Throwing more dangerous things? It was a fair point. First stray rare candies, then what? Crockery, old candlesticks? Knives? Izzy liked his skin and clothing not full of holes, thank you very much.[break][break]

He almost jumped when his partner’s Liepard leapt - quite literally - into action, taking out the poor Pumpkaboo that disappeared not long after. Myszko scrabbled down from his shoulder, sniffing interestedly at the area where the little pumpkin pokemon had fell. He sniffed again, then, and before even looking back, rushed off in the direction of the dining room.[break][break]

”Ah - Myszko! Don’t just… run off” Too little too late, and the little lizard’s tail disappeared in the darkness behind the great door, just a little ajar. He could just feel Bee and the Liepard judging him - no control over such a small little pokemon? Ugh. Why couldn’t the fucker ever do what he was told?! ”...He’s probably just, y’know… caught it’s… smell. Or something. Right it is, huh?” Spoken with the confidence of someone who was pretending their dumb pet was, indeed, very smart.[break][break]

He pocketed the rare candy he’d been holding and gently took the torch from Bee. “Here, let me go first - you make sure nothing’s following us in, yeah?”. Seemed only fair that he should go first, considering it was his moron lizard that was potentially leading them into a deathtrap.[break][break]

With a little nod of understanding, the little ghost rumbled a deep rumble back at the man it floated by the legs of, as though attempting some ghostly form of a purr. Sen made his calm way back to the side of his trainer, now satisfied with having made a new friend.[break][break]

Izzy himself continued to walk too, awkward little steps where he was overthinking not wanting to look like he was creeping on this guy, but also, since they were talking, he didn’t want to just walk off and seem rude.[break][break]

”Eh-- not specifically, but yeah, kind of. Mostly just here for Sen . And a chance to take a walk, I guess.” It was true, after all - he’d come out all this way just to try and help the little Duskull from being so down. Was that stupidity, then, instead of just finding somewhere suitable closer? Maybe it was something weird like love or care. [break][break]

The Gothita was wandering, it seemed, half-lost, when Izzy noticed it and gently pushed Sen towards it with a quick aside of ”Go make a friend”, which Sen dutifully did with a harmless CONFUSE RAY[break][break]

”What about you, then? You don’t seem the type, y’know...?” To what? To... go to a graveyard? Anybody could do that, Izzy, come on. ”I mean- like- to just be... out here. And stuff”

Ugh. Izzy always hated doing work at home. No matter what part of Slateport he'd slink around in, he always felt his apartment building breathing down his neck, and the fear of being found out always weighed a little heavier when he lived next door to where he was breaking the law.[break][break]

When it came to smuggling, Slateport was the largest market for it: there were people everywhere, for starters, and it was easier to do whatever the hell you wanted when there were a billion people in the area at the same time. That couldn't exactly be said for the warehouses, but even then, fellow lowlives and troublemakers snuck about in the darkness and paid no mind to whoever else was doing whatever they were doing down here in the muck.[break][break]

As for now, he and his partner were just waiting... their drop would get here soon, he'd been told. The piece of paper crumpled in his pocket said three am sharp, and then they just had to get it to the route to the north.. whatever it was. Staying up late didn't bug him too much, but checking his watch and seeing 3:25 made him burn up. He pulled his jacket a little closer around him and grumbled to the grunt nearby.[break][break]

"You'd think they'd turn up on fucking time for something like this. Some fucking drop. Imagine all this waiting around, and it ends up being something stupid?"[break][break]

Mumble, grumble. He fiddled his fingers together beneath his sleeves. Even with Hoenn being so tropical, the weather got colder from this time of year onwards, especially in the nights. He spoke again, this time turning to face his compatriot. "You cold?". He knew how to care, just a little bit, about other people.

