Izzy didn't often feel like a particularly lucky person - he'd lived the majority of his life with very few dollars to his name, he'd never been great at socialising or making friends - hell, he couldn't even grow a beard.[break][break]

But at least he didn't have to live on the sub.[break][break]

The place freaked him out at the best of times - who'd want to live surrounded by water and sweaty grunts all the time? His apartment was small and uncomfortable and awkward, and the power went out all the time, and sometimes the roof would leak in the corner if it rained too hard. But at least it was a place all to his own. Even if was paid for with blood money.[break][break]

The idea that the submarine was now making weird sounds only made things worse. This place had a grim enough atmosphere at the best of times, and as if to make matters worse, he'd been partnered with... some plucky, pretty girl that he tried hard not to look directly at, like she was sunlight.[break][break]

"Hey, uh... guess so. If you're here for the noise stuff?"

Izzy watches the Typhlosion get busy, very quickly and suddenly, scrabbling up the burrow of whichever poor pokémon had decided to cause trouble. A gaggle of bedraggled Bunnelby suffer at the hands of it's fiery grasps, some wriggling out the other side of the burrow and bounding away.[break][break]

Watching their cottontails disappear into the stalks, Izzy let out his Inkay and nodded in the bunnies' direction, Wira taking the message and heading over to CONSTRICT the ones she could catch up with.[break][break]

"Tsk. Anybody'd think you get your kicks from harassing poor innocent pokémon" He raises a brow at Wolfgang, and... is that a tiny smirk, then, as Izzy speaks? Perhaps, just slightly. Maybe it was different now that he was speaking to someone who wasn't either a complete stranger or a fellow rocket.

Maybe it was the fact that Melody was a celebrity but also not, like, literally part of an international crime syndicate? That might have been what was so interesting about her - she wasn't also going to, like, watch him commit a Rocket-sanctioned murder or something. There was a kind of naivete about her, too, which Izzy kind of saw reflected in himself - not that he would ever admit that, of course. It presented itself, in him, as frowns as snaps, but in Melody it was all pink and bubbles and clouds. It was... refreshing.[break][break]

His Inkay wrapped her tentacle around Melody's finger as it was politely shaken by the girl, and did what could only be assumed to be an octopus-style smile.[break][break]

Izzy watched Melody for a moment after she spoke. Dangerous at the moment... Well, she wasn't exactly wrong, but Izzy didn't want to seem like he knew anything about that beyond what the rest of Hoenn did.[break]
"Yeah, but-" Before he had a chance to try and brush it under the rug, she spoke up and did it herself.[break]
"R-right, yeah... exactly. It's all gonna be... all good, and stuff. That's good" He gave an approximation of a smile - rusty and underused.[break][break]

"So, ah... you reckon we should stay on the beach, or set up camp like... in?" He gestured roughly towards the trees, indicating that by in he meant further inland.

"Oh, right, yeah... fair point" Izzy wasn't one of those people who knew a whole lot about pokémon as a whole, asides from the ones he owned and what made them happy and what made them mad. It was kind of interesting listening to Vic - obviously, as a ranger, knowing about pokémon was his job. Izzy didn't know about Vic's real reasons and preparations with pokémon, but at the very least it was more interesting listening to him than at dumb old trainers school.[break][break]

A few decent - by Izzy's standard at least - shots taken, and he lets the camera go once more, allowing it to hang around his tummy thanks to the strap around his neck. He looks back at the older man, leaning against a tree behind him, and blushes a little as he rolls his eyes at the text comment. "That wasn't what I-", but stops himself as Vic calls him cute.[break][break]

Cute. Waaaaaaah...[break][break]

He looks away to hide the redness of his face, though the ears that poked out from blonde hair were as equally tamato-red. "Ugh." That dumb smirk, that stupid laugh. So embarrassing. Did he really think he was cute though?[break][break]

Izzy shakes his head in a stroppy refusal to entertain those thoughts, and walks back towards the main path they'd strayed from. "Makes sense" is the only curt answer Vic receives as the little blonde hastens away.

