OC-TOBER
Character: Elisabeth Fiorelli
Day 1- Intro Born a minor noblewoman in Kalos, Elisabeth Fiorelli moved to Hoenn after suffering through a decade of an abusive marriage to a powerful Kalosian CEO, Édouard Bortiforte, who she quietly poisoned into an early grave. Having learned not to trust that the world will treat you kindly, she willingly joined the Rocket organisation as a way of ensuring nothing could ever hurt her in that way again.
Most of Hoenn knows her as a civilian florist that works from her cottage on the outskirts of Petalburg Woods. She and her Pokémon work the gardens of Fiorelli Floristry by day, while she secretly works as a Rocket admin by night.
Day 2: Starter Elisabeth's first Pokémon was a Wurmple named Daisy, who eventually evolved into a Beautifly.
She was supposed to get a more fitting Pokémon for a daughter of a noble house, but she rescued the Wurmple from the gardens because the servants were shooing them away for eating the leaves of the Galarian roses. She privately kept Daisy to herself, along with many other Wurmples, who then evolved one day into a bunch of butterflies in her closet to the shock and dismay of the maid tasked to clean the young girl's room. Daisy stayed behind to be with Elisabeth.
Elisabeth brought almost none of her Pokémon with her when she married into the Bortifortes, releasing most of them to live in the gardens that she had grown up in; she genuinely believed they'd be happier in Camphrier Town. She took Daisy with her, however.
One day, Elisabeth found her Beautifly taxidermied on the wall as punishment for behaving in a way that put the reputation of her in-laws to shame. She wouldn't get the privilege of having another Pokémon again until she received a Budew, who would eventually become her cherished Roselia, Primrose.
Day 3: Childhood Born the only child of loving, doting parents, Elisabeth had a golden childhood in Camphrier Town and wanted for nothing. She was a well-mannered, shy, and sheltered child, prone to losing herself in books as much as spending all her days outdoors gardening, climbing trees, or chasing Bug-type Pokémon in her father's vineyards.
In the countryside, however, she was fairly isolated and it was difficult to make friends. Most children her own age were family of staff, and that always affected the way they interacted with her. She was homeschooled by a governess, despite her mother's personal wishes for her to learn at a boarding school with other girls from upper class families.
The result was a naïve and idealistic young woman who believed in the good in people, and expected the world to be kinder than it was.
Day 4: Best Friend Friends are a luxury that Elisabeth has rarely enjoyed in her life, for various reasons. In her youth, it was the unfortunate isolation of the countryside. In her adult life and marriage, it was a seclusion engineered by a jealous and controlling spouse.
In Hoenn, that has changed. Two people at present share the title of her 'best friend,' for different reasons.
Georgette Bluebottle was Elisabeth's first friend in Hoenn. A Gym Leader that knows the secret vulnerability that lies underneath Elisabeth's composed persona, Gigi is a woman who has patiently tended to her friend's times of distress, and listened to what little the florist is willing to share about the life in Kalos that she left behind. She knows what scars plague Elisabeth better than most, even if she can only guess at some of their reasons. In Gigi, Elisabeth feels absolved for some of the evils that she has embraced in herself, even if her friend is unaware of how far the darkness in her goes.
Cillian Quinn is perhaps the person who knows the most of the darkest parts of Elisabeth. The underboss was the first person that Elisabeth willingly confessed to about poisoning her late husband, having bonded with the man over committing murder together for Rocket. She believes that Gavin, more than anyone in the world, understands the parts of herself that she is most ashamed of and that feel most unfamiliar to most of the world. He understands why she chose a life of shadows, and she's forever grateful to him for that understanding.
Day 5: Talent Gardening was Elisabeth's first love. She delighted in spending days in the outdoors, tending to her mother's Galarian rose garden. She and her mother would use the language of flowers to communicate sly, secret messages with one another. It spurred an interest in botany and plant physiology, one that her parents encouraged her to study at the collegiate level.
That dream was abruptly deferred and discarded after her marriage at nineteen, but her love of plants flourished nonetheless. The gardens of her husband's manor became her sole sanctuary, where she could lose herself for hours at a time in a task that made sense to her. It felt like being close to her family again, in some small way.
Her husband had always said she would have no trade to commend herself if she ever broke free of him. Spitefully, she poured that passion into her little flower shop in Petalburg. Despite it being a civilian front, she was determined to take it seriously and prove herself and her own competence. She needed to know she could exist on her own talents and merits.
Day 6: Favorite Pokemon Her favorite Pokemon is her Roselia, Primrose. She received her as a fussy crying Budew, back when she was unhappily married. It was an unexpected gift from a husband who rarely gave her a shred of independence, and Elisabeth treasured Prim as the one companion in her home that relied on her and trusted her completely.
Primrose is a very vain and very prissy creature. She gets wildly jealous if Elisabeth's attention is focused on others, whether they be people or Pokémon. When she's upset, petals whizz overhead like an angry storm cloud, forming a tiny PETAL BLIZZARD. She sulks when she doesn't get her way, and is often offended by perceived slights.
Elisabeth's Bellossom, Daffodil, is intimidated by Prim and generally tries to keep her soothed and happy. It is a very thankless task tending to such an easily wounded ego. A Roserade was briefly in Elisabeth's possession, but fights between the two flowery Pokémon resulted in the latter being gifted to ana fell for safekeeping.
