"The Kricketune are out, can you hear them?"[break][break]

Amidst the quiet of the night, Stormy can hear the quiet rise and fall of music. It's calming, despite the eerieness. If she was being honest, lingering in the belly of Petalburg forest long after the sun had set was not in her list of 'favourite things'. In fact, it was hardly even ideal. She much preferred the heat of the sun on her shoulders and the ability to see.[break][break]

But when she closed her eyes, the Kricketune's song was quite relaxing, rewarding her a sense of peace. The woman exhales slowly through her nose, and just as her eyes open she gasps, nudging her partner sharply before pointing into the dark.[break][break]

"Look!"[break][break]

Slowly but surely, twinkling lights blink in and out of focus. It appears that the Ledian and Ledyba had finally come out of hiding finally. It had only taken several hours of sitting on their hands and practicing patience. They'd already burst through their stores of snacks, unfortunately, but now they were meeting their reward: the real reason they'd been sent here.[break][break]

"They're beautiful."[break][break]

It was quiet.

[break][break] To anyone who knew him, this was not a situation that they would have adhered him to. After all, Circhester's prince was many things — handsome, talented, equipped with a silver tongue. However quiet was not one of them. Even from the moment he was born from his mother's womb, the young heir had come in with a piercing cry and a threshold of rumors to boot.

[break][break] At the time, whispers had traveled rapidly among the castle's walls.

[break][break] "A son?" they had said, in horror.

[break][break] "Wasn't she supposed to be Arielle - "

[break][break] "Whatever will they name her - him?"

[break][break] Quiet was not a word attributed to the young prince. Certainly not at his birth, nor as he aged. He was a person who drew attention into any room that he walked into, whether it be naturally or simply because he commanded it. This was not a thing that had ever changed. In general, this was not a thing that bothered him — he prefered the sound, the noise, the loudness.

[break][break] It was a distraction, from his thoughts. His worries. His concerns.

[break][break] There was, however, one situation in which he did prefer the quiet and it was this — fencing. Whenever he practiced, whether it be alone or when he was sparring with his master, the young prince could be effectively silenced. His focus was honed in on the moment, as he grasped the hilt of his blade. Castor's metal edge gleamed in the moonlight amongst the pollen and dust of the night, as the Ledian and Ledyba floated out of their stores. Each of his swipes through the air were silent, each of his movements fluid and graceful.

[break][break] Artie was in the moment, and he did not - could not - hear anything else. Until —

[break][break] "They're beautiful."

[break][break] The words, though soft, cut crisp through the air. The blond stilled, legs spread apart in a single stance before they smoothly slid together and he straightened. He slid Castor into the royal scabbard at his hip, the sapphire jewels gleaming as he turned around.

[break][break] His eyes, champagne-pink, were illuminated by the moon and glowed as he looked at Stormy Silph . The prince smiled.

[break][break] "You're beautiful," he said, with a wink.

[break][break] He appreciated her compliment — it was only right he return it.

Razz was doing what he could to keep his eye from drifting. Sleep was still alluding him so he took on jobs like this to try to make himself tired. And with the Kricketune seeming to try and set the mood like that crabby from that cartoon he was getting more tired. Razz yawned while they were still there. Not really as fascinated by the bug pokemon during the month of love as his senior ranger was. "Hard to miss 'em" he answers back tiredly as he takes in the scene. [break][break]

Honestly he's a bit confused by the other playing swordsman there, but as long as he wasn't interfering with the ladybug pokemon then it wasn't a crime for him to be there. His eye was drifting again as the song continues before he feels a small jab to his side waking up the young ranger again as he took a moment register what she was asking for before taking a look as finally Ledian and Ledyba were taking up the sky. Why did looking at them make him uneasy? Oh.... [break][break]

"Do... do you think any of these guys will wield spears?" the tired man ask as he thinks back to his time on an old island. Though it seems at Stormy's comment seemed to interup the guy playing swordsman and being the natural people person he was the ranger just lazily pointed at the bugs, "I think she meant them..."

Stormy is utterly oblivious to Razz's bland responses and tiredness. She even misses his yawn because she is wrapped up in admiring the scene and trying not to jinx the fact that they hadn't been interrupted by any predator Pokemon. [break][break]

Well, not a Pokemon, anyway.[break][break]

An unfamiliar voice crops up not a second after she confesses her deepest emotions. Frankly, she isn't sure where he'd even come from or why she hadn't shooed him away sooner. His swordplay was dangerous foreplay, and now he was turning the spotlight on her.[break][break]

Rather than be flattered or encourage him in any way, Stormy's attention shifts to the bored response of her ranger partner for the evening. He's right, she had been talking about them- them being the Ledian and Ledyba. Them being the night sky sparkling with spawning bugs. Them being anything but the rich pretty blonde boy standing in front of her with his pretty words and pretty eyes and--[break][break]

"The area is off-limits to civilians. Do you have any identification to enable you to be here?"[break][break]

Perhaps if either Remiel Calcifet or Sabine Calcifet had been there to reign him in, the blond might have noticed how off-kilter his words were. Perhaps he might have realized that his assumption was just that — an assumption at best, a lie at worst.

