Being into it is certainly one way of putting things. In fact, Luka's just doing her best to keep it together. She can't get hysterical— those girls always die first in horror movies. She needs to keep her wits about her.[break][break]

A hard sell for someone who barely has two braincells to rub together, but at least she's trying![break][break]

So while she squeezes Eris Halla's hand a little tighter when an eerie voice crackles to life, she doesn't scream. The tiny, frightened gasp that escapes her lips goes unheard over the commotion.[break][break]

In contrast, Lychee lets out a static-y cackle of delight as the voicebox echoes around the room. They zip around gleefully, bathing the appliances in the breakroom in their neon pink glow. The little ghost zips into drawers and appliances, rattling spoons and coffee mugs behind cabinet doors. It remains to be seen if their investigation turns anything up before Luka finally decides to recall them.[break][break]

She adores them, truly. But right now, she doesn't want to risk the little troublemaker getting into anymore mischief.[break][break]

"This is so creepy," Luka says to no-one in particular. "But I don't get what Rocket has to do with it..." Perhaps they could have angered a ghost? Or...created one? That tracks. "D-do you really think we should move on so fast, though? I mean, um! There's, like. M-more to look at, I'm sure!"

The breakroom is creepy but at least it's a bit familiar; soft couches and softly humming appliances are a safer bet than whatever could be lurking amidst the museum's displays. Alas, she seems to be immediately outvoted as the group chooses to move on.[break][break]

This time she summons her candy-pink mareep to take point. The orange bauble on the tip of her tail provides an ambient glow for the group as they make their way to the aerospace exhibit. Frankly, the literal interpretation of a rocket hadn't occurred to her— thomas nightingale must be far cleverer than she. Or perhaps he was joking. It goes right over her head either way.[break][break]

When they arrive at the exhibit, Luka and Candy Floss keep an eye out for any displays involving rockets or related technology. Ship models, diagrams...anything could be related, really, so long as their hunch is actually correct. When they reach a model of a rocketship Luka hesitates, and briefly runs the tips of her fingers over brightly painted chrome.[break][break]

"I dunno..." she mutters, snatching back her hand just as quickly, "W-why would a ghost be interested in space anyways? Can't they just fly around wherever they like?"[break][break]

Lulu. Luka. She might have laughed if there was room for anything other than growing terror in the pit of her stomach.[break][break]

And it does make sense- her face is plastered all over Hoenn. What's more mysterious is how she knows what Luka had seen in the Cloud, and why Darkrai would be interested in her at all. The version she had met there had been holographic, false. But if the Nightmare Pokemon can detect, even slightly, the artifact tucked around her neck...[break][break]

She'd like to believe that a mythical Pokemon, even one apparently sided with Rocket, might remain neutral on most matters. It's the woman tied to them that she knows she can't trust.[break][break]

"Ummm..."[break][break]

She chooses her words carefully, sounding them out in her head before they leave her throat. Lying to this woman feels like a very dangerous mistake, but so does telling her the truth. Dealing with rockets is a treacherous game.[break][break]

"I'm not sure what you mean. I...admire her." Not a lie. "I only saw her once in Hoenn...a while ago." Not a lie. "But I wouldn't say I'm tied to her."[break][break]

The last isn't a lie, not entirely. Perhaps she might have bonded herself to the celestial that she'd met in another universe with Martín del Mar, but is that enough to link her to the one that exists here? Was her sacrifice back then even enough to consider them linked at all? Luka has never considered herself very important— as transient as a flower petal drifting on the breeze. It's never occurred to her that the lunar wing they'd parted with could be considered as anything more than a gift.[break][break]

But rather than elaborate, Luka poses a question of her own.[break][break]

"Y-you must be tied to Darkrai in some way then, right?" It's an easy enough conjecture. "And they and Cresselia...are connected too. S-so why do you need me anyways?"

In her bones. That kind of conviction is a tall order.[break][break]
Luka has never really known anything with certainty. And she rarely trusts herself. Her instincts are often wrong and her thoughts flit from place to place like butterflies that never settle. In her own way, she's trying to follow things through, but she has no idea where to begin.[break][break]

It's frustrating. It makes her feel so helpless. But the hunger with which Illeana had regarded her mythological textbooks makes Luka think the other woman can relate to her own insatiability.[break][break]

"No, um..." Teeth sink into her bottom lip and she tastes cherry lip balm. "It was, like..."[break][break]

Her trust is not difficult to win— that isn't the issue. Luka's only reluctant to explain the situation to Illeana because she herself can hardly parse what had happened. To an outsider, she might sound insane.[break][break]

"To be honest, I'm really not sure where it was. I mean...um. There's an island in some of the myths I've read, and that might be it. But I don't think...I mean. It wasn't in our world," she summarizes feebly. "Sorry...that doesn't make much sense, does it?"

