Not long after the previous Koffing floated sadly back into the underbrush, a curious little DEERLING poked her nose out from between two trees. Instead of looking for a fight - or spewing gas everywhere, like the Koffing - she instead seemed interested, excited even, to watch Lepki water the flowers and plants she came across.[break][break]

Instead of stepping in, this time, Izzy stepped back and let the two meet naturally. A few chattered noises were exchanged between the little deer Pokémon and the Pyukumuku, and then the Deerling bent down to rub her head against the soaked earth, taking delight in the wet of the soil.[break][break]

She seemed happy enough to join the two of them, and so Izzy offered a Pokéball to her.

Oh god, now he had to say whatever the fuck he meant by that.[break][break]

"Uh- I didn't mean, I meant, eh-" There was something about his face that reminded him of work. Of that don't fuck up vibe that all his superiors gave off at all times. "Sorry, I didn't mean anything by it, I was just... speaking without thinking, I guess..."[break][break]

Izzy's attention is drawn at the same time as Mars', but not to the gentle windchime tinkling, and instead to the faint creak from behind him, like a coffin door. Or, more specifically, a Sarcophagus. The COFAGRIGUS seems shy, barely poking it's eyes out from around a large tree, it's ghostly hands gripping to the bare branches like a child to it's parent's clothing. [break][break]

Sen acted before Izzy even told him to, floating over and LEERING, to the point where the COFAGRIGUS seemed like it might burst into tears. Taking advantage of it's weakened state, Izzy throws a Pokeball its way.[break][break]

"Oh? Right, yeah, sorry- I'm Izzy. Hey, I'm heading down the mountain now, do you..." He makes eye contact in a sudden moment of confidence, then immediately loses it when Izzy finds those amber eyes staring back at him, focusing on his feet instead. "W-well, either way, I'm heading down. You can follow, if you want, or whatever?" [break][break]

And off he goes, wanting to die a little as he hears the taller man's footsteps indeed following behind him.

It felt like Izzy had given everything to Team Rocket, and still they asked for yet more.[break][break]

He was a nobody, but he was a nobody that picked up every last scrap of work and did everything, no questions asked, no comments made - the dirtiest of dirty. He'd heard of MAGMA; faintly, in hushed whispers, never anything concrete, or anything that didn't contain codewords he didn't want to worry about unravelling. He was just there for the money. Head down.[break][break]

To be rewarded might be his undoing, but to be rewarded may mean a life with less struggle. Nicer clothes. More food on the table. Winter was on it's way - he'd need heating for the apartment. I don't have any other choice, he reminds himself, picking at the skin between his fingernails.[break][break]

Izzy watches, consent silently given, stuck to the corner of the room like an old piece of furniture.

Was Izzy really this desperate for money?[break][break]

Uh... yeah. Yeah, he was.[break][break]

The advertisement hadn't struck him with too much interest until he'd seen the whole you win money at the end btw part, at which point he'd decided to put in for it mostly on a stupid whim. Except, now he was here - sand, sea, palm trees, terrifying beasts that lurked in the shadows between the trees, the whole shebang.[break][break]

And even worse, more terrifying than anything else - there was a pretty girl with him. A pretty girl who he'd actually heard of, to add to that! She was basically a celebrity - the gym leader who'd been kidnapped during the whole Sootopolis debacle, not to mention the fact that she did that video stuff too. Fuck. This was worse than literally anything else he could have encountered on the island. How was he supposed to make conversation with someone like her?![break][break]

He awkwardly ran his hand over the shiny surface of the Pokeball he was keeping Lepki in - and knew that Myszko was at home positively dying at the fact that Izzy hadn't chosen to take him. But, they were on a fucking island in the middle of bumfuck nowhere - the last thing he needed to have to worry about was a little asshole who'd eat all the shit they found before Izzy had a chance to.[break][break]

The breeze didn't come as a big surprise to Izzy, who was well aware that seasons changed just like everywhere else in the world, so he pulled his coat a little closer around him.[break][break]

"So, uh... you..." He started, and then stopped. "Whattaya wanna do... like, first? A house... I mean- like a shelter, or beds, or whatever? Since that's... for sleeping."[break][break]

Izzy really wanted to just kind of jump into the ocean and drown. Just a little bit.

These days, he'd said. This guy couldn't be much older than Izzy was, but he talked about training in the past like he'd done it all his life. And he probably had. Things like that always made Izzy so self conscious - a little reminder that he hadn't the money or time for anything like that. But when the world was so focused on Pokémon, it couldn't help but make him feel... shitty, at times.[break][break]

The plate was finished soon enough, both tummies full and both faces warm from the comfortable fire just in front of them.[break][break]

"Flying Pokémon? Eh..." He thought for a moment about his meagre collection of pals. Not one of them could fly, and even if they could, he doubted any of them could take his weight. "...No, I don't. But I don't mind hiking through the forest again, y'know, if you could just point me in the direction. I don't wanna bug you for too much longer" Izzy shrugged. He wasn't sure this guy would take no for an answer, and so he relented.[break][break]

As he started to stand up, passing his finished plate back over to the taller guy that sat before him, and brushing off his shirt, Izzy paused for a second. "Maybe you could just give me your number or whatever, that way if I all down some hole or break a leg I can hit you up again, or whatever"[break][break]

Wait, did that sound like he was asking for his number, like... asking for his number?
"--If you want, I mean" ...did that just make it sound even more like that? Ugh. Fuck. Ew. People.

