Wings For My Way - F-ZERO GX OFFICIAL SOUNDTRACK

EXPOSITION

THE POKEMON RACING FEDERATION is hosting a race near Mauville City, to determine whether Hoenn can support its own racing league. The initiative is headed by Mauville Gym Leader and is sponsored by 's SILPH CO. After months of evaluation, the Federation and League have approved funding for a pilot race in Josh's new hometown of Mauville City, using his RACING GROUNDS behind the Gym. Teams of racers and land-bound Pokémon of all skill levels are welcome to participate, with handsome prizes to be awarded to top finishers.[break][break]

THERE IS FUN TO BE HAD FOR ALL; today's capacity crowd is on the edge of their seats as teams of Pokémon and rider line up on the green, the MC announcing the teams for the 2022 Silph Cup's Gold Class championship race. The brave and talented teams will be tested on the Racing Grounds' MULTIPLEX course worthy to be the site of a race to crown the 2022 SILPH CUP CHAMPION. The race is being broadcast live on Hoenn's public sports television network, PSPN, with Platinum Class racers Ray Brooks and Jody Summers in the booth, calling the high-speed action as it happens.[break][break]

POKEMON RESTRICTIONS:

[attr="class","ynospace"]
  • Pokémon must be able to run across land while carrying their trainers. No swimming or flying! This is a land race only.
  • Legendary and Mythical Pokémon are not allowed.
  • There will be a case-by-case review, so please reach out to RAIKOURIDER on Discord if you have any questions about the sign-up process!

HELPFUL ADVICE

THE CHASE FOR THE SILPH CUP is intended to be a way for trainers to compete with their Pokémon in a way that has never been done before in Hoenn. It physically involves the trainer much more intensely than a simple Pokémon battle or a traditional Pokémon Contest.

IT IS RECOMMENDED, but not required, that your Pokémon has at least one move it could use to put on a BURST OF SPEED. These moves generally include PRIORITY moves, moves that raise SPEED stages, or are otherwise flavorfully fast moves, such as DOUBLE TEAM. These will be collectively referred to as "Boost moves". If you have any questions or suggestions about what is permitted, ask RAIKOURIDER on Discord.

THERE IS A SMALL CHANCE that racers could be ELIMINATED from the competition before the finish line. If your character is eliminated early, they will still be permitted to post from the sidelines, but are not required to do so to be considered as participated in the event. They will still receive participation rewards.[break][break]

DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS in general! If you have any questions at all, please ping RAIKOURIDER in #member-events in Discord, or drop me a DM! I plan on creating a thread within the #member-events channel closer to the time of the event.

SIGN-UPS

SIGN-UPS START on OCTOBER 1ST, MIDNIGHT CDT (not PDT), when September 30 becomes October 1, and applications will close on OCTOBER 11TH, 11:59 PM CDT. The first MOD POST will go up on OCTOBER 15TH, and each posting round is expected to be approximately 4 to 5 days long. Deadlines will be strict to keep the event moving.[break][break]

[attr="class","ynospace"]
  • You may sign up with only ONE character.
  • Sign-ups will be limited to the first 15 characters; any other sign-ups will go on a waitlist in the event of withdrawals prior to the date the IC thread goes up.
  • Each Pokémon will have 8 ranks to distribute into three different skills: Speed, Endurance, and Reaction. These will affect dice rolls in the race. This allocation is finalized once signups are closed. For more details, please see the POKEMON PERFORMANCE CONCEPTS section of the Silph Cup Guidelines in the next post.
[break][break]

Think you've got what it takes to hoist the trophy and claim the title of Fastest in Hoenn?

[attr="class","omgentop"]SILPH CUP GUIDELINES

[attr="class","omgenmid"]

MAUVILLE CITY
MEMBER-LED EVENT
STARTS MID-OCTOBER
ENDS TBD DECEMBER

OVERVIEW

THE CHASE FOR THE SILPH CUP will be heavily using DICE ROLLS to determine outcomes. Pokémon types will have no bearing on the outcome of the race.[break][break]

Under no circumstances are WORK-IN-PROGRESS posts to be posted. Editing a post based on the outcome of a roll is CHEATING and will get your character immediately DISQUALIFIED. You should only make your post once you have finished editing it and are sure it has no mistakes in it.[break][break]

AS A DISCLAIMER: There is a lot of math behind the racing system. If you are overwhelmed by math, you do not need to worry! All math will be handled by the Moderator.

The guidelines have been designed so that players can make informed decisions and understand how the race will be moderated FAIRLY AND CONSISTENTLY. Additionally, balancing is still a work-in-progress and there may be imperfections. Data used from this race will be used to make tweaks for future races, if there is interest. [break][break]

If you want to see the racing system in action, check out any of 's NON-TRADITIONAL gym challenges! They use a very similar version of this system, optimized for two racers.

