Hearing him say that to her, those three words, made Summer's heart flutter again. She didn't know if she'd ever get over hearing him say that back to her.[break][break]

She smiled, pouring her glass again before reaching down to pet Guinevere on top of the head as she approached.[break][break]

Finally, Gunner was finished with dinner and presented it to her. Summer sat up straighter, pulling her utensils closer as she waited for him to get seated.[break][break]

And then she dug in, as he phrased it. Taking a bite of the meat, she tasted it for a moment before smiling. "It tastes great."

Delight filled Gunner at Summer's positive reaction to the food. He breathed a sigh of relief. "Oh, good. I'm not a great cook or anything, so I was really hoping I wouldn't overcook the lamb or anything dumb," he said with a laugh.[break][break]

Eating and chatting at his kitchen table, their relationship seemed so normal. He could easily pretend that she wasn't an ultra-rich CEO with a house staff, personal chef, and private beach. That he wasn't a secret government agent assigned to root out her company's dark secrets.[break][break]

In some alternate universe, they could just be partners with a simple but happy life.[break][break]

As they reached the end of their meal, so too did the vinyl reach the end of its song list. Gunner excused himself from the table to flip the record and start the music anew. The romantic crooning of slower, softer jazz filled the apartment.[break][break]

He extended his hand to Summer. "Dance with me?" he asked her, feeling silly and sheepish and helplessly in love.

As Summer stepped close to Gunner, he drew her to him, sliding a hand along her waist and pressing her lightly until their bodies touched. A private, intimate smile curled his lips as he gazed down at her with deep affection.[break][break]

Wordlessly, he began to lead her in a dance. The only sounds in the apartment for the next few minutes were the song and the slow shuffle of their feet on the carpet.[break][break]
