"Ah... I love the bread here! Their butter is to die here!"

A large plate of bread sat on the table outside a certain Rustboro café. An archaeologist sat at one of the chairs and looked at one, before preparing to take a bite.

A swarm of Dustox and Beautify flew overhead, flitting ahead in the wind as they did so. One zipped by and took the bread from Howard's outstretched fingers. His jaw closed down on nothing as he opened his eye. It narrowed as it watched the insect fly away with his precious cargo.

Some people would say there was no use crying over spilled milk. Howard disagreed.

"GET BACK HERE!" Howard shouted as he ran from his table after the Dustox. "GIVE ME BACK MY MOCHI!"

A waiter rushed to Howard as he jumped the fence, but it was too late. The historian was gone. All the waiter could do was watch helplessly as an unpaid checkbook sat unused on the table next to a basket of perfectly good bread.

More Toxic Chained Pokémon, but thankfully this time it was just a bunch of common bugs. One of the infected Dustox had latched unto some rich lady and was gnawing at her priceless fur coat. The lady's screams drew the attention of a certain patrolling PokéManiac.

It was quite the rare sight to see the usually night owl Dustox fluttering about with their Beautifly counterparts in broad daylight. However, on close inspection, it was clear that both hordes of Pokemon were affected by the same toxic chains that Noel had been encountering lately. Something was going down in Hoenn and he would try to get to the bottom of it. First, he needed to take care of these flying insects that were spreading their poisonous material all around Rustboro.[break][break]

Left and right, he and his Milotic were taking down the bugs with ease. Even with their chains that led them to go into a frenzy, they were still no match for the trainer. Everything was going as smooth as butter and soon they would remedy their behavior, getting these Pokemon the help they need.

It was a beautiful morning in Rustboro; the sun was shining, the birds were singing, and Eddie was having himself something of a one-man karaoke session as he cooked breakfast. [break][break]

He sang loudly to the lyrics piped in from the tinny, inexpensive Bluetooth speaker that sat on the counter nearby. It was a sweet, saccharine tune that he'd first heard when his baby brother Cris had sat him down to watch the show it was written for some years ago. Eddie's disinterest at the time was entirely fabricated; the show was cute as hell, and Sawako was an adorable young woman who only deserved the best that the world had to offer. But Eddie, for all of his frustrating pride, couldn't let himself enjoy such things in the company of others, which is why he'd finished the first season of Kimi ni Todoke in the privacy of his own apartment some weeks later. [break][break]

But that was neither here nor there. In this moment, Eddie's attention shifted to the mixture of eggs and potatoes in the pan he was currently attending to, carefully flipping the tortilla de patatas over with the assistance of a nearby plate to keep himself from making a mess of the dish. Things were going remarkably well, all things considered, until the flapping of wings tore him from his cooking. [break][break]

Why the hell was there Dustox fluttering about just above his dresser? Oh God, oh no, it must have gotten in through the window he'd opened earlier that morning! Eddie charged at the thing, spatula raised in an attempt to shoo the Pokemon back out the way it came, [break][break]

“Get out! Get the fuck outta my apartment!” he shouted indignantly, swinging the cooking utensil wildly. The moth dodged him with ease; was that little shit smirking at him? [break][break]

“Alright, that's it! You asked for it!” [break][break]

Striding back towards the apartment's entrance, Eddie procured a Poke Ball from a grocery bag by the door and hucked it at the offending creature. That was one way to get the damn thing out of his place, but cleaning up all the gross dust it tracked everywhere was going to be another matter entirely. [break][break]

The sight of the Beautiflies and Dustox would be mesmerising, if there also wasn't this ominous feeling to it. As with the Spidops, here, it seems like the Toxic spreading through Hoenn might be involved, too ... Nonetheless, it's still a beautiful sight that makes Cass' heart Skip Beats. "That's quite a swarm today - two pokémon types! Though I guess it's both Wurmple?" Cass says to Thea who's accompanied her to the swarm today. She also believes to see Knight in the crowd of pokémon, but it's a bit hard to navigate the streets right now.

"It is strange though to see Dustox at this time of the day ... I hope they're okay. Maybe this Fruits Basket will cheer them up?" she wonders, placing a basket of sweet fruit onto the ground. She removes the packaging from it, letting the sweet smell spread. She feeds Jon in her hands fruits from another box - fruits that hasn't made the cut when she prepared the basket, and then left outside a bit longer.

Truly, she should maybe not touch it that freely - one can only hope it wouldn't be her Last Game.