SILPH CUP RULES

PLEASE HEED the following rules below:[break][break]

[attr="class","ynospace"]
  • While Pokémon moves can be used in creative ways mid-race, attacking or otherwise sabotaging other racers is PROHIBITED.
  • Salac Berries are PROHIBITED in this event.
  • Teleportation and portals are PROHIBITED in all races.
  • Pokémon that leave the course’s bounds (burrowing underneath the course, landing out of bounds after a jump, etc.) will be disqualified.
  • Mega Evolution is allowed, but your Pokémon must start the race Mega Evolved, and the Mega Evolution will last for the entire race.
  • Moves such as Quick Attack, Agility, Double Team, etc. that raise Speed, Evasion, or otherwise could reasonably be flavored as subjecting the user to a burst of speed are fair game, EXCEPT DURING THE FIRST LAP. These will be collectively referred to as "Boost moves".
  • Players who miss a posting round will have their rolls for the round made by the Moderator, with no Boost being used. Players who miss a second posting round will receive a roll of 2 for that round. Players who miss a third posting round will be disqualified without prize.
[break][break]

If you have any questions or suggestions for Boost moves I may have missed, send RAIKOURIDER a message on Discord! [break][break]

POKEMON PERFORMANCE CONCEPTS

Pokémon will be ranked in these three skills. Each Pokémon will have a total of 8 ranks to distribute into them, with no more than 5 ranks in any one skill. The player determines this distribution at sign-up, and can be changed at any time prior to the sign-up deadline. Once the sign-up deadline has passed, these distributions will be locked in.[break][break]

[attr="class","ynospace"]
  • SPEED: This represents how fast a Pokémon can travel. Each rank of Speed adds 10 to all your rolls.
  • ENDURANCE: This represents how well a Pokémon can navigate difficult terrain, and affects how often a Pokémon can use its Boost during a race. Every two ranks of Endurance lets you use a Boost move an additional time per race. Each rank of Endurance reduces the Target Number of Endurance-based Obstacles by 10.
  • REACTION: This represents a Pokémon’s cornering ability. Each rank of Reaction reduces the Target Number of Reaction-based Obstacles by 10. Reaction is expected to be the most common type of Obstacle.
[break][break]

Each Pokémon will be ranked in the above three skills on a scale of E, D, C, B, A, and S, where E is the worst and S is the best. Each rank buys one letter grade.[break][break]

If you need help coming up with a build, just ask RAIKOURIDER on Discord!

Sample builds

Balanced - Speed B / Endurance C / Reaction B
A JACK OF ALL TRADES, yet a master of none; Pokémon with this build should be highly adaptable to any Obstacle that could possibly be thrown their way. Nothing should catch this Pokémon by surprise.

Pure Speed - Speed A / Endurance A / Reaction E[break]
ADEPT AT STRAIGHT LINE SPRINTS, Pokémon with this build are extremely quick off the line and have the stamina to hold their position, but all it takes is one wicked turn to lose a lot of position in one fell swoop, or even risk elimination from the race. It is high risk, high reward.

Cornering Master - Speed D / Endurance C / Reaction S[break]
ADEPT AT SLICING THROUGH even the tightest of turns, Pokémon with this build can glide across even whiplash-inducing curves, slick terrain, and pass less nimble racers with graceful finesse. This build excels at passing Pokémon in corners that would require the competition to brake substantially.

SCORING

RACERS' POSITION WILL BE TRACKED using a Track Point system. For more details on how scoring relates to the race structure, see the section below.[break][break]

AT THE END OF EVERY OBSTACLE, the Obstacle's Target Number, including modifiers from Endurance or Reaction ranks, is subtracted from the player's roll, including modifiers from Speed ranks and any Special modifiers that apply from the Obstacle itself. The difference becomes the player's Track Points for that Obstacle. [break][break]

100 TRACK POINTS corresponds to roughly one second of time differential ICly. [break][break]

BOOSTING AND BOOST MOVES

List of common Boost moves (Not comprehensive):
[break]
Aerial Ace (aerial races only)[break]
Agility[break]
Aqua Jet (aquatic races only)[break]
Double Team[break]
Dragon Dance[break]
Extreme Speed[break]
Flame Charge[break]
Liquidation (aquatic races only)[break]
Quick Attack[break]
Tailwind
[break][break]

Each Pokémon will be able to use Boost moves two times, plus one additional time for every two ranks in Endurance. Ranks E-D can Boost twice in a race, ranks C-B can Boost three times, and ranks A-S can Boost four times. [break][break]

Using Boost moves is prohibited during the first lap of the race. Starting with the first Obstacle of the second lap, such moves will be permitted. [break][break]

Boosting during a Speed-based Obstacle will allow the player to roll with ADVANTAGE, making two sets of two rolls each and taking the higher set. [break][break]

Boosting during a Reaction or Endurance-based Obstacle will impose DISADVANTAGE, making two sets of two rolls and taking the lower set. If the Pokémon's lower roll passes the Obstacle, calculations for Track Points gained will use the higher roll instead.

