EXPOSITION

SOOTOPOLIS HAS EXPERIENCED the effects of residual PRIMAL ENERGY. Groudon's departure has created new mini-islands around Sootopolis; shards of the crystal that housed primal energy may be found in these new formations of rock, and their resonance is riling up nearby Pokemon. On the backdrop of Melody Miro's new appointment as Sootopolis' gym leader, the mythical city faces new challenges.

REPORT A

MAX # OF PARTICIPANTS:[break]3 ROCKETS, 3-4 LEAGUE.

A swarm of 6 PHIONE have been witnessed playing with an odd chunk of quarts. Intel believes that this is a shard of the mysterious rock Groudon had used to undergo PRIMAL REVERSION many months ago. Secure this quartz— and protect the Phione from any threats, for it appears that the energy is attracting all manner of forces.[break][break]

OBJECTIVES
At least 1 Pokemon must mega evolve.
At least 1 Pokemon must use a z-move.
At least 1 trainer must almost drown.
🌋 At least 1 trainer must die and be revived by kyle lopez's AVATAR power.
🌋 A LATIAS will come to angelo vestri's aid, attracted by his possession of a SOUL DEW or if it is not on his person, his recent contact with one. Latias can be controlled by ESUNA with any move from its learnset.
🌋 skyler dross will discover another fragment of the BLUE ORB— which the Phione have been playing with too.
🌋 Emma Wolfe has been asked to attempt to assassinate new Sootopolis Gym Leader, Melody Miro.
Rescue a civilian (player or npc) that gets caught in the crossfire.
1 Rocket must capture 1 Phione.
At least 1 Phione must die.
The League will secure the quartz by the end.

kyle sits upon the rails of Melody Miro's fancy yacht, presumably bought with her rich girl money for being an idol or something. since she's the sootopolis gym leader, having one wasn't a surprise.

the one responsible for driving it was captain skyler dross, who looked so out of place outside of the ships she's used to handling. angelo vestri as well, who's stuck on water instead of his usual modes of transportation.

nitpicking aside, he's at least thankful for this roster since it's a bunch of people he already knows personally. no more awkward introductions during the briefings, and more importantly, no people who'd probably blow him up in a fit of friendly fire.

"there," kyle speaks up, pointing at a direction ahead. "i think those are out targets."

the phione were finally spotted after wandering around the waters of sootopolis. they blend well with the waters of the ocean, which was the excuse kyle would use if someone else were to ask why they couldn't find them straight away.

"i suppose we just, uh, manhandle that quartz out of them if they won't give it nicely?"

he was trying to be as calm as possible about this entire thing. on one hand he was excited. it was a big rocket job to be getting to go out and have a chance at meeting another legendary. it was an entire other hand that he was here, with melody. damn it really fucking sucked that she had to end up getting suckered into being a gym leader. he actually liked his cousin. but how strong could she really be in the face of a squad of rocket members? maybe she would just roll over and let it happen. though he doubted that extremely.

so instead of waiting around for someone to sink this boat he shot a text to the other rockets on his roster. Emma Wolfe and @fay would get a cute picture of them approaching the place they were supposed to be meeting in this nightmare. that was fine though. he honestly had no clue where the other two rockets were or what they were doing. instead of really waiting around he traveled to the front of the boat with one of melody's league friends.

"you're gonna beat up a poor defenseless little phione?" he'd never even seen one of those little things before but that wasn't going to stop him from picking on this guy. "i'm sure if you ask nicely they'll probably just hand it over or whatever." but the rockets wouldn't be so nice about it really. not so nice about it at all.

glitch hitched a ride under the guise of helping melody with this endeavor

Melody was keeping an eye out on the rails too next to Kyle. She was also watching out for things to give Skyler a warning if the ship had to move suddenly. She sat on the railing as her Primarina swam near the boat with them, she trusted her Primarina to catch her in case she fell. Melody had her swimsuit on as it was a lovely day today! Melody turned around and waved her hand over to her cousin as she saw that he was taking a picture, she posed for it dramatically thinking it would just be a nice memorial photo. But little did she know it was going to be a bit more important than that. [break][break]

