FINAL PROMPT

THESE ULTRA BEASTS are not to be taken lightly, evident in the way the battle unfolds. despite holding a numbers advantage, the rangers soon learn that one wrong move is all it takes to sustain grievous wounds. in the case of Pace Mahmoud, the poison seeps deep and burns hot. and that doesn’t even account for the damage that festers beyond what the eye can see.

but amidst great danger, there is no time to worry about superficial wounds. the very real possibility of dying on the spot forces them to draw out the battle. their efforts corner these ultra beasts against the discovery of this unexplained ground.

one, two, three.

naganadel and kartana end up striking the barrier as they pass through, resistant at first, as if forced through a gelatinous surface. a moment passes and they both make it through, as if nothing happened. then the barrier shimmers and each pokemon start to explode in flash of the barrier’s hues.

the pokemon start to grow in size. double, triple, more and more until they reach a gigantic size. those without intimate ties with galar’s highest governing body or weren’t present during the REGIROCK RUINS will find this phenomenon mesmerizing if not frighteningly alien.

these pocket monsters have become everything but.

as for boruta maher’s aerodactyl, it will not find the same blessing from the barrier. as it crashes through, it’s body start to expand as well. but the transformation is not whole and complete. parts of it expand too fast, too quickly as bone and flesh jut out from its stone like hide. the whole process is gruesome and reeks of raw flesh, subjecting them to the unwholesome sight of a pokemon turning itself inside out.

the aerodactyl’s body falls limp beyond the barrier’s reach. unfortunately, the ultra beast do not. they surface, exiting the barrier once more, as they turn their attention to the rangers that have infringed upon their duel.

OBJECTIVES

• engage as you see fit while naganadel and kartana battle!
• at least 2 rangers must be injured during the battle*.
• at least 4 pokemon must faint against the ULTRA BEASTS*.
• at least 1 pokemon must die while fighting the ULTRA BEASTS*.
• at least 1 trainer or pokemon must be POISONED*.
• at least 1 trainer or pokemon must suffer a cut like injury*.
• as an expert detective, have Elaine Highland recognize that the way the aerodactyl is laid out will cause its bones to match the other decayed corpses nearby. it’s safe for her to assume that the bones belongs to other pokemon who suffered the same fate.
• optional: each trainer may have ONE pokemon get pushed into the barrier. roll a dice in the post that this happens. if you roll 100, request a mod post, otherwise a pokemon dies, as described in the post above.
• optional: Pace Mahmoud may become more aggressive or show a slight change of personality due to the poison’s influence. feel free to carry this on after this thread!
• mention the ultra beasts deploying the DYNAMAX BARRIER. dispel both of them through combat!
• have at least 1 ultra beast use an applicable Z-MOVE.
• have naganadel and kartana retreat into the temple by the end of the thread.
• near the end of this thread, have DEREK HOFFMAN hear a familiar series of BEEPS echoing from within the temple.

INTRODUCING DYNAMAX

A QUICK REFERENCE SHEET

TO ASSIST WITH NEWER PLAYERS, here is a quick excerpt on DYNAMAXING and what that entails.

DYNAMAXING is phenomenon traditionally found in the GALAR region. unlike the games, DYNAMAXING is very rare and only used for ceremonial battles. very little is understood about how it works or what causes DYNAMAXING. the galarian government is very secretive over it.

DYNAMAXING has also been found on hoenn but remains undisclosed and undiscovered except for the characters that have encountered it. at this time, all of them have kept it a secret.

outlined below are the special abilities that come with DYNAMAXING.

DYNAMAX

pokemon exposed to DYNERGY transform in a process called DYNAMAX.

• this transformation lasts for the entirety of the thread.
• the pokemon drastically increases in size.
• the increase in size makes the pokemon stronger and more durable but it can no longer evade attacks.
• when the pokemon's health drops to half it will discharge an aura of DYNERGY that significantly reduces damage from the next FIVE UNIQUE ATTACKS.
• after the aura is destroyed, the pokemon may use any applicable Z-MOVE. this does not count as your ONE Z-MOVE PER THREAD limit.
• some pokemon may be unable to process DYNERGY. dynamax pokemon cannot mega evolve.

Things got far more complex than they initially had been. The two beasts were knocked into the ominous barrier and that was all it took for all Hell to break loose. Elaine had initially questioned whether it was such a good idea to ignore what Kaida had suggested rather than trying to use it to their advantage. If they had used multiple support and terrain attacks, they could have probably allowed the two of them to bring each other down and bring the tired victor down themselves.

But it was far too late for speculation and alternatives.

The scope of the fight had drastically shifted to titanic proportions and there was no chance that the damage would be anywhere close to contained if they let things continue. Moreover, their focus was now directed towards the group of rangers.

But that was hardly all. The scent of flesh and blood intensified as Elaine had focused on the gruesome sight of Aerodactyl’s bones jutting out of its body and as internal encroached entirely upon external in a display beyond what any modern artist would have tried to conceive.

It’s the same.