EXAMPLE: If a Pokémon Quick Attacks across a field full of small sinkholes with a Target Number of 90 (Endurance), and their two sets of rolls are 108 and 162, the Pokémon would gain 72 Track Points, not 18.
[break][break]

RACE STRUCTURE

Each player will be required to ROLL TWICE at the end of every post. The sum is noted, then modified according to the Pokémon’s skills.

EXAMPLE: if a player rolls a 60 on a post involving running down a straightaway as fast as possible atop a Pokémon with S-ranked Speed, their effective roll will be 110.
[break]

At the start of the race, the Moderator will post the first course OBSTACLE: a prompt that presents a challenge for the racers to overcome. There will be one obstacle per posting round. Each obstacle will list the following information:[break][break]

- TARGET NUMBER: This is the number the racers need to roll at or above to overcome the obstacle without penalty. By default, a racer will lose 2 Track Points per point the Target Number is missed by. It is uncommon, but Obstacles can have multiple Target Numbers.

EXAMPLE: A player rolls a 60 on an Obstacle with a Target Number of 80. The player will lose 40 Track Points.

- INTENDED SKILL: This is the skill that will overcome the Obstacle (Speed, Endurance, or Reaction).[break][break]

- SPECIAL: Some Obstacles may favor certain kinds of Pokémon and/or carry penalties beyond loss of position. Any deviations from standard procedure while resolving Obstacles will be noted here. Conditions that risk a racer to be removed from the race completely will be marked in red.[break][break]

AFTER EACH OBSTACLE, a graphic showing teams' current position, time differential, and remaining Boosts will be shown. A sample of what this will look like is below:[break][break]

[break][break]

AFTER NINE OBSTACLES, players' total Track Points will determine finishing order. Ties will be broken by a roll-off on Discord.[break][break]

SAMPLE OBSTACLE

Player Prompt: The track starts out with a bang--a sharp, 135-degree left turn mere tens of meters from the starting line. The width of the turn itself makes recovering from a misjudged angle easier, but the track quickly narrows up again afterward. A guardrail on the outside keeps Pokémon from sliding off the course, but there is no such guardrail on the inside, and there’s a shallow stream that looks time-consuming for non-Water Pokémon to climb out of![break][break]

Target Number: 110 (Reaction)[break][break]

Special: If the roll misses the Target Number by more than 30, an additional 2 Track Points are deducted for each point in excess of 30 the Target Number was missed by. Water-type Pokémon are not subject to this additional Track Point loss.[break][break][break][break]

Sample Obstacle[break]Resolution

Example without Boost:

Josh Devlin and Saber the Manectric approach the sample Obstacle above. Saber has the following build:[break]
Speed: A[break]
Endurance: B[break]
Reaction: D[break][break]

His rolls for the post are 49 and 100, for a total of 149. His four ranks in Speed add 40 to that roll, making his total roll 189. His one rank in Reaction reduces the Target Number by 10, from 110 to 100.[break][break]

The new Target Number, 100, is subtracted from 189, meaning Josh and Saber will gain 89 Track Points on the Obstacle. Great racing, Josh!
[break][break]

Example with Boost:

Josh Devlin and Saber the Manectric approach the sample Obstacle above. Saber has the following build:[break]
Speed: A[break]
Endurance: B[break]
Reaction: D[break][break]

It is the start of the last lap, and Josh and Saber are running a close second. He feels it is worth the risk to overtake the Rapidash in front of him for the lead. He chooses to have Saber initiate a Quick Attack before the sharp curve. His two sets of rolls are (70, 27; total 97) and (7, 21; total 28). Because this is a Reaction-based Obstacle, the lower set, the 28, is applied. His four ranks in Speed add 40 to this roll, making his total roll 68. His one rank in Reaction reduces the Target Number by 10, from 110 to 100.[break][break]

Because the Target Number is greater than the total roll, Josh and Saber will lose twice the difference in Track Points. However, this Obstacle does have a Special section that applies! Because Josh and Saber missed the Target Number by 32, which is greater than 30, they are subject to not only the 64 Track Point loss for missing the Target Number by 32, but an additional 4 Track Point loss for missing the Target Number by 2 points in excess of 30. His desperate bid does not pay off, and he is at risk of losing a lot of position.

