In a world full of coincidence just as it was full of hardship, Desiree could not fathom such a gift being bestowed through the knowledge that one would soon fall victim to the endless cycle of life and death. She listened to him softly, wishing that not only the deceased but the region that surrounded them could have been more fortunate- but wishes could only change so much, and their influence seemingly stopped at the departure of souls. It was quite unfortunate falling into the role of a watcher, a survivor, as it was fearing the ethereal presence that stood before her.[break][break]

"I wish I could have met him, so I could understand more," she said, eyes wandering from the ashen to its newfound retainer, ".. it's now up to you to carry on that legacy, Josh.. to be the down to earth you've once admired. And I know you, that should be more than enough."[break][break]

But with such an importance Kyle had, both in the infrastructure and the livelihood of so many that he had touched, she feared that none would be able to ascend to fill the void that was left. But Josh was right, enough of that- enough of all the fears, enough of all the paranoia that sulked through the veins of pink that ultimately wished for love and happiness of all. Forcing a smile, forcing all of it to be tucked away for the spiral she inevitably would experience when the eggs had been delivered, she took a deep breath and a swig of water.[break][break]

"All ready, let's do it," she responded, slipping a bottle back upon the saddle sacks of her beloved tree creature. "Help me up?"

The thought of having every kind of paradoxical that she had been made to witness inside of his gym led her smile to falter slightly; partially envious as his kind heart had granted so many the opportunity of redemption, of training, but partially brought back to the lulling to permanent sleep she had brought so many of them to endure. She once believed that it was the only chance at securing love in the world, securing her own life. And it was, at least, when the Roaring Moon had tried to push its fangs into her neck.[break][break]

Telling him of the red stains she had been forced to clean from her palms from the winged beast was something she wished never to whisper into his ear. Looking into the eyes of Josh's Raging Bolt, she tried to desperately forget- and it was quite the sensation, one that she had since been deprived of from the one she called her own. Maybe one day it would, truly, be her own.[break][break]

"Kyle's.. last gift to you," she said softly, pupils dilating in response to such a release, ".. and here I thought the gift bestowed was one now as.. ordinary, as the ones born from the rip in the earth."[break][break]

It made so much more sense, the letter that had been directed to her amongst the other personnel- but it was just as somber nevertheless. Especially with it bearing the resemblance of ash, a vision that she had known far too well. Watching the pyroclastic flow from the forest spanning beneath the volcano, in its shadow, was something else entirely.. amongst the nausea of being one that delved into the pain the toxic chain sought in its expansion.[break][break]

"Swift, hi," she said to the Raikou softly, eyes meeting the blades of grass hoisting the mythological, ".. I never had a chance to meet the Top Champion, I'm just.. really sorry for such a loss, Josh."[break][break]

She felt even worse, as among those who felt so much pain and heartache, she never bore the ties to truly feel the same- just parasocial, but seeing those she truly loved mourn struck needles. Especially as she knew no words of hers could truly bring comfort with such a bleak reality.. and the implications that came with his disappearance.

The prominence of the sorrow that coursed through the streets was devoid of all the fantasies she had sought, all that she had dreamed of falling upon the shoulders of the world. It was a habit of hers to chase distractions, though the directness of the dragon keeper led her to keep the gift box tucked behind her purse; some things could not be helped with kind gestures and pleasantries, not anymore.[break][break]

Just dedication and furthering of preventative measures; and in a way, the misfortune of the present had interwoven with the dread that had befallen her past, the things that led her to seek the ability to now stand beside her newfound counterpart.[break][break]

"It's alright, with everything that's been going on," she said softly with a partial smile, gathering her things and reinforcing her physical refinery, habitually, ".. I hope it hasn't been.. too nightmarish here, for you. I've been spending time in the forest.. since, you know."[break][break]

