Cillian Quinn hears the deliveries, just like Chu-e can occasionally hear the muffled but loud 'I'm home!' from Tempest occasionally. Can see canine shapes lingering behind fences. It's uncomfortable to be perceived.[break][break]

"My schedule is pretty stable. Walsh doesn't usually put me on missions." Chu-e was too fragile for that kind of heavy duty. A skill Trainer he might be, but that wouldn't stop a lot of things out on a mission. Hell, this was the most stable his duties in Rocket had ever been. If he wasn't playing with poisons and routinely ripping people's skin off, it could almost pass for a 9-5.[break][break]

So, most nights left him at home alone. Curled up with his cats, the TV, and bad takeout.[break][break]

But, then again, the kitchen had been....[break][break]

Following after the other, the world goes from sterile white to dusty black. The ancient dirt looming in the air catches in their nose, making Chu-e scrunch up their face before letting out a massive sneeze. It echoes down the ancient hallways.[break][break]

The whole place is a creep-show. Chu-e shakes their head and tries to lead the charge between them. It's not to disrespect the other; Chu-e is just used to being in leadership positions.[break][break]

Fen points down a dark corridor, much the same as the rest, and Chu-e shrugs in reply. A quick Sure is given before they turn that way.[break][break]

After a few steps, Chu-e would suddenly pause. Knitting their brow, they looked deep into the darkness... an almost oppressive force seeming to stare out of it at the two of them.

Chu-e grinned behind their hand some, eyes sparkling with mischief when they tried to catch Sailor de Laurierwylle's gaze. howard slayte was absolutely not going on a date with Chu-e. Chu-e had just asked BARNABY FINCH if they could deliver the expense reports to the Admin's office. It could technically even wait till tomorrow, but Chu-e liked to harass the one-eyed man when he was tired and frustrated after a long day of paperwork.[break][break]

Sprinkles stepped into the shop on delicate paws beside Chu-e; only to quickly be scooped up in her trainer's arm.[break][break]

"The strawberry cakepop was really good last time we were here." Was casually suggested to the other. Chu-e eyed some sugar and pineapple monstrosity with interest. In the end they would pass on anything solid; eating in unfamiliar places was always a special kind of risk with their allergies.

The spell is broken after a moment. Chu-e brushes the cream onto a napkin, the evidence wiped away neatly.[break][break]

"Don't apologize. It's cute."[break][break]

The second bit leaves him unbidden. Inside, Chu-e wraps the chains around his struggling heart and squeezes. Outside, he tries to keep the friendly and calm facade. As if it was normal to just casually admit such things.[break][break]

"I was really sick and really weak. I had to stay in the hospital for a long time. Relearn to use limbs, get liquids pumped into my veins... I'll never be the same, I think." The diagnosis still hangs heavy over his head. The promise of his mind failing before his body. Losing everything he was a shadow that lingered behind him.

His contacts had lost touch with them.[break][break]

Eris Halla vanished. Isaac Merlo missing. Cillian Quinn and his husband leaving the dogs out for days. jayden cross and his little toy (fern delaney) gone. howard slayte not answering his booty calls. Chu-e's network had failed him in a way that was proving to be... unnatural.[break][break]

So Chu-e goes to work himself.[break][break]

The Gym Leader's presence surprises him. Chu-e doesn't know if lam logan is just doing his civic duty or has a personal stake in this. Regardless, he places himself closer to the man than the others in their party. Maybe he could get some sort of information out of him.[break][break]

"Yeah. This feels like a dead end." Agreeable, pleasant, a touch of sadness. The perfect color a voice should hold for this situation. "I'm really worried about my daughter. This all feels like going in circles...."

"Then act like it." jayden cross's voice is frigid. Chu-e's take on a similar quality, dismissive and icy.[break][break]

Jayden's grip on that frail wrist tightens. Something grinds inside yet Chu-e does not flinch.[break][break]

"I did- do- care for you." Pushed out, rough, aggressive, defensive. But Chu-e back down, puts away the proverbial fangs. Softens his voice in his own, half version of affection and pity. Watches Jayden with an unshielded sadness in blue eyes. "But look what it did to you."[break][break]

There is a pop followed by a loud click.[break][break]

Chu-e's wrist limps in Jayden's grip. He only flinches lightly, eye twitching as he shifts a bit in his seat. As if a dislocation was akin to a small pinch at worst.[break][break]

Doesn't say anything else, only waits for Jayden to realize what he's done.