FORTREE CITY[break]
Ordeal[break]
Difficulty: ★★★★★☆[break]
COURSE RECORD: 05'36"690[break][break]

RACE DAY

THE SEASON OPENER WAS FINALLY HERE. Fortree's open-air Gym was filled with bleachers occupying thousands of racing fans eager for the race. There were a lot of big names present, including Mauville Gym Leader and Fortree Gym Leader , who were dark horses to win the race. 2022's Silph Cup champion, , was nowhere to be found. [break][break]

THIS SEASON, ALL EYES WERE ON Sonikku (), who was swamped with fans looking for autographs. She had put up a Time Trial that nearly broke the long-standing record on Fortree Gym's most challenging racing route, the ORDEAL, which was the route being taken for today's competition. The skies were cloudy, conditions windy but still within safety limits, giving added depth to navigating the aerial course as quickly as possible.[break][break]

PLATINUM CLASS RACERS RAY BROOKS AND JODY SUMMERS would be calling the action from the skybox, their words echoing from the speakers of televisions tuned to Hoenn's largest sports television network, PSPN. The race was also being broadcast on many ChuTube channels, such as the Pokémon League's official competition channels, Fortree Gym's channel, and 's personal channel. The race was being covered nationwide, with global viewership across all media outlets nearly one million.[break][break]

AS TIME COUNTED DOWN to the start of the race, the event's Master of Ceremonies took the microphone to welcome the gallery to Fortree Gym and introduce the event's sponsors. The long list included 's GMH and 's SILPH CO. Afterward, he explained the rules of the competition and called all fourteen teams onto the courtyard from which the starting line was located. Each team was dramatically introduced, with raucous applause and shrieking whistles following each. The racers were expected to line up in their positions on the starting grid after their names were called, determined by the results of the time trials. The racers were expected to stand next to and not astride their Pokémon after being called to the grid.[break][break]

"Qualifying in fourteenth place, from Verdanturf, Hoenn, Top Champion and his Braviary!"[break][break]

"Qualifying in thirteenth place, from Blackthorn, Johto, and Veta, his Dragonite!"[break][break]

"Qualifying in tenth place, from Saffron, Kanto, and Big Aqua, his Dragonite!"[break][break]

"Qualifying in ninth place, from Vermilion, Kanto, @elio and Leviathan, his Gyarados![break][break]

"Qualifying in seventh place, from Heahea, Alola, please welcome GMH executive and Lancer, his Beedrill!"[break][break]

"Qualifying in sixth place, from Lavaridge, Hoenn, give it up for and Akero, their Togekiss!"[break][break]

EXPOSITION

EARLY AUGUST 2023

THOUGH DISASTERS, NATURAL AND MAN-MADE, befall Hoenn with cyclical frequency and increasing intensity, it is easy to forget the dangers that exist within the landscape itself. Despite the passage of time and the advancement of modern technology, many corners of Hoenn remain as of yet unexplored and uncharted. These corners are among the most inhospitable places in the region, if not in the world, and have remained as of yet undisturbed for a reason.[break][break]

[break][break]

NORTH OF THE PEAKS of the Chimney Mountain Range, on a shimmering volcanic MIRAGE ISLAND, a storm of dangerous dragon-type Pokémon have made their home. At its peak is a plume of crystallized magma radiating a field of INFINITY ENERGY that allows even wild Pokémon to TERASTALLIZE. Many have sought to bring back TERA SHARDS from the magmatic vein as well as treasure left behind by an ancient Draconid clan, but the few who have returned alive have done so empty-handed.[break][break]

WHILE DRAGON POKEMON ARE A MAJOR THREAT, there are also highly aggressive fire-type, ground-type, and rock-type Pokémon that are more than capable of ending the lives of complacent adventurers. Perhaps the biggest threat of all, though, is the EXTREME HEAT. Those without SYGNA SUITS or other ways to keep cool may find themselves overwhelmed by heat-related illness with too much exposure. It would be folly to assume Water-type Pokémon would be reliable within, particularly toward the mountain's highest turret.[break][break]

The MIRAGE ISLAND's proximity to a cruise ship with many VIPs on board has raised the stakes of the expedition substantially. Security and volunteer trainers have thus far been able to repel the dragons from the ship, but the sheer numbers of the dangerous Pokémon, as well as their ability to TERASTALLIZE on their own, are making it difficult, if not impossible, for them to hold the line.[break][break]

THE DENSITY OF THE DRAGONSTORM makes approach by air impossible without drawing their ire. Flying headlong into such a strong defense would surely be a death sentence. The cruise ship has reached out to Rangers, Officers, and other League officials throughout Hoenn in a distress call to get to the bottom of the MIRAGE ISLAND's appearance and quell the source of the dragon attacks. Those with loved ones aboard the vessel may have a vested interest in saving the many lives there, as well.[break][break]

THERE IS ONE CERTAINTY: if nothing is done about the gathering dragonstorm, casualties aboard the ship would be immense. The expedition has quickly escalated into an indirect rescue. Those who answered the cruise ship's distress signal would find the lives of its passengers on their shoulders...[break][break]

