With the worst of the acid gone thanks to Bee (BARNABY FINCH), Temp could breathe a little easier. Yumi Hasegawa was also quick to get the trap ready, which Temp hauled up. It was heavy, far more durable than the ones he had used back home on his dad's fishing boat, but the inner workings of it seemed to be the same. Guess simple solutions were the best even across dimensions.[break][break]

The opening that was pointed out, Temp nodded to Cillian Quinn once again. This time, though, he also tapped on a pokeball on his hip. His Glaceon appeared, dark and frigid, the air around him turning icy. The fox pokemon gave a narrow eyed look to Yumi Hasegawa, sticking up his nose at the woman. Vibes recognized vibes, after all, but he needed to let her know her place (ha).[break][break]

Temp placed the trap down and set it up, the opening in the top ready and waiting.[break][break]

The whole place rumbled. Something from the darkness squealed, making his freeze. After a long silence there was nothing; it was easy to forget that wild and dangerous pokemon also lived in this place.[break][break]

"Alright. Just gotta chum it. Whatever is enticed will go down this hole for the food, but it won't be able to push back out." Flexible and easy![break][break]

From his bag, Temp rustled around for a few moments. After a bit of searching, he pulled out a small foil wrapped bag. The contents were rancid; slimy fish guts and parts. They stank, even over the acid of the stomach lake nearby, but the rebreathers thankfully kept most of it out. He dumped it inside, bag and all, not wanting to put the slimy leftovers back in his bag.[break][break]

"Now we wait." He said, giving a small grunt as he stood back up and walked back over to his companions.

"How long until something takes the bait, I wonder?" Barnaby asked the group at large in a shallow tone, his nose wrinkling in disgust as Tempest Quinn pulled the chum from his bag.

He'd stepped farther away from the trap, not wanting to scare or deter any potential Ultra Beasts from entering. And then... waited. Uncomfortably. The humidity and the stench of the chamber were bordering on unbearable the more time passed. How long had it been? Ten minutes? Twenty? It felt like an eternity in this hellish place.

Suddenly, a loud CLAP! broke the silence around them - unmistakable as the spring-loaded door of the krabby trap snapping closed.

"Looks like we've got something!" Excited to see what sort of creature they'd snagged, Barnaby hurried forward, his CHARIZARD at his heel. He flashed his torch at the bars of the cage, revealing... a small POIPOLE within. Like, tiny. Newly hatched, maybe? Or perhaps just starving and desperate for food, hence getting caught so easily.

"Not the most impressive beast out there, huh?" He remarked, kicking the side of the cage lightly with the toe of his boot. The POIPOLE immediately hissed in fury, angling its stinger toward Barnaby. Well, at least it had spunk.

Soothing pulses of energy heal stinging wounds left by the acidic mist. Gavin lets out a breath of relief, and even Lugia hums in appreciation as her pockmarked wings scab and smooth over.[break][break]

Gavin recalls his Stakataka as the trap is set and baited, unblocking the entrance to the living cave they'd entered through.[break][break]

It's an uncomfortable wait, indeed. The heat and humidity are suffocating for a child of Circhester, even one who's lived in Hoenn for many years, and there's not exactly a comfortable space to sit down and relax. Putrid air rattles through the space on occasion, stirring up foul winds that wrinkle his nose.[break][break]

During their wait, the Nihilego persists in its attempts to coil its appendages around his arm. When it eventually succeeds, it tries to tug him in a direction, but its small size hinders the effort.[break][break]

"What?" Gavin gripes. "Let go."[break][break]

The trap springs shut, eventually, and Gavin chuckles at the captive Poipole.[break][break]

"Better than nothing, I suppose. What do you want?"[break][break]

He turns to snap at his Nihilego, whose gentle cries have turned frantic. It latches on with one of its tentacles, but there is none of the pain that Gavin expects. It tugs at him again, then lets go and drifts in the same direction — toward the duodenum, if the stomach theory were to be believed.[break][break]

From the entrance where they'd come in, several Ultra Beasts advance, drawn by the same scent as the Poipole. The Nihilego chirp angrily at their treacherous kin, and the small jellyfish shrinks behind an irate Lugia's tail.[break][break]

It had been trying to warn them.[break][break]

"We retreat," Gavin commands, as the sound of more Ultra Beasts in pursuit echo down the maybe-esophagus. "Grab that trap, Bee."[break][break]

As soon as the others started toward a hopeful exit, Gavin would pursue.

Yumi sighed loudly as they waited for the trap to spring, displeased with how the expedition had gone. She had expected mysterious and interesting encounters, certainly, but nothing as disgusting as a cavernous stomach full of digestive acid and disintegrated Ultra Beasts. She felt miserable, the humidity clinging to her skin, the pungent stench of rot settling into her clothes.[break][break]

She never felt more grateful than when the trap clanged shut. "Finally!"[break][break]

The tiny Poipole caught within it did not look worth the whole endeavor, but she wasn't about to complain in front of her superiors. Instead, she recalled Shinju into a Pokéball, ready to leave as soon as possible.[break][break]

The sound of Ultra Beasts entering the chamber was all the urging Yumi needed to dart after Gavin's Nihilego, who, unbeknownst to her, was leading them toward a decidedly more disgusting tract of the digestive system.[break][break]

But she'd find out soon enough.[break][break]

"Aw... It's cute!" Temp says of the snarling and very angry Poipole. Which would 100% rip his face off if it got to him. Then again, Temp also thought that Cillian Quinn was cute and Gavin would 100% rip someone's face off. Maybe he just had odd tastes.[break][break]

Temp actually doesn't wait for BARNABY FINCH to grab the trap. It was heavy and they were dealing with some shit right now! So Temp snatches it up instead, careful to hang onto the top where the teeth and claws and stinger of the small Ultra Beast wouldn't tear him to pieces.[break][break]

"Oi, Bee! You get the little darling!" Temp shuffled behind Yumi Hasegawa as they escaped, eyes down on the captive.

"Me?" Barnaby asked, slightly incredulous, as their group started to hoof it further toward the canus.

Taking up the rear, his eyes strayed onto the captured POIPOLE, which was struggling against the confines of the cage, desperate to impale the lot of them.

It's unbridled tenacity kind of reminded Barnaby of Tempest Quinn, honestly. For some reason, the time Temp punched the shit out of Father Winter came to mind. Hah. Maybe he'd name the little guy after him.

"Alright, fine. But if it kills me in my sleep or something that's on you." It really did have a murderous glint in it's beady eyes. He'd have to get with Cillian Quinn later and ask how to best train an Ultra Beast.

For now, they just needed to get the hell out of here.
