THE DLC EXPANSION OF SYLVIS, THE FAIRY KINGDOM, has finally launched. much to the convenience of current players, the additional content has shifted from being purchasable content to a free add-on. some surmise such a move has been done to appease an already rattled playerbase, for the data breach controversies have never quite subsided.[break][break]

still, the expansion's launch draws big numbers. the gamemasters of blades & bulwarks have announced a celebratory event to be held within the castle's inner courtyard. after traversing past a long stone bridge that connects to a wooden drawbridge, players would be able to find themselves within the elaborate architecture of a fairytale castle. around the grand castle, a moat is home to several feraligatr.[break][break]

as players await the commencement of the event, some will begin to notice several players logging out. certainly, this is nothing abnormal. in a place as densely populated as this, those with lower spec computers would be prone to disconnects. perhaps, some are called by their parents for meals- because can you even pause VR?[break][break]

however, these accounts return. their bodies stand inert and static. some players attempt to speak to their returned partners and receive no response. suddenly, everyone's UI reveals that they are taking damage, despite their health bars remaining full. players who attempt to log out will find a notification pop up before them: "YOU CAN NOT LOG OUT WHILE IN COMBAT."[break][break]

players begin to scream as the returned avatars begin to attack the crowds. spells are lobbed forth and swords strike virtual flesh. as chaos ensues, these hacked accounts attempt to overpower you and the players in the courtyard.[break][break]

ahead, hundreds of accounts storm the bridge, led by one skull-wearing swordsman.[break][break]

the hacked accounts seem to desire the throne room. thankfully, you are unwittingly the first line of defense. currently, you are in the courtyard. the next section of the castle is the inner ward, filled with narrow alleys and shops. after, it is inside the castle building itself, then a staircase to the throne room.[break][break]

Like many others, Gavin has taken a break from Blades & Bulwarks; unlike much of the player-base, however, he did not fear the security breach. He protected his personal information well. Rather, it was the dwindling player-base itself that caused the game to lose its luster for him. Hackers drained all the fun from PvP.[break][break]

Still, he'd enjoyed his time with the game enough to give it a second chance upon the release of its new kingdom.[break][break]

He's in the courtyard with the others when avatars begin to drop like flies, only to return with a menacing vengeance. He stifles a sigh.[break][break]

Though he himself was a griefer, a blight onto the community in of itself, the programmer didn't use hacking to fuck around. Not that he had a problem with it, considering that he knew how to protect his personal information, and thought that people who didn't were morons. Rather, it was the fact that they were getting in his way that annoyed him, plain and simple.

Rikiya would climb up to the walls above the gates, to where the archers would be posted. Immediately, Rikiya aimed his wand towards the bridge, and blasted it with a Lava Plume, attempting to get any of the 'zombies', and to potentially deter more from crossing the bridge, at least temporarily. For once, the troll was now a team player.

Kaida wasn't truly the most gaming person in the world, nor did she try to stay on the virtual world, the real world needed her much more, but even she could put some time aside to see what was going on...to enjoy this strange body a little longer. [break][break]

She didn't notice the hacked accounts right away, having ignored the previous hacking with her usual animosity to anything that didn't have to do with her duties, but the consequences were right in front of her eyes. [break][break]

Ever pragmatic, Kaida attempted to log out, unwilling to risk herself, but the error thrumed irritatingly in front of her eyes. Fine. Next pragmatic plan. She ran, plan and simple, leaving the front lines for those more suited. She would work better in the narrow areas, her long-range attacks being lacking. Her body wound tight like a serpent, an aura settling around her body as power raised her stats. [break][break]

Ruby hadn't played B&B in quite some time, a bit too busy with real-world circumstances and life. However, how could she not show up for this wonderful event? The Fairy type kingdom! She had been looking forwards to this ever since she even heard of it coming out! Fairy type pokemon were so cute and adorable, she hoped the kingdom was going to be as well. However, she had scarcely begun to explore the courtyard before chaos erupted.

