CONTRARY TO ITS NAME, THE MAJORITY OF THE ULTRA DEEP SEA IS A VAST CAVE-LIKE WORLD. Shafts of light from an unknown source barely penetrate the dark, causing colorful diamond-like rocks to glisten against humid walls. The dim lighting makes the place seem like you're thousands of leagues under the sea... Eerily, an unceasing pulse can be heard like a heart beat that rumbles throughout the realm.[break][break]

Oddly enough, one is able to "swim" through this realm like Water-type Pokemon floating in air.[break][break]

One may stumble upon deep, cold pools of dark water and alien seaweed as they scout out the realm. Segments of this place open up into an astral sea, where islands of mysterious stone are suspended mid-air.

He had not wished to return here so soon. His last venture into the Deep Sea had seen him confront his fear of drowning under a tide of sludgy black water. The one before that, he'd been poisoned by Nihilego, turning on his allies in a fit of fear-induced rage.[break][break]

This place seemed to escalate with each foray into its unknown depths. What horror awaits them now?[break][break]

But Gavin would never deny Team Rocket.[break][break]

Professionalism keeps him from reaching for Tempest Quinn's hand as they orient themselves among foreign surroundings, though he does keep a careful eye on his partner, knowing he enjoys caves about as much as Gavin enjoys the ocean.[break][break]

His gaze occasionally strays to BARNABY FINCH, as well; Gavin hasn't forgotten the effect the Deep Sea had on the admin's psyche.[break][break]

Hopefully Yumi Hasegawa wouldn't have to endure similar traumas.[break][break]

Around them, the steady thum-thud of a phantom heartbeat provides unsettling white noise. The air is warm and thick, stirred by an occasional breeze like a rattling breath through the windpipes of the realm.[break][break]

"Previously, we explored The Quaestor Lucis. Our aim on this expedition is to venture elsewhere." Like a stoic tour guide, Gavin addresses their group. "If any of you start to feel strange, notify me immediately. The Deep Sea plays tricks on the mind. We can always retreat to return at a later date."

Yumi gave Gavin a solemn nod. Her first voyage into Ultra Deep Sea meant she was unaware of its myriad dangers, though she'd spent the last night read what reports she'd managed to acquire. All the details had seemed to fantastical, including the descriptions of the landscape. Yet they were exactly as outlined in the documents.[break][break]

It fascinated her, this curious world. Between the distant yet all-encompassing heartbeat sound to the curious flora and fauna, Yumi could not tear her eyes away from it all.[break][break]

She'd read about the Queastor Lucis, too. A shipwreck. Were there others? What riches dwelled in their cavernous hulls? She imagined wealth beyond comprehension, whether it came in the form of alien technology, rare Pokémon, or valuable materials.[break][break]

If their group did encounter any such resources, Yumi resolved to request permission to take some back with them.[break][break]

"What sort of symptoms are common?" she asked, turning her mind back to the hallucinations Gavin mentioned. He, his husband, and Admin Bee had all traveled to Ultra Deep Sea before; only she was unfamiliar with the effects of the world on its visitors.

Cillian Quinn resists the urge to hold Temp's hand. One that looked close would be able to see the slight tremor of it as he held it at his side. Barely suppressed stress lined his shoulders.[break][break]

Yet a poker face rested on top as a light in his other hand scanned their surroundings. Temp would pause it from time to time on odd structures, muttering quietly to himself whenever he did. Hard focused to try and drive the fear of the rocks overhead out of mind.[break][break]

Absently, he answers Yumi Hasegawa before anyone else can. Temp had been here once before with Lulu Flint. What an adventure that had been.[break][break]

"Hallucinations are the big one. Paranoia." Temp sniffed, scrunching up his nose but furrowing his brow. "You smell that?" Shifting his light around again, it seemed like Temp was looking for something now.

How the hell had Cillian Quinn convinced him to set foot in this godforsaken place again?

