Kouji looked at island beneath him; his pokemon flew underneath him and kept him afloat; it wasn’t what he had expected, but the Roaring Moon he had acquired after his trials and tribulations was turning out to be a good addition to his team, flying in the air, and looking over the various islands in this place. ”There’s a hidden haunted house at the base of mt.pyre huh? I ain’t ever been to that mountain, is it as exciting as they say it is.” Kouji asked as he pulled up closer to Selene’s pokemon and herself, shouting in order to make himself heard.

WIth the rush of wind, the setting sun, and the feeling of oppressiveness that was coming from the mountain they were rapidly approaching, he hoped that it would not be too difficult.

IT IS SELENA'S TRUSTY NAGANADEL that carries her across Mt. Pyre in their first Lockbox mission. How Kouji Matsubara insists on having a conversation midair amuses her, but she is not above shouting for a little chitchat.

"Sunset is the best time to be in Mt. Pyre." Second best to sunrise, that is. Being a Lilycove resident for more than a year, Mt. Pyre has been a favorite local attraction of the ex-gym leader. There is something soothing and comforting in the silent sanctuary.

While his dragon scans the area from above, Selena's newly-partnered, midreavus-looking flutter mane scouts at the ground. Its ghost-typing makes it easily adapt in its surroundings: any sight of suspecting crowd easily taints its bluish mane transparent. When the ghost-type finally sees the haunted house in question, in easily teleports between Selena and Kouji, happily announcing its success.

"Looks like we've located it already."

Kouji couldn’t help but glance down, at the expanse beneath and the Flutter Mane…At least he thought that was what it was called, he couldn’t recall properly. ”These mysterious ones keep being useful, huh?” He said as he instructed the Roaring Moon to fall, the dragon looked over his shoulder at Kouji with an annoyed expression before he began to lower himself down.

They touched down, at the base of Mt.Pyre, the mountain was large; tall, and the “haunted” building stood there. ”How much you want to bet it’s an injured guy, or a bust?” He asked as he got off the dragon type who began to flap its large wings once more, and had returned to soaring into the sky.

The young rocket looked at the building, aged, broken down, and wrong in some ways, but it would work; the structure looked solid. He would have used it as a hideout if he were in his teenage days, and with rocket’s resources, this could be turned into a training base, or a storage base.

”Let’s try wrap this up before sunset, yeah?” His tone sounded a little excited, he wasn’t big on natural wonders, but this was his first time around this mountain.

Kouji Matsubara is correct when he says their newfound partners are extremely useful. While she admits there is much to observe and investigate with her flutter mane, seeing how it reminds her of her own Akhyls, the ghost-type is such a beautiful delight that proves to be a lot easier to tame.

Her partner's question comes as a humor to her; perhaps it is his intention, after all. "You wouldn't want to know what I'm thinking.

Like him, Selena observes the haunted chateau. While Kouji Matsubara is thrilled with hopeful eyes, Selena can't very much say the same. At least, upon considering all the factors, she has a different opinion about the place. "Let's explore a bit more."

The place, she thinks, is very much exposed to public considering the volume of people going to Mt. Pyre cemetery. Especially with the mysteries surrounding the gateway to the Border, in which Selena experienced for herself, they need to do something with the foot traffic before fully commiting to this place.

Kouji’s smirk was there as he looked over the house, stroking his beardless chin, he looked over it, and wondered just what they would have to do with it. ”I’ll try check out the insides. You look over the outside. If I don’t come out in…20 minutes, assume I’m dead.” He said as he did exactly just that.

Forcing open the door had taken a particularly harsh shoulder charge that allowed him to crater through the door. Force was his way of doing things, and so he didn’t do his best to hide his presence, he looked around the dusty, murky, insides.

”Nothing special; dusty.” He said just moments before a streak of light passed between the dead light bulbs, it was more like a thunderbolt than anything else. ”Huh?”

And so he followed it.

Her face slowly finds itself at the palm of her hands: if this not deja vu, thanks to Hoenn's recurring spacetime distortions, then this is definitely something so typically Kouji Matsubara.

"Akhlys, stay put." She orders her dragon as she follows her mission partner with flutter mane. But when she enters the room, the man is already gone.

