He'd been barred access from the DRACONID RUINS in and around SOOTOPOLIS CITY since his defection. Since then, the city has undergone a destructive flood and calamitous battle. And now, despite disliking the way with which it was achieved, Sootopolis was open to him once more.[BREAK][BREAK]

His grudge against freya morningstar and declan walsh could be set aside this foggy October night, he reasoned. For now, ensuring the integrity of the HEBI NO AWA TEMPLE was paramount.[BREAK][BREAK]

The temple itself was hidden within the eastern cliff face of the Sootopolis crater. The climb to reach the cave-like entrance was steep and one mistake could send one plummeting towards the crashing waves below. Thankfully, SARAGOSA made scaling it look all too easy. Once they've reached it, Remiel dismounts the ILLUMINA GARCHOMP and turns to ensure his cousin made it there safely as well.[BREAK][BREAK]

"Are you ready to head in?" He asks over the echo of dripping water from further inside. Meanwhile, sensing a need for it, his Garchomp ILLUMINATES the area around them with a glowing snout.[BREAK][BREAK]

The temple that she and her cousin would be doing maintenance for is on a steep cliff. Elise recalled that the last time that she had went riding dragon riding around the border of Sootopolis with Josh, the Mauville gym leader had told her that the city was Rocket owned. A territory that was dangerous to those who set foot in it once, not anyone from the League dared approach it.[break][break]

That was until the end of the Sootpolis-Petalburg war, the city itself was neutral around the two factions. She doesn’t know how that came about, but it probably was a truce between Rocket and League.[break][break]

Remiel Calcifet doesn’t have to worry about her not making it safely to the cliff where the temple stood. Her Rapid Strike Urshifu scales the steep cliff like it was nothing to the female ursine Pokemon. Elise held onto the fur of the legendary bear until Tianshi brings herself up on the cliff’s edge and pulls herself up.[break][break]

Dismounting off of the ursine Pokemon, the Galarian Ambassador turns towards her cousin with a nod. “I’m ready to head inside, cousin.”

With a short nod and an excited gleam in his eye, Remiel leads the way as his Garchomp follows closely behind with its illuminating snout. The scent of the salty brine seems to grow thicker as they proceed. The sound of dripping water echoes without pause down the craggy corridors of this place. Fang-shaped stalagmites and stalactites greet them from below and above, respectively.[BREAK][BREAK]

Every shadow seems like something lying in wait— every footstep they make sounds too loud. For some reason, there is an oppressive air filling these tunnels. Elise might not know the difference, but her cousin certainly did. After all, he'd been here before and didn't remember feeling this the first time he'd come to pay a visit.[BREAK][BREAK]

Raising a single hand, the universal gesture to 'stop' without saying a word, the Calcifet's find themselves in a circular chamber, surrounded by some of the aforementioned stalagmites and stalactites. It almost looked like they'd been eaten by a GUZZLORD here, trapped in a mouth with a thousand teeth with seemingly no escape.[BREAK][BREAK]

"Do you hear that?" Remiel whispers, eyeing the shadows.[BREAK][BREAK]

Faintly, a guttural moan.

Seeing her cousin give her a nod, she switches out her Rapid Strike Urshifu and releases the Calyrex shard out of his Dive Ball before proceeding to follow her cousin’s lead with his Illumina Garchomp. The Galarian ambassador figures that his Garchomp may need support in battle if they’ll encounter danger at every turn in the temple. She’s not very acquainted with the temple’s layout like Remiel was which meant that she can’t hear the same things he hears.[break][break]

With how the shadows creeped around the temple’s insides, even the ambassador finds it a little scary. An oppressive air appears to be around, maybe its age would have a couple of vengeful spirits that died in its walls. Even so, her late mother’s training had prepared her to deal with spirits in order to calm them and figuring out what they wanted in the afterlife.[break][break]

She and her legendary shard stop when her cousin puts up a hand gesture before she sees him listen close to the sound. Elise is able to see the circular chamber with the light from Remiel’s Illumina Garchomp. [break][break]

“I heard it too.” She responds to her cousin while the floating Calyrex volunteers to position himself as her royal guard. Both the royal diplomat and her shard hear the low guttural sound, as faint as it’s resounding through the walls of the Draconid temple.