The name cut like a knife. Izydor. His own name, but still so foreign - he was Izzy to everyone, after all, and always had been. Most people didn't even know his full name, it wasn't as though he interacted enough for people to ask. This Mars is miles different to the one Izzy encountered previously, and he can see now why this man has done well enough to become an admin.[break][break]

He feels helpless. Defenceless. Like prey.[break][break]

They served their purpose. Who talks about dead pokémon like that?[break][break]

"Right... still, though..." He clears his throat for a moment, looks away to focus on anything but those piercing amber eyes. Indeed, distraction comes in the form of a little Dreepy, just courageous enough to float close to him, as though curious to his infiltration of the graveyard. Izzy holds his palm out to the curious dragon, lets it sniff him, and then offers it a pokéball.[break][break]

He turns to Mars once more - hesitantly - and sees him doing much the same with his own little guest.[break][break]

"...It's always so peaceful here"[break][break]

More an observation than a comment specifically aimed at Admin del Mar. And truth, at that - Izzy always felt calmness in this place, even despite the ridiculousness that has occurred on their last encounter at Mt. Pyre. His words hang awkwardly in their air, refrigerated in the misty aura of the graveyard.

Deja vu.[break][break]

He'd seen this scenario before, under different circumstances. The well-dressed man in the graveyard, yet another ghost chained to this place. Except this time, Izzy had seen him somewhere else before, too - at the submarine. This time Izzy was aware of him as something more than a fellow wanderer, or even as the bank CEO. He was now grossly aware that he was watching his boss - an Admin.[break][break]

Had he seen him, too, at the meeting, out the corner of one eye? It played at Izzy's heart like pins and needles. The idea of work life and real life interlinking like this, overcrossing like this - it filled Izzy was dread. There was too much that could go wrong.[break][break]

But another difference today, also, was that Mars had no pokémon out with him today. In fact, he's concentrated only on the twin graves he stands before. Izzy may be stupid in a lot of ways, but he could recognise quiet grieving when he saw it. Maybe it was some shred of humanity inside him, or maybe he really was stupid, but... he went over. Not right over, but close enough.[break][break]

"I'm sorry for your loss"[break][break]

It was presumptuous, of course, maybe Mars was just looking at unrelated graves. That mixed with everything else caused a thudding in his chest - if he got this wrong, everything could fuck up. But some part of him really did want to offer this moment of compassion to a fellow human.

Great story? Izzy didn't consider it that way. It was a stress-inducing story that had only gotten worse since that meeting when he realised the guy he'd ridden a horse with and thought was handsome was his boss.[break][break]

"Yeah. Guess so"[break][break]

He really did try to be a good conversational partner, but it really was hard. Admittedly, though, it was less hard when paired up with someone like Vic, to whom conversation seemed to flow as easily as water. Izzy follows his pink-haired companion closer to the frightful little forest-glowies. He even almost laughs when Vic calls him out for not keeping up.[break][break]

In response, he jogs up a little closer.[break][break]

"I mean, me neither, but... I guess wisps are ghosty" He snaps some pics as he talks. Nothing too artistic, no focus on angles or lighting, really - just capturing the subject clearly enough as can be done in an ooky-spooky location like this.[break][break]

"Do you do this kind of thing a lot, by the way? Since you're a ranger. And stuff"[break][break]

Not that Izzy knew any other "stuff" about Vic, aside from the fact that he seemed... so weirdly nice. In a way, this time spent together was a way for Izzy to watch his guide closely, to see if there were any cracks in that façade. It had to be a façade, right? Also, chia sheep.