Primrose's thorns will sometimes be clipped and macerated to form 'Devil's Breath' poison -- a toxic drug that has truth serum properties. She has privately sold this in the past to patrons such as @alexander.
Day 7: Free Space! Elisabeth's life left her very isolated and sheltered, particularly in her decade of marriage where friends were few and far between. The result is she often secretly wants to do things she perceives 'normal' people do and enjoy, something which embarrasses her deeply. It makes her excited about seemingly small, insignificant things, like celebrating festivals, or seeing the ocean again, or attending parties, or going to bars or clubs with coworkers. She is such a painfully lonely person at her deepest core, and things that make her feel like she belongs in some way are very precious to her. It's one reason I really enjoy slice-of-life threads with her: she's starting her life over, and making up for her lost time as best as she can.
Day 8: Pokémon Center The Camphrier Town Pokémon Center was a bit out of the way. Her family would avoid traveling there too often, so their Pokémon were more often regularly treated at home with their own poultices, salves, and potions. However, Elisabeth did like meeting the kind Nurse Joys and seeing the other Pokémon and trainers nearby when she visited.
Day 9: First Victory Pokemon battles were games that Elisabeth would practice as a child with her father. He loved games of strategy, like chess, and taught Elisabeth to use that sort of tactical thinking in her battles. They were casual and relaxed, and Elisabeth's delight the first time her Wurmple defeated her father's Pokémon was heady with giddiness. Had he been going easy on her? Undoubtedly, in retrospect. But he hadn't let her win initially, either. He was patient, teaching her to consider typing, when to use which move in battle, and how to respond to your opponent's decision-making.
Later, this thought process would prove essential on other battlefields, with Pokémon and people alike.
Day 10: Gym The only gym badge that Elisabeth has earned is from Georgette Bluebottle. She chose to challenge her friend in a traditional Pokémon battle after hearing she had taken over as the Mossdeep Gym Leader. Despite the Ice-type dominance of the Gym, Elisabeth chose to bring a Tsareena to battle, and this pleased Gigi immensely -- because doing so spoke to the concept of her gym at its core. Enduring.
Day 11: Region Elisabeth's feelings towards Kalos are complicated in nature. Her marriage to a high-profile figure made her, by default, a high-profile figure herself. Lacking her own agency in the confines of matrimony, the narrative spun about her was rarely kind in nature. Attempts at securing her own freedom would backfire spectacularly, and by the time she left Kalos for Hoenn, her reputation was in complete shambles.
Many in Kalos suspected she killed her husband, even though no proof arose to confirm those claims. Her mental health had been questioned for years in the aftermath of her attempting to blow the whistle on her husband's abusive behaviors to a journalist; instead, he spun the tale as her becoming hysterical and breaking under the duress of being a CEO's wife. Her childhood hometown believed she had destroyed her ancestral home and winery to appease her husband, when he had in fact seized her inheritance himself and made those choices without her input. When he died, she likewise destroyed the rising company he had spent his life building, which many in Kalos viewed as selfish, impulsive, and detrimental to Kalos's technological advancement as a whole.
The result is general bitterness towards Kalos as a region, for all of the structures and hierarchies that should have protected someone like her from someone like her husband failed.
Some of this bitterness and resentment silently colours her view of Hoenn's own leadership and elite, fairly or unfairly.
Day 12: Hometown Elisabeth grew up in the countryside outside Camphrier Town. Her family's barony was notable for its winery and vineyards, and her parents were well-regarded members of the community. Elisabeth herself is not welcome in Camphrier Town anymore, however. Citing poor mental health, her husband successfully seized her inheritance after her parents died, razing her childhood home to replace it with a satellite location for his business. Locals believe this decision was Elisabeth's, not his, and they are cold to her as a result for turning her back on her heritage. Many also believe the rumors that she killed her late husband, and treat her with disdain.
Day 13: Family Elisabeth was the only child of Francis and Georgiana Fiorelli. Francis was a kind-hearted and generous man who inherited a winery that he was passionate about, but poor at managing financially. As a result, he put them into debt early on in Elisabeth's life. He was fond of games of strategy, and taught Elisabeth both chess and how to battle Pokémon. He was a cheerful, stout man who always believed in seeing the good in others, and he instilled that lesson in his daughter: even in the darkest places, there is light to be found. This advice would backfire spectacularly, as Elisabeth would initially excuse horrific behavior in her future husband by focusing on his good qualities. Francis died after suffering dementia, never truly realizing the fate his daughter had married into.
Georgiana was a member of another declining noble family. Against her family's better judgment, she married Francis for love, rather than choosing a more affluent partner to salvage her own estates. She was a reasonably famous watercolour painter in southern Kalos, known particularly for her series of flowers set in Floarama Town. She loved flowers and is the reason for Elisabeth's avid passion for gardening and botany. Georgiana taught Elisabeth the language of flowers, and also tried several times to urge her daughter to leave her abusive relationship. Sadly she died too soon for her advice to take hold in any meaningful way.
Elisabeth was unable to attend either of their funerals due to circumstances out of her control. To this day, she grieves them deeply and hopes there is no afterlife, because she cannot bear the idea that they know what sort of person she turned into.
