he turns his head back to priam and zacharias long enough to see priam set up a series of toxic spikes - which is simply brilliant because apparently no one has figured out how to clear the obstacle, if past experience in hoenn was anything to judge by. dominic was about to make an acerbic comment to that effect, but the sound of a struggle behind him catches his attention.

on the ground, his houndoom continues maiming anything within CRUNCHING distance - which is a decent amount as they were forced close together due to the presence of zacharias’s houndoom. when some of the gardevoir try to usher the kirlia closer to them, dominic’s brow knits into a frown and he clicks his tongue as he reaches for another capsule to release a second pokemon.

a gallade bursts from its confines, blade-arms unsheathed. "IMPRISON," dominic calls out, a note of self-satisfaction clear in his tone as he watches the gardevoir’s protective barriers fail.

dominic turns back to priam and professor burke with a grin. "meet my green bastard."

while zacharias speaks, dominic listens intently though his expression remains impassive because pride wouldn’t allow him to give the man any more than that. his gaze alternates from his colleague to flickers in the gloom - white noise static given shape in the form of something like a MIRAGE.

"maybe i’ll keep an eye out for you." dominic lets the words rest for a moment and takes the chance to glance over zacharias’s shoulder to see what he’s looking at on his phone - very rude. dominic gives a short bark of laughter at the photos of zacharias and his gengar.

"very cute. mine just sings that fucking perish song constantly. gives me a migraine."

dominic is flopped across the sofa when marcel speaks, and he doesn't immediately respond, because that would require him to use brain power which he couldn't quite muster. his lips curl back into a faint smirk but he silences himself by jamming a popsicle into his mouth. at least the occupants keep the freezer well-stocked.

"don't jinx it," dominic says after a beat, voice slightly straining. he turns his head to look at marcel, tapping the popsicle against a canine thoughtfully for a moment before continuing. "are you okay? wearing all... that." he gestures at marcel's shirt and tie.

dominic sets down the drinks he was carrying for himself and his some cohort of companions with a delicacy that is atypical for him. maybe it's heatstroke or maybe it's some latent competitive edge or maybe - and its most likely this - its a result of all the other more acloholic drinks he's consumed, but something about the glistening watermelons beckons to him.

that doesn't stop him from hissing when the vendor makes contact with him to spin him three times.

he's so lost in thought, in reminiscing about the kubfu totalling his sofa, that the poochyena's ROAR catches him off-guard and forces him to physically recoil.

dominic watches as the park empties entirely of pokemon as a result, all heads turning toward first the poochyena, and then the pair of them.

"best make your escape," he said with a quirk of his lips and a vague gesture that could be interpreted as a wave. "maybe next time our pokemon won't assault each other. or inanimate objects."

the growlithe yelps in pain, but it turns to snarls of anger after a brief moment. dominic looks impassive, if a little drained.

"yeah, mine still is. might have to replace the sofa now," he says with a sigh. "you'd think there'd be a parenting guide or something online. what about yours?"

the growlithe had begun to roll on its back, snapping its teeth, growling and trying to lash out at the poochyena with its fluffy little paws.

dominic rubs his eyes with the heels of his hands and feels something like a decade older than he actually is.

"no," he says after a moment. "let them play."

he watches this display of snapping jaws and pointy little teeth flashing for several more moments. "at least it's not the kubfu."

at least the growlithe has thick, fluffy fur to protect itself from the poochyena's teeth, dominic supposed. he watches the little brawl for a second and only after a few moments does his gaze search for the poochyena's trainer.

when he catches sight of her, dominic raises a hand in a half-hearted wave.

the growlithe catches the poochyena's tail in his jaws and bites down.