"Oh, this one's quite pretty, isn't it, Thea?" she then asks her friend, pointing towards one of the butterfly/moth pokémon in particular, taking out one of her pokéballs. "Let's see..." Time to take the chance for a Blue Spring Ride!

Thea checked her Pokédex as Cass asked about it, and it confirmed. "Exactly! You are sure doing your homework, huh? But you are right... Poor things, if they are feeling troubled right now." Thea muttered, a bit concerned.[break][break]

But of course, soon Cass has something to try to help them. It was very nice of her, it seemed like she always had something under her sleeve to help. "Maybe that will help! I should've brought something, but I do have some special snacks here... They are extra Buttery too, so I'm confident about its texture~" She hummed, taking some of the snacks and also putting them down close to where her friend had put down the fruits.[break][break]

... Still, it was unexpected. Yeah, the whole toxic thing was bad, but what were the chances of such a beautiful swarm to appear right on the day she was sharing with someone she liked so much? And to be able to once again witness her kindness, that sometimes contrasted with her bratty way to be. It just felt... Nice... It warmed Thea in a funny way, it made her lungs a little breathless, and with a few heart skips— Thea wondered, what was it that was making her feel like that?[break][break]

"Yeah, it is very pretty..." She smiled, looking fondly at Cass and then back at the Pokémon.[break][break]

Was it A Condition Called Love?[break][break]

"Aah... AAAAH!"[break] Her eyes opened widely as she felt the warmth and breathlessness build up with a tingle in her nose. "ACHOOOOO!"[break][break]

Fact of the matter that when Dustox—normally nocturnal Pokémon—were being spotted in broad daylight, he realized that something was definitely up.

Geez, what in the flying absolute fuck was going on?!

(And to think he’d stopped by the city to pick up some buttermilk as well as some actual butter for cooking something! Well, cousin dearest had asked him for something to eat so who was he to say no to her?!)

Either way…

“Geez, this is bad,” he would continue quietly, radioing in the situation to any and all Rangers who happened to be nearby—and trying to summon to help deal with the extremely thick horde of Dustox and Beautifly that had settled around the city like a literal, living, flapping blanket…

“This shit is getting out of hand!”

"Haven't you heard, Daddy? The news said that we have to stay inside, apparently, there is a big swarm of Dustox and Beautifly that are around! The air is super bad right now!"

Laurence had almost finished putting his coat on, his keys in his hands as he had started his morning routine of going to the Rocket headquarters. This information now though, had stopped him in his tracks. He was sure that he'd have gotten word that this was something that had happened, rumors and news spread through the rocket's medical ward like an airborne pathogen. But, to think that he'd hear it from his kid before anything, was surprising. 

"Really now...And you heard this from the news? When was this?"

The father cocked a brow, the coat he had slowly slipped off to go back onto the rack as he grabbed his phone to check the phone, alerts of the issue clouding the screensaver. So, she was right...And to think he'd had ignorantly started his day, he could've been a patient in his own hospital. 

"It said it this morning! That's why I'm here still, the driver hadn't come at all today!"

Sophia replied, making Laurence look from his phone for a moment. True, today was a school day for her, and for her to be here did mean that something had to have happened. That checked out too...Laurence scratched the back of his head, letting out a brief chuckle. Then today would be a work-from-home day, nothing too difficult, he'd enjoy his time with his daughter. 

"Wow, and to think you watch the news, I always thought kids watched cartoons like Sailor Moon and all that. Thanks for looking out for me, how about we go and get an extra breakfast in then?"


The question elicited a grin from her, something that easily brought a smile to him. Yup. Today would be a work-from-home day.

After the last time he got spore'd into submission, Hideo put a plan together for any powder-heavy Pokemon. And sure enough, he got a report about a bunch of Dustoxes and Beautiflies getting chain'd.

Time to put his plan to use. It was a deep, well-thought-out plan: have his Galarian Weezing filter the air around him.

It seemed to work pretty well, and Hideo could breathe easy enough, the boy eating a Buttered Biscuit as he made his way through the swarm. And the odd Dustox that tried to attack him, got a faceful of Strange Steam.

Easy peasy.