After the sheer terror and trauma-inducing occurrences of their past trips, Barnaby had silently sworn to himself that he would never return to the Ultra Deep Sea. The hallucinations he'd suffered here still haunted him... though the physical remnants of that experience had long healed, the psychological impacts continued to fester.

And yet here he was.

"Temp pretty much covered it," Barnaby replied to Yumi Hasegawa's question, his gaze sweeping across the bizarre landscape as they walked. "Be careful if you encounter any egg clutches. The goo they're encased in releases a potent gas."

Although probably undetectable under his respirator, Barnaby's jaw clenched as he added, "That's what got me last time."

Up ahead, a large, gaping cavern started to come into view. Innocuous on the outside, but possibly a good spot to search for something of value. Not to mention the stench emanating from within was rather suspicious. "I bet this is what you were smelling."

Flashing his torch into the depths of the darkness, Barnaby's hand suddenly froze in place.

"Gavin," He called behind him, keeping the flashlight steady as he did so. "We've got flesh walls here."

It would be a familiar sight to the underboss and telling of things that might lie in wait deeper in the cavern.

"There are the Ultra Beasts, also," Gavin adds, sending out two of his own.[break][break]

The Stakataka, foreign to this place, immediately stacks itself into a protective cube as small as it could possibly go, two bricks peeking out like eyes from beneath. It looks rather like a strange, alien crab.[break][break]

Gavin ignores it, gesturing instead to the Nihilego. The jellyfish floats calmly at his side.[break][break]

"This is a Nihilego. The toxins it can produce cause feelings of intense excitement and, from my experience, rage." He leaves out the fact that he'd tried to kill Priam; he didn't want to alarm Yumi Hasegawa. "We've brought along the antidote, but it still bears mentioning. This one was raised from an egg," and thus seemed smaller than other, distant Nihilego they might see drifting through the Deep Sea, "and hasn't shown any signs of aggression."[break][break]

Yet hangs in the brief silence.[break][break]

Gavin's nose wrinkles as he nods in response to Tempest Quinn's question; he does smell the pungent scent of something wafting from within the caverns ahead. The respirator protects him from the worst of it.[break][break]

BARNABY FINCH is first to shine a light upon the fleshy, undulating walls of the cave.[break][break]

Not for the first time, Gavin thinks of how this place has always felt alive. Like it was digesting them slowly, one trip at a time.[break][break]

"Stay together."[break][break]

He takes a cautious lead, Nihilego drifting at his side. Stakataka arranges itself into a wall to block the way behind them, preventing unwanted intrusion.

Yumi listened to each man with a respectful seriousness. After all, Gavin and Bee held high positions of power within Team Rocket, and Tempest was the Underboss' husband. Arrogant as she was, she understood well the dynamics of power.[break][break]

And besides, the dangers of the Ultra Deep Sea seemed to set even these powerful and experienced men on edge. She would be a fool not to heed them.[break][break]

"I see," was all she said to the barrage of information.[break][break]

The pungent smell and the fleshy walls of the cavern they were exploring nearly made her gag. She clamped a hand over her nose, and her brow furrowed with obvious disgust.[break][break]

"Ugh, this place is so gross," Yumi complained, shrinking away from the walls. She followed Gavin and his Nihilego, her curiosity about the Ultra Beast warring with the knowledge that wild, aggressive ones prowled the realm.[break][break]

The group passed through a smaller side tunnel, only to emerge into an enormous chamber with a vast lake in its center. However, Yumi thought there was something strange about the color of the liquid. Instead of the dark or murky blue of water, it was a pale green-yellow.[break][break]

Yumi squinted, suspicious, before pointing into the lake. "Are those… bones?"[break][break]

Indeed, the half-digested flesh and bones of several large Ultra Beasts sat in the center of the lake, exuding the nasty odor that had only grown stronger as they'd approached.