This yacht that melody managed to buy with the profits from her concerts was pretty swanky, that and league helped fund some of it too as of course they couldn't let melody drive just any shitty little boat while representing sootopolis and the league! But all of this was...was rather nerve wracking, melody had never driven a boat this large before but...thankfully skyler dross was there and took over for her...would she be alright? Well melody would sit with Kyle in case they need to dodge something. It was then that he spotted something in the water, as they got closer melody waved to skyler for her to stop the boat and then looked towards the water at the phione and freaked out. "oH MY GOD ThEY're So CUte" she said as she didn't even wait for anyone else to pitch ideas before diving straight in. Melody's primarina followed suit and as they approached the group of phiones, primarina singing a happy note to the phione. "Oh my godddd, glitch!! take another picture!!" she shouted from the water to see if glitch could help get a picture of her with the phione. Maybe being friends with them would let them release the quarts? Oh well it was worth a try!

kyle turns to glitch maverick when he wants clarification for his words. he's still not sure why Melody Miro would bring her cousin to official league business, though he supposed there's always room to make a judgement of the new gym leader without challenging her gym.

"yes," kyle responds in a straight tone. "wanna try to see if it works? actually, let's do it now."

clasping his hands over the railings for a good grip, he leans over the edge just so he can get closer to the phiones. he hasn't brought a megaphone to make his voice louder, but he can try his best. effort is the resource he rarely expends, and for this one experiment, he's going to do so.

his friends aboard the ship better be proud of him.

"hey phiones! can you please give us that thing you're playing with?"

the phione in the water take notice of him before immediately going back to playing with the shard. it's the objective of their trip, but kyle can't find the urgency to do it just yet if no one else shows it.

"damn, my charms aren't working." he turns back to glitch maverick again. "wanna try it next?"

She stood alone, observing the other passengers with an irritated look. Her hands tapped against the metal railing of the yacht. She was lost in thought, focused on the objective of excursion. It was rather fortunate that glitch maverick’s connection to Melody allowed her to be on board. Though she wasn’t sure if it was luck or if the league were complete fools. They didn’t seem to realize that team rocket was among them, and somehow they were being led straight to the objective of the mission, she wondered if it was a trap.

Ultimately Fay was convinced that the league were indeed fools. Her first impression of kyle lopez was that he was an absolute idiot, she scoffed at him as she watched him attempt to communicate with the phione through a megaphone. With someone like him as champion it made sense why the league was in shambles.

Fay figured that Melody Miro was just a ditz. That taking care of her would go rather smoothly. She has yet to make a judgement about skyler dross or angelo vestri, as she hasn’t observed them a lot lately, but in the end she figured they’d be the same.

“Bunch of idiots.” Fay spoke out loud snickering quietly to herself.

glitch giggled and eyed kyle lopez a little bit as he called out. he wasn't expecting the rocket to actually do it. and it was kind of a shame when the pretty but dumb ones were on the other side. he didn't even know that the person he was talking to was actually an enemy. a pity. if only he could get a cute guy like kyle to jump ship. not literally of course. taking a deep breath he put his hands around his mouth. "helllooooooooo phiones! hand over the rock please i want to look at it!" and of course take it back to rocket. but that wasn't really something that needed to be said out loud.

for the most part the phione ignored his please as well, perhaps one of them started dancing around a little bit more furiously like the little rock raver he was. but none of them seemed overly concerned about the fact that there was a boat full of humans asking for their little toy. were they dumb or something? "so how do you know Melody Miro?" if they were going to pretend to be buddies he might as well ask a question that a buddy might. or something like that. he was really awful at making friends if they were being honest. but he did pull out her phone again at her request, though this time taking a video of the phione to use later.

what nobody really knew was that his little freak of nature and wonder of the world porygon was doing the actual work. recording conversations as it floated around, analyzing data and wondering mentally if it could hack into anyone's phone for information. "i'm sure becoming best buddies with them will absolutely work! they totally won't attack you over that rock!" he was almost absolutely sure of it. but how much damage could a phione do anyways? even if there was like six of them.

