[attr="class","skullbody"] "Hearth! C'mon, get back here!"[break][break] Normally, Isaac wasn't the type to nanny his Pokemon. In fact, he actually gave them plenty of room to roam on their own. But this was different. For one, Hearth had just hatched recently. Doing a contest together was one thing, but running through a busy street? When he was still so small and clumsy?[break][break] And when parts of the street were being taken over by swarms of Pokemon from a bygone age?[break][break] The divide was almost palpable. Up to a point, the street was sturdy, well-maintained concrete. Up to another, it was a mess of weathered stone, overgrown plantlife poking out through the cracks. The air seemed to shimmer and distort, almost like a curtain that travelers between eras could push past. Isaac tried his best to stop Hearth, but he was moments too slow. The Cyndaquil passed right into the distortion, where Isaac failed to follow.[break][break] "It's not safe in there," Isaac said, but his voice was lost to the ages. Hearth was well and truly alone. The world outside slowed to a muddled crawl, a feeling equal parts disorienting and strangely soothing. He walked towards a stump that had once been a tree and sat atop it, staring into the center of the distortion.[break][break] If the world outside the distortion had slowed to a crawl, the world within was even faster and more hectic. Hearth could see a pack of Basculin swimming on the streams of time, acting in perfect harmony. One by one, they withered and died, but their perfect formation remained unbroken. Finally, the sole survivors began to glow. Their bodies elongated, as did their whiskers. The souls of their brethren spilled from their bodies, the vivid clouds a stark contrast to the drab olive of their aged bodies. The male of the duo turned a vivid red, more violet than the orange-ish ornamentation of today's Basculin.[break][break] They twirled around one another, dancing the dance of life and death. Then, as they parted, a clutch of eggs manifest between them, from which a new set of Basculin hatched. The fries basked in the fading life energy of their parents, the clouds of their souls flickering out as they shared what little they had with the next generation. Then they, too, faded, leaving their children to sail the same time stream they once had.[break][break] Hearth watched, fascinated. He watched for so long that he felt his body began to elongate. His face filled out the rest of his snout. His flame spilled forth from his head and tail, the flame-retardant skin of adolescence separating his vents. Then this skin, too, began to fade, a single adulthood vent forming like a wreath at the base of his neck. His claws began to sharpen, and his eyes began to ease open for what felt like the first time.[break][break] He pondered the lesson that he had learned today. Orbs of flame formed around his neck, like spokes on the great wheel of life that he had just witnessed play out over and over again. As he looked down, the orbs changed from a burning red to a deep, enigmatic purple. In that moment, he understood everything, yet understood nothing.[break][break] With that, he left the time distortion, Isaac slack-jawed and stunned. "Hey, uh . . . Hearth? You okay, buddy?" Isaac asked. "It looks like you've been in there for a real long time."[break][break] The Typhlosion thought for a second, then peeped happily. He nuzzled right up to Isaac, the flames around his neck vibrant and warm instead of hot and oppressive. It seemed even after this mysterious experience, Hearth was still baby at heart.[break][break] Hearth has evolved into a Hisuian Typhlosion![break] Green Shard get!
