This is not what Nenet had expected. A few Rockets milling about? Sure. A horde of them intent on fighting? Absolutely not. She supposes this is what she gets for only skimming the directive to come.

Nonetheless, despite the chaos, she was paired with another Ranger named Derek who she had never spoken before, though she vaguely hoped he had some sort of experience with this. She lifts her hand in greeting and offers by way of introduction, "I'm Nenet, it's a pleasure to meet you."

With a tip of her chin towards the surrounding vegetation she continues, "I suppose we're scouting?"

"...Yeah, we are." The response comes as a bit callous, but upon picking up on her lack of experience (or awareness), his features gradually soften. It wasn't like he started out much different. "Maybe even a little more than that, if you're game." And if the situation allowed it.

Providing two Beldum to roam freely, Derek averts his gaze as he thinks of how to navigate the conversation without coming off worse than he already had. Though he's in no mood for it, he is very keen of first impressions.

It doesn't take long for the duo he released to begin whirring excitedly, leading them towards some tracks ahead. Closer inspection reveals they seemed to be headed closer to the island's center, which gave their alleged targets the advantage. Nobody would be able to get close without being seen. "But if you're not so sure about what you're doing, stick close and do as I say." It didn't sound any better, and he wonders if he should toss away the idea of trying to be nice. Now wasn't the time.

There's a subtle shift in Nenet's expression, one that hardens but otherwise reveals little of her emotions at Derek's greeting and tone. "We'll see what happens," Nenet answers as to their impending activities. She hopes a fight doesn't break out with Rockets, but there were worse things.

As two Beldum are released Nenet pulls out a pokeball of her own and her Pyroar leaps onto the ground. Lowering her voice, she murmurs to her pokemon, "Let us know if you smell anyone."

With that spoken she follows after Derek and assures him, "I won't get in the way." She observes the tracks that they follow deeper towards the island's centre, each impression clear in the ground which she is careful to avoid.

A second pair of tracks appear in the ground not too much further down the trail, possibly a Mightyena's given the shape and size, where whoever they are following has released a pokemon.

"Sorry, that came out pretty harsh." It didn't take a detective to notice the shift. It's not her fault for being partnered with someone so irritable. Her intentions were good, and that was all that mattered. "I'm a little on edge as of late."

In truth, Derek was simply clinging to the idea of keeping her safe. If she strayed too far, even just a hair out of reach... He couldn't stand watching that again.

This thought perishes at the sound of his Beldum acknowledging the same as her Pyroar, though it seems to be scanning where it leads further ahead. An audible pinging sound signals each life form captured by their survey.

"Seems we might've found one of the lookouts." Gesturing towards his pokemon to split up and find the FOB, he wonders what Nenet might try in a bid to make the most of this time. "They'll be moving in to scramble their comms. Gunfire won't hurt them, so it should be fine." Taking refuge behind a rock formation, he peers down at his watch to begin a countdown.

"I'm a big girl, I'm fine," Nenet assures Derek with little inflection. She wasn't interested in either of their emotions for the time being, she just wanted to escape this little mission unscathed.

The Beldum are scouting about here and there until they seem to find a better location on their target. Her own Pyroar gives a little grumble deep in her chest and Nenet nods in acknowledgement.

"I'll distract them."
[break][break]
She takes her position beside Derek behind a rock formation and then utters to her Pyroar, "Sunny Day." As the sky above shimmers with a near-blinding light, a somewhat distant, "What the fuck?" sounds from one of their targets. There's some voice that answers them - so at least one other person is there - and with a tip of her chin towards the noise, Nenet's Pyroar gives a little nod.

Trotting out from behind the rocks and down the way, a bewildered, "It's just a Pyroar," sounds from one of the Rocket targets, their attention drawn from the Beldum doing their thing.

A request for backup further inland brought Gunner from his post guarding an aid station on the shore. Dressed in lightweight operative gear over a bulletproof vest, he followed the directions over comms until he spotted one of Team Rocket's lookout posts.[break][break]

A couple of League Rangers were positioned behind a nearby rock formation. He watched as one of their Pokémon, a female Pyroar, summoned a SUNNY DAY to confuse the Team Rocket agents.[break][break]

It was the perfect distraction. Gunner nodded at his Scizor, a silent go-ahead to strike.[break][break]

The bug leaped into the air, wings beating furiously. Before he even reached the lookout, he aimed his large claws at the structure and fired a FLASH CANNON. Shouts of alarm from the terrorists filled the air as one of the walls burst inward and the entire tower swayed on its legs.[break][break]

In the chaos, Gunner jogged over to the Rangers. "Agent Graves," he said by way of introduction, his expression as serious as stone. "You two are scouts, right? I'll help clear the path for you here."

A Scizor leapt through the air to join the chaos of the attack, and Nenet's golden eyes searched until they landed on Gunner's emergent form. Her expression twists momentarily, uncertainty clouding her features until, thankfully, it clears and the new person seems to be on their side.

"Neffatari Nzingha," she greets. With a sharp nod of acknowledgement she adds, "Yes."

Behind her the Scizor makes a decisive path for the newly formed group. Pyroar peers at the new pokemon for a moment before deciding it isn't a threat. As the sunlight subsides enough to see clearly, a gout of flame is directed towards the Rocket members.

"Press on, or retreat," she asks Gunner, more than willing to default to another authority on their attack.

Voices crackled in the comms unit in Gunner's ear. He listened to the fresh feed of information as the Pyroar joined the assault on the lookout post. Between the lion and his Scizor, the Team Rocket operatives had their hands full. Their own Pokémon emerged from Pokéballs to fight back.[break][break]

Gunner watched closely, one hand on his belt just in case he needed to release a second Pokémon to join the fray.[break][break]

"We press on," he said to Neffatari. "The Council is keen on establishing new checkpoints further inland, both to make sure we reach the objective inside the mountain and to stop the Rocket advance."[break][break]

He turned and walked out from behind their hiding place, intending to approach the tower.[break][break]

"Let's go."

Not exactly what she was hoping would happen, but Nenet would assist nonetheless. She follows after Gunner. Wary of what could unfold at any moment, she stalks towards the tower, making note of its hastily built faults and how to exploit the shoddy craftsmanship.

The easiest thing to do would be knock the whole thing down. Nenet hums softly, reaching for a second pokeball to release a Minior. Tipping her chin towards the top, she directs, "Knock off the antennae and connecting wires."

Maybe they could salvage something.

As Minior soundly knocks out the relays, the Rockets nearby have their hands full with Pyroar and Scizor's two-pronged attack. It seems - despite the potential importance of this location - only two men have been left to guard it, and one is already fleeing from the fight.
