[break][break] it isn't. there are plenty of things that jayden has been afraid of. but never fern delaney, not like this.

[break][break] and the fact that fern delaney would even think that he would rather lie to them then say the truth is -

[break][break] but even as he says it, a small part of him rings out, sinister and awful.

[break][break] 'what if they are speaking the truth?'

[break][break] "i would never let that happen," he says instead, brow furrowed. he and chien pao were the same, they were one, but that meant that he was even more impassioned to make sure that nothing would happen to them. why couldn't they understand? "you are anything but useless to me."

[break][break] plates clatter on the table, curry splashing, but jayden didn't see. all he could see was the pain and grief that pierced through fern delaney's gaze, and the world that spun around him. panic closed around his throat, staring into the depths of that teal-colored gaze.

[break][break] caught in the chaos of the cursed's devastating BLIZZARD STORM, Josh Devlin was struck with the same distorted feelings that had once caused jayden cross to unleash himself upon Caleb Harcourt, despite common sense that had warred against it.

[break][break] bright eyes followed the sight of mauville's gym leader atop his own beast — not of ruin, but borne from the ashes of the fallen. the wind that whipped around jayden was alive with malice, its howl not just from the hatred stripped from his enemies, but from the cries of a million fallen soldiers wrapped around his revenged blade.

[break][break] and as the ash raikou charged towards the ruined beast with lightning speed, chien pao turned and pinned the lesser creature with his hateful vengeance, yowling forth with a power charged from its dead soldiers. [break] the earth groaned, trembling beneath of the force of that unholy cry. stone blades rippled through the air towards the trevenant's splintered branches, carving into it's injured form. already brittle, its body faltered under the deadly cold whirlwind that was radiating from its trainer, forcing the pokemon to collapse with a sickening snap. impaled, just as the exeggutor had been — crushed, as one is, in the destruction of war.

[break][break] but with one tortured soul must come another, and it is with such horror that a song PERISHES through the frozen air, beckoning for all combatants around jayden cross with a mournful echo. the icy ground twisted beneath jayden's feet as he moved, gliding forward as though it were merely an extension of his own destructive will. the icy dual blades in hands shimmered with lethal intent, wintry eyes dark and hollow, as he slammed his weapon straight for PETRA MONROE's heart.

shadows thickened, clinging to the air like a suffocating fog, as a wave of biting cold

[break][break] it didn't matter how much they fought back, how furiously they might try to burn away the cold. winter's ruination would always succeed, devouring any flickering flame.

[break][break] as the X-SCISSOR and PSYCHIC converged into a singular attack in one blinding blast, a distorted wail tore from the mutated tree. it forced the shadowy tendrils to writhe and recede, but by then, it was already too late. even as the trevenant stumbled back, a sinister web of shadowy vines snaked forward through the darkness, sealing all those close to it in an unbreakable DESTINY BOND.

[break][break] and as the two humans were distracted, an unnatural, bone-chilling frost descended, more vicious than any kind of earthly frost.

[break][break] without warning, a searing flash of blue split the sky and a storm of ICY BLADES plumetted down from above, mercilessly crashing down toward PETRA MONROE and her pokemon. but despite that, it was in the eye of that freezing whirlwind was the most terrifying thing of all — twin pools of hollow blue gleamed. it was the same familiar cold and soulless glow that Josh Devlin would recognize with a deep, unsettling dread.