Why did it have to be a violent cactus? Couldn't it have been something smaller and easier to box? Teeny tiny shiny JOLTIK? Even UNOWN! They were all the rage nowadays! And delightfully easy to cram into something and not get, like, spiked through the skin by. It couldn't have just been something like Unown.[break][break]

Luckily, his partner had brought a Metagross - a much smarter idea than it would've been bringing Izzy's own GOTHORITA. [break][break]

"Whoever buys this thing needs to invest in a Soothe Bell. Or, like, fifty of them. They make your Pokemon love you or some shit, right?" Not that Izzy would know - he didn't need anything like that, though the implication that he loved and adored his cutesy widdle babies was enough to embarrass him to death, so he didn't dwell on that thought too long.[break][break]

He barely had a chance to say 'hold up a minute' before the boxes were passed over, and Izzy struggled to grip them for a moment, almost daring the tower to wobble and fall before straightening up. He let out a sigh, and then listened as the girl before him spouted off a paragraph of information like she was a walking Pokedex.[break][break]

"Huh... I mean, sounds like that'll work. Better than my idea, anyways" Because, like, what kind of moron was he for his first idea at taking on a Snorlax to be brute force? That would never work! That thing weighed more than his fucking apartment, for Arceus' sake.[break][break]

"Right, so-- y'want me to wait until it's up, then start dotting down pizzas like a track or something?" He spoke up, as he watched Lia put the box of garlic bread down on the grass. Myszko would have grieved the tainting of a delicious meal, if it weren't for the fact that eating it off the floor wasn't that bad a thing to him.[break][break]

Izzy watched as the KOFFING approached, well aware that little Lepki wouldn't have noticed a thing if he didn't let her know - and also well aware that if it's stanky 'ol gasses ruined her new horticulture hobby, she'd have been devastated.[break][break]

"Koffing on your left, Lep"[break][break]

Sure enough, the little Pyukumuku turned and watched the poison-type as it hovered a little closer, then promptly let out another SOAK, leaving the poor dripping-wet Koffing to retreat back into the forest proper.

Was Izzy's whole life now just taking his Pokemon to places he thought they'd like? Lepki had seemed enamoured with plantlife since Izzy had got her, so in his free time he thought it might be nice for her to go somewhere with a lot of it. Where else was best but Petalburg Woods, where the trees sometimes grew so thick they obscured the whole sky?[break][break]

He'd let her out of her ball and allowed the little Pyukumuku to head towards a patch of grass, where she delighted in SOAK-ing all the foliage she could access.[break][break]

Izzy kept on watch nearby - they were close enough to the tall grass and the tall trees that a Pokemon could have came out if it was looking for trouble, and he didn't want the Lepki to end up caught off-guard.

Holy shit. This dude was being serious, like, for real.[break][break]

Izzy wanted to hesitate more, but the delicious offering of curry as it was plated up and steaming hot was too much to handle - he took a seat almost subconsciously and started to dig in, only remembering after a couple mouthfuls to say "Ah-- thanks. I'm Izzy"[break][break]

At his side, Myszko had taken his own bites from the side closest to him, with Izzy unaware or perhaps uncaring that his Salandit were eating from his own plate. The little lizard curled up, after a few chomps, in the nook between Izzy's crossed legs - Myszko's cheeks bulged with the stockpile of curry he had taken.[break][break]

As he ate quietly, Izzy watched the stranger's Pokémon. The great, proud Arcanine; the Dragapult with it's Dreepy nestled in it's horns, even the little Goomy, half-asleep, cuddled up.
"You've got some really rare Pokémon here. You a collector or something? And, uh- thanks again. For the food. I might of been, erm... a bit lost" He makes eye contact for a second and breaks it immediately - it's something a little too comfortable for someone he only just met.[break][break]

Ugh... why did Izzy keep running into random handsome guys while he was busy doing other stuff? Was he cursed, or something?

What kind of dumbass drove their bike out into the desert?[break][break]

That's what Izzy was assuming had happened, at least - nobody was stupid enough to bring a car out there, obviously. He'd gotten the call, as he so often did, that someone's poor old method of transportation had bitten the dust and so Izzy would need to head out there and put everything back together again - or at least get it back to his place for work.[break][break]

He'd taken his own bike up towards the desert, then left it by the outskirts while he trekked his way into the sun-baked, sand-riddled route, with Pilka's pokeball strapped to his belt - seemed the easiest solution to quick-start a motor would be to let the VOLTORB zap it.[break][break]

We worried, for a moment, that his hunt through the sunburnt dustbowl might end up fruitless, trekking past a lazy pile of sleeping SANDSHREW, and a VIBRAVA that buzzed it's wings cautiously at him. Sure enough, however, there they were - a figure, carefully tucked up a lonely tree. Izzy called out to them as he approached.[break][break]

"You the one who called for a mechanic?"