[break][break] As it is, however, the trailed off words of Razz Kingsman are deaf to the boy's ears as he braces a hand on the hilt of his Honedge. His smile is blithe, unaware of the mistake he has made, and almost obscenely confident, as if Stormy Silph had returned his words.

[break][break] There are few things that are known to stop Arthur Finnian Vanderbilt, and neither of the rangers' words seem like enough.

[break][break] "The guard at the entrance didn't seem to mind," he said, head tilted to the side. Though, the "guard" that Artie was mentioning was probably not a guard at all, but a conveniently placed Ranger cadet who was perhaps too easily swayed by gold coin. Not that any of it had mattered to Artie. He had followed the trail of lightning bugs to the particularly quiet area of the forest, and maybe it was because he had walked along the path with such confidence, no one had bothered to stop him. Or perhaps, he was just lucky.

[break][break] He crosses the space between he and the other two in a few strides. "Arthur Finnian Vanderbilt but call me Artie," he says, handing them a glossy Galarian ID. It shimmers with the royal emblem. A pause, and then his brow furrows in apology. "Oh dear, was I interrupting your date?"

[break][break] A shame. They were both pretty cute.

The younger ranger has to question to himself for a bit. His tired mind making recalling the details outside, don't let them ladybugs get eaten, difficult. While his pokemon seemed to be having fun with the loving bugs Razz was going to have to try and step up a bit. Not that he was in the full head space. "I guess putting Smalls as a guard was a bad idea," he comments when he hears that one of the people they had around wasn't doing their job. They were the only rookie of the group besides himself so it made sense. [break][break]

"I guess it's fine if you stay as long as you're not causing trouble, but in the end it would be up to the one in charge," he comments as he tilts his head toward Stormy as she was the elite Ranger between them. Honestly, if he wasn't as tired as he was he might have told the other to leave himself as keeping to protocol was how he did things normally. Though he was way to worn down to try, "Razz Kingsman," he introduces himself though at the question he is taken back a bit. [break][break]

Wait what.. "No.. No... No no no no... no," it was slow at first before a speed up as he didn't want others getting the wrong idea. She seemed alright, but Razz just didn't have an interest in people that way, "We're Rangers here making sure things don't go south."

Stormy glances back to the tired ranger briefly at his interjection and deduction. She exhales through her nose, a discreet signal of agreement. It seemed that they may have to let Smalls go after all. If he were so easily swayed by a man's pretty smile and false bravado, who was to say what else he might let slide.[break][break]

It was just fortunate that this particular situation wasn't dire. In fact, it was extremely simple, the blonde boy was merely interrupting a simple mating dance. More than likely, he was in danger of nothing more than being mistaken for a Ledian in heat.[break][break]

Even still, Stormy squints at him suspiciously even when he shows her his identification. That is, of course, because his name is incredibly familiar, though she can't place his face. She's never met him, and yet his name had rattled in her brain foggily. [break][break]

"Sure, just don't get too close to the wild Pokemon."[break][break]

Stormy relents, unwilling to pick a fight over a non-issue. [break][break]

The woman glances at Razz once again as the man introduces himself, and Stormy twitches her nose as if deciding whether or not she cared to do the same.[break][break]

Of course, that all goes sideways once Razz's stuttering display of denial is tossed into the air. Date? Was this man stupid? Vanderbilt.. Vanderbilt.. she'd have to keep him in mind for world's stupidest.[break][break]

"You really can't read a room, can you pal?"[break][break]

Exasperated, she rubs at the bridge of her nose before turning away. Not too far away, a fresh patrol of rangers approach. They were here to replace Stormy and Razz's shift, likely, but Stormy has no intention of heading back anytime soon. Instead, she waves them over and gestures to the unwelcome guest with her thumb.[break][break]

"Can you escort him home, please? We can handle another couple hours out here for when you come back. Thanks, guys."[break][break]

The rangers oblige, escorting the prince out of the forest.[break][break]

The younger ranger can’t help but chuckle nervously at his superiors words of the intruder not being able to read the room. Honestly he probably wasn’t doing much better at it. If he were less tired he may have tried to defend the other a bit more but for now. He hides a disappointed sigh when Stormy dismisses the other rangers that were to take their shift. Though probably was for the best as keeping awake was still his goal. [break][break]

As they left though Razz wasn’t entirely sure if he was seeing things from his lack of sleep as he swears he sees a shiny Ledian talking to a krabby almost as if bribing it. With that she takes into the skies as the Krabby seems to take control of the other pokemon around like they were some type of conductor. The Kricketune seemed to change their song, as the krabby then ordered for the Volbeat to shine their lights on her as if to make the shiny Ledian sparkle some more. [break][break]

“I don’t think all the lights she’s making is a good thing,” he comments almost sure the lights would draw only the attention of some males, but some prey as well.

Stormy's shoulders sink back down in relief and exhaustion. Despite how brave a front she puts on, it's clear that she's worn out just the same as Razz. In fact, she very well might be holding it together far worse than he was. The moment more than one set of eyes were upon her she straightened her back and spoke with authority- but in the quiet of just herself and her partner, she was different.[break][break]
