Curt is the response that Ryuuzaki holds for Cillian Quinn's mantra, lacklustre in its own belief as he blindly allows the leader to speak. After all, he doesn't always have to follow the views of the organisation and he's proven it time and time again through his antics in Kanto. Arceus knows how he's survived so long despite it all.

But that wasn't the main focus here, was it?

So they hadn't met in the best of places - The headquarters of Team Rocket had been the last place he had wanted Chu-e Choi to be in. That's okay. They hadn't met in years either. Still arguably acceptable. But to be so shaken that he's literally losing his lunch?

Ryuuzaki can't help but squint at the volatile reaction, a hint of concern flashing through his eyes before vanishing into the void. What about his presence makes the underboss uncomfortable? The fact that he's a fragment of the past left behind? The fact that Chu-e stands before him as a killer? Or the fact that Ryuuzaki shouldn't be here at all?

His lips part open and shut just seconds after, a multitude of thoughts crossing his mind as he watches how the blonde immediately comforts the quaking man. At the very least, he's in supportive company - That's a point that he can thank Arceus for, right? He wants to take a step towards Chu-e but his feet do not cooperate, his hands idly plucking at his sleeves as he watches his friend from a distance. Sensing the discomfort he radiates, Skadi is up and by his side, gently snaking between his legs as she rests her cheeks against his calf.

"Well, that wasn't the reaction I was hoping for."

Then, what was? A brief moment of shock followed by a smile? A daring hug perhaps? Even an insult to his face would have been better than having to watch this. His voice is quiet, his personality now seemingly subdued as he shifts from one foot to another, a long inhale leading into a sigh as confusion melts into the cesspool of indistinct emotions.

"Rangers, huh? Someone else told me that I should join them... I think he called himself Matias. Said I could help out with my skills or something." At the mention of that organisation again, Ryuuzaki hums at how small the world could possibly be. "Nice guy, almost electrocuted my Buizel though."

Glancing over the identification Chloe flashes, he notes how she lightens up with the quick switch away from the topic of Kanto. Understandably so, considering all that has transpired in that ravaged region. For a moment, there is a devilish thought that crosses his mind, a slithering serpent that whispers in his ears and poisons his heart - How exactly would she react if she knew how he had been involved? Would she attempt to fight him and get him arrested? Or would she crumble in the face of despair?

Break them. Though they've separated since the early years of his induction, THEO BECKETT's words still ring loud in his ears, the memories of a silver knife dangling right before his eyes as the emotions begin to swell. And all of a sudden, it stops, dissipating with a chilly breath up his sleeve as Skadi tugs at the fabric.

"About... 2 years or so?" He answers, his eyes flicking towards the moon as he remembers how he used to chart the stars when he had been younger. "I haven't actually been keeping track of the time. It goes by really fast when you're wrangling a whole bunch of feisty pokemons and sickly wild ones every day, you know? And that reminds me, I've got to help the Lilycove Daycare check up on their lil' ones tomorrow... Oh Arceus."

Perhaps, he should have given it a little more thought before accepting the assignments that had been tossed onto his desk.

"Anyways, it was real nice meeting ya, Chloe. I've gotta go so I don't burn out tomorrow morning. Who knows, maybe we'll cross paths again someday?"

Hold your breath, grit your teeth and count to ten. It's almost like a ritual he defers to when in need of a moment, silencing any strain of thought and dulling his emotions before it can possibly peak. There is familiarity that comes with the sighting of the brunette, a cold sense of dread creeping up his spine as he briefly considers the possibilities. Right, he does recall being told about her ranger duties whilst they'd gone around searching for loose pokemon on a haunted ship...

Never let emotions or personal ties get in the way of your mission. It's a rule that has been chiselled into his flesh dozen of times, the scars on his back still aching despite the years that have passed. Of course, Ryuuzaki wouldn't be called a troublemaker if he hasn't broken that rule once... twice... maybe a few couple times but hey, at least he had good reason to each time - The crusade for control had never quite been enough for him to take lives where necessary.

Either way, there is a weight that settles in his chest as he watches Killian slip away into some secret hole in the wall, his mind already acknowledging the change in authority even as his eyes turn towards the cavern walls. Water drips from the stalactites up above, the sound of them crashing into the ground echoing through the hollow space.

'There's going to be an opening not too far ahead, some sort of space that's wider than this tunnel.' His notes reach Suzume Amemiya first, the odd change in tone between the individual splashes keeping him right on his toes. 'The walls don't quite seem right either.' He adds, cautiously running a finger against the nearest wall. While it is mostly smooth, there are odd scratches and engravings that don't quite seem to fit the natural formation of a cave, faded splashes of red and blues melting into the abundance of moss.

He stands there and takes her hit with a mouthful of laughter, cautiously turning his head to the side as if trying to cough into his sleeves. "Your Spearow doesn't seem to mind. And I'm just letting you know of the possibilities in this world. After all, the chances may be slim but never zero~" Though uncertain if the way she retorts so easily is actually a result of his own doing, Ryuuzaki never misses the chance to return to that goofy dumbass from so many years back.