Angelo could handle boats. The Sotally Tober, speedboats and even tiny motorboats that chug along on its last legs; standing on their varying qualities of wooden decking felt almost as natural as walking on land. Not just from growing up in a city that relied on them for day-to-day life but also from spending an increasing amount of time on one of the afore mentioned, too.[break][break]

Yachts, however, that was something new. If only because the courier had never really stepped aboard a mode of transport that reeked of money – intentionally flaunting on Melody Miro ’s part or not – quite like this before. [break][break]

That doesn’t stop the courier from moving across the deck with a nonchalant air as Kyle points out their targets, unperturbed; by both the hyperactive chatter and the riches his scuffed, dusty shoes trail upon. He's sure she has butlers or whatever to clean up after them.[break][break]

Standing near the champion, calloused hands grip onto the railings to lean quite far over the side to catch a sight of the pokemon, sea breeze in his brunette strands as he peers out into the open expanse of blue. Amongst the gentle waves the familiar shapes of the Phione playing innocently could be seen, enjoying their family games with a piece of priceless rock. [break][break]

“Ask nicely?” An eyebrow is raised, amusingly incredulous at the suggestion thrown out into the salt air by Melody's random, tag-along cousin (glitch maverick ). “They’re kids, right? If you want to get something from them without a tantrum, you’re going to have to bribe them.” Says the courier, an inkling of experience dripping off the tip of his tongue.[break][break]

When he turns back to kyle lopez , there's a mischievous glint in Angelo's eyes and a flash of teeth that seems to back up this notion; along with a suggestion there were many untold stories, somewhere. “Make them think they’re getting a better deal when they're not.” Angelo pauses, pushing himself from off the railing with his hands retreating into his empty pockets, turning to lean casually back against the sun warmed metal, instead. His gaze pointed skyward as the briny breeze pleasantly caresses his skin.[break][break]

“Got anything on you to trade, champ?” [break][break]

Because he certainly doesn’t.

They say that animals can sense natural disasters before they arrived. Something inside of them, whether it be the change in the wind direction, their animalistic instincts, biology, could warn them of the coming storms. [break][break]

But could they predict the unnatural? Could they sense the unrest in the woman on board the yacht, in the storm that was about to unfold?[break][break]

Emma Wolfe's assignment had been passed down to her weeks prior so that she had the means to case the situation and ensure probable success. She was a hunter, a killer, a professional. This kill would be clean - or as clean as could be expected given the uncertainty surrounding the situation. From a realistic standpoint, the woman was slightly out of her depth.[break][break]

She had nearly drowned once and had, ever since, avoided assignments with direct involvement with water. Unfortunately, given Hoenn's vast quantities of it, that avoidance was unavoidable for long. It was time to get her feet wet again.[break][break]

Bumping into skyler dross was intentional despite the feigned surprise she'd expressed upon being invited to join their excursion. Unlike the calm before the storm, the yacht is a jumble of excitement and banter. Anna comes bearing two sparkling margaritas, temporarily overlooking the young man leaning over the edge of the boat and the rest of the people aboard discussing means of taking the quartz out of the hands of the Phione.[break][break]

It wasn't the first time Captain Dross had been called to assist in League matters, and it likely wouldn't be the last. Much to her distaste, her slowly growing reputation as a reliable ship captain and navigator preceded her, especially after the war. It was, she thought, much like a stink she couldn't rid herself of.

At least the pay was somewhat good.

Silver eyes follow the line of the horizon, a familiar feeling of vertigo pulling at her like invisible strings, coaxing her hungry attention to the deceptively calm waters. For a brief moment a snout breaks through the surface of the waters, the Lapras breathing in air before diving into the depths again. Patroling ahead.

A white-knuckled grip tightens around the wheel of Melody Miro 's luxury yacht - which she'd bizarrely found herself captaining - at the sight of the approaching Phione. The enthusiasm that seems to infect other people aboard the yacht isn't reflected on her face; instead, the captain's thoughts inevitably shift to the second reason which had brought her to this excursion, resting snugly down her cleavage in mesmerizing shades of ocean blue.

Fortunately, Skyler's thoughts aren't allowed to linger.

"Oh, is that the plan?" A devious smile curls her lips, gaze deliberately settling on a pair of amber eyes, unflinching. "Can't say I disapprove."

The curve of her mouth grows sharper at the sight of the margaritas, though she doesn't take the second glass. Not yet. It wouldn't do to crash the yacht against the nearby rocks, would it? She'd rather get this mission over with without disaster ensuing. For once.