She didn’t have much time to say it out loud, but she could realize that it was exactly the same. Some of the corpses around may have been in decay, but the pattern of the corpses was all identical. By some misfortune, the other Pokemon who were now decaying and returning to the earth had come upon the same gory death while the two beasts had only grown more powerful.

“AVOID GETTING KNOCKED INTO THE BARRIER! CHANCES OF SURVIVAL ARE MINIMAL!”

Yes, if there were only two survivors and both of them were the type of entities to be denoted as ‘beast’, then there was imminent danger in any of their Pokemon falling in there was dangerous. Their resources were limited as is.

“Titania. Stay with me. Ginga! Rise further!”

The Mawile climbed back to her rested itself on her back before the Metagross quickly used Magnet Rise to push itself even further up.

“Now, Titania! Repeat. Ginga! Hold them down!”

Once again, a sweet scent wafted out, throwing the beasts’ attention to that minute distraction for just a second. But, this time, there would be more—a psychic wave that would attempt to hold the beasts down. It was a bit more effective on the poison one—enough to suppress them for a few short instants.

“DON’T LEAVE ME HANGING HERE!” She cried out.

But it was only a matter of time before they broke free. Before this likely would not work again.

"This is not shutting it down. This isn't it!" Kaida shrieked as the battlefield filled with smoke, attacks, blood scent...and then it somehow got worse. An Aerodyactl went flying into the barrier, and then it, it blew up for lack of a better word. Kaida's breath caught in her throat, threatening to immediately follow with the contents of her stomach if not for another, terribly prominent problem that was growing, quite literally, before her eyes.

"Goddamn...holy Arceus..." Unbidden, a terribly out of character curse left her mouth. What else was she supposed to say? Giant Ultra Beasts. It was like the contents of her nightmares were all becoming true lately. "Put me down, put me down now." She was already reaching for another Pokeball, mouthing a word, "Rattlesnake."

She loathed to use such a move in such close-quarters to teammates. A powerful sound attack would likely effect everyone present, but with the size of these Beasts, there was no way they'd avoid it, she was sure.

The signaling word spoken, her Ekans Ormr emerged already preparing the move, the woman kneeling to better allow the serpent a perch. "Make it louder." She ordered Svart, the other Rangers were doing their best to hold the Beasts down and press the attack. The least she could do was protect the survivors...she had already failed to protect their teams...

The tremors of Rattlesnake and Yamega's Bug Buzz screamed out, dulling her own hearing, and impacting hard. So hard, she blinked in surprise as some kind of barrier around the Beasts wavered and...broke? Perhaps their attacks were actually working!?

Her brief hope lasted only a second, as the insectoid dragon lurched its huge head at her, pulsing with the mysterious power. She didn't even notice the ground reek with poison until it erupted against her, and anything near her. A Z-move, tossed out so casually, flung her and her team away. Her Yamega thudded against the ground, already fainted...perhaps mercifully, she thought. Purple sunk into her skin as she clawed against it, poison...and an Ultra Beasts poison at that. Even her Ekans writhed, hissing furiously from the burns, even if he couldn't be poisoned in a conventional sense.

Her body was still moving though, survival instinct demanding she stay awake and as far away from any danger as possible. "Hurry...it's working." In a dose of irony, the Beasts new gigantic size might have eliminated some of their greatest advantages. Even a Beast went down from enough attacks, "They can't get out of the way, keep going!"

TLDR: Kaida is a part of the Ranger's group, and is freaking the heck out. She is reluctant to use such moves in close quarters, but has her Ekans released and uses her Z-move Rattlesnake at the two giant Ultra Beasts, also having Yamega use Bug Buzz. The Nagedenal has its barrier broken, but responds with Z-move Acid Downpour. Kaida's team is caught in the attack, including her. All are injured and burned by poison, and Yamega faints.

FINALE

THE CALL TO FOLLOW is understandable considering the circumstances. puddles of ACID DOWNPOUR still sizzle across the battlefield. the grass that once outlined the barrier has been dissolved, reduced to a decayed brown by the bleaching neurotoxin.

this threat must be neutralized.

however, DEREK HOFFMAN is correct. recognizing the cybernetic beeping is what steels his decision to give up the chase. and that reservation is what saves the party from being wiped out.

the electronic chirping crescendos into a high pitch before a gigantic HYPER BEAM erupts from within the temple. white light bleeds from every hall and doorway, blinding, as it wipes out stone, steel, and anything in its path.

thankfully, none of them are caught by it.

visible portions of the temple start to collapse. walls crumbles and the roof starts to cave in as the sound of a battle echoes from within its depths.

what happens inside is left to their imagination.

upon leaving the scene, it takes hours to find their way back into fortree. once they wander far enough, their electronic devices start working and their sense of direction returns.

should they attempt to locate the temple later, it proves impossible. no direction or backtracking finds the carnage the ultra beast laid claim to. evidence of their endeavor is swallowed by the forest, a secret among its endless canopy.

it’s as if trailing the ultra beast had been their compass. without them, they have no guide.

and so the DANGEROUS DISCOVERIES remain uncovered, waiting to be unearthed.