In a sense, he feels relief when he sees that rare spark of life in her eyes, indulges in her little tantrums with the serenity of an elderly man minus the walking stick and the lawn. While he knows that he has yet to undo the knots that tie her to the underground, there's just something about this genuine moment of peaceful idyllism in their life that he wants to hold onto forever.

So he has Killian Decker's attention. As far as Ryuuzaki considers it, it's an absolute win on his part - Not only does he get to mess with authoritative figureheads, he is given a chance to peer right into the mental state of the man. With how worn out and rather high strung he seems, there's something more than just a lover's quibble going on between Killian and Alexandra. Ah, but nothing draws him in more than the hostility that burns in the admin's eyes, a mischievous glint flicking through his own as Ryuuzaki quietly brushes the hand away.

'Sure thing, chief.'

After all the hell that THEO BECKETT's put him through, even if looks could kill, Killian is gonna have to try a lot harder than that.

But now is not the time to retaliate, he notes, his fingers tapping against his palm as he lowers his sleeves. To Killian and Alexandra, he's simply biding his time, readjusting his clothes as if attempting to purge some sort of curse placed upon his shoulder and offering his sister some sort of light-hearted grin.

Can't please everyone, he seems to signal. But to Suzume Amemiya, she may see something completely different - Crimson orbs glinting with a desperate yearn for blood, sharpened knives carefully tucked back up his sleeves. Danger lurks in the smile he bears but it's quickly extinguished in favour of observing the two strangers up ahead.

League personnel. As if there would actually be anyone else privy to the knowledge of a secret entrance.

There's a flaw that seems to exist in Killian's vague instructions but Ryuuzaki holds his tongue and simply follows. After all, he doesn't quite wish to ruin the rookie admin's debut, does he now?

There are times when he forgets everything that's ever happened, times when he no longer feels the burn of raw flesh or drowning sensation in his chest. Many times when he finds this peace of mind, he finds it in the presence of her - Suzume Amemiya, the one who's received his promises and the only one whose existence he shall damn himself for.

"Only six? Perhaps, the hunger is dulling your senses." He jests, ruffling her hair. "Or maybe, you're just too short to see the ones above us." Mischief colours his words with a life rarely seen, his eyes flicking to the skies as he eyes the numerous Wingulls that swarm overhead. "Still, sand is better than dirt and insects. Imagine those little wrigglers and bugs creeping up your sleeves... into your food... Extra protein, am I right?"

When was the last time that they'd gotten a chance to let loose like this? Between the shelves of manila files and metallic contraptions, chances to spend time together had been rare and few in between. But now that he has her so close, now that he's been given the chance to remain by her side and offer the helping hand he's never been able to give...

"This should be a good enough." Up ahead, Skadi barks with impatience, angrily kneading the ground as she struts around the chosen spot - Tucked under the canopies of swaying palm trees, shying away from the harshness of the sun. Laying the mat down, Ryuuzaki calls out his Buizel and Lapras, watching as they dive into the ocean like fish to water.

"Alright then, shortstacks. Feel free to dig in before you lose your meal to the birds."

Until then, he gracefully acknowledges with a soft tilt of his head. The words Matias speaks are ones that ring very true, the encounters he's had this entire week pointing to the movements of a force lurking deep beneath the surface. But he fails to mention it, instead allowing the man to continue speaking over his thoughts. There's no need to involve outsiders just yet.

"Eld." Even if he's caught up in the lull of stagnant life, Ryuuzaki doesn’t quite miss the odd new presence of writhing tentacles upon the riverbank, his left arm subconsciously gripping onto his sleeves as the Buizel moves to answer. Keeping his hands together, Eld begins to create a swirling torrent, his fangs bared as he throws his creation straight into the water, catching the culprit in an unrelenting Whirlpool.

With a dulled wince, Ryuuzaki tosses a pokeball into the mix, noting the colour of the Frillish with mild interest.

Since young, he has always held reservations about interfering with his sister's decisions. She is strong enough to handle herself, capable of many things and most definitely not one to yield to anyone. At least, that was the sister he had once held in his heart. Ignorance had led him to believe that she would be fine without him, ignorance had led him to believe that she would not be chained. And yet, for one who bears a name so free, she's trapped in a golden bird cage.

He's never lacked self-restraint when the time calls for it but when Suzume is threatened before him, the serpent that lurks beneath the surface poises to strike. He moves silently, his fingers snaring the collar of his enemy as the glint of a cold-blooded murderer ripples through him.

"Do not taint her name."

Lost is the meaning of mentor in Ryuuzaki's eyes, a brilliant crimson cross painted over the face of yet another target as his blade sits snug against the jugular. He knows the spots where it hurts worst, the scars that litter his body are proof that he has learnt. There is silence that falls between them, an endless void that swirls beneath his gaze as he looks THEO BECKETT right in the eyes.

Then, remembrance - His grip loosens as he slides the knife back into his sleeves. While there exists scores to be settled, his priority here isn't the dispatching of sinners.

