A strong wind in Josh's face had never felt so good.

Though he could not yet sit in Swift's thundercloud saddle per his doctor's orders, there was one such saddle he could sit in. It was that of a Pokémon as important, if not more important to him, than the Raikou was. It was that of a Pokémon the Champion knew better than he did the Raikou. A Pokémon he knew since before he got his Trainer's License. Saber, the fastest Manectric in Hoenn. Despite Josh's passion and affection for the Johto Beast, his true best friend was still Saber. And even with Swift in his possession, Josh would still dress up his Manectric as a Raikou for masquerades. It was a tradition that would not die.

This was also his first rescue ticket since recovering from his injuries in Ultra Space. Not only would he appreciate the extra money, but he cherished the smiles people would have on their faces. He was excited to get back at it, doing what he promised Eris Halla he would do more of: saving lives.

True to his moniker, the Master of Faster, Josh had arrived at Petalburg's north gate leading into the woods before his partner, Montgomery James , had shown up. He dismounted from the purple, billowy saddle and gave gentle pats to the stoic Type: Null alongside the Manectric.

[attr="class","monty"]The police station had been notified of a missing person in Petalburg moments ago. That meant that a search party needed to be formed immediately.

And who better to send than a deputy from Dewford?

Montgomery didn't shy away from cases like these, armed with his trusted gun at his hip and a few Poke balls at his side holding his Pokemon. He had been notified that his search partner for the case was Josh Devlin, Mauville's gym leader.

He was curious why a gym leader would take part, until they informed him of the speed of the trainer's Pokemon and their enhancement of the search party. Therefore, he didn't argue, instead turning up to the meeting point and spotting the leader there atop one of his Pokemon.

Josh waved toward the deputy as soon as he approached. Though their hair color was the same, their hair styles couldn't contrast any more. The Gym Leader's was far from neat, though his racing helmet covered it most of the time. Not this time, for he didn't plan on going extremely fast. He would rather be able to feel the wind all over his face rather than just through where his visor would protect him during races. He would have need of the helmet and windshield soon enough. Not yet. Not while he was still in rehab.

"Montgomery?" he asked to confirm his partner's name. Were he to get a positive response, even if it was just a nod, he would continue. "Gym Leader Devlin, but please, Josh is good." Logging back into RangerNet, Josh pulled the ticket up on his phone and reviewed the briefing. "Last known coordinates on the far west side of the woods. And that's Galvantula territory, if RangerNet's resources are current. Brought some Pokémon to hedge against electric attacks, including Saber here." And one more in case of a dire emergency, though he hoped not to have to use his Beast for such a mundane operation. "It is a bit of a trip, though. Got a Pokémon that can take you there?"

He'd read over the mission information before he'd arrived, though he wouldn't say that he had such details as what sort of Pokemon they were going to have to deal with the deeper they went into the woods.

Leave it to a ranger to have those tools. He was just a cop, after all.

"Take me there? Unless ya consider a CLAYDOL a Pokemon suitable for transport, I don't say I do," he replied. "If ya got a spare, I wouldn't mind takin' it."

While a Claydol would be functional for getting there, it sounded uncomfortable, and it would certainly be slow. "I got you covered. How does Blinky look?" he asked Montgomery, clicking open a Poké Ball containing the giant-looking Jolteon that Mauville Gym was known for. She was one of eight Eeveelutions close to, if not at, the limit that their genetic code would allow for. The Jolteon's saddle covered most of her back to accommodate her vigorous gait, and there was even a guard in front of it to keep a rider from flying into her quills. "If you think you're too tall for her, I can let you aboard Saber instead."

Regardless of travel arrangements, Josh would lead the way to their destination. "Had to deal with Galvantula before?" he asked. "They can be a bit tricky to handle, especially without fire Pokémon. They're great for battling bug-types, but not without a water Pokémon to put out the fire. And water Pokémon could easily get cooked by latent static from so many of them."

[attr="class","monty"]The ranger sent out a large JOLTEON — perhaps the biggest Montgomery had seen. She was already donned with a saddle across the expanse of her back, her eyes looking expectantly at the deputy.

"I think it should be fine," he answered. "Yer only a few inches shorter than me. If ya ridden her, I think I'd be okay."

Though, he couldn't admit that he'd ever ridden any sort of Pokemon aside from horse-types. So, he wondered what kind of experience he'd be in for with the EEVEELUTION.

They were on their way through the woods, Josh listing information he had regarding the GALVANTULA. "Leave it to ya rangers to know all this sort of information. I'm more of the wing it as I go guy..."

Blinky was a bit different from a horse Pokémon. Her gait was a little bouncier, she was faster to respond, and she felt lighter. She was also much, much faster. The Gym Leader would show Montgomery how to control the electric-type; while not fundamentally different than a horse, it would take some adjusting. A squeeze too hard, and the Jolteon would sprint. "When you're ready, let's head deeper in."

Back atop Saber, Josh led the way northwest toward the lost trainer's last-known position. "Keep your eyes out for Galvantula webs," Josh warned. "Other Pokémon, too, but it's easy to get tangled up in them. It's part of the reason I brought electric Pokémon; they'll keep us safe from their webs."

From his side, Montgomery retrieved his trusty pistol. A wild smirk crawled onto his lips, a very appropriate one for a wild cowboy. He aimed ahead, steadying his hand that was waving in the air from the bounding Pokemon.

A bullet shot forward, clearing away the webbing. "Let's move. We ain't got much time left."

What a sharpshooter Montgomery James was; were he on a Zebstrika instead, the scene of him shooting through the critical threads of the Galvantula webs would have looked like it was straight out of a western Unovan film. The loud noise caused the Galvantula and Joltik attending the webs to flee for their lives.

"Great shots," Josh complimented as his Manectric and Jolteon cleared away any loose, hanging threads blocking them. "I was always better with a sword than a bow or a gun." Mounted archery took incredible skill, particularly from the backs of Pokémon he favored. It was hard enough to shoot from the back of a horse Pokémon, let alone from one with a more pronounced gait like a big cat. "Now keep your eyes open and your ears keen for our victim. They can't be far now."

Not that his companion would know that.

His Pokemon picked up a scent, leading them toward the side. And there, they found the individual, clinging onto life.

"I'm callin' reinforcements. If ya wanna get outta here and do a report or somethin', I can handle it from here." He didn't mind if Josh stayed or left.