SARAGOSA senses it, too— more so than the humans. The horns at the sides of the Garchomp's head serve as acute sensory receptors, after all, and had long been believed to sense things of a supernatural nature as well. Remiel had always turned his nose up at the thought when he was younger, but he had since learned that the magical nature of dragons could not be underestimated.[BREAK][BREAK]

"It's a wild Pokémon somewhere. Probably just hungry or in pain." The royal surmises with a nod, taking a moment to reassess his surroundings once more. His gut told him that something was certainly wrong... but there was no point in scaring his younger cousin until they knew for sure what they were dealing with. "Let's keep moving."[BREAK][BREAK]

Funny, he thinks. A few years ago, he would have had no qualms about alarming her. He was colder then. A lot more detached. Then he'd met Isra Nightingale and she'd shown him that he was doing it all wrong...[BREAK][BREAK]

Moving through the chamber of teeth (as he liked to call it), they go down a steep corridor he liked to call the 'gullet' as his Garchomp lights the way. "The ruins aren't too far down now. We'll be there soon."[BREAK][BREAK]

But the moaning... the moaning only seems to intensify.

If the ambassador had her Hydreigon out, Satanael would have sensed it along with the Illumina Garchomp. Hers was not like what the Pokedex makes him out to be, he appeared to be a gentle dragon underneath an intimidating stature. She’ll actually trust Remiel’s word that he surmises it was a Pokemon that was hungry or in pain inside the temple.[break][break]

“Oh so that is what it is.” She responds with a little relieved sigh and she’ll keep moving along to be behind her cousin. The Calyrex still stuck close to his handler’s side. Unlike the female human who didn’t have strong senses, he is able to sense the oppressive air and the supernatural that came with it. [break][break]

Remiel lets her know that they’re almost there to the ruins from the temple. She’s curious to see what the ruins in the temple look like.[break][break]

“I will keep following you.” Elise nods to her older cousin when they moved down from the chamber of ‘teeth’ and to the steep corridor. “And I’m curious to see what they’re like.”[break][break]

Even if she and her cousin were going to the ruins, the moaning appears to intensify more through their excursion. A low snarl comes from the Calyrex shard when he hears the noises, teeth showing from the hare king since he acts on protecting the princess from real danger.

Down, down, down they go. Deeper into the depths of the cave. So deep that, eventually, the ambient light ceases to be at all. Without the glow of his Garchomp's snout, they would no doubt find themselves in complete darkness.[BREAK][BREAK]

That, coupled with the strange moaning that echoes throughout the passageways, might have been enough to turn away your typical explorer. But Remiel was nothing if not prideful about his work. He was used to the shadows, the dust, and the strange sounds one might come across in the field. It was why his sub-specialty was Ghost-types.[BREAK][BREAK]

Slowing to a stop, the archaeologist smiles and points down at a partially obscured stone-paved trail that Saragosa illuminates. "Look here. We've finally reached it: the boundaries of the HEBI NO AWA TEMPLE." He informs his cousin before looking back up at the path ahead... and enduring a sharp chill that suddenly runs up his spine.[BREAK][BREAK]

And, as his Illumina Garchomp increases the brightness of its light, the reason for this chill is soon revealed: a blood-stained handprint printed against the cave wall just ahead before smearing.[BREAK][BREAK]

While her cousin knows the shadows as a sub Ghost type specialist, the Galarian ambassador knows every strange sound, shadow, and the cobwebs plus the dust that came with haunted places she explored. The Calcifets were occultists before they were royalty, so she’d pick up on the interest on her late mother being a Johtonian spirit medium too. [break][break]

Deeper into the temple they would go, she looks around to see more of the corridors. Darkness would have made them lost, but thanks to the illumination from the Garchomp’s snout, Elise’s relief came with how prepared her cousin was in exploring the deeper parts that were without ambient light. [break][break]

Clearly, the archaeologist prince came to a stop when he points at a partially obscured stone trail that the Garchomp’s bright snout shows. “I see it too, cousin. Are we looking into the artifacts here in the temple itself?” She asks first since the princess wonders if they’ll look into the ancient history of the temple. Her cousin was the one that studied much into the Draconids first after all.[break][break]

The blood-stained handprint that’s clear from the Garchomp’s illuminated snout sends another chill down the princess’ spine. It’s smearing meant that someone else may have shared an unfortunate fate down there as the Calyrex shard takes a look at it too. “Please do not go too far ahead. We do not know what can await us deeper, Charles.” Elise comes over to where the shard of Calyrex would be looking at the handprint like a worried mother for her child.