There was not an inkling in her mind that led her to believe they existed on the footing of war, at least, against forces that bore the will of the flesh and the human psyche- unbound by the toxic chain. Maybe then, she wouldn't yap like she always did.. but then, if she was left to experience her thoughts for too long without the voice of another, she would have to navigate the grim darkness of paranoia all the same. Her focus lay on the cosmos rather than those bearing terrorist insignia, blissfully ignorant but starry eyes opened.[break][break]

"Let's." She nodded, following behind her with graceful yet hesitant strides. From the cap of a following Hatterene, donning an ethereal veil of a mushroom, PSYCHIC TERRAIN wafted around them amidst their approach- such a fairy craved release, regardless of power existent in the veins of its opponent. In the trees it once existed ruthlessly, exacting the will of the light in the forest without hesitance. Now was not the time to fall into the fear of the flames that lick the world, not after all it had been made to endure.

The emptiness of the rooms that she peered into was yet another reminder of how empty she felt while looking into the eyes of all the others- all the victims, all her loves, and all those that had once channeled bitter malice. It was beginning to feel impossible to save and covet each one of them; she wished to, but with each moment she felt she was beginning to have an upper hand in doing so, another appeared and brought an additional crack in her already fractured heart. The cries of the unknown were nearly missed due to the echoing of hers after being made to depart from Yuina Higashi's grasp.. but she heard them.[break][break]

She wished to see them, too- to allow whatever it may have been to know that it was not alone in the dread that it experienced. "It's okay.. to cry," she spoke into the dream-lit universe, ".. it means we have some of what we need sticking around.. even after it all.." A safe feeling, a release that was all the more needed- especially as she could not recall if she had cried when the toxic chain had taken control of her the first time, but assumed that she had not.[break][break]

As the dream ended, she flung from her uncomfortable spot on the floor and attempted to near jack wainwright as a means to convey anything she may have seen that he may have not. "There was nothing behind the walls, Pamplemousse," she said softly, hushed by fear that she may be speaking words that should have been left unsaid in the eyes of their captors, ".. just tears.. from someone- or something I could not see.. and someone I love that exists upon the ugly.." That, in itself, was too much to unpack- especially as she could not retreat into her arms, something her soul craved above all. All she could retreat into was the chewing of the poison, the mochi.[break][break]

"Is that what.. the red-haired woman is to you, too?" Something further to fight for, another wonder egg that had yet to fragment, one that needed to be sure to hatch on the outside. She wished to embrace him as a means to give her cellmate further hope, even if it felt as if it were trickling out from the remnants in a far too-dried chalice- but the game of laughing began, and he was selected. Pain did not have a chance to take root at the sight, the snatching- for she was to chant and giggle against her will, rather.[break][break]

What would be next, being forced to attempt to slaughter like the last time? After the laughing hour had ceased and they had been put to work once more, she approached as a means to give sorry- and some strength too, even if it were just through a simple hand resting upon Pamplemousse's shoulder for a small, fleeting moment. She worked until hours became days, and days became a week- giving all she could, loyally eating the mochi provided as a means to preserve her body.[break][break]

"I'd never willingly laugh at a soul forced to endure mistreatment," she said to Jack sometime during their lengthy stay, softly, having been forced to relive it each time, ".. but we can laugh with the others, we can cry with them.. too.. we can kill with them when the time comes.. if it ever comes.."[break][break]

If it ever comes- time melds until she is eventually led into the Chamber of Desires, the place that she once wished to go to as a means for a reward for her beautiful, exquisite behavior. The Wellspring Mask had a draw like none other; it reminded her of gazing at the draconid temple after the smashing of her rocks, looking into the eyes of her beloved, staring into the hole at the tip of the needle.[break][break]

The visions danced with all the colors of the rainbow, a kaleidoscope of wavering lights forming curtains around an endless expanse of swirling ivies and roses following suit. Desiree existed on a stage much like the pedestal that sat in the middle of the ward.. though instead of cells, chairs stretching as far as the eye could see hosted the faces of every soul that had ever left a beautiful impression on her soul. They clapped as she spun through the skies, the toxic chain hoisting her body as it gracefully twirled like an aerial burlesque dancer swinging upon a ribbon of magenta- a song that should have been hers played as they smiled and laughed, held together by chains of the same likeness.[break][break]

