A few personnel from Benoit Armaments have commissioned some capable pokemon from the region's trainers. A few prime examples are those endorsed by the League, whose pokemon are trained well enough and with consideration to their surroundings, as well as a few more to help fulfill certain niches. Howitzer is among the former.

Despite the lighting being operational, the area still feels dark, hidden underground. It feels... eerie.

They're having trouble identifying their quarry amid the dilapidated power plant that is New Mauville. Voltorb, Magnemite and Nosepass are easily found rolling or hovering about, but they have need of a more elusive quarry that has taken to hiding in the rafters of the facility's ceiling.

"Should we try scarin' them out?" One man asks.

"Doesn't hurt to try," suggests the other, who seems to be in charge. He rambles about a few other priorities for the other task handler to see to (certain areas cannot be accessed without assistance, and certain pokemon have specialized tasks prepared for them) while he takes command of Howitzer's attention. He points upwards.

"Could you get some flames up there, girl?"

Howitzer complied, and in a sudden burst of light the rafters explode in a flurry of steel feathers, a chorus of disgruntled birds squawking as they are forced out of the comfort of their perch...

...Start baggin' and taggin' folks!

Seeing the steely birds scatter simultaneously as their perch is engulfed by fire, one of the men scratches the back of his head as despite getting their attention, the birds are still somewhat grouped together. "Ah damn, it looks like we'll have to do it the hard way." he says bitterly, looking over to his co-workers.

"Since that didn't work over too well, why don't we have one of the pokemon see if they can herd them out towards the others?" says one man. "Hey, that might actually work out." another chimes in, their eyes glistening at the idea.

Taka lets out a sharp cry, briefly flapping its wings to catch the attention of the nearby personnel. He's clearly eager to take up the task. Seeing this, one of the men nod and the Talonflame quickly takes flight, darting its way over to the much larger flock of birds. As a few feathers drop downwards from where it took off, its body quickly begins to envelop itself in flame weaving and dancing in the air as it approaches like a shooting star dropping from the sky.

The other birds seem shaken at the sight of incoming flame and split off from one another as Taka passes straight by. They seemingly relax after the brief brush with fire, but they soon find themselves reeling away in fright as the ball of fire simply turns mid-air and plummets back towards them, forcing them to flee closer to the others.

If not for the watchful gaze of the workers, Selene would have slithered away as soon as they’d entered the city. She had her own special way of trapping prey, and it didn’t involve firepower or redirection. Alas, she had a job to do, and Annie had made it very clear that it wasn’t an opportunity to find a new man. That wouldn’t stop her from trying, but first…

Her fiery friends’ efforts had set their targets up for a quick takedown, but a direct attack wasn’t her style. Not until they’d been toyed with a little, at least. Without waiting for a command, she reared her head back and opened her maw. Toxic gas spewed out like rolling coal, shooting straight to the plant’s ceiling instead of any of its inhabitants. The smog fanned out once it had no higher to go, rushing to embrace the squatters (and Taka, if he wasn’t careful). Some of the steel-types assumed that nothing could poison them – an assumption that would cost them dearly, thanks to Selene’s corrosion. The rest were formed to dive lower still to avoid the poison. Their choice didn’t matter much to the Salazzle. Either they were easy pickings for the pack, or they were about to be.

while benoit personnel round their targets up between flame and gas, noah's turtonator is ordered to block any exit. the gargantuan tortoise wields a massive shell. adorned with mountains of its own, the dragon marches in place as the squad continues to blow fierce flame.

as corviknight are forced out of their perch, several fly blindly into the dead-end of a turtonator shell. like striking a match, the shell suddenly bursts into an explosive balloon of flame. smoke marries with smog.

pokeballs are thrown. announcements of capture echo through the steeled hallways.

Alec's Charizard had positioned itself with a separate group of Benoit personnel, ready to the flock of Skarmory and Corviknight that were sent their way. Alec had told Inferno to not get to carried away like he normally would. That was because he had just became a Gym Leader of Hoenn, and getting out of hand would made both of them look bad in the eyes of the Benoit Armament.