First, it was the painters of the trees, and now it had made its way into the minds of the butterflies and moths that once nested in the branches that had yet to be splattered. The toxic chain was a phenomenon that she knew better than most, as she was present and inflicted when it first had been birthed from its chrysalis- but it was incomprehensible how fast it had reemerged after months of stillness and softness. Perhaps it was a curse, a grim reminder that things could fester after the nightmares took root?[break][break]

She wouldn't be surprised if it would soon make its way into the unliving, food that she and all the others let into their systems each day. A toxic chain tucked behind the fried layer of a glistening onion ring, acquainting with the BUTTER and remnant of lard to deliver a sinister bite. What a joyless thought of what could yet be deprived.[break][break]

And another, as the nausea prompted by the sight and the efficiency of the infection should have bestowed a thought to wear a mask earlier than these moments. "Divine," she said softly, using a palm to cover her lips as the swarm danced through skies of vibrant color and raining toxins, ".. help me save one."[break][break]

Rapidly unsheathing its twin blades, the Doublade was quick to inflict a slash of its SACRED SWORD against one of the inflicted buggies. Enough to weaken it and cause its chain to break, but in the end, was saving one enough to dampen the effects the toxic chain sought to bring to the world? She threw a pink ball with ample effort, trying her hardest to mask her breaths with hold.[break][break]

So much effort indicated otherwise, along with the effects they had explicitly brought upon the pinkette, even with her lackluster precautions. It would likely be like a single fragment of salt in the BUTTER, doing nothing to season. But at least she could say she helped in trying.[break][break]

It had been a slow day, so it made sense to swing by the Rustboro Gym and see if was in. But he'd picked the wrong time, obviously.[break][break]

Dustox and beautifly blotted out the sky, fluttering around the exterior of the gym in swirling groups. Powder dusted off of their wings and spun through the air. He gets a whiff of the stuff before he can pull the collar of his hoodie up over his nose, and it makes his stomach turn over.[break][break]

And they have those toxic chains too - so this isn't a normal pokemon swarm, looks like. "Eugh.." Taking this as a cue to help him out, Peaches decides that hosing him off with a dose of HYDRO PUMP will clear away the toxins. "Thanks....." he grumbles after he's finished sputtering and wiping the water from his eyes.[break][break]

"Woulda been better if you'd aimed at the dustox, but ya know what, good job." He snorts out a laugh as the psyduck strikes a pose. "You're not Sailor Moon, though." She huffs indignantly as he aims a pokeball at one of the winged culprits.

It was the time for Zachary to face his greatest fears. Dizzy was trying hard to 'butter Zachary up' for this, to stoke his confidence. Zachary had many adventures and tough battles , including Area Zero and Mt. Pyre. However, what he feared most was not what most expected. [break][break] And there they came, the swarm of insects, specifically Dustox that crept Zachary out to no end. While he tolerated and even love Beautifly and how friendly they could be-- the nature of bugs still sent shivers up and down Zachary's spine. And he was now smack in the middle of a warm of them. [break][break] "BUUUUUUUUUUGGGGSSS!!" Zachary screamed, seeing the Dustox start to surround him. Why couldn't the Beautifly be more drawn to him ? But nope, the Dustox enjoyed causing Zachary chaos. [break][break] The poor blue-haired boy ran around like a Blaziken with its tail on fire-- leaving Dizzy the Delphox to look at his master and trainer. [break][break]A bleak sigh of embarrassment came from the fox, wishing his master wouldn't be so scared of something so small...[break][break]

Trey had only just made it to the outskirts of Rustboro when he stopped in his tracks, staring at the edge of the city with unblinking, and at a this point, unfazed, eyes. Seemed like another swarm was occurring, and wouldn't you believe it—one of the participating pokemon had an affinity with poison. He even spied a Toxic Chain or two. What a lovely day for a stroll.

"Look at me, Wisp; I've learned," he said, rummaging in his back for a medical mask. He immediately covered his mouth and nose with the black fabric, waggling his brows playfully at the Haunter. She rolled her eyes and sagged midair, clearly finding his good humor hilarious. However, now that he couldn't eat the butter cookie in his hand, she flicked her tongue out and lapped it up, chowing down as her trainer shuddered from the contact. He'd never get used to that.

"Anyway," he redirected, head tilting towards the buildings that were beginning to become infested with the bugs. "Might as well help with cleanup here, too. Start knocking 'em down with Shadow Balls."

Wisp was delighted to partake in a little action. The first orb of darkness she sent out collided with a sheet of Dustox, at least half a dozen floating down to the ground as they sprayed off the brick. Pollen rained down, and Trey was glad that he was operating on the outskirts, not within the city proper.

Tempest jogs in place as he waits for to come out of the little bakery. He'd not felt like eating at the moment and requested something to go; his stomach had been churning something fierce the last few days.[break][break]

It wasn't too often that Tempest got to have these little moments with his husband, so he's a little disappointed that the world decides to piss on them. The Dustox and Beautifly would be a pretty date-scene if it wasn't for the poison and weird chains.[break][break]

Sighing, he sends out his Flareon to start torching the bugs as they fly in the air. it's only for show he even bothers to pretend to toss a pokeball.