OOC EXPLANATION

THIS IS A HYBRID RAID/PROMPT EVENT. For the early rounds, characters will post every round in response to prompts provided within MODERATOR POSTS. As there is a great deal of uncertainty in the happenings of this event, characters may be required to use the ROLL command as prompted by moderator posts. The prompts will be focused heavily on exploration, puzzle-solving, and combat.[break][break]

Note that this is NOT a League-exclusive raid event. Rockets may participate, but it is recommended they use League or civilian personas to do so.[break][break]

INJURIES & DEATH:[break]
This will by default be an INJURY-ENABLED RAID EVENT, with a DEATH-ENABLED RAID EVENT being on an opt-in basis. Consent must be unanimous. Rewards will NOT be influenced one way or another by whether a raid thread is death-enabled or not.[break][break]

Though the scenario allows for it, death is unlikely within. However, the IC dangers of this event are great. During a round where there is a possibility for death or serious injury, players will be warned ahead of time. If you wish to have one of your Pokémon suffer death or serious injury, please feel free to collaborate with me, and I can work with you to make it happen!

PHASES

THERE ARE THREE PHASES to this event.[break][break]

PHASE ONE: Exposition - Traditional raid style
The first round will be in the style of a traditional raid. A moderator post will be provided for characters to react to. This phase is expected to be primarily exploration-based, with some combat. After the next moderator post, the raid will proceed to PHASE TWO.

PHASE TWO: Exploration - Wilds-style prompts
The meat of the raid will be in Wilds-style prompts. A moderator post will be provided, including a list of prompts to be included in characters' responses. These prompts can be cleared in any order. Some prompts may be required to be cleared by specific characters in order to count. Once all prompts are cleared, the raid will proceed to PHASE THREE.

PHASE THREE: Climax - Traditional raid style
The last few rounds will be in the style of a traditional raid. A moderator post will be provided for characters to react to. This phase is expected to be primarily combat-based, likely culminating in a "raid boss".

RULES

PLEASE HEED THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES. A more comprehensive list of rules will be published in each event thread. These rules are also subject to change.[break][break]

[attr="class","ynospace"]
  • You may sign up with only ONE character.
  • Your character may bring a total of SIX Pokémon. If you bring an Avatar-related legendary Pokémon, this counts as one of your six Pokémon.
  • Your character can have only ONE Pokémon out a time.
  • Your character's Pokémon can only use ONE move at a time.
  • Please provide a TL;DR and/or BOLD moves/abilities/items used with each post.
  • Salac Berries can NOT be used in this event. Instead, every player will receive two rerolls they can use for the entire event.
  • Characters that miss multiple rounds risk receiving reduced rewards and/or being kicked from the event.
  • I will not tolerate complaints about not being mentioned, tagged, acknowledged or feeling "useless" in a raid. Generally, I attempt to mention all characters and their actions in each post, but going into great detail regarding every character's actions may not be feasible.
  • Remember that although I am essentially the DUNGEON MASTER or GAME MASTER of this event, much of this event's enjoyment and storytelling lies upon the players' shoulders. Collaborate with what I provide in each moderator post and each other for the best result!
  • Rules specific to each event thread may be added in their respective individual event threads.

SIGN-UPS

OPEN FIRE

[break][break]

THE AIR ITSELF SEEMS TO COMBUST as the WILD MAGMORTAR and TURTONATOR's fire attacks fly toward the unwelcome humans and their Pokémon. After approaching in complete silence, a flurry of WATER SHURIKEN from 's GRENINJA sends one of the MAGMORTAR flying over the cliff it stands on and into a magma pool. Though glowing, molten rock splashes dangerously close to him from the impact, his SYGNA SUIT prevents him from being baked alive. 's ARON restricts movement of the other MAGMORTAR, one of the rocks becoming stuck inside its arm cannon. The enraged wild overloads the ballistic organ, launching the rock and an expanding LAVA PLUME toward 's SYLVEON, its LIGHT SCREEN shielding them from what would have been an otherwise devastating blow. It still hurt, but the fairy-type remained on its feet. [break][break]

ON THE GROUND, others work together to repel the horde of TURTONATOR. Crisscrossing DRAGON PULSES race in all directions, cutting through freshly solidified volcanic rock and causing magma to spout all around them. 's KECLEON raises a barrage of ANCIENT POWER in the nick of time, shielding himself, his synced partner, and from a vaporizing blow. The Champion's DACHSBUN charges among the TURTONATOR, TRAILBLAZING among them alongside 's CAMERUPT. The draconic shockwaves harmlessly ripple through the fairy-type's skin. While it is unable to completely avoid the SHELL TRAPS, setting one of them off, it only marks a GLANCING BLOW. The fire-type is not so lucky; though it is able to set off more of the SHELL TRAPS with little harm, two intersecting waves rock the volcano-back Pokémon, leaving it WINDED AND WOUNDED, BUT STILL STANDING.

