Locke watched the Seed Flare land, half-expecting it to burst into a portal like before-before remembering that had only been under special circumstances. It burst next to the Gracedias, protected only by Doro-Doro shielding the flowers with her body from the outer edge of the explosion.

Though it only grazed her, the Mudsale still reeled back from the blow-close enough to stepping on the blooms that her trainer was forced to hastily return her. "Even in this form they're pretty tough, huh?" Shaymin's power hadn't been much compared to the other Legendaries in the other world, but against normal everyday Pokémon…

"W-Well, let's do our best!"

De-De cheered and hopped forward, only to be intercepted by another flash of red and white. Latias hovered between the Delibird and the Shaymin, looking at Locke with an eager expression.

"Huh? You wanna fight? Is that really okay?" They looked over to Angelo, only turning back to the Eon Pokémon after getting their friend's consent. She flipped around to face the Shaymin alongside Locke, ready to begin a test of her own for the courier. "Alright Latias! Use-um…"

The dragon peeked back at them expectantly.

"…I don't actually know what moves you have."

Amusement brushed against the back of their mind as Latias returned her attention to the hedgehog. She raised her head for them to see-as if telling them to watch carefully. Light began to gather at her mouth, swirling into a rushing sphere of Mist that she launched in the Shaymin's direction.

Fireworks pop and fizzle, SEED FLARES illuminating the floating island with Shaymin's beautiful war cry.

When Locke Jamison turns to look at him, they'd find Angelo looking back with a small smile, alight with embers of bittersweet amusement. His shoulders rise and fall in a shrug.

“Don't look at me,” he chuckles. “It's her call.”

The postman didn't need to look to him for consent. Latias had always followed her own path, as carefree and warm as the spring breeze. That same freedom had brought her to him, had seen them stand together, side by side, through trials and tribulations and sweet days alike.

Now, the wind stirs once more...

While the Eon sister takes to floating before Locke, ready for battle, her brother rises. Fresh scents wash over Angelo as the dragon sails by, brunette hair tickling his skin from the kicked up current.

“Can't get upstaged by a younger sibling, huh?” His lips split into a grin as Latios floats in front of him, the pair of them coming to stand beside Locke and Latias. “I got you.”

PSYCHIC makes for a far more precise counter, as dragons and plant spirits begin their dance over a stage of delicate flowers.

The attack connected, blasting the Shaymin into the air where it suddenly stopped, trapped mid-air by some Psychic aura conjured by Latios. Surprised, Locke turned to Angelo again in excitement. "I didn't know they could do that! Are they both psychic-types?" He called back to his own partner, "Latias! Is that misty thing a psychic move? Can you do it again?"

Latias preened under the postman's attention, chirping back with a smug look. Another Mist Ball formed in front of her, but a Seed Flare crashed into it before she could launch it, causing the sphere to explode in the dragon's face as she reeled back with a sour look.

"M-Maybe if they can't see you first?" they tentatively suggested to the pouting Legendary. Latias paused to consider it, then vanished from sight, the whipping wind of her departure the only sign of her having moved. Occasionally Locke could swear seeing a ripple of light skirting above the flowers, only for it to disappear in the blink of an eye.

At last Latias reappeared behind the Shaymin, invisibility fading as the refracting light was drawn upwards at her mouth before a final Mist Ball struck the pair of hedgehogs at close range.

GRATITUDE AMONG FLOWERS

DESPITE THE FEROCITY OF YOUR BATTLE, the Gracidea remain intact. The flowers swing gently in the aftermath's breeze like waving spectators. Before you, the two Shaymin brush off the debris of your contest with little shakes. Their own flowers remain vibrant and open— symbolic of their acceptance of the bonds shared between you and your Pokemon.

Behind you, the floral bridge begins to reform in the air. It spirals toward the earth like a spring wedding's garland, carrying with it the scent of fresh blooms. The petals seemingly face you, beckoning for you to return.

