The only thing that he finds kicking through the sticks is a Girafarig that seems disinterested in Adrian, and he in it. After crossing eyes with a cursory glance, they are both quick to see themselves off. Adrian continues his search, as yet undeterred by his abysmal luck.

Only recently has he been introduced to Illumina pokemon, though their aura is somewhat unusual to his discerning eye. He shares Mars' assumptions about what brought this strange virus to Hoenn in the first place, but not the exact origins.[break][break]

"The Xerneas that we brought back with us wasn't originally from here; it must have something to do with it." And to that point he should have considered the grave implications that may have. For now Yveltal remained reclusive, dormant in its vigil, but the scales were ever tipping away in favor of life. Thriving beyond the intended scope, draining the land's precious, finite resources.[break][break]

Adrian doesn't truly notice the pokemon around them while they engage in speculative discussion, lost in thought as it were. "At least, I find that the more likely of the two."[break][break]

Taking the time to acclimate Howitzer to their reality was taking its toll, as he and her were forced to realize they were not the same beings as the ones they had lost. But neither were they strangers to one another.

Probably a lot of paperwork too; best to avoid all that unsavory stuff and just fight outside. Not that he particularly enjoyed the idea of fighting near the ocean.[break][break]

Maybe if he'd brought Furor along instead...[break][break]

But today was Howitzer's debut, in a manner of speaking.[break][break]

"I get ya. Every gym's a little different." Noah Faber accepted indoor challenges, simulating a boxing ring for their challengers to fight within. He'd earned the Survival Badge fighting in the woods, and Melody... Well she'd practically just handed it over to him without much fuss. A little brine was not an entirely unwelcome change of pace.[break][break]

Just as they described, there was enough arena in the low tide to provide a sizable platform, though he knew Hoenn's oceans to be unpredictable even at their best. It was something they would have to watch out for as they were battling, especially considering the Swampert from before. Along with another pokemon, Beau's Pangoro; they would be their adversaries for the evening's match.[break][break]

Nemo and Torben. "Let's get right to it then."[break][break]

Grabbing at the pair of pokeballs at his waist, Adrian pressed the release on the capsules, erupting with light as an Arcanine and Vileplume appeared on the field in their respective positions. Clasping the devices shut and stowing them away on his belt, his unease began to mount as he considered that this truly was his first match with Howitzer since she was brought over from "elsewhere".[break][break]

"These are Howitzer and Rover." Formalities out of the way, their battle could begin in earnest, with Adrian taking the first move: "Alright you two, let's change up the field; Rover, terrain, Howie, weather."[break][break]

The ground beneath them erupted with a verdant expanse that offered better terrain for his pokemon to navigate, while the skies overhead filled with a harsh sunlight.

While they fade from the mountain come dawn, they return ere twilight falls, to find that little missing bit of tranquility they've yet to reignite in the other. Though her doe brown eyes do not show the same wary distrust as before, she is yet accustomed to him.[break][break]

He should not be, and yet he is. Perhaps she notices a similar look in his eyes, everytime he locks eyes with her. Despite the elation in having her back, dark thoughts haunt him as he considers what it will mean, eventually, now that she is returned. A loss inevitable.[break][break]

In the dark he stirs in a restless trap of his own making, imagining that very loss as they struggle to find peace beneath the starsweald at Mt. Pyre's summit. After minutes spent enduring this nightmare, he awakens to find himself coated in a veneer of sweat, resting against the bread of Howitzer's stomach. It offers him reassurance.[break][break]

Moments pass. Stars race past them, finding their own destinies. During it all, a restless leg begins to kick as Howitzer endures a similar episode. Her legs jolt as if running from some imagined evil, before she too eventually stirs from her restless slumber, amber eyes filled with dread until they find Adrian's in a sea of dark.[break][break]

In those placid pools she eventually discovers her calm, brushing her muzzle against him dotingly, lapping at him with her tongue. Neither of them are so blind as to give up the chance they have been given, this miracle he made.

If they didn't have the nads to take a shot at them now, they might as well not be. But it did fuel his speculation as to the point and purpose of these little trials, the anonymity, and beyond that the actual point of purpose of the would-be assailants.[break][break]

"I would like to offer my Vileplume." It was not a decision he'd made lightly. Part of him had wanted to teach the ability to his newly acquired Shaymin, but he did not see a need to bolster its already formidable abilities. And while Rover had proven itself time and time again, it was important to him that he reward a lifetime ally and friend.[break][break]

After releasing it from his oldest pokeball to date, Adrian subjects the Vileplume to the ENAMORUS' strange tutelage, that it might learn something of the blessings of spring.