Something to focus on helped. The mystery of the Flesh Walls, the smell, the strange surroundings. The murky liquid they found all but confirmed it. Yet Temp wanted to be sure. [break][break]

Pushing ahead to walk beside Cillian Quinn, Temp gave him a small nod before passing by him into the chamber. A silent I know you'll have my back passed between them.[break][break]

Temp did not approach the lake of bones but instead one of the walls. The dim light was hard to see, but he carefully picked his way around any puddles of liquid in case some had collected where they could walk. If he was right about what this was...[break][break]

Kneeling down, Temp took off his bag and took out some of various gadgets that Lulu Flint had suggested for this kind of trip. Thick gloves touched the fleshy wall, a thin mucous coming back on his hands. A small hum. This was followed by a knife, razor sharp and medical, being shoved into the wall.[break][break]

It bled.[break][break]

A Potion was sprayed over it to clear the bleeding, fast heal, and he shone his light into the wound. Turning, he shone back up where they had come from, trailing his light up the open cavern mouth. It had been a small slope, so...[break][break]

"We're in a stomach." Picking himself up, Temp walked back over to the group. "Whatever you do, don't touch that liquid. It's stomach acid." And powerful stuff, from the looks of it.[break][break]

Shining his light out over the lake of acid, Temp pointed in a vague direction.[break][break]

"If we keep walking that way we'll end up in it's ass. Not sure that's a good idea."

Somehow the Ultra Desert and it's giant ORTHWORMs sounded heavenly to Barnaby right about now. He'd take the heat of an immense desert over possibly drowning in a lake of stomach acid any day.

"The stomach of what, though?" What creature was this immeasurably large? Was there any way to even tell? Maybe if they traveled all the way through to the cave's anus, they'd find what was on the other side...

Thankfully cutting that train of thought short, a loud rumbling sound, akin to the gurgling of a human stomach amplified a hundred fold, filled the large space. Reflexively, Barnaby's hands clapped over his ears. With Cillian Quinn and Tempest Quinn taking the lead, the admin also shifted slightly closer to Yumi Hasegawa. He wasn't sure what this noise meant - and wasn't about to get separated from the group in the meantime.

Luckily enough, the reason for the grumbling became clear soon enough. From the acid lake rose massive bubbles bigger than the average car; they floated upward in dangerous numbers, some even traveling far enough to block their path forward.

"... Something tells me we probably don't want to pop those." Barnaby remarked dryly, already racking his brain for possible solutions to their new problem.

"We could try having a Flying-type blow them in another direction?" That didn't guarantee one or more of the bubbles wouldn't pop, though.

Gavin frowns as Tempest Quinn steps around him, though the look tossed over his husband's shoulder is enough to soothe his anxieties. He looks like himself, and not like the half-crazed husk that had attacked him at the Border.[break][break]

Temp's knowledge is confirmed with an approving nod, though Gavin notes subtle differences in the biology he'd expect to see in a place like this. It didn't look exactly like the stomach of any man or Pokémon he'd seen. An Ultra Beast, perhaps? Their biology was lesser understood, but he's not even certain something like Nihilego had a stomach.[break][break]

The jellyfish floats impassively at his side, revealing none of its secrets.[break][break]

He was, at least, certain of the stomach acid. The bones.[break][break]

The danger they were in.[break][break]

He turns to agree with BARNABY FINCH's deduction about the bubbles, but Lugia could hear the admin just as well.[break][break]

A mighty flap of the corrupt legend's wings is more than enough to send the majority of the bubbles crashing into the stomach lining, bursting harmlessly and splashing back into the pool of acid from whence they'd formed. But only the majority.[break][break]

Several bubbles burst from the increased PRESSURE.[break][break]

"Back!" Gavin calls sharply, ensuring the rest of them retreated before he took his own advice. Acidic mist fogs out across the stomach's expanse, forcing them back toward... had it been the esophagus where they'd entered? There hadn't been a mouth...