And then, all at once.[break][break]

Chu-e was not just pissing, but pissing on a man.[break][break]

Shock shows clear on his face when tavish rose rises like some bog witch from the bush. He has the wherewithal to take a shocked step back, halt the stream and try to cram himself back into his pants.[break][break]

Yeah, I kind of deserve this. is what crosses his mind as a fist slams into his already bruised face. He was still healing from the number than Michael Navidson had done to him, but now the tender skin would be freshly blemished.[break][break]

Chu-e is fragile and weak physically. The force from the crack of fist on flesh knocks him square off his feet, having him unelegently stumble backwards and into the roots of a tree. A lesser man would have cried out, but Chu-e stays silent from the abuse and only blinks to try and clear his now-fuzzy vision. A hand raises to rub his throbbing cheek.[break][break]

"People have paid for that before, asshole!" Is lisped out, his teeth sore, as he claws for a Love Ball on his hip. A fluffy and elegant Meowth, pink in coloration and with a frilly bow tied around her neck, is what pops out. The feline glances around before instantly arching her back in the imitation of a Halloween decoration, spitting and hissing.

Slowly, Chu-e pushed himself to his feet. A delicate tip toe to open a cabinet, a round laundry basket pulled down. Sat at howard slayte's feet, Chu-e takes the wet clothes from the other with a surprising gentleness. [break][break]

"People don't care what children are, gemstone. Only what they can make them into." [break][break]

The Rotom helpfully tilts itself, spilling the contents into the basket. Chu-e pulls it to his chest and stands. His words are almost lost in the hum-drum normalcy of the act.[break][break]

"I have a dry line outside. Come on, before the sun moves." Without waiting for the other, Chu-e turns to make his way elsewhere in his home.

"The people who mattered always knew what I was." The cryptic answer is said flatly, but there is a flicker of sadness that crosses Chu-e's face for just a moment. As always, it is quickly snapped back to be swept under fake smiles and exaggerated body language. [break][break]

"You shouldn't be so willing to bend over backwards for people. I'd hate to see you end up like Cillian Quinn, THEO BECKETT, myself, countless others..." A flick of the hand as he recounted Kanto. A distant memory he wished he could forget. [break][break]

The Rotom suddenly blinked to life, eyes widening and smirk taking it's sleepy features over. It let out a shrill BEEEEEEEEP to signal the end of the cycle, wet clothes coming to a halt. Chu-e didn't flinch at the sudden noise, only glanced over at the pokemon briefly. [break][break]

Unlike Tempest's unruly TV, this Rotom flung it's door open and awaited howard slayte. Sprinkles butted against his legs, standing to run cat fur against his pants.

"Yeah." A pause. Sprinkles purring got harder, fluffy cheeks pushing closer against Howard's fingers. Soft orange fur would feel like silk between the fingers. [break][break]

Tilting his head, Chu-e rested his good cheek against his palm. His gaze didn't waver as he took the other man in. Flat and apathetic even as a curiosity swirled deep within him.[break][break]

Chu-e only gave a small hum of affirmation, eyes still not leaving the swirling machine as it worked.[break][break]

"Michael Navidson punched me." The sooner that seed was planted the better. A truth twisted, as Chu-e was want to do.[break][break]

Sprinkles sat down by Howard's feet, tail wrapping around her paws for maximum cuteness. She didn't mew, only stared with that coy look that cats liked to have on their faces. A small rumbling purr started in her chest before she leaned over to try and rub her cheek against the Admin's leg.[break][break]

Chu-e blinked, then seemed to snap out of whatever self-inflicted trance he had been in. Sitting up with a heavy sigh, blue eyes flicked over to gaze at howard slayte. It was guarded, as per usual, but cogs were clearly turning behind the surface.[break][break]

"What happened out there?"

The house would have certainly been cleaner than the last time howard slayte was here.[break][break]

No mountain of empty bottles and half eaten bags of take out. There was still a mildly stale scent clinging to the air in Chu-e's home. The ROTO-WASH sat with it's eyes closed, content to cycle Howard's dirty underwear. Shame there wasn't a matching dryer.[break][break]

"It's no problem." Perched on a wooden chair, Chu-e stared absently at the spinning clothes in the machine. He was neat and pressed, if a bit dressed down. Nothing flashy today; just an old and stained band T-Shirt three sizes too big and a pair of ugly plaid sleep pants.[break][break]

A bruise, mottled in greens and yellows and purples, took up most of his face. A bandage stretched across his face, to help set the broken nose still healing.[break][break]

"Do you want anything to drink?"[break][break]

Behind Howard, a bell tinkles. A Skitty, small and orange, peers up at him with tail held high. A fancy collar denotes her as "Sprinkles'.
