Shin's pensive look didn't surprise Josh. After all, the idea of mounting a Serperior was Shalin's idea. "They have to be on the larger side of what's genetically possible for the species," Josh explained, having been used to hunting near Space-Time Distortions for many of the Pokémon he caught. "If they are, though, they're big enough where you can just sit not far behind their necks, no problem." Provided Venus was large enough, it wouldn't be too hard to teach. A special saddle would likely be needed, its seat raised some depending on how large the grass-type snake was.

The thought of Hades being docile intrigued Josh. "You're lucky. Hydreigon might be the most challenging dragon-type to raise." Kokusho had been easily the most challenging Pokémon he had ever raised for his Gym. It took months for the Hydreigon to be tame enough to ride, let alone participate in racing challenges. "Depending on how large Hades is, you might be able to hop on them even as a Zweilous. You have them with you?"

It seemed he had a new student, which was good. Signups were light and classes had been small after Shawn and the other Gym Trainers had died after dorian westcliff 's attack. "We can find a schedule that works for you." Not wanting to push his luck with a Quick Attack, Josh kept Inky at the Sylveon's pace, largely letting the fairy-type and Shin lead the way. "Fun having the wind in your face like this, isn't it?"

”Yeah I suppose so. You know it’s hard to believe that if seperior didn’t use most of their body to move that they would actually be pretty tall,” he said trying to remember what exactly he had read about their height and weight. He didn’t remember it exactly. But if he remembered correctly serperior’s height, or as he liked to think of it length, was almost eleven feet.

He knew very little of alpha Pokémon so it was weird to picture what a serperior would look like as one. The who alpha think had made him curious though. He wondered what gave them their sizes. Perhaps if someone found that out someone could discover a way to make all Pokémon like that. Though he was sure not everyone would be on board with that.

He had a point. Considering how Zweilous usually were he was very lucky. ”Yes which is why so many people think it weird with how docile zweilous is. Well unless he feels I’m being threatened he’s really protective. Maybe he adopted me,” he said jokingly. Though he soon became serious once more.

”Yes, he’s with me,” he said in response to the gym leader’s question. The conversation moved on and hearing his comment about schedules he nodded. ”That would be great,” he said knowing that he would have to check his schedule. He had it programmed on his phone and to check it out all he would have to do is look it up.

"Plus, they would need to be big enough that your feet wouldn't drag on the ground just from sitting on its back. Swishing back and forth like that would take a lot of getting use to. I've never been on a Pokémon like that except for my Dragonair... and flying is different."

An adoption would make sense. Perhaps the Zweilous was abused by its previous trainer and just wanted a trainer would would be respectful. "When you've had your fill of riding Pinky, can I see your Zweilous? I can tell you if it's big enough for you to mount as is. That will let me better prepare for when we meet next." The Eeveelutions made a long, sweeping turn back toward the road between Mauville and Verdanturf.

Listening to what he had to say he nodded. Oh well it didn’t seem like something he would do. He was content with Venus. And catching a larger Serperior just so he would have one to ride seemed like a betrayal of some kind. Though he supposed that line of thinking was silly. Even so he couldn’t help the way he thought on the matter.

”Yes, I can do that,” he agreed thinking about rather or not Hades would be big enough. By the time Hades had evolved from Deino to Zweilous he had already lost his eyesight. And it wasn’t something he had ever thought to ask someone else. And no one had every broached the topic. But perhaps they just that he would already know if his Zweilous was larger than average.

He felt the Sylveon make a long sweeping turn and fingered she was on her way back towards the way they had come. From what he remembered the route between Mauville and Verdanturf wasn’t a very long one. Or at least that’s what he had been told.

