"Took you long enough." Adrian couldn't be sure where Martin was coming from; it wasn't good practice to say something so sensitive over the phone. He'd been forced to start using burners lately. It wasn't something he enjoyed, having to fumble between phones and such, but he supposed the alternative was allowing the League to actively track them, uncover their identities... Yeah, no.[break][break]

At Adrian's side is a strange, green Ekans exhibiting preternatural qualities: Beneath the light of the evening sun, as twilight threatened to take hold upon the mountain, its body adopted an unearthly glow. Strange, lambent symbols appeared along its body. Things just kept getting weirder and weirder by the minute in Hoenn. Right now it was these babies coming out of the newest hatchery.[break][break]

[attr="class","adrianwtw"]The colors of tangerine streak against the clouds in rich hues as the morning sun barely rises over the horizon, bathing them in its glow. Eyes wrinkle shut as they adapt to the sunlight, and Adrian awakes to find himself snug against Howitzer, having weathered the night comfortably even atop the mountain. Winds howl as they race over the bluffs, leaving a chill where it drags against his features, but Howitzer's presence keeps him toasty.[break][break]

Trying to find her eyes and muzzle amidst the mound of fur encapsulating him, he realizes he is the first to stir, her lidded eyes telling the tale of a blissful, restful slumber. Her ears flicks the more he shifts, and her breathing hastens, but she does not immediately wake; for that time he is left alone with his thoughts. Spirits begin to dissipate as night begins to fade from the skies, and the disembodied whinnying of a horse can be heard echoing across the mountain, its cry a deliberate expression of free will.[break][break]

Somewhere on this mountain, or perhaps in it, Adrian is confident the mountain's keeper watches him reproachfully. What he has done surely defies the spirit of his natural order, even if Howitzer herself is not guilty of anything. At this juncture, Yveltal is surely pressed to render a verdict on the circumstances of this Howitzer's arrival.[break][break]

Or perhaps Yveltal simply has the wisdom to know it cannot last. That this Howitzer is also fated for ash and dust.[break][break]

Like the sunset, bleeding out across the sky. Adrian watches it with increasing reflection, but he cannot help himself. The part of him that is human needed this.[break][break]

He can feel Howitzer's moist nose, cold like the morning dew, pressing against his cheek as she stirs awake. Her tongue laps across her muzzle once, and deep eyes of amber match his. "Morning girl," he'd mouth softly.

It took them awhile to search deeper into the woods, and one noticed how the ambiance of the nearby town was drowned out by the gurgle of a brook and the natural wildlife all around them. Leaves rustled in the spring breeze while wintered branches groaned with the strain. One good storm would knock some of these over, he wagered; Hoenn's flora weren't used to weathering the winter.[break][break]

"We should keep an eye out for any signs of a distortion, just in case." They were proving to be more troubling than they were worth, in his eyes. What rewards could be reaped often forced a counterbalance of discord sowed across the region. Strange, unnatural pokemon forcing their way into an ecosystem that was alien to them.[break][break]

Adrian recollects his time spent with Angelo, when they encountered what he'd believed to be a strange aberration of an Ursaring. Honey would be just the thing to lure it here, and he didn't particularly desire that.

Garnering the Lillipup's trust is far easier than he might've thought, the little terrier pokemon walking right up to Howitzer for a bit of meet-and-greet. Adrian crouched over to lower his hand toward's its muzzle, allowing it to get a good sniff. After that they were basically best friends. He'd grab a berry that was too high for it to reach, and Howitzer played along with it happily enough.[break][break]

A short while later it wound up in a pokeball after befriending him. And although it was destined to be sold on the market, he felt a little better about it for having avoided an outright battle.

So when this bird came across Adrian and Howitzer, it made the mistake of thinking they were somehow less than it for lack of a wingspan with which to avail themselves of their terrestrial constraints.[break][break]

It took a short battle, more of a pummeling to prove it wrong. Where it thought the sky was its refuge, Howitzer quickly bounded up the trees using its extreme speed, before tackling it against the bark of another tree and meting a squawk from the astonished creatured.

Route 116 generally offers Psychic-type and Normal-type pokemon to choose from, and that made it a staple in the Unown hunter's itinerary. But with that pursuit finished, he now sets his sights on less specialized hunts.[break][break]

But that wouldn't matter with these Snorlax in the way.[break][break]

They'd parked their fat asses in the middle of the route after becoming lethargic, likely from gorging on all the berries in spring bloom. And although he could hardly blame them for living their best life, they were in the damn way. And since they wouldn't wake to battle, he instead tried to capture one with a heavy ball he had on hand.[break][break]

Howitzer does not whine so much now that she is acclimated to circumstance, but she is not quite so affectionate either. She does not forget her original trainer, her first Adrian, but neither does she fail to recognize his semblance. She is simply and tragically caught in this loop of guilt and suspicion. He hopes one day she is free.[break][break]

Until that day, this would be enough.
