a day's work

Summer wouldn't mind challenging the notion. She smiled, almost as if she knew, before speaking.
"Do you? I feel as though you'd be with your suitor instead of with me should you have one, Miss Fiorelli. My apologies for sounding harsh," she said with a chuckle.
"I mean no ill intent, though. I think it's not worth the time or effort. Man or woman, love is worth nothing compared to the work and aspirations of the world. Love serves to hurt the heart rather than heal it."
She spoke the words almost bitterly, staring away, ahead, as she thought about Casey again. Her eyes closed for a moment, humming monotonously before looking back.
"You have a point. It's rather fun doing the heart breaking rather than having a broken heart."
Summer gazed at the drink that was delivered to her, trailing her sharp gaze to the table of men they had been discussing not too long ago. It seemed that whichever sent it, they were not afraid to stare back. She smiled, showing glinting white teeth as she turned back to the drink.
"They are nothing more than life sucking businessmen. I have no time or patience for them. Take it away, please," she said, waving her hand.
That caused a stir, as the men noticed the bartender taking away the rejected drink. Of course, they had thought they had won, with her all knowing smile and dazzling charm. But Summer Prescott wasn't going to play easy.
"Please, Miss Elisabeth, I'd rather stay here and chat than be in the company of those men discussing whatever finances they will talk about when I show up. They know who my father is. It's all a ploy to get closer to the goal of becoming powerful."
