A golden sheen glimmered in her eyes again, reminiscent of a familiar ochre hue.[break][break]

"If it were that straightforward to get a Red Shard, you wouldn't need my help. The League hasn't given you shit, so be grateful Rocket gives a damn because I asked them to. You're welcome, by the way."[break][break]

She exhaled deeply, attempting to compose herself as she turned to face him again. Without preamble, her tone softened again to a more coaxing decibel. Her eyes shone emerald once more.[break][break]

"I only told Walsh," she said, her voice sweet and reassuring as she brushed the hair out of his face. "How am I supposed to get clearance to do this, without his approval?"[break][break]

Elisabeth Fiorelli hits a sore spot when she brings up the league and their passivity (incompetence) when it comes to helping him acquire more RED SHARDS. it also stirs at the doubt that already resides with him, dragging it up to the surface for him to confront.[break][break]

There was a certain allure to flirting with disaster.[break][break]

He confused her as he reached out for her hand, asking for something that left himself so unnecessarily vulnerable. Her eyes narrowed. Was he trying to make her fall in love with him as collateral, ensuring she wouldn't betray him? She'd given him no indication to believe this line of manipulation would work, however.[break][break]

No, the more feasible explanation was somehow more implausible at the same time.[break][break]

A stirring of bewildered pity rendered her silent as he stared at her openly with hope in his eyes. He knew better, surely? He'd already known many women, even betrayed many lovers himself, and here he was looking an Arbok in the eyes and asking her to stay in the garden.[break][break]

Would it be just as foolish of her to refuse his invitation, when allowing him to feel this way made it easier to achieve her own ends?[break][break]

He insisted on making things so complicated.[break][break]

She sighed, reaching for the bottle behind her to take a long, deep drink from it. Only after exhaling did she hand him the wine, meeting his gaze with resignation of her own.[break][break]

it isn't his taste in wine that she calls shit, it's Eva Morales's, but he doesn't bother with the correction because his mind never even wanders to it, too focused on the inevitability of her leaving and the glaring lack of control he has over that.[break][break]
