She sat upon the small rowboat, silent and compact, staring out over the fog covered lake. She gripped her parasol close, holding the wooden handle with numbed fingers. The woman was mentally kicking herself for forgetting to bring a pair of woollen gloves. She’d brought a hat, a wool beanie that hugged her ears and protected her head from the biting cold, but her poor fingers had been abandoned to the elements.[break][break]

“I envy your ability to not feel the biting cold little Phantom.” A soft smile, as plagued by regrets as it was anything else, decorated her features as she looked down towards the small Pokemon at her side. A spectral body of black wisps, floating and flowing as if it was one with the mist, flowed through a mask of simple wood that was carved and shaped from the husk of a dead tree. The little Pokemon hovered upwards and forced itself into her arms, intending to bring a small amount of warmth to her trainer.[break][break]

Unfortunately for the little tree, its kindness was hampered by its own very nature. Ghost time Pokemon, especially ones inhabiting the husks of dead trees, were not known for warmth. What little warmth remained within Fumiki’s fingers was sapped away, drawn out by the little ghost type. Of course, Fumiki was not gripped by a degree of cruelty so vast as to reject the gesture. She wrapped her free arm around the little creature, patting them on the head.[break][break]

The journey to the small islet was a brief one and as the boat arrived, Fumiki stepped off. Her feet landed upon the field of green and she turned, looking back towards the boatswain pushing off the earthen edge.[break][break]

“Thank you.” A simple nod was the Boatswain's only reply as she walked towards the maw that was the entrance to the cave. She breathed deep and stepped, passing into shadow and darkness. She was here for a very specific reason: To honour a request from her father. He was busy with work and in his advancing age, could no longer handle the trek up the mountain’s many flights. As such, the responsibility of remembrance and mourning landed upon his daughter’s shoulders.[break][break]

She walked through Pyre’s interior and headed for the stairs, grasping a simple wooden talisman, and began to climb. She was well aware the second floor was home to wild Pokemon, ghosts and other spirits of regret.