"Love is in the world once more, the truest facet!"[break][break]

Everyone cheered, even herself- she continued to spin as radiant petals fluttered downward from the pink skies, a lone one landing on her belly. It seemed to be enlarged, a slit opened from her dress revealing it alongside twin moons adorning the skin. In a world where peace and love flourished, strangely enough through the embracing of the toxic chain, she was finally able to settle down. To be a mother rather than a warrior, something she had never imagined in her wildest dreams solely due to the battles she had endured since her eyes had truly opened to the world.[break][break]

This would not be the first time the universe played a cruel trick; a false sight brought upon by the effects of something much greater than natural biology, these kinds of wandering eyes were things she believed she was used to. In the world of dreams, she was blessed to be lucid rather than lost.. it was so easy to frolic about and regain the optimism she lost in the vote. Not anymore, not in the presence of the one who needed protecting more than any other.[break][break]

A hand that was no longer dirtied brushed Yuina Higashi's cheek at their mutual approach, leading her to flinch when she had not been whisked away into clouds of morning dew and cotton puffs. It did not need to be a trick to feel so cruel. Backing up a few steps, heel clacks emanating through the bottoms of an oversized puffer coat, she wished not to believe it. Perhaps it was the voices she had been told her friend was forced to endure, the reactions of the cosmos leading her to become lucid from the sheets of her own home.[break][break]

It had to be. "You're at home, tucked away in your bed.. under the covers," she bit her lip, the sting of salt creeping into the chap, ".. you have to be. I.. didn't see you on the platform.. or in the cells next to mine."[break][break]

Blotting a tear with her dream sleeve, she tumbled a fragment of marble under her heel.. soon kicking it off of a downward city slope. She could not look Yuina in the eyes- she didn't want to believe any possibility her dearest had fallen victim to the chain and the Megalopolans. None of it made sense- why her? Why them, if it were too unfortunate to be a lie?[break][break]

"Hold onto that, yeah? Have pride in being a champion, you deserve that recognition, Josh," she said with a smile as she took his hand, guiding herself into the blades of grass that caught the sun. One day, she figured it would be fun to continue taking challenges like she had the first time they met- perhaps in the year following this one if the cosmos would be so generous to stop providing turmoil after turmoil. Yet, she considered herself to already be a champion; she had shed the weak chrysalis long ago in the depths of the swamp, and the outcome she wished for had nothing to do with taking on a title.[break][break]

Retaining qualities of those with those titles, taking up a sword of her own, seemed to be the most effective. Upon Josh's release of the similar Raging Bolt, she felt pain trickle behind her eyes as she backed up a few steps in worry- a habit from attempting to interact with the one that rested in a ball deep within the folds of her purse. Breathing softly, she hesitantly held out a hand to the creature as she listened, flinching to retract now and then.[break][break]

"By Scream Tails?" she asked curiously, ".. they're quite fearful in groups, I've dealt with one myself. I'm sorry, big guy."[break][break]

Even more fearful having known that so many had faced the wrath of her fairies due to their sheer hostility- she did not understand why she gave one a chance, a hopeful pluck into a world unknown to many of the paradox creatures. Scars painted over with tattoos seemed to be the price to pay for their loyalty. But, now, so many had poured their crimson into her palms all the same. If only they knew of the lives they forbade to take to mindless hostility.[break][break]

Her head tilted at the sight of the ashen yet luminous feather. "Are you burning up?" Her voice trailed out in the form of concern, unsure how to perceive the sight. She recalled the message she received of the retaining of Raikou, though in those moments, she misconstrued it as the keeping of one of the long-necked from the great chasm. A memo that she figured would be worthy of sending herself, though she forbade it simply due to having not quelled its instincts to bash and kill.[break][break]

Not yet, at least. She was hopeful just as she was with all the other strange creatures that had fallen into her bejeweled hands.