As he's already looking at her, it's hard to not follow her gaze when she drifts off for a few seconds. The Blaziken - he doesn't stare long. It doesn't feel right. Izzy knows himself how much a look can mean, how much a thought can eat away at you. Whether he's overthinking or whether Luka really is dealing with something, it didn't matter much either way - Izzy didn't want to pry.[break][break]

She smiles at him, then, as she brings herself back. For a split second, he almost smiles back, caught up in the moment of being with someone kind. It feels so rusty, though, that it's just the twitchy corner of his lips that turn upwards by a millimetre, barely noticeable. She was letting him borrow her stuff. Even the Steenee stomps over like teaching Izzy to garden was her life goal.[break][break]

"...Thanks. I don't mind sharing."[break][break]

He leafs through the bag for a moment, taking out a trowel and becoming painfully aware of the dirt under his fingernails. Following her pokémon's guidance, he pulls out another seed and holds it safe in his left palm, while digging where instructed with the trowel in his right.[break][break]

"Anise like the herb?" He asks a few minutes later, after creating a little hole and dropping the seed in. It always intrigued him the way people named their pokémon, but it wasn't too surprising that Luka's might be named after pretty, delicate things.

As the stranger looks down at him, Izzy realises properly just how tall this guy is. Like, holy shit - he all at once becomes painfully aware that he was shoulder height to this dude and cranes his neck up to meet eyes with him, since that was apparently polite, or something.[break][break]

"Yeah. Uh-- how's it... going?"[break][break]

He looks away again, then. Politeness be damned when you have the wonderful curse known as Generalised Anxiety, and Izzy wasn't good at speaking to people at the best of times, let alone when it was this awkward back-and-forth out in the wild like this.[break][break]

A Phantump, is that, just between the gaps in the trees? Ambling about, minding it's business, keeping to the shadows. Izzy didn't feel the need to bother it like he had with Percy. Even then, if he'd wanted to sneak up and take it out, he only had Lawenda and her grass-type sensibilities as opposed to the - for once - Myszko, who could have more easily gotten the party started with an ember.[break][break]

Instead, Izzy focuses on holding a conversation in the same way a human might.[break][break]

"Do you spend a lot of time here?"[break][break]

Dangerously close to do you come here often, though flirting wasn't Izzy's intent - and if someone pointed out that it sounded a little like that's what he was attempting he'd have exploded on the spot - instead, he was being truly genuine. Most "normal" people didn't hang out at graveyard mountains too often. Izzy liked ghost types, but most other people... well, they understandably would get freaked out.

If Izzy had been actually aware of the fact that he'd ended up face-first in Bee's chest, he would've been a blushing mess - he'd never been good with any physical contact, let alone something like that. He always died inside when getting looked at too hard, so actually making contact was a whole league of it's own. Luckily, he was having a near-death experience to distract himself from all that.[break][break]

By the time he'd collected himself, the Runerigus was beginning to fade - the work of Bee's quick thinking at bringing out another pokémon to help. The COFAGRIGUS, unable to claw like it wanted to, hissed and began to clasp it's hands together, forming a SHADOW BALL between it's wispy palms; and Izzy only noticed until it was already launching at the lone Duskull.[break][break]

"Fuck - hit it back!"[break][break]

Sen already knew what to do. It took the Shadow Ball as a direct hit, getting slammed back into the wall like a Seel-slapped beach ball. Izzy called out to the little ghost, ready to throw it's pokéball and zap it back into safety, but Sen used the last of his energy to launch a PAYBACK. While Sen hit the floor and fainted, the COFAGRIGUS took the full brunt of the super effective, full-force attack.[break][break]

Not even left with enough power to turn back to it's child that cowered in the corner, the Cofagrigus lost it's power in one fell swoop, and faded away.[break][break]

Izzy sighed and ran a hand through his hair, pushing his fringe from his face. He threw Sen's ball his way, taking the injured ghost-type back into safety.[break][break]

Was it guilt that caused him to dig for an empty ball and throw it at the terrified YAMASK? Or was it just part of clearing out the place? Maybe a little bit of both. It was still basically a baby, after all, and Izzy felt a little more awkward about killing it than he did with it's parents.[break][break]

"...We can probably just stick it in the market or something." He shrugged, met eyes with Bee. "Do you think that's everything?" He takes a quick glance around the empty room, only to realise just a few seconds after... the empty room? Where did...[break][break]

"...All the food's gone."