"I have to advance," Remiel assures his cousin. "While the artifacts in this place have been mostly relocated, I need to ensure the integrity of the temple as a whole. It's a cultural landmark, Elise. I can't let it fall to war."[BREAK][BREAK]

With a newfound sense of determination from his words, the archaeologist proceeds forward with his Garchomp. "You can wait here if you'd like or find your way back to the exit if you remember how. Something bad is going on here."[BREAK][BREAK]

He'd sensed it since the beginning. The bloody handprint had all but confirmed it. And, if that hadn't been enough, the pair of glowing eyes that peeked around a corner at them in the distance was enough to startle Remiel into action.[break][break]

"There! You! Stop where you are!" He exclaims, his voice echoing through the passageways alongside the sound of his running footsteps. "Saragosa, SPOTLIGHT!" The AVATAR commands, but the shadowy figure disappears again before the beam of light can reveal it.[break][break]

She’d admire the way that Remiel really cared much for the temple being in top shape and that he can’t let it be destroyed in another war. The temple was a cultural site for the Draconids, much like how the tower in Hammerlocke was one too. A tapestry that was hundreds of years old would never be replaced easily.[break][break]

“I’m sorry, cousin.” The bloody handprint comes to mind when she is firm in wanting to do the opposite of what he told her to do. “But I must decline. I can’t let you get into danger when I or Charles am not here to patch your wounds if you get injured in this temple.”[break][break]

The shadows continue to swirl around her and her shard. When her late mother helped her develop those abilities from her mother’s family of spirit mediums, Elise finds that she can’t turn this off no matter how hard she tried.[break][break]

And it scares her to this day that shadows would follow her. She’d much prefer being in the warm safety and comfort of her beloved knight, Cadeyrn Osmond , when she can see his smile and feel his gentle hands on hers.[break][break]

Unlike the other people that were scared of her because of her communication with ghost Pokemon, he didn’t seem to mind. That was what made her fall deeply in love with him. He cared a great deal about her as a person than a princess above his station.[break][break]

When she sees Charles float off to follow the running prince and his Illumina Garchomp, the ambassador follows after her cousin in an attempt to see the shadowed figure. "Were you able to get a good look?" She asks the older prince when she catches up, thanks to being able to follow the light from the Garchomp's snout as the female dragon moved.

He might have expected his cousin not to heed his warning. Every day since moving to HOENN, Elise Calcifet seemed to be growing braver and more self-assured. It was why he didn't bother protesting her as she followed him into the next chamber.[break][break]

When they finally come to a stop, the Calcifet cousins find themselves within a large circular chamber paved with ancient marble. Pools of cave water fill reservoirs dotted throughout it. This appears to have been an ancient bathhouse of some sort.[break][break]

"Were you able to get a good look?"

"No..." Remiel bitterly responds, shifting his eyes to and fro as he scrutinizes each shadow. "And this area branches off in two separate ways, ultimately leading to the altar room." He sighs, turning back and facing Elise in the spotlight of his Garchomp's snout.[break][break]

"Since you've decided to come along, I suppose the best way forward is to... split up." The crown prince hesitantly suggests. It felt wrong to say that when every instinct in his body told him to keep his dear cousin close and safe. But, finally, he was beginning to consider that she was far more self-sufficient than he gave her credit for.[BREAK][BREAK]

Perhaps now she could prove it.

She’s able to follow the prince to the chamber filled with water. Marble pillars surround the circular room and she assumes that was an old bathhouse too. Circhester had the same layout with their bathhouse though she has noted that there were two paths that forked off from each other.[break][break]

“That is a shame.” She replied to her cousin. Maybe the figure had run off to the altar room, but she won’t find them until the ambassador can catch up. [break][break]

When Remiel does suggest that they should split up, she gives him a nod. “Don’t worry about me.” Elise was a much better person, she probably can’t rely much on having her cousin be there to protect her. “I am sure that I will be able to join you at the other side and Charles will be there as my royal guard.”[break][break]

Well the shard was one she trusted that he'd protect her besides her knight, Cadeyrn Osmond , anyway. The red-headed man was not there to keep her safe either, so she was on her own from when she’ll enter the other path.

Her words do little to sate his unease. Nevertheless, the royal steels himself and nods. "Right," He responds, turning to Charles. "Please take care of her, High King. Saragosa and I will go this way. If we don't see you at the end, we'll loop around to find you."[BREAK][BREAK]

With no more time to waste, however, Remiel and his Illumina Garchomp take the corridor to the right and depart. Their footsteps echo as they continue moving forward, slowly disappearing from earshot amidst the constant dripping of water and rumbles of faraway waves.[BREAK][BREAK]

Eventually, the pair find themselves alone in a wide hallway. Its walls are decorated with half-faded DRACONID murals. It's hard to perceive the stories told through them, but Remiel can make out serpentine designs and signs of water worship.[BREAK][BREAK]

'Mrrp.'[break][break]

Saragosa chirrups.

She has her illuminated snout pointed towards one side of the hallway. The wall there has completely collapsed, mounds of white stone giving way to the deep dark of a cave beyond. In the distance, however... the dim glow of crystals.[BREAK][BREAK]

This hadn't been here before.
