They’re an eccentric bunch, but they’re his. His folk, people he trusts, far removed from League high command.[break][break]
“Feels weird, going on an adventure while the region’s on the brink of war.” This is what he signed up for – defending the region from threats that don’t care about sides. Regardless of who wins the power struggles that follow, these colossal Pokemon will wreak havoc if left unchecked. So, he dons a poncho fit for the desert, dons goggles to keep sand out of his eyes, and he treks.[break][break]
Ralsei, an oft-forgotten member of his team, descends from the sky and perches on a rock above them. He motions in frantic waves, pointing up ahead. A rumble from beneath them gives warning that something is coming.[break][break]
“Alright. Keep your wits ‘bout you. All three of you went through my gym. Worst mistake you can make’s to panic. Ralsei, I know you wish you were home reading a book or something, but we’ll get you there soon.” His Decidueye takes off, hovering just behind the Elite Four.[break][break]
Navy does love a good fight, and he doubts this will disappoint.

It was no secret by now that war was coming. If plans were supposed to be kept to the League's uppermost echelon, they'd long leaked. Then again, was it even much of a surprise by this point? "War was coming" since Rocket crossed a boundary they shouldn't have back in Meteno, when they sacrificed the safety of the region and the last of their good will so Walsh could have his moon rocks.[break][break]

And yet they remained unpunished while their ranks swelled each day.[break][break]

Had it just been Isaac and Navy, he'd love to ask why. What was the League doing wrong that this was still happening? It wasn't like Rocket was keeping up the goodwill offensive they'd started when he joined. had long exposed their secrets, and Hoenn had felt the bite of the "new, improved" Rocket time and time again.[break][break]

If the kids (though Baki would for sure throw things at him if he said that) weren't here (Eris would promptly join her in throwing things), Isaac knew Navy'd give it to him straight. He wasn't like the others. He wouldn't insist that the League could never fail, could only be failed. Especially with Kyle gone, Isaac was sure he'd storm into that next AQUA assembly slinging fire and brimstone.[break][break]

They'd just have to back each other up on that, wouldn't they?[break][break]

"Shadow him, Borb. Remember our training." The steely-eyed Rowlet on Isaac's shadow nodded, then flew into the shadow of his ascendant. While Eris had pursued ideas of her own, Isaac, Baki, and Navy had been whipping up a little rookery of their own. As members of the same species, the three owls would be more than capable of working in flawless sync. They couldn't be bigger or badder than these desert monsters. Agility, wits, and the numbers game would be their only solace.[break][break]

Wait. Fuck.[break][break]

Project Lockbox. Isaac never quite knew how that old initiative went. Did it fizzle out? Or did Rocket succeed in establishing little bases all over the region? The plan had fallen quiet, but perhaps that was exactly what Rocket want. Who was to say that, as the League planned their invasion of Sootopolis, Rocket's own court of owls wouldn't descend upon the prideful colossus' blind spots?[break][break]

Isaac could feel his stomach churn, and yet he held his tongue. Now was not the time.

History has decided to cast him in the role of a giantslayer, and he thinks it time to start carrying that mantle.[break][break]
“I’ll back you guys up. We’ll need to fight this one with our brains.” Such that they are. Their combined IQs wouldn’t boil water. “Ralsei, you know the score.” His archer does. Ralsei would love to be far away from here, being Dewford’s silent guardian angel. A new novel in his favorite pirate series is set to be released soon, and he wants to dig in.[break][break]
Instead, he’s here, fighting in some insane battle with two champions of the realm, a girl cursed with a sprite’s help, and a maiden kissed by the sea. Ralsei rises, spreads his wings, and swoops low across the ground. Where he goes, flowers bloom. Life begins to grow in the desert. His gentle spirit coaxes life where there was none before. None of these trainers are grass specialists, but he coaxes their Pokemon, his younger siblings, to greater heights.[break][break]

"Borb, keep him busy while everyone preps. You're the hardest target to hit." The Rowlet swiveled his head (where did it even stop? Where did his body begin?) and nodded at Isaac, before flying out to bravely challenge the Golurk. It floated like a Butterfree, gracefully looping around the Golurk's airspace to fluster and harry it.[break][break]

As its wings caught the hot desert sun, and Grassy Terrain sprouted around the battlefield, Borb's body began to glow. It was as if the natural environment was conspiring to draw as much strength out of the little owl as possible. His movements hastened. Focus sharpened in his eyes. With the support of his allies, even one so little could accomplish great things.[break][break]

At this rate, he'd be flying circles around the Golurk. It was the climax of King Kong, but without the pretty lady.[break][break]