Inferno was used to getting psyched and getting excited, but he had took Alec's words to heart and obeyed. "Alright! There coming this way!" One of the personnel had said. Inferno, with powerful flap of it's wings took flight after having been told incapacitate the flock in order for them to be captured. Inferno swung it's head from left to right, spewing a powerful flamethrower which had easily took down the small flock as expected.

Inferno flew down back to his designated group as they had began capturing the incapacitated steel birds.

ninetales f : flash fire - FLAME BURST, HEX, SAFEGUARD, FIRE BLAST

She's uncomfortable, surrounded by so many noises and sounds. It's jarring and she finds herself sticking close to the dense fur and musty smell of Adrian Malcolm's Arcanine. The beast smells similar enough to the Arcanine and Growlithe Stormy had back at home, and it was enough of a comfort for her.

Of course, being in such a strange and unfamiliar situation was certainly not comforting - but she was doing her best. Stormy was counting on her to use her cunning and strength to bring this assignment to a conclusion. It was crucial that she followed through with the woman's faith.

Unfortunately, being blind had its setbacks in such a crowded and panic-driven space.

The blue Ninetales feels the heat blast from Arcanine's maw, followed closely by the shift of wings and the squeals of startled and irritated Corviknight. Humans shout and guffaw, encouraging the Pokemon to try something else, or merely to keep it up.

Shrapnel from a Turtonator's shell nearly finds purchase in her fur, but her quick reflexes and acute hearing helps her to duck out of harm's way. Shallow breaths leave her as she tries to focus, tries to find a way to lend her own aid to the situation.

But patience is key, and she's been trained to wait for openings that others might not be able to see because they're too busy seeing.

The Ninetales has put up a safeguard to protect herself and her companions, and the shimmery barrier stands strong. But it's her hex that proves futile for several birds. Their steel feathers are alight with flame and she focuses on their pain and fear, striking them out of the sky with some sort of malevolent and dark ability.

Corviknight writhe on the ground as a result of her punishment and are swiftly bagged and tagged.

there's barely a delay between her command and burst of flame that spills out, enveloping the bird pokemon mid-flight. they're gathered up quickly as they fall, though there are some stragglers who kick off to make their escape. "follow them." pyrrhus' quick attacks ensure they don't make it far.

Each Pokemon finds purchase among the flock and the birds are sewn across the ground in a string of prizes. Fire swarms and the FLAMETHROWER makes their efforts dance across steel and iron.

Tender plates prove malleable underneath sharpened fangs. One CRUNCH renders resistance futile. Another task finished means another accomplishment under the pride's belt but the job is never truly done.

Many of the pokemon carry out their tasks with due diligence, some even providing a graceful display that has their retainers captivated.

While the bulk of their forces harry and corral the hysterical avian species, a few go above and beyond. Salazzle is able to sedate many of the pokemon with a controlled poison, rendering many meek and feeble, snuffing out any rebellious tendencies. Ninetales, Turtonator and Pyroar provide the humans protection, as the skarmory are particularly keen on lashing out against them, but to no avail. A few more birds drop from the air, the smog dulling their senses until they're unconscious. Only the Corviknight seem to resist.

Talonflame and Charizard are hot in pursuit, forcing them into the paths of the flames Arcanine, Ninetales and Typhlosion keep spewing, making them little more than cannon fodder.

"Remarkable," one of the Benoit Armaments personnel admits in mild astonishment. They had sent in a crew of men before with ultra balls, but their inadequacy had revealed itself when they came back battered and in tatters. These pokemon were a cut above the common rabble, clearly.

"Good work, everyone," his words are directed more at the pokemon than the human companions. "Let's finish this up and head back in." The human element is left cleaning up the scores of fallen birds, while the pokemon are free to relax and enjoy the fruits of their labors. A few personnel spoil them with offerings of berries they pull from their pockets as a show of thanks. How sweet.

And with that, their job is ended.