Luka comes to a sudden halt, staring at the other woman like a Deerling in headlights. The hairs on the back of her neck stand on edge and her movements are stilted, tense. Fight or flight settles deep in her bones but, conflicted, threatens to simply tear her in twain.[break][break]

Dream mist rises to obscure her form, masking her in a pinkish haze. But Luka doesn't attempt to flee, not yet.[break][break]

For as much as this woman frightens her, she's fascinated in equal measure. The Darkrai that the Rocket wields makes up half of the Lunar Duo, after all. It's her closet connection to Cresselia, barring the lunar wing hidden under her blouse.[break][break]

"How do you know my—" She swallows, mouth dry. "I-I'm sorry, I don't think I ever caught your name."

Character: Luka Chene

Day 1- Intro
Luka Chene is a young woman who came to Hoenn from Kalos! She's sweet and bubbly, if a bit air-headed, and is always doing her best to spread joy and love to those around her. A hopeless romantic with a bittersweet past, she can be found with her head in the clouds more often than not, and her heart is full of daydreams.

Currently she is a PR representative for MATIAS SILPH and has recently started doing recruitment and advertising work for the Rangers. Despite everything she's been through during her stay in Hoenn, she hopes that in her own small way she can help to make the region a better and more peaceful place to live.

Day 2: Starter
Luka's first pokemon was a Munna! Due to her father's work in Interpol, their family moved around quite often when Luka was young. Plum was a gift from Luka's father when their family lived in Unova for a spell.

Although she was a polite and well-mannered child who never complained about her life being uprooted so often, Luka was often very lonely as a girl. Her friendships were often short lived because of how often her family moved, and she learned very quickly how to be charming and sweet to make people like her— though on a very surface level. She was never very close with anyone but her immediate family.

As such, she was a lonely little girl who developed sleeping troubles. Plum, therefore, was a gift to help her sleep and provide some companionship. The Munna, now Musharna, was one of Luka's dearest friends growing up, and she still treasures her as a precious family member to this day.

The only thing that could drag her into the city where she'd had her heart smashed to pieces is the obligation of work. Recruitment, more PR paperwork...it's all the same, really.[break][break]

But as soon as she hears the rumble of thunder, too close to have come from the heavens, she knows what's going on. Only now she feels too tired, too drained to do anything about it. At least she has a good excuse to reschedule her lunch meeting now, and hopefully next time one can be arranged closer to home.[break][break]

Hurried steps carry her through the unnatural gloom and errant, crackling light. On her way, she nearly trips over a shard— green, this time, and pockets it. There's a bit of dirt under her nails as she continues to flee, summoning her Altaria after a moment to quickly sweep her up, up, and away to safety.[break][break]

Luka's curry entry

thread summary: in the aftermath of the darkest day, luka and remiel have an altercation that changes the course of their relationship forever

(he tears her heart out and stomps it into little pieces on the floor)

why is it important?: who doesn't love a juicy breakup thread...

writing a relationship between two fundamentally different characters was always going to be difficult, and though we always knew that it wouldn't last between them it was exciting to see how things progressed and escalated past what oslo and i initially planned. of course that only made it more devastating since what was supposed to just be a fling turned into a full romance, oops!

it was great seeing remiel open up a little bit, only to slam the door back down as soon as he was called upon to be vulnerable. and luka's rejection has a very negative impact as well, driving her to be a bit more reckless as shown in cc, and generally challenging her naively optimistic worldview. sometimes negative character development is just as important as the positive!

also, i just really enjoyed writing this thread!! it was super emotionally charged and devastating, in the best way. even though the events of this thread had been plotted out and implied for a while, it took us a while to have the time to sit down and really hammer it out. and it was just as awfully juicy as i hoped!! seriously tho i'd like to thank Remiel Calcifet for dealing with me yelling about the drama all the time and insisting that we make it as painful as possible. im excited to see what else awaits these two characters...even though it's even more downhill from here hehe
