This secret base isn't exactly an indoor space, like most others are. Instead, it is a hidden little grove found in a secluded portion of Route 123 - near the waterways around Mt. Pyre. Despite it being winter - transitioning into spring - the trees are the colors of autumn, leaves crunching beneath your feet. And just beyond the trees, the shapes of bushy-tailed creatures darting in and out of view can be seen - though they are too indistinct to be identified as any one pokemon. Those from Johto - especially Ecruteak - may find themselves feeling as though they're home again, if they close their eyes and listen to the distant chimes of bells...

- Guardian: Tsume the Zoroark -

Tsume is not the direct sort of guardian that will be in your face. Instead, he'll watch you from afar - and using his penchant for illusions, he will put them to full use in bamboozling you. If you are not careful, he'll send you wandering in circles through the winding paths of this secret base - not so much for his own amusement, but more just to see how clever and determined you are to get to the end. Unless you are particularly clever or keen-eyed though, you'll likely only spot him once you have obtained your flag - whereupon he'll give you a straight path back out.

- Decorations -
The base's visuals are a mix of genuine decor, as well as illusions painted by a certain zoroark and zorua duo. The trees that make up this grove are painted in oranges and yellows, crunchy autumn leaves scattered across a lightly-paved path that winds along. Hanging from the branches are a number of bells - and as the wind blows through the trees, the bells chime gently. The path splits or turns on an occasion - sometimes in ways that seemingly make no sense...

And yet - no matter what path you take, as you make your way past the obstacles the base has to offer - you will eventually find your destination. It will lead towards a clearing with a large stump in the center - upon which a little shrine, and a number of flags, are set. Some of Makoto's fox pokemon can be seen lingering around here as well, wearing little kimonos fitted to them.

- Traps/Obstacles -

If you stray from the path, either to try and cut your way through directly to the end or to investigate the shadowy shapes in the trees beyond, you're likely to run into Kuro, the Hisuian Zorua. Though it's unlikely to show itself, it will attempt to frighten people into going back onto the path - supplementing Tsume's illusions with its own, to turn the mysterious fox-like phantasms into monstrous looking shadows that'll chase you until you return to the road!

Yurei the Wyrdeer may be large and imposing - and being the first pokemon people see, they may be mistaken for the guardian. But as long as you behave, they'll be content to just watch you explore and act as a 'guide' through the base...

... That is, unless you bring food with you, or you've cooked recently. If Yurei smells any food-smells on you or your pokemon, they'll beeline to shove their face into your pockets and bags, in search of whatever the source is! On top of this, they're likely to use their burgeoning psychic capabilities to try and communicate their wants, by filling your brain with nothing but thoughts of food. Good luck keeping them at bay!

Route 123 was Josh's favorite place to train his Pokémon for going fast. It was a long, gently winding road that was one of the most rural in Hoenn. While Voja was a newcomer to Josh's Gym team, the black canid was quickly proving he could run with the rest of them. As they raced along the road, the sound of a CLEAR BELL tilted the Gym Leader's head toward a grove that looked like it was in a perpetual state of fall. Unable to resist the allure of curiosity, Josh tugged back on Voja's reins briefly to coax him into slowing down to a pace that would let him more easily investigate the oddity.

As Josh wandered the grove's meandering trails for what seemed like hours on end, he was able to at last perceive his own Mightyena's illusion-masked tracks; had be been wandering in circles the entire time? After several laps around the grove's "concourse", the dark-type smacked face-first into invisible PSYSHIELDs periodically, the distant, unseen Wyrdeer guiding him through the grove's confusing paths.

At the very end, the shrine Josh came upon reminded him of the one at the Tin Tower in Johto. Its presence inspired Josh to set Voja's reins down, folding his hands and closing his eyes in prayer:

"O Great One, hallowed bird of rainbow colors, thy will be done. Impart me with thine FORESIGHT, thine JUDGMENT, and thine INSIGHT to carry out thy will, and to deliver Hoenn from thine enemies. O Great One, impart thy faithful servant with the Blessing of Thunder, and make me a messenger of the new kingdom to come. A kingdom where your Blessed serve your Great Will for ever and ever. Amen."

After he opened his eyes and had his Mightyena stroll up to allow him to pluck one of the shrine's flags, a Zoroark revealed himself to the intrepid adventurer, who was keen to show him the metaphorical door in the most efficient manner possible.

This grove of autumn leaves was as beautiful as it was eerie. Lots of ghost stories started with a young adult wandering into a secluded woods much like this one, and being beckoned by a mysterious presence or a man without a face. The story usually ended with the phrase 'they were never seen or heard from again'.

Exploring the secret grove against her better judgement, Andrea recorded everything on her Rotom Phone. That way, if she got lost or murdered by a supernatural serial killer, the investigators would have some kind of lead to work with. Naturally, she would rather it not come to that.

The draconic cosplayer stopped in her tracks when she saw a woman standing across from her. It wasn't just any woman, though... It was herself, a second Andrea identical in every way. Without saying anything, the doppelganger turned on their heel and ran away, leading the real Andrea deeper into the woods, where she found a small shrine with many flags set around it. She took one.

Later, when Andrea watched the footage play back on her phone, it would be revealed that her doppelganger had actually been a Zoroark the whole time, its true vulpine form captured on digital film.

Passing north of the Seviper's Remains, Bass Boost, Shalin's Seismitoad, lazily carried her to the very northwest corner of the marshlands. The only real action the girl got was a brief but potent rumble from the amphibian's bumps that anchored her saddle. Was this what went through? It was pretty intense! Fun, but intense!

As the frog surfaced, transitioning to a leaping run, Shalin happened upon the entrance to an autumnal grove that seemed to defy time itself. Not wanting to deal with the maze, she commanded her Seismitoad to leap over sections of the grove where she could... only to be repelled by mighty ILLUSIONS of enormous, fox-like figures that seemed to lunge at Shalin and try to rip her out of the saddle!

Getting the point, she turned Bass Boost around and navigate the wilding road the long way. It was a good thing Shalin had thought to put a little extra cushion on the Seismitoad's gear for absorbing the impact of rapid leaps! Though she couldn't quite put her finger on what the small shrine was to, it looked very familiar. Very Johtonian. Not wanting to ponder it, she simply scooped up one of the shrine's flags before allowing Tsume to lead her out.