Weren't cities supposed to be safe zones? Why was she supposedly taking damage? Stupid hackers not making the game fun for anyone! Frustrated and annoyed with the turn of events, Ruby brandished her wand. She really didn't like PvP, not when she could help it. But in a circumstance like this where everyone's enjoyment could be ruined, there was no time to hesitate. What an absolute annoyance, she was looking forwards to cute butterflies and the sweet laughter of fairies.

Taking advantage of her smaller size compared to many of the other players, Ruby quickly tried to duck and weave towards the back of the crowd where her spells could still be effective, without putting herself in too much danger. Quickly waving her arcane focus into the air, Ruby cried out. "Fire Pledge!" Before casting the spell, the column of fire hopefully forming within the crowd of hacked players and burning them up. Someone else here had to know Grass or Water pledge, right? In such a huge crowd, combo moves such as those were a no-brainer to use!

[attr="class","ithread"][attr="class,"brawler"]iris is no stranger to the battlefield, but she has never faced a war. not like this. the army presses on as she struggles to understand what exactly is going on. she'd assumed the glitch only affected her, that a quick log-out would fix everything by the time she re-entered the game, but as the minutes drew on she became increasingly aware that this was different to ordinary gameplay. a special event, perhaps? though she can't remember the announcing anything.

at least the hacked accounts seemed easy to distinguish against player controlled avatars. those that face to his direction were enemies, and those that faced the other direction weren't.

he tries to take a quick survey of the surroundings. most were setting up for an obvious fight, while the others were trying to chip away the health through aoe. unfortunately for kyle, he doesn't have either options, but it wasn't like those were the only ones they can do.

judging the players on which ones seemed to be the front line based on their equipment, kyle picks out the targets for his long-ranged nuzzle, attempting to paralyze them so that they lag behind and the backline overpasses them.

zombies shouldn't have enough cognitive ability to reposition themselves with the change of pacing, he believes.

Blinking, he knew that the Fairy kingdom was something his boyfriend had been waiting for, but due to a lot of things happening the other wasn’t around… oh, no. Oh, hell no.

Frantic, he opened his in-game menu and sent messages to the people he knew—hopefully there were some around the area who could lend assistance—because shit was going down, why the unholy hell were there zombies in the game?! Wasn’t everything just fancy a few moments ago?

…maybe it was a good thing Florian wasn’t around, but still—most of the players he could see were either Rogues or Rangers, with a sprinkling of Mages…

…shit. Ah, shit!

Quickly opening another window, he then types a message hoping everyone can see, ‘Healers, fall back!’ before sending it out into the open. Now he could turn his attention to the incoming horde…

What was the best thing to do with these zombies? Oh, that’s right…

Conjuring up his book of spells, he quickly riffled through the pages, finding the one he needed—and hoping he could drive them back.

“Stand back, this is going to get real hot!” he called out to anyone within range, before casting Inferno at the oncoming horde.

A huge wall of flames, presumably from his magical spell, shimmered into existence and joined the other Fire-type attacks, attempting to rain absolute hell down on the ‘zombied’ horde that was approaching them.

while others target the hacked horde on the bridge, noah focuses his attention on those in the courtyard. he sees others like @iris buff themselves- and for awhile, the kyle-clad swordsman feels inadequately prepared.

however, noah doesn't dally. he rushes to kyle lopez's side and swings his steel. ethereal dreepy fly from the blade, colliding into the hacked players after spectral clouds.

as noah hears the roar of flames from Alexei Ivanov's attack, he turns to kyle. "this isn't anything like," he butts a player's head away with the handle of his sword, "cadets!"

The new DLC launches and Stormy is the first of many to see it. With the massive data leak, the player-base had dropped significantly. It seemed, however, that the news of free DLC rather than the original plan to pay extra for it had brought players back to the fray.[break][break]

Of course, that wonderful moment is short-lived as soon as the players turn hostile and zombie-like. What should have been an incredible, awe-inspiring moment to step foot in the fairy-type kingdom turns into a nightmare.[break][break]

Stormy had meant to peek in only for a short while and then take a second to relieve herself. She'd made a big dinner and seriously, seriously should have gone to the bathroom before this because the pause menu is gone and the log-out option is gone and she's floored.[break][break]