Similarly, the Shaymin await their capsules. Whether you decide to capture them here or on the ground is your choice.

THE LAND FORME SHAYMIN are now able to be caught with one of your pokeballs. you may decide their moveset like a gachapon pokemon (e.g. 6 learnset moves) and add them to your PCs.

These Shaymin can not shift into its Sky Forme, unless it comes into contact with the move, SPRINGTIDE STORM.

There's a smile blooming on Angelo's face in spite of the sadness sitting like a seed in the base of his chest, the pilot leaning towards Locke Jamison with a hand cupped close to his mouth. “Mist Ball. It's called Mist Ball,” comes the hint on a purposefully loud hiss.

And despite Angelo's earlier spark of competitive banter, in the end, both he and Latios end up drifting into the background. Content to watch as the postman and Latias clumsily take to battling together, side by side.

Despite the small smile, he's thankful for the warm presence against his side. Latios a comfort as they silently stand with one another, watching as the seasons of life change.

“Hey, sprout. Don't tell me your all bluster.”

Shaymin, the one that had been unceremoniously thrown by Latios's Psychic, waddles over to join the spectators. It parks its grassy butt on Angelo's boot, trapping him from moving even when another Mist Ball flies close...

When Locke and Latias emerge victorious, Angelo sticks a thumb and index finger into his mouth and whistles.

“You two made that look easy! Now you're just showing us up.”

Latios flies over to his sister as the flowers of victory begin to bloom around them and stretch back down to earth again, butting his head lightly against hers.

“And there's our hint to take off,” he says, near wistfully. Angelo sweeps a gaze around the floating island one more time, absorbing its beauty and serenity for a few more greedy seconds.

If there were more of them in Hoenn, he decides, he'd find them.

The little hedgehog at his feet puts its front paws on his legs and he's helpless to oblige. Somehow, he feels like he's been chosen, rather than the other way around.

“Think De-De left us with enough picnic food to spare for two more?” He asks as he bends down to scoop up the Shaymin into his arms.

Mist Ball…they filed the move away for later; for some reason, this battle with Latias didn't feel like a one-time thing.

The dragon, for her part, celebrated their victory with a few dizzying laps around the postman, before rushing to rejoin her brother with an overeager bump as Angelo cheered them on.

They turned to reply, but something tugged at their shoelaces. The Shaymin had recovered enough to make her way right next to their leg, and was now staring up at them expectantly.

Seeing the other one settled on his friend's lap, it was obvious what she was asking.

Grief clenched tight around his heart again, but the courier bent down to meet the little hedgehog. He reached into a side pocket on his satchel and pulled out its sole item; a bright red bandana with the Delibird Delivery logo printed in white on one corner, which he reverently looped around the mildly-confused Shaymin's neck.

"Hey there partner…"

He tucked his new friend in the crook of his elbow-his other busy wiping stray tears from their corner of their eyes as he gathered up his other Pokémon. The bridge didn't seem to want to hurry them along as much this time, and he could use a nice walk right about now.

"If not, we'll make her empty her tail and share whatever she's hid away." Locke was joking, of course, but the Delibird seemed to clutch her tail much more closely on the way down.

Angelo greets the tearful moment with silence. It's a moment, he feels, that didn't belong to him. Even if a part of him felt the urge to drape an arm around the back of Locke Jamison's shoulders in reassurance.

Instead, Angelo busies himself with zipping up his leather jacket after Shaymin squirms itself into the warm depths, leaving enough space for its head to poke out.

By this point they're walking down the flower bridge together, feet kicking up petals and clouds wisping past their heads. Enough time passed for Angelo to feel comfortable giving a pointed smile towards the postman's Shaymin.

“Nice bandana. Suits it.”

Up in front, Latios and Latias fly, bumping their heads playfully against one another after the successful battle. Angelo catches the little red Eon pokemon peeking back their way. He didn't need to feel her emotions still, to see the innocent joy radiating off her...