"What do you think?" A tilt of her chin motions to the small creatures flitting about the closest shoreline. "Worth the wait, Anna?"

"league work. that boring shit. you get forced to mingle with everyone sooner or later when you're at the scene."

he answers glitch maverick's question vaguely, too lazy to actually recall the details and technicalities of their initial meetings. mentioning her logic on catching a perp by running away from it would be rude after all. "she also performed during the vital spirit festival and helped with the chaos, so there's that too." he supposed he could say that.

kyle quickly whips his head to angelo vestri when he makes a valid point. "you're not wrong..." kyle trails off as he digs his hands in his pocket. a rotom phone flies off while he scavenges for any gifts he can give the phione.

eventually, he finds something.

"i got lint, some gum, and... a receipt from the coffee shop."

it reminds kyle that he may be affected by caffeine if he's interacting too much with everyone on board instead of settling in the corner like some introvert™ character. he offers the items to angelo vestri so he can try shouting at the phione instead of him by the laws of social conventions.

"you think those will work?"

he rolled his eyes as em- anna decided to pipe up. as if she wanted to do any of the work anyways. "no one likes a lush anna!" but he had more things on his mind than that really. like getting his hands on one of those little round gummy babies that were floating around. he didn't even really like baby pokemon but this one was special and different. so of course that meant he had to have it. that was the way the world worked wasn't it? "babies like candy don't they?" he asked offhand to kyle lopez as he was pulling out a pokeball. he always had some sweets in his bag and luckily it was water proof. he just had to get over there to them.

without hesitation he climbed up on the railing and pulled his over shirt off, luckily he didn't like this shirt anyways and tossed slushie's pokeball up into the air. releasing the freak abomination into the water as he jumped off of the side. climbing up on the back of the extremely cold pokemon he laughed. "who wants to use slushie as a jet ski? maybe the baby phiones will come play with us if we look like we're having fun?" it was a valid plan as anyone else's at this point on how to get the attention of the creatures. and it meant that he could do whatever the hell he wanted.

glitch is using slushie to try and lure the phiones to him with fun.

Unless they wanted one of the Phione to choke to death on a stick of gum, something told Angelo that none of kyle lopez ’s presented items were going to do the trick. It was probably best that they moved to another tactic to entice their target’s attention away from their pricesless toy. [break][break]

“Thanks,” he tells the champion, lips curled in a lopsided smile as he shakes his head. “But I don’t think I’m good enough to convince them that a piece of fluff is a valid trade for a shiny rock.” [break][break]

At least the other man had something to offer, all Angelo could feel when rummaging through his recently emptied pockets was grains of sand trapped in the corners; a stubborn reminder of his misadventure in the Regirock Ruins. No matter how many times it went through the wash, something told him they’d be stuck clinging to the fabric forever, along with the feverish dreams he sometimes carries into his sleep. “I’ll see how Melody's doing. Maybe she’s spotted something out there.” Angelo tells him, pushing himself away from the railing with an itch to keep himself busy tingling up his fingertips. [break][break]

Unlike some of the others on the roster, Angelo wasn't a League endorsed trainer nor a trusted sea captain, his assignment to the excursion one of mere happenstance than anything else. But even if he had become a reliable volunteer for missions governed by the Hoenn League over the past few months, the courier was fine with the lack of notoriety. So long as it meant he got a nice paycheque at the end of it, then he was comfortable keeping his simple reputation.[break][break]

That didn’t mean that the Alto Marian would be happy to coast on by under the efforts of the more publicly recognised, however. He had money to earn and he’d do so by pulling his weight. [break][break]

Walking up the side of the boat towards the bow, a faint, flirtatious smile pulls onto Angelo's lips as his sights snag on skyler dross at the helm. Gaze briefly lingering on her as he passes by, wordlessly appreciating. Just as much as his eyes crinkled at the corners in a show of silent teasing, amused at seeing the untamed sea captain assigned to stand behind the wheel of a vehicle so... pristine. [break][break]

He spares the woman (Emma Wolfe ) keeping her company a glance, too. Apparently they knew each other. Although he hadn't had much of a chance to talk to her, just yet. Later... [break][break]

“Hey, Melody.” He calls out to the Gym Leader when he becomes level with her out in the water, turning his gaze towards the young woman as she swims close to the school of Phione. She's still as carefree as she was back at the Tower Incident, he notes – in all sense of the word. [break][break]

As Melody Miro splashes around in the deep, Angelo leans forward with arms crossed against the railing, blue eyes carefully scanning the ocean for their prize amongst the group of young pokemon playing in the waves. “Can you see it? The quartz?”

