At least the damn bird was gone.

"Aight, SKARMORY, come back," he ordered. The metallic bird of his own gave a displeased sound, the grating sound of its wings flapping together a sign that it wanted to take chase. Nevertheless, it obeyed its master.

"C'mon, we're not too far. Them eggs caused us enough trouble."

Montgomery clenched his jaw, his eyes trailing back to the patrol car not too far away from him. The keys were settled in his vest, waiting to be pulled back out and put into the ignition.

He could just drive off. He could lie. After all, he was a busy man.

But not right now. And he was trying to disassociate himself from his former Rocket identity. With a heavy sigh and a curse underneath his breath, Montgomery kicked a rock as he approached and snatched the rake.

"Fuckin' fine."

Though he was not quiet about his displeasure.

Walking through the sea without gear, feeling like his ribcage would implode at any given moment, but being able to breathe like a fish, was far from normal.

"This is fucked. Your scientists are fuckin' insane. They shouldn't have done this."

Perhaps, all of their problems would have been avoided without this discovery.

The glassy Pokemon kept its watchful eye on them, although it had none. It was just a head with tentacles, staying still as they made their way through.

"So that's it, huh?" Montgomery felt a shiver trail down his spine. "Why don't they? Fear?"

[attr="class","monty"]It was always fucking Jethro Haig that Montgomery managed to run into these days. It seemed that while he was running away from his past, it was trying to catch up to him in some way — as if it was haunting him.

"This shit's gettin' old," he muttered under his breath, the tires of his patrol car coming to a stop on the gravel path outside the Fallarbor Town cemetery.

Couldn't ARCEUS see that he was doing good now? Hell, Montgomery was even working with Navy as his deputy in Dewford now. That had to get him some brownie points. Regardless, it seemed that his Unovan counterpart had noticed that someone else was present aside from himself. He couldn't just scram now.

"The hell ya doin', cleaning up the cemetery?" Montgomery asked after he departed his car, casting it one last glance over his shoulder as he made his way closer to the older man.

[attr="class","monty"]Montgomery made no move to enter Jethro Haig's home, nor did the man make one to invite him inside. Understandably so: home was a safe place, and well... maybe Montgomery still wasn't safe. He knew he wouldn't trust Jethro if the roles were reversed.

Still, he had quite the heart to offer him a comb, fresh from the package, and a teasing remark instead of a biting one.

"I'll show ya princess," he mumbled, combing the grass and dust from the long strands of hair. Finally, the knots were relieved, and he felt better knowing he didn't look a fool getting the bent hat on his head. Still had to fix that.

"Here. Promise I don't got lice. Thanks again. Call us if ya have anymore trouble with that shrine." And, with that, Montgomery made his move back to his car, heading back towards Dewford.

[attr="class","monty"]Of course it all sounds crazy. But, crazy seemed to be Montgomery's middle name. Or danger. Either way, he was roped into Dewford now, and the sheriff trusted him despite having speculations of his past.

That was enough to give him some trust to not turn around and stab him in the back.

"It does. But I'm with ya, boss. Lead the way. I'll follow ya."

He hoped the last bit of alcohol he drank would give him the nerves of steel he'd needed to face something like that rather than inhibit him, as the two police officers left the bar.

He made his way to Mossdeep, which was technically outside his deputy jurisdiction. However, Montgomery had an obligation to Hoenn as a member of the police force to respond to any suspicious activity. His car drove up with no lights or sirens, to make a surprise appearance.

As dispatch had announced, two females were there, and there were a few GALARIAN YAMASKS around. Perhaps the others had been caught already. Still, investigation had to be done.

"Evenin', ladies. Might I ask ya what yer doing in this area?"

[attr="class","monty"]A file is pulled from thin air — Navy's poncho. Montgomery takes it over, looking across a few pages in quick glances since he didn't have much time to focus and read while he was discussing things with the sheriff. However, a few points did stand out.

The weak points. The glass skin. But it wasn't glass.

"This thing don't make no sense. How can ya have skin like glass but not shatter into pieces?" he muttered to no one in particular.

"So, the gist is you're dead or ya wish you were. Got it. Sounds fucked up. And these things — I guess their toxins, really — are all around Dewford is what yer getting at?" Montgomery looked over at him, lighting one of his cigarettes as he waved down the barkeep for an ashtray.

"What have y'all been doin' so far as protection? Or is there any that ya can do?"

Maybe the old man wasn't bad after all.

Thunder echoed in the distance again. "Hop in my car. I'll drive us to the house."

He opened his door, indicating for him to do the same. It was a slow roll to the house, specks of rain beginning to drip down onto the windshield of his vehicle by the time he pulled up the gravel driveway.

"Thanks. I'll clean it out, promise."

Then again, he may or may not believe that he made such a drastic change. "Unimportant. So, yer comin' or what?"

[attr="class","monty"]Montgomery met Navy's gaze with one of his own, refusing to back down from this sudden stare down. If he knew any better, like in any of the classic wild west movies, they'd have to have a show down outside. Guns pulled. Aimed. Fire.

However, Navy broke first, bursting into a fit of laughter and smiles. He furrowed his brow, regarding him with a look of confusion. No, this guy wasn't crazy.

He was definitely a psychopath.

"I wonder if ya got some screw loose in there somewhere," Montgomery muttered to himself, sipping on his stiff drink. Though he thought about it for a moment before heaving a heavy sigh, as if he was putting a heavy burden on his shoulders. "I suppose I'll help ya out in yer precious Dewford."

"Jellyfish." That word stuck out. He flicked his eyes back toward the sheriff. "Jellyfish?" Montgomery echoed.

Ah. So that's what this was about. NIHILGEO.

"Sounds familiar. But give me the information anyway, so I'm caught up."

[attr="class","monty"]Aside from his injured pride, maybe a scrape or two, and a few aching muscles, Montgomery would say he was fine. He shook his head, swiping off some of the oozing blood from a cut on his cheek.

"I think I'm alright. Took me by surprise..."

There was dirt and grass in his hair, and his hat was bent. He clicked his teeth, taking it off his head and fiddling with the brim.

"Whatcha can do for me is give me a hair brush or somethin'. Maybe let me get this shit outta my hair before I head back to the station and report my findins to them."

Maybe he'd have to take his hat to a shop to get fixed.

Montgomery looked back to Jethro Haig, an awkward silence falling for a moment. "I'm really not bad no more, Jethro. Anything between us, that's in Unova."
