LATE SEPTEMBER — as ultra wormholes are sighted in the seas of hoenn, the region begins to be tainted by poisons, the source of which is unknown. parts of hoenn's seas darken with toxic waste, like oil spills. for this reason, head scientist, lucas lane, has entrusted volunteers with a special antidote formula that he has helped create with elite four, thomas benoit's sludge sample.[break][break][break]

deep, within the closed off portions of the cave of origin, darkness spreads in an effort to submerge the ruins completely. the guards stationed to protect the historical sight have either gone missing or abandoned their post due to the strange phenomenon. the league's archaeological department has requested trainers to help investigate.[break][break][break]

even at the entrance, it becomes increasingly obvious that something is afoot. the crobat that seldom leave their roost now congregate at the cave's entrance, as if forced out. many of them are injured, suffering severe burns that implicate vaporization instead of fire. try as they might, their echolocation does nothing to probe the encroaching darkness. it robs your senses like it did their home.[break][break][break]

to those who roll 100: your efforts manage to pierce through the darkness. before it dissipates, you swear you can see an array of different colors, mere speckles in the distant, but very much there. [break][break][break]

otherwise: no one is able to shed light on the mysterious anomaly. eventually, it disappears on its own accord. coincidentally, the cave has been vandalized. terrible claw marks run throughout its length. old pictures and runes are now unreadable. this is a terrible loss for hoenn's history.[break][break][break]

The fact that trouble was happening in the cave of Origin was quite concerning. It had been ages since Balder has landed in Sootopolis, but he couldn't sit this one out. He had been a temporary protector of the Cave of Origins, but that place held a big value to the region. Saving it was a priority. [break][break]

The gathering of Crobats at the entrance of the Cave was definitely not a good sign. While Balder left his own Crobat to try and calm the wild ones, he entered the location with his Duraludon in tow. The screeching and the echolocations of the bat pokemons definitely didn't help with the investigation, however.[break][break]

It didn't take long for the group to reach the the darkness that was still growing. An unnatural veil of black. Balder was about to emit a whistle, but the noise from the bats would have hindered the sound. Thus, he tapped on Duraludon's shoulder, signaling him to use Flash Cannon, using the gathering of light energy to try and push the darkness away.

[attr="class","spiral"]Sootopolis is an unnerving place at the best of times as far as Evangeline is concerned. A lone city, in the middle of the ocean, based in a crater shrouded in mystery and history. But that's why Evangeline makes the visits she has. That unfamiliar feeling of something scuttling up and down her spine is enthralling.

All the more so when she finds out there's something other people find unnerving to discover, too.

Feigning an interest in helping she manages to make her way towards the entrance of the cave, her recently acquired Venonat riding on her shoulder. It's just as everyone said. The Crobat flit about anxiously, those who can flit about, and nervously screech into the darkness. That scuttling sensation hits her like a truck at the sight.

"Hmm, you've got pretty good eyes, right?" Evangeline asks her Venonat nonchalantly, she gives a short squeal in answer, "Can you see anything?"

Her Venonat takes a moment to gaze long and harder into the dark, yawning cave mouth. The many lenses of her COMPOUND EYES try to see what not even sound can touch.

Another anomaly; and Sénon was finally recognizing the patterns.

Something strange was happening some where uncommon for humans to roam. The few who did were dying and coming up missing and the survivors were reporting in with no leads. The league dispatches rangers, officers or other trainers with certain talents and/or a likeliness to succeed, or at least survive. The trainers show up to look for leads only to find the pkmn native to the area were displaced and sometimes enraged.

Here it was the zubat colony; they bodies raw and dried with injury but no signs of fire; like they had been scorched by pressured hot air.

Sending out Chansey under his orders she would emit a HEAL PULSE for the zubat and the other trainer's pkmn at the cave entrance until he returned.

Needing light he called out Corsola. "Use POWER GEM to hit the walls; try not to damage them." Determined to be a contributor she blasted beams of sparkling light as he carried her.

As hard he looked, all he could make out were substantial claw marks over old pictures, engravings, runes and glyph markings. Once again they were too late to help and unable to find any leads. With Corsola and Chansey in tow he made his exit with the others.

No one can keep Gavin away from an archaeological opportunity — today, they're not even trying. He's here on the League's recommendations as a scientist and well-respected trainer. It makes him giddy with amusement.[break][break]

He first notices the Crobat congregating at the entrance, feels a moment's sympathy for the grievous burns.[break][break]

What could have caused something like that?[break][break]

Gavin's Klingklang clicks and whirs as it hovers alongside him, the duo swallowed up by the shadow as they step inside. Much like the Crobat attempt to echolocate, Klingklang fires off a round of MIRROR SHOTS; they clink off of walls, floors, ceiling, providing a moderate sense of direction in the abyssal darkness.[break][break]

"Hmm..."

The Ranger ran a hand across the wall, assisted by Flash from another Trainer. Claw marks, ruined texts... It was a shame, really. So much history on offer just desecrated, seemingly without sense. Who, or what, had done this? He wasn't really sure, but whatever it was, was likely dangerous. It had been causing a stir with the local Crobat as well, indicating it was more than likely an it. Though with those... People running around, who knew?

"Lightning, scout ahead" he commanded calmly as his Raichu zipped forward, as Josh followed soon after. Maybe they would find something? Perhaps not. Either way, there was a lead. Even one as small as getting a read on the threat's capabilities.

Ducking to avoid a stray crobat here and there among those that gathered at the entrance, the boy was one of the last on the scene. Seemed the mysterious goings on here had drawn quite the crowd. After actually dipping into the cave, numerous trainers further ahead had illuminated the way at various points. It wasn't as nice as the lit pathway of some cave tour, but it was serviceable.

Couldn't have prepared better for a dark spelunking expedition....fuck....

One way or another Rufio and Morph the Morpeko had found themselves on some adventure volunteer teem, currently exploring some dark place they felt ominous and eerie. Despite the latter not striking fear in Rufio, the fact that he couldn't see drove him crazy as he didn't want to get lost or look stupid by walking into a wall or tripping onto his face.

Morph, try to give us a little light...don't zap me...

Groaning the ginger would watch then as his Morpeko begin to on and off emit sparks in an attempt to preform a slow low strobe light effect, but how useful could that be?