They would ride a bit longer with him upping the speed a bit more before he would decide that he had had enough. He wasn’t real use to riding and the way he was feeling after riding Pinky for so long made him think of how he’d felt riding the train back in Unova for an extended amount of time. Those seats hadn’t exactly been the most comfortable.[break] Josh Devlin

Josh enjoyed the thrill of high speed so much that he had forgotten how hard it could be for new riders to avoid getting saddle sore. The constant back-and-forth of a swift gallop put a lot of stress on the hips and thighs, and it typically took time and experience for the human body to adapt to that kind of motion. It was one of the reasons Pinky was so popular for new riders to learn with; the Sylveon's running stroke was smooth as could be. Had Josh brought his pride of Pyroar instead, he imagined Shin wouldn't have lasted nearby as long.

"Fun, isn't it?" Josh asked Shin half-rhetorically. The road between Verdanturf and Mauville wasn't a long one; they had just taken the scenic route north of the paved road running between the two cities. The Gym Leader preferred the scenic route to begin with; it was not for the beautiful sight that was rural and wild Hoenn, but for the lack of speed limits.

Once they had stopped, Josh slid down from his Glaceon's back and helped Shin get down from the blue fairy-type if he needed it. "Alright, let's see this Zweilous!"

”Yes it’s pretty fun. It’ll be something I have to get use to though,” he admitted. Though with everything practice made perfect. He supposed the more he practiced when it came to Pokémon the more he would get use to a saddle. That’s the way he saw things anyway.

Soon enough they came to a halt and with a bit of help from the gym leader he was able to get down. Getting up hadn’t been a problem but getting down had proved a bit difficult. Once his feet were back on the ground he grabbed the pokeball containing his Zweilous before releasing the dual type.

Considering he had only seen him as a Deino he wondered how tall he was. Wondered if he was bigger than average. If so he wondered if he would be large enough to ride even as a Zweilous. And when he had caught him as a Deino he couldn’t remember if he was larger than average. So it wasn’t like he could use his memory to help any.[break] Josh Devlin

Josh whistled when he saw how large Hades was. Shin's partner would be bigger than Kokusho, Josh's Hydreigon, after evolving! "Hades is more than big enough for you to hop onto," he confirmed. "There's this place in Verdanturf that does quality leather. Verdanturf Leather and Saddle. I highly recommend them; they're even a sponsor of the Hoenn Racing Federation. Give them my name, and they should give you a good deal on gearing up your Zweilous." The more he thought about it, the more a Zweilous that size would evolve into an uncomfortably large Hydreigon. The best-sized Pokémon were ones that a rider's legs could hang from the sides of with relative comfort. There were plenty of creative ways to make the adjustment, though many of them involved costly equipment that weighed the mount down quite a bit.

With that, their frolic had come to an end. "That was a fun afternoon," Josh said with a smile on his face. It had been a while since he had been able to go purely joy-riding like that, without the pressure of a Ranger ticket alongside the thrill of high speed. "We'll have to exchange contact information. Can't wait to see you and your Zweilous again! Unfortunately, I have another commitment back in Mauville soon, so I do need to cut things short. Have a good one!" With that, he got back on his Glaceon and rode toward his home town, though he would continue to make small talk with Shin if he was also headed that way.

From his reaction he would assume that Hades was big enough. It did make him curious though. About how big his Zweilous was compared to a normal Zweilous. Though he wasn’t sure how big a normal Zweilous was. So he supposed he would have to have that information first.

He got confirmation about Hades and he listened to what he had to say about the place that was in Verdanturf. Seemed like it would be a good idea to check it out. ”I’ll see about getting Hades fitted there. Perhaps when I have more time,” he told them gym leader. Perhaps on his next day off he would see to that. Just as long as nothing came up.

Once he was sure Josh was done checking out Hades he would return him to his pokeball. Hearing what he said he nodded in understand. ”I to have other things I must be doing. I need to get back to Lilycove,” he said as he headed in the direction of Mauville. He would have to go through Mauville then use the path under the pass to go to Slatesport so he could take the ferry to Lilycove.

Considering all this he would go in the same direction as the gym leader. To pass the time a bit they would make small talk. Eventually they would have to split off though and he would continue towards route 110 so he could use it to get to Slatesport so he could get home.[break] Josh Devlin