THE EMERGENT IS JOINED BY , rubbing a finger against her QUAGSIRE's back. The venom afflicts her with MILD PARALYSIS. It would bestow upon her an increased ability to focus, but at great risk: once the poison wore off, she would experience unbearable pain from the sensation of her body feeling like it was on fire. A POISON JAB from the QUAGSIRE smacks one of the TURTONATOR right in the nose, causing it to crawl away. A second one is swept away by the potent ROCK SLIDE unleashed by 's IRON THORNS, its body reflecting the bright yellows and oranges of the hostile, ultra-heated environment. Though the Galarian's mouth burns with every breath, her strength holds out for the time being.[break][break]

THE LOREKEEPER'S TYRANTRUM lets out a prehistoric bellow to scare the fire-types away. One of them backs down and slides down the mountain on its shell, but the others hold their ground, loosing a second wave of DRAGON PULSES in the dragon-type's direction. Lacking the agility to dodge them, the waves strike 's precious steed in a brutal one-two punch, knocking him off his perch and sending him rolling precariously close to a magma pool. Thanks to 's quick thinking, the Ranger using their TOGEKISS to deploy SAFEGUARD, Jack is able to withstand the burning air long enough to get to his feet and away from the glowing goop. The fairy-type and the TYRANTUM work together to keep Jack safe in one last heroic act before the dinosaur FAINTS.[break][break]

ROUND 2A - DRAGON'S CLIMB

[break][break]

AS 's SHADOW CHARIZARD skewers the remaining TURTONATOR with SHADOW RAVE, the reckless, uncontrolled attack opens a fissure in the unstable black and red earth beneath the task force's feet. They spring away from the yawning maw threatening to swallow them and the rest of the attacking Pokémon. , , , , and barely escape the crumbling earth by fleeing up the mountain. [break][break]

THE REST ARE NOT SO LUCKY; any on the surface level who look down the gaping chasm see naught but darkness. Though the losses are great, if they want to save the multinationals and other VIPs aboard the cruise ship, they must continue making their way toward the Chalice at the volcano's peak.[break][break]

THE NEXT PHASE OF THE RAID WILL TAKE PLACE IN THE THREAD THE CICATRICE - DRAGON'S CLIMB.

ROUND 2B - CICATRICE DEPTHS

[break][break]

THE SIX REMAINING TRAINERS, , , , , , and @navy experience free-fall through total darkness for many terrifying seconds. As they feel the impact with a slope at the perfect angle to break their fall orange and red light fills the subterranean cave hidden beneath the MIRAGE ISLAND. Its source is a series of lavafalls that mirror the brutal heat on the outside. Those with SYGNA SUITS letting them easily survive the impact, the LIGHT SCREEN from 's SYLVEON leaving the others with only minor scrapes. 's CHARIZARD is the only casualty, slamming into a sharp rock protrusion in an effort to take flight in the darkness. It hits the cave floor with a hard thud and FAINTS.[break][break]

TRAPPED IN A SWELTERING VOLCANIC CAVE, this half of the task force must navigate a magma-filled environment filled with Pokémon that have likely never seen a human in their life. They must brave the hostile elements and aggressive denizens beneath the mountain in search of a means to escape.[break][break]

THE NEXT PHASE OF THE RAID WILL TAKE PLACE IN THE THREAD THE CICATRICE - CICATRICE DEPTHS.

Wings For My Way - F-ZERO GX OFFICIAL SOUNDTRACK

EXPOSITION

HOENN'S MOST POPULAR SPORT, Pokémon Racing, attracts hopeful competitors from around the globe. Testing the mettle of trainers with a need for speed year after year, the opening race for the 2024 season takes place in the current-ravaged waves between PACIFIDLOG TOWN and MAUVILLE CITY.[break][break]

COMPETITORS FROM AROUND THE WORLD look to qualify: swaths of geared-up Floatzel, Sharpedo, Palafin, and other speedy swimmers line up for their turn on the CONTORTING CURRENTS course. With a difficulty rating of four stars out of six, much of the course's challenge comes from fighting its swift, ever-changing currents. Pokémon and trainers that do not heed them when sweeping across the waves will find themselves tossed onto beaches, onto rock formations, and even out of bounds completely! The time trials are being broadcast live on Hoenn's public sports television network, PSPN, with Master Class racers Ray Brooks and Jody Summers in the booth, calling the high-speed action as it happens.[break][break]

POKEMON RESTRICTIONS:

[attr="class","ynospace"]
  • Pokémon must be able to swim while carrying their trainers. This is an aquatic race, and the course is designed to incorporate three-dimensional movement. Pokémon will be expected to maneuver both on the water's surface and underwater.
  • Legendary, Mythical, Ultra, and Paradox Pokémon are not allowed.