"Oh.. my fucking god. No."[break][break]

Somehow, in the crowd, Stormy manages to spot kyle lopez's avatar and an avatar that looks identical to Kyle who she can only assume might be noah faber. For that she's taken aback a second time because wow, that's weird. But she rushes to join them, quickly adding her own fire-power to theirs in order to drive back the horde of bizarre players that had suddenly turned rogue and begun attacking them.[break][break]

An INFERNO burns hotter than hell nearby and she notices Alexei Ivanov taking charge of the situation his own way. She's thankful, but she starts to pick away at the enemies should they close in on them. In fact, she physically ERUPTS, flames pouring from her hands as she pours hot lava all over the monsters in front of her, careful to arch her shot and stand far enough away from her comrades.[break][break]

It's not like she was trying to team kill.[break][break]

"We need to make this quick. Like.. as quick as possible. Quicker."[break][break]

THE PARTY DEFENDS AGAINST THE INVADING ARMY. as poison, electricity and flame stave off the initial waves of attackers, the sounds of falling players surround them like an intensifying ripple of white noise. a further layer of violent orchestration whistles ahead in the distorted notes of spellcasting and arrows.[break][break]

however, the bridge remains strong. several players attempt to pull the drawbridge, but are swiftly assassinated by rogues. the bridge slams back onto the stone stretch as the skull knight proceeds forth on their horse. as the menacing knight advances, it emits a DARK PULSE that expands across the map.[break][break]

the umbral wave hits everyone- but the shock does not come from the minimal damage they receive. instead, everyone will realize their PAIN IS NOT SUBDUED any longer. thanks to their buffs, Kaida Adachi and @iris will suffer no damage at all and subsequently, no pain.[break][break]

perhaps, the attack is a message. a threat of a terrible end, despite the falsified reality.[break][break]

thankfully, the party's previous attacks have provided them with enough time to retreat. those most keen will be able to see that above, on the armaments, hacked rangers are readying their bows. suddenly, the sky darkens with their arrows.[break][break]

the gates are breached and promptly torn down. make your escape into the inner ward and dodge the incoming flurry of arrows, or risk being run down. ahead, the inner ward is a labyrinth of alleyways with high roofs: a claustrophobic maze to toy with prey in.[break][break]

She was-- no, she is the best mage in the server with the highest DPS output. Sure, the pinkette never bothered to check the stats... But, well, could anyone convince her otherwise once she had set her mind on something?
[break]It might as well be considered a fact from here on out.

The mage would be lying if she said that the introduction of a fairy-themed kingdom meant much to her, but, she assumed new missions and achievements were added along with it. Maybe the percentage of pulling the Honedge out was adjusted too. Not that she still cared much for it, but still. It'd be nice to hear that the developers listened to the players.

Today, however? She misses a whole lot of context, entering the castle to see masses of players fighting each other. It was her style of event. Finally. The Dark Pulse washed over the defenders, Kaida blinked as distinct pain showed itself on her allies. That wasn't supposed to happen, was it? Her own HP refused to drop, something she was glad to see...then something she wasn't so glad to see: a rain of arrows nearly blocking the sky. "Hey! Run!" She screamed over the approaching army's din. [break][break]

The arrows only fell closer, and she activated Coil one last time, her wound up body suddenly exploding into a sprint as she ran towards the labyrinthine streets. There, the army would be forced to engage them in smaller numbers and, with her Rouge status, she expected to be able to run circles around them...as long as she didn't take an arrow to the leg... [break][break]

As Rikiya feels the Dark Pulse rip across the field, he feels something wrong. Pain, as if it's real. Rikiya winced and grunted as he felt the pain. "Motherfucking bitch!", the mage shouted in response to the pain.

But there was no time for that, as he'd spot the rain of arrows coming down towards them, coming from the hacked Rangers. "Fucking shit!", Rikiya shouted, as he made his way to the inner ward as quickly as he could, intent on not taking an arrow.

"If I hear a shitty 'arrow to the knee' joke...", Rikiya mumbled, as he desperately tried to race the rain of arrows coming towards them.