A stomach?![break][break]

Yumi wanted to vomit, but that would that completely ruin her superiors' image of her as a refined young lady. So she forced down the bile at the back of her throat and focused instead on the way Lugia, dark and sleek as an arrow, blew away the bubbles that impeded their path.[break][break]

But then some burst, threatening to rain down acid upon their group. Yumi hauled herself backward as far as she dared, then released her Hattrem from a Pokéball.[break][break]

"Did anyone get splashed? Shinju can heal," she offered, hoping to seem resourceful.

"Oh my god, it's farting."[break][break]

Temp doesn't want to image what hellacious stink is coming from whatever orifice that will come out of.[break][break]

But Lugia acts and it is only proximity to Cillian Quinn that keeps him safe. The Dark Legend spreading her wings over them to protect them from the worst of the 'rain'. There is still a fine mist, which makes the eyes water and his throat constrict even through the thick suit he has on.[break][break]

"Throw some healing on us just in case, Miss Hasegawa. We don't know what this shit could do to us." Nodding to Yumi Hasegawa, Temp tried to usher her and BARNABY FINCH closer. They would be sharing some body heat until this cleared up.[break][break]

"Anyone got something that can get rid of this? Bee?" Glancing between the admin and the woman, Temp tilted his head in question. None of the pokemon he had brought with him had to utility to deal with this kind of hazard so he was reluctant to call them out.[break][break]

"I think this could be a good place to set up that trap we brought." But the current conditions hindered that. "Something in the stomach acid is drawing in the Ultra Beasts like honey, so we might be able to snag something."

When he'd suggested a Flying-type Barnaby hadn't meant the literal gigantic beast that was LUGIA. He was thinking maybe something with a little more finesse? A little smaller? No? Just a huge gust of torrential wind that served to pop all of the bubbles instead? Cool, cool, cool.

At Cillian Quinn's call Barnaby immediately pulled in close, standing shoulder to shoulder with Tempest Quinn and Yumi Hasegawa. LUGIA's wings at least sheltered the group from the worst of the falling drops of acid, but a toxic mist still hung in the air. He could feel the particles stinging the corners of his eyes even through the respirator... and wasn't about to wait and see what prolonged exposure would do.

"Got it." He said, nodding at Tempest Quinn.

Lobbing a Luxury Ball just past LUGIA's sheltering wings, a dark-scaled CHARIZARD appeared from within. Without missing a beat, Barnaby then activated the Key Stone set in one of the many rings on his fingers - resulting in a brief sequence that ended with the mega evolution of his dragon, Lucien.

"Defog," Barnaby ordered. "Clear this mist."

As the CHARIZARD unfurled his own wings and went to work, Barnaby turned to Yumi Hasegawa and gratefully accepted healing from her HATTREM.

Within a few minutes the air around them had cleared considerably. It now appeared safe enough to continue their expedition.

"Good idea, Temp." Looking around, Barnaby saw a small alcove ahead that could accommodate the krabby trap. "Who brought the trap?"

Where her landing would ordinarily shake the earth beneath their feet, what the group currently stood upon was not earth — Lugia's talons sink into muscle, instead, the impact rippling through the fleshy surface of the tunnel.[break][break]

Her wings spread wide, protective, and PRESSURE increases as pain fuels the legend's anger.[break][break]

Whatever TOXIC qualities the acid might possess, however, have no effect on a beast so corrupt. As BARNABY FINCH's Charizard takes care of the mist, Lugia's wings fold behind her. Gavin's stomach turns at the sight of flesh corroded by acid; though Lugia is quick to speed her own RECOVERY, the underboss gives Yumi Hasegawa a silent nod. Her Hattrem's healing would be more than welcomed.[break][break]

Tempest Quinn's comment sees Gavin side-eying his own Ultra Beast, but the Nihilego seems disinterested in whatever thrall this alien stomach cavern might've held. Its tendrils reach out as if to curl around his arm, but he edges away.[break][break]

"I think Hasegawa had it."[break][break]

He glances at Yumi, questioning.