Pokémon that can MEGA EVOLVE, that can use a Z-MOVE with the flavor of an EXTREME BURST OF SPEED, or that can TERASTALLIZE into a type that shares a type with a Boost move they know, will have a slight advantage over those that cannot. Please bear this in mind when choosing your signup Pokémon.

SIGN-UPS

SIGN-UPS START on FEBRUARY 27, 2024, MIDNIGHT CST (not PST), when February 26 becomes February 27, and applications will close on MARCH 7th, 2024, 11:59 PM CST. The first MOD POST will go up on MARCH 11th, 2024. Each posting round will run from TUESDAY to SATURDAY of that week, with the mod post going up the following MONDAY. Deadlines will be strict to keep the event moving.[break][break]

[attr="class","ynospace"]
  • You may sign up with only ONE character.
  • Sign-ups will be limited to 25 characters; any other sign-ups will go on a waitlist in the event of withdrawals prior to the date the IC thread goes up.
  • A block of fifteen slots will be reserved for players who did NOT get to participate in the previous CHASE FOR THE SILPH CUP thread in March 2023. If these slots are not filled by MARCH 2, 2024, they will be opened up to general participation at that time.

[attr="class","omgentop"]SILPH CUP GUIDELINES

[attr="class","omgenmid"]

PACIFIDLOG TOWN
MEMBER-LED EVENT
STARTS MARCH 11
ENDS LATE MAY

Data used from this race will be used to make tweaks for future races, if there is interest.[break][break]

If you want to see the racing system in action, check out any of 's NON-TRADITIONAL gym challenges or the previous Silph Cup race! They use a very similar version of this system.

SUMMARY OF CHANGES

PLEASE HEED the following, even if you participated in the previous Silph Cup race, as several balance tweaks and new features have been added to improve player experience and integrate site systems into the event.
[attr="class","ynospace"]
  • Boosting mechanics will be changed slightly. Instead of making two sets of two rolls when using a Boost, you will now make four rolls, and the highest two or lowest two of those rolls will be applied as appropriate. This is intended to raise the impact Boosting has on the race.
  • Catch-up mechanics will be more prevalent than they were in previous races. Expect Obstacles' difficulty to be skewed higher for racers that are closer to the front of the field. This will allow for great comeback stories and keep the race exciting for as many participants as possible.
  • Mega Evolution and Terastallization are now ALLOWED during the first lap of the race. Z-Moves still are not permitted until the second lap.
  • MEGA EVOLUTION, Z-MOVES, and TERASTALLIZATION will now be permitted ONCE EACH, but your Pokémon may not be able to use them all, depending on Endurance investment. You MAY NOT overlap their use.
  • The final Obstacle of the race is guaranteed to be a Speed-based Obstacle with Target Number 0, and will be weighted more heavily than other Obstacles in the race to encourage dramatic finishes.

SILPH CUP RULES

PLEASE HEED the following rules below:
[attr="class","ynospace"]
  • While Pokémon moves can be used in creative ways mid-race, attacking or otherwise sabotaging other racers is PROHIBITED.
  • Salac Berries are PROHIBITED in this event.
  • Teleportation and portals are PROHIBITED in all races.
  • Pokémon that leave the course’s bounds (burrowing into the course's reefs, swimming or landing beyond the red and green buoys marking course bounds, etc.) will be disqualified.
  • Mega Evolution, Z-Moves, and Terastallization are ALLOWED to be used ONCE EACH during the race. You MAY NOT overlap their use.
  • Players who miss a posting round will have their rolls for the round made by the Moderator, with no Boost being used (if applicable). This roll will be completed in Discord in the #member-events channel. Players who miss a second posting round will receive a roll of 2 for that round. Players who miss a third posting round will be disqualified without prize.
If you have any questions or suggestions for Boost moves I may have missed, send RAIKOURIDER a message on Discord!

Once the sign-up deadline has passed, these distributions will be locked in.

[attr="class","ynospace"]
  • SPEED: This represents how fast a Pokémon can travel. Each rank of Speed adds 10 to all your rolls, and an additional 10 to your rolls on Speed-based Obstacles.
  • ENDURANCE: This represents how well a Pokémon can navigate difficult terrain, and affects how often a Pokémon can use its Boost during a race. A Pokémon can use its Boost a number of times equal to its Ranks in Endurance (minimum 1). Each rank of Endurance reduces the Target Number of Endurance-based Obstacles by 20. While Endurance-based Obstacles exist, they are typically rare.
  • REACTION: This represents a Pokémon’s cornering ability. Each rank of Reaction reduces the Target Number of Reaction-based Obstacles by 20.
[break][break]

Each Pokémon will be ranked in the above three skills on a scale of E, D, C, B, A, and S, where E is the worst and S is the best. Each rank buys one letter grade.[break][break]

If you need help coming up with a build, just ask RAIKOURIDER on Discord![break][break]

Sample Builds

Balanced - Speed B / Endurance C / Reaction B[break]