In response to an unwelcome comment regarding her drinking habits, Emma lifts the lip of the glass to her own and purposefully sips. Her attention never strays from skyler dross's face, and she doesn't push when the captain declines. Instead, she simply holds onto it in her off-hand, slightly extended from her torso as if she might be offering it to anyone else nearby.[break][break]

Skyler motions to the bundle of Phione playing in the water, and Emma blinks, expression deliberately poised in a slow inhale. She breathes out with a tilt of her head, emitting a quiet, thoughtful hum to bubble up from her chest. Amber eyes narrow briefly on the blue Pokemon, and on the young woman(Melody Miro) currently swimming toward them.[break][break]

"A bit underwhelming."[break][break]

Her chuckle is breathless, an amused puff of air from her nose that is mirrored in the curve of her smile. Though she was making an attempt to be funny, that cold prickle of anticipation keeps her fingers still on the glass. The moment is fleeting, as is anything of importance when it came to a break in Emma's composure, and she quickly returns her focus to the woman in front of her.[break][break]

"I thought they'd be bigger."[break][break]

The splash of someone else jumping into the water draws her attention for a moment, and Emma makes her way to the railing alongside angelo vestri. Though she doesn't say anything to the man specifically, her eyes wash over him briefly before being carried out over the water. There was a chill outside of the one glitch maverick's Pokemon had summoned. [break][break]

It was too quiet all of a sudden. Emma's lips part, genuine concern creasing her forehead. She sucks in a breath, glancing back to Skyler, and then down to the two in the water. Frost clings to the edges of the Arctovish as a result of its cold body, and the Phione have all but grown quiet. One might assume that the fossil Pokemon had startled them, but that wouldn't be the case. Movement beneath the water is a result of something else.[break][break]

Uncertain of what to do about a premonition she was sure no one else felt, the woman lifts the glass to her lips again. The smell of alcohol helps sharpen her focus for a moment. Her inner clock could feel the time limit of their doom had just lost precious seconds.[break][break]

Something bigger was coming.[break][break]

Melody managed to overhear kyle and the group's reasoning. She let out a small sigh, ugh what buzzkills. She turned back to the phione's who seemed curious about the new stranger who approached the group. She managed to see the quartz in one of the phione's hands, it seemed adverse to actually handing it over at first. Melody turned back towards angelo vestri "Yeah I see it! I got a plan!" she called out with a wave, melody turned back to the phione's and spoke again. "Do you mind if me and my friends play too? this game seems like fun!" she said with a small smile as she was trying her best to win over the phione's. They seemed adverse to it at first but one of the phione's calls out to the others and they huddle together at first [break][break]

"Are they having like a meeting or something...?" she said curiously as she looked over to both angelo andglitch. She swam over to them to have their own meeting. "We can tire them out with playing, glitch's plan is sound. We have numbers on our side, so if we get too tired our Pokémon can take over and so forth. eventually they'll be tired and maybe hand it over." she said using her index finger to point out something in the air as she described the idea. She looked over at glitch and smiled "Oooo good idea mi amor! The Phione probably never met an artcovish so maybe they'll be curious and want to play too!?" as she expanded a bit further on glitch's lovely idea. However melody's true goal was to be able to befriend one of these phione's as she couldn't get over how fucking adorable they are. "So phiones? How about it cutiepies?" she said hoping they'd agree to the plan before they looked back at the group and cheered, they split up into a circle and demonstrated their game. They were playing catch! Melody wondered if they would chase after them if they just took it and ran...it's no surprised they'd assume it's like a ball as it was pretty round in shape..yet incomplete.. Melody swam to an empty spot in the circle and played along with their game. Her primarina moving to the center to serve the ball and act as the person who'd catch the ball if it went too far. A stray Phione however approached glitch maverick and his arctovish, interested in the strange creature.
