doing something with his boyfriend. Though he supposed one of his employees could take care of the first two things.

“I didn’t really find your brother hard to deal with, then again one of my main interests is cooking,” he mused, thinking over the last time he had interacted with Ace. It had only been the one time but he hadn’t minded the younger male's company.

Speaking of it, it hadn’t taken a genius to figure out Ace was trying to set him up with his brother. He actually hadn’t noticed originally what was happening, too preoccupied with other stuff. It was only after he had thought back on the interaction that he realized it.

It was kind of amusing if one thought about it. “Ah yes, it did seem like your brother was trying to play Cupid at the time. Definitely something my sister would’ve done, though I admit she would’ve been much less subtle, probably making it seem I could walk on water or something like that.”

As Kee spoke, he nodded. “I hope so. She has somehow been getting in the attic though. Still not sure how she’s doing it. Anyway, there are some rotten floorboards up there. Someone’s supposed to come and deal with it but until that happens, I’d prefer none of my Pokémon be up there,” he told the older male. He was pretty sure there had been a leak up there that his aunt had managed to fix, though no one had been up there since.

“Oh yeah, sure. I can borrow my aunt's tools. She won’t mind,” he said, unaware that Kee had been wondering about tools himself.

At the mention of the box, he nodded before taking it from his boyfriend. Curious about why there would be an unmarked box, he opened it. What he found was a box full of memories. Stuff that had been taken from his house back in Unova. Both of his houses.

“It’s stuff from back when I lived in Unova. My aunt said she had gone to get stuff from there but forgot where she put it,” he admitted as he picked up an old picture. While he couldn’t see it anymore from the texture of the picture frame, he knew it was of him and his sister. Taken in a time before his sister had gotten so sick.

He put it back before glancing at Kee. “I’ll have to look through it later. No telling what my aunt deemed as important enough to bring back.”