The difference becomes the player's Track Points for that Obstacle.[break][break]

100 TRACK POINTS corresponds to roughly one second of time differential ICly.

BOOSTING, BOOST MOVES, AND TRANSFORMATIONS

Each Pokémon will be able to use Boost moves a number of times equal to its number of ranks in Endurance (minimum 1). [break][break]

Using Boost moves is prohibited during the first lap of the race. Starting with the first Obstacle of the second lap, such moves will be permitted. Please note that MEGA EVOLUTION and TERASTALLIZATION are not considered Boost moves, and may be used on the first lap.[break][break]

Boosting during a Speed-based Obstacle will allow the player to roll with ADVANTAGE, making four rolls instead of two and applying the two highest rolls. [break][break]

Boosting during a Reaction or Endurance-based Obstacle will impose DISADVANTAGE, making four rolls instead of two and applying the two lowest rolls. If this roll still passes the Obstacle, calculations for Track Points gained will use the highest two rolls instead. [break][break]

EXAMPLE: If a Pokémon with D-grade Speed Quick Attacks across a field full of small sinkholes with a Target Number of 90 (Endurance), and their rolls are 38, 96, 57, and 74, the Pokémon would gain 100 Track Points: 96 + 74 = 170 (roll) + 20 (Speed) - 90 (Target Number) = 100.

At the cost of one use of Boost, a Pokémon can MEGA EVOLVE, or TERASTALLIZE into a Tera Type that shares a type with a Boost move they know (e.g. a Pokémon that Terastallizes into a Dragon-type and knows Dragon Dance can take advantage of this). This transformation will last for three Obstacles, and will grant the user three temporary Ranks in Speed, Endurance, and/or Reaction, divided as the user sees fit. This may cause total Ranks in a single stat to exceed 5, but not exceed 6. This may be used concurrently with a normal Boost, if the user has sufficient Boost uses available. Note that Mega Evolution and Terastallization do not count as Boost moves, and may be used during the first lap of the race.[break][break]

At the cost of two uses of Boost, a Pokémon that knows a Z-Move that can reasonably be used as an extreme burst of speed can use that Z-Move. The user will NOT roll for the current Obstacle, and instead will receive an automatic roll of 200, the maximum possible roll, for that Obstacle. A Z-Move may not be used on the first lap.[break][break]

You may perform Mega Evolution, a Z-Move, or Terastallization ONCE EACH during a race. You MAY NOT overlap their use with one another; you must wait for one to run out before using another.

RACE STRUCTURE

Each player will be required to ROLL TWICE at the end of every post. The sum is noted, then modified according to the Pokémon’s skills. [break][break]

EXAMPLE: if a player rolls a 60 on a post involving diving as fast as possible atop a Pokémon with S-ranked Speed, their effective roll will be 160.

Ties will be broken by a roll-off on Discord.

Target Number: 130 (Reaction)[break][break]

Special: If the roll misses the Target Number by more than 30, an additional 2 Track Points are deducted for each point in excess of 30 the Target Number was missed by. Water-type Pokémon are not subject to this additional Track Point loss.[break][break]

SAMPLE OBSTACLE RESOLUTION

Example without Boost: [break]

Josh Devlin and Saber the Manectric approach the sample Obstacle above. Saber has the following build:[break]
Speed: A[break]
Endurance: B[break]
Reaction: D[break][break]

His rolls for the post are 49 and 100, for a total of 149. His four ranks in Speed add 40 to that roll, making his total roll 189. His one rank in Reaction reduces the Target Number by 20, from 130 to 110.[break][break]

The new Target Number, 110, is subtracted from 189, meaning Josh and Saber will gain 79 Track Points on the Obstacle. Great racing, Josh!

Example with Boost:[break]
Josh Devlin and Saber the Manectric approach the sample Obstacle above. Saber has the following build:[break]
Speed: A[break]
Endurance: B[break]
Reaction: D[break][break]

It is the start of the last lap, and Josh and Saber are running a close second. He feels it is worth the risk to overtake the Rapidash in front of him for the lead. He chooses to have Saber initiate a Quick Attack before the sharp curve. His four rolls are (70, 27, 7, and 21). Because this is a Reaction-based Obstacle, the lowest rolls, the 7 and 21 (total 28), is applied. His four ranks in Speed add 40 to this roll, making his total roll 68. His one rank in Reaction reduces the Target Number by 10, from 130 to 110.[break][break]

Because the Target Number is greater than the total roll, Josh and Saber will lose twice the difference in Track Points. However, this Obstacle does have a Special section that applies! Because Josh and Saber missed the Target Number by 42, which is greater than 30, they are subject to not only the 84 Track Point loss for missing the Target Number by 42, but an additional 24 Track Point loss for missing the Target Number by 12 points in excess of 30. His desperate bid does not pay off, and he is at risk of losing a lot of position.