“Latias seems to really like you.” He starts.

And his chest aches.

Locke fondly looked down at the bandana, the corner of which was being intensely nibbled at by the Shaymin in his arms.

"I got it from a friend," he replied, gently tugging the cloth from the hedgehog's mouth. A real chewer this one, he'd have to keep an eye on her.

They wanted to finish the conversation they'd started at the hospital about it, but it seemed like their friend had other things on his mind. Locke followed Angelo's gaze forward to the Eon Duo, giving Latias a small wave when she glanced back at them.

"Ya think so? I kinda figured she was this friendly with everybody."

“Well, she and Sky are close. But that's kind of a given.”

They'd had over a year to bond, after all. For Latias to wiggle her way into the heart of their little family with her affections and antics, joining them when she wishes on their adventures. With her loyalty, proven when they'd been thrown into strife and plunged into some of their darkest moments.

But it's not like she seeks skyler dross out on her own.

She only does that with Locke Jamison.

“Honestly, she comes and goes when she wants - never felt right to keep her in a pokéball - but can't say I've run into her hanging out with other people,” comes a soft chuckle, the pilot raising a hand to shield his eyes as he watches the Eon duo soar together in front of a sunbeam. “Unless she's getting fed by the neighbours that I don't know about.”

Angelo's good at putting on a smile, troublesome and carefree. He's doing it right now as he scratches the top of the Shaymin's head, carried like an infant in his zipped-up jacket.

“She has been showing up less, recently.”

I wonder why. He knows.

Locke gave a thoughtful hum as he stared off in the Eon Duo's direction. He'd seen a Latios in the other world, already dead beside his own chosen Locke. Had Latias and her Locke been there too-lost in the chaos?

He looked down at the Shaymin in his arms, searching for the connection they'd once briefly shared, but the hedgehog only blinked up at him sleepily.

She wasn't the one.

But then, their pact had really only been born out of desperation-a replacement for the Locke she'd already lost. With Latias, it felt more like a seed, one that need to be carefully planted and tended to over time before it could bloom properly.

It's not much of a surprise to hear the confirmation that Latias had been paying Locke visits on the sly.

In fact, it's sort of a relief.

That when he took to the skies and only one eon emerged from their invisible cowling, to greet him in their private sanctuary of cloudscape, she was with someone Angelo held in fondness. Trust.

It makes her slow detachment from his side bittersweet instead of sour with apprehension. Even if he and Latios held a bond that intertwined their souls, connected beyond the scope of time, he and the eon sister had been through a great many things together.

She was family.

“Do you mind?” He asks.

There was so much certainty in the answer that they wondered why Angelo had even needed to ask. In spite of her constant teasing and tendency towards mischief, their day was always a little brighter when she showed up. Even better when their mutual friend wasn't far behind.

Footsteps gradually slow, weighed down to a trudging pace on the flower bridge beneath his friend's scrutiny.

It reminded him of that old card game he and his siblings sometimes played... Did Locke just hit him with the reverse card?

Did he mind?

Angelo would be lying if he said he wasn't sad about the inevitable parting he'd promised to the Eon duo back when Latios had been revived - so he doesn't say it.

Not in so many words, anyway. He doesn't wear vulnerability comfortably.

“It's weird without her around as much. Quieter. Less of my stuff goes missing.” Angelo's gaze holds onto Locke's, honesty pooling from his lips, a soft chuckle plastering over the cracks to hide them. “But Latias is free to do as she wants.”

Free to befriend who she wants.

Angelo had always been staunch in his resolve to let her fly unbound. No pokéball of his would contain her.

“Just as long as the two of you aren't strangers, I'm good.”

He let the somber mood hang in the air for a few moments, watching the legendaries ahead of them.

"I guess it's up to Latias in the end, but…I'm not ready, I think."

The admission of their own weakness didn't taste as bitter as it usually did. There was a promise there-an unspoken yet that said they would be, one day.