The room is too dark to even see anything except for the faint light of the bulb at the foyer. Then it flickers, its sound catching the Kalosian's attention before it zooms towards an opposite room. Selena and the flutter mane follow suit.

Only to realize that the lights has brought her to another part of the house, somewhere far from Kouji Matsubara.

Kouji had found himself wandering, his eyes following sparks of electricity, and lights; his mind was whirring for a moment, wasn’t he supposed to be thinking on more difficult subjects? Sharpening his mind?

No, he would just bowl through whatever he saw, and that was the level of energy he chased with, until he found himself standing at the top of a staircase, the darkness beneath it was all consuming, infinitely deep; not a light peaked from there.

His mind went towards that Interdream mist for a moment before he shook his head, not this far out, not this far away. It was just a far more simple, straight forward darkness.

The lack of light that made Children huddle up beneath their blankets.

”The fuck am I shivering for? I ain’t no brat.” And so he began to descend, as the electric crackling had come to a stop here, perhaps that too was a light that existed to be devoured.

Where the light leads them, it is total darkness. The pitch black consumes everything: all the passing light, all the bouncing sound. Selena cannot even see her flutter mane except when for the tips of its feathered appendages dangling and touching her legs. But when she feels a grip on her right leg, she realizes it is already too late for retaliation.

"Help!" Her scream seems to resonate but the darkness engulfs the echoes in which only remains is the muffled whisper of her voice. Flutter mane, however, will not be easily stopped by the dark void. Its senses allows it to follow to where the dragging sound is.

It finally halts atop a staircase, one where Kouji Matsubara has been wandering before, and flutter mane will see a malamar holding its trainer upside down.

The dark seed of night, the ever encroaching truth of darkness, it was without a doubt to go into stuff. Kouji tightened his hands into a tight fist as he felt the darkness surrounded him, embraced him, and then finally rejected him.

He saw a flash of light in a moment, and he felt the charge run through his body; his muscles spasmed, and then he crashed to the ground. A scream of pain escaped his throat and echoed in the basement room, and yet, it was the shout.

His mind began to fade, his voice felt hoarse, his pain was visible, and yet, a shout of help, a question of request managed to spark his mind into action. ”Oi.” He said to himself before anyone else as he pushed himself off the ground and up to his feet.

The feeling of tightness in his calves as he kicked off the ground, rushed up the stairs, and gripped his pokeball. ”You’re up Urshifu.” He sent out his other half, the pokemon he considered a refelction of himself. Between Fluttermane, and Urshifu, it didn’t stand a chance, it jumped ahead, and threw a powerful Wicked Blow at the tentacle’d pokemon.

Kouji Matsubara ALWAYS PROVE HIMSELF TO BE A RELIABLE TEAMMATE WHENEVER IT COUNTS, but this is not one of those moments unfortunately. As soon as the blow hits the Malamar, its tight grip on Selena Desmarais's hand loosens, causing her to actually fall from the second floor.

The Flutter Mane hears the pitter-patter that follows and PHANTOM FORCES its way into Selena's drop point. The Kalosian plumments down on the ghostly body of her Pokemon, breaking down the momentum of an otherwise harsh fall. "Appreciated it, Kouji."

She tries to let out a chuckle, informing the other that she and her Pokemon are all right.

"Eliminate the wild Malamar, please." AFter all, they don't need any hostile Pokemon in this place if this is to be their next bunker.

Kouji saw her fall, and almost considered this another failure, another moment in which he had failed to come through; he stopped on the spot, his feet glued to the floor with that realization, the image of her splattered across the floor wouldn’t leave his mind, at least until the moment in which Fluttermane had caught her.

A thanks he didn’t deserve, he gritted his teeth as he looked at her, his eyes fixed onto the sight of what was to come. ”Urshifu, hit ‘em with a Close Combat!” He told his pokemon, who did exactly as told, a hole in the floor wouldn’t stop it from doing exactly as informed, a red energy formed around him as each fist landed; kicks followed by elbows, a string of attacks given with absolute prejudice.

”Ain’t nothing to appreciate, didn’t do anything.” He said as he cracked his neck; the Malamar ended up crashing down from where it had stood up above, falling down to where they were.

”Give ‘em the ol’ elbow drop.”