Not whilst Suzume watches.

Instead, he closes his eyes, taking a deep breath before turning to face her. She deserves none of the hate, has no need to see the broken pieces of a man she calls her brother.

"Coddling you is telling you that it's okay to be afraid and letting you go with that man just because you're afraid of the pain he inflicts upon you." His voice is quiet, but his words strike hard nonetheless. Though he catches the glimmer of a promise in her eyes, he holds no intent of letting her burn any longer.

"Think a little harder, Suzume. You know better than anyone that the words you speak are not your own."

When you submit yourself to fear, you have effectively died.

That is a phrase that Ryuuzaki lives his life by and it's proven to be true thus far. He's caught more incidents of failure and seen more blood being spilled unnecessarily when the person in charge can't quite keep their head on straight. And in turn, he has developed apathy towards the higher ups, placed further trust in himself and refused their orders on many occasions - In some parts of Rocket, he's known as a troublemaker. In others, he's known as the stupid lone wolf. In most cases, he's been known to work on his own and yet, he's never quite failed to produce results.

Perhaps, it's that: The possibility of failure that looms over them, the pressure of performance that sits heavy on their chest. Recognition of Killian Decker's position comes with a duty to execute things flawlessly, the telepathic channel only solidifying Ryuuzaki's theory as he listens in to the instructions. From the way Killian speaks to Alexandra Briarwood, he can safely assume that the duo has a modus operandi to fall back upon. One less problem to deal with, he supposes.

When Suzume Amemiya glances at him, he can't quite help but stick his tongue out at her, burying his laughter into his sleeves as he turns his attention back to the roaring waterfall and the darkness that churns at its feet.

'What's with the atmosphere? Y'all look like you're heading to some sort of funeral. Lighten up, relax. Anxiety and overthinking it will only cause you to lock up when it matters.'

Whether it's considered rude, Ryuuzaki knows that neither Killian nor Alexandra can afford to raise a hand against him if they wish to preserve their element of surprise. He watches them closely for any reactions, instinctively taking point as they draw closer to their destination.

Amemiya. Amemiya. No matter how much time has passed, Ryuuzaki can never brush off the disgust he has for their family name being spoken by such a tongue. His ire is clear in the glare he gives, the venom he has kept under his tongue as he lets go of Suzume.

"Evidently not, Beckett." He spits, every consonant of his name emphasised with such hatred for the man and his entire being. "You've had two years. A day means nothing in the face of that." Unlike Suzume, Ryuuzaki holds no fear of pain or death, no patience for a man who far outdates his time.

"Old Rocket is no more. She's not a tool to be used." He knows of the horrors she's faced, has far too wide of a reach within the underground to be oblivious to the atrocity that is THEO BECKETT. In the wake of Suzume's discomfort, he quivers, chained by the remnants of guilt he can't let go - He had failed her one too many times in life; Once as he lay in his childhood bed, haunted by the blood dripping down her neck. Once when he failed to get her to leave Rocket, watching as she tangled herself in the spider's web. Once when he sees how far Theo has chip at her weaknesses, leashing her with pain and willing to drag her half-dead corpse around.

"Do not apologise for mistakes you haven't made." Though bitter and harsh, there is outrage in his snarl, one that cries for the stubborn girl he once knew and the broken shell that she's become. "If it's matters of settling down that she needs to attend to, then I will be the one to show her the way." Despite any of her protests, Ryuuzaki is firm in his grip, pulling her behind him as defiance burns aglow. "I didn't allow you to run off with her training for you to teach her overreliance and cowardice, Beckett."

"It's not rude to laugh. Getting to catch any pokemon by pure luck is a rare occurrence." While she's quiet about it, Ryuuzaki knows that Chloe is probably laughing on the inside in some form. Instead of finding it offensive, he welcomes the mockery, needing more ways to start a conversation with her. "More so when I'm the one attempting it. Right, Skadi?"

The Glaceon looks at him with such muted disappointment, a low growl rumbling from her throat before she huffs and turns away from his mess. Typical of her to not want being roped into his self-deprecation. Shrugging, Ryuuzaki merely ruffles her fur, scratching behind her ear as he looks back into the silent waters. "Most trainers like to weaken them before capture. I used to when I was younger but after working in Kanto…"

There is a slight pause that follows his words, his gaze unfocused as he sinks into a well of dark memories. "Well, let's just say I like to gamble with fate more than I like to actually throw hands with these kids." Pulling himself back to the present requires a gentle nudge from Skadi, a brief spark of concern melting into mild annoyance when she confirms that she has his attention. "Anyways, I'm from Sinnoh. Currently working as a veterinarian in Lilycove."

When he spots movement in the water once more, he throws out a pokeball of his own, summoning a rather excitable Lapras as she happily splashes water at him. "Heya, Lily. Mind helping me out?" The instructions are vague but she complies with a nod, singing to the Relicanth that hovers nearby. Then, when it's finally asleep, he throws out a spare pokeball in hopes of it working this time around.