Izzy had resting bitch face strong enough to power a small village, but with Ceri, just sometimes, he just about managed to smile. Occasionally. It was harder to fight a smirk when he watched Ceri scoop Myszko up like a baby, and watch the little Salandit positively BEAM while he let out what could be a lizard-esque purr. For such a nightmarish little creature who bit everything it saw - except Ceri, apparently - he was still such a baby somedays.[break][break]

"You spoil him too much, he'll get a complex" He looked at her, watched her walk for a sec. Such a big smile, such a confident gait. He couldn't help but return a smile back at her, however faint. "S'weird actually being out here not on a proper mission for once. I don't usually get time to just, like... wander. Hang out. Whatever." A pause, a couple thoughts. "Cer, do you ever think about-"[break][break]

"Kay, kay! Inkay!"[break][break]

Ah, interrupted by a squid. Happens every day. Either way, not a poison type - not what Ceri was looking for! But... it was cute. A pokeball was thrown it's way, giving him some more time to think about what he was gonna say. Seriously, wanting to ask someone to hang out more? What did he want to do - chase away the only person who put up with him?

Ah, the shitty little places just outside of Slateport proper. It reminded him of the back ends of Castelia. The sounds of the busy city in the distance, the faint smell of garbage and all the other kinds of things that made their homes in dank back-alleys and the kinds of places that teenagers with nothing better to do gathered to smoke. Ah, home.[break][break]

That said, it would be easier to take in the sights and sounds if he wasn't accompanied by the lovely Ceri who, despite the fact that she was maybe the thing closest to a friend Izzy had, was loud and extroverted and talked all the fucking time, it seemed, and he never could have a moment to think to himself when things were like this. He pretended to hate it, grumbled when she asked about his day, grunted a reply when she mentioned her research.[break][break]

In truth, he almost liked it. Maybe just a little. It was better than being alone. At the very least, she was someone who knew his darkness and could relate to it - yet another double lifer, yet another Rocket. That made interacting with her some of the easiest interacting with another person had been in years.[break][break]

"So what did you say you were out here looking for again? Poison types? You can take Myszko if you need him - if he chews through my charging cable again I'm gonna skin him". In retaliation to the grave offense of his trainer, the little lizard on Izzy's shoulder hissed; scrambled down his side and leg and skittered along beside the blue-haired girl instead, little feet tippy-tapping their way across the pavement.

Stay close and don't get separated seemed like fair enough advice, though the inner grumpy teenager that had never quite left Izzy's mind kind of wanted to fuck off and be alone just to spite him. Rebelling against authority wasn't really something you could act on once you'd joined Team Rocket, however. No matter how much he missed it sometimes, it wasn't worth getting stabbed in the back - literally - by some admin later on for defying orders.[break][break]

"Ugh." was all he managed to muster at the wink - he would've said something snappy and trite, but didn't want to risk his voice quavering like a verbal blush, so instead gave a quick nod and followed the taller man into the house. It was dark, it was silent; even the old boards and slats of the building barely creaked. The place was big and grand in it's time, and now that it had fallen from grace it only seemed eerily uninviting, like some great maw.[break][break]

When he saw the message scrawled along the wall, he couldn't help but feel his breath hitch a little.
"...Is'at blood?" He hiss-whispered at his partner, then looked around the entrance. Everything outside of the torch's light was almost too dark to see, but there was a sensation there; like eyes at the back of his head, like something moving closer... and then, the faintest sound of something tiny and hard hitting the floor.[break][break]

As Izzy bent down to take a look, he picked up the two little items, passing one to his partner. Rare candies. As he rolled the wrapped candy between his index finger and thumb, he squinted. "...Are we being pranked? Or are the demons here just real generous?"

Izzy's so preoccupied with not wanting to embarrass himself - or his Duskull - in front of this wild rich guy who's hanging around graves, he doesn't even notice the pair of pokemon that, agitated, stumble out from the undergrowth. He's rolled up in that smile, the kind of smile that comes so easily, like breathing - the kind of smile that turned up on tv or on posters, that businessmen like this guy often had. [break][break]It was also the kind of smile that Izzy wasn't uncommon with seeing, for example, in Team Rocket - people dripping with endless charm and gold that it couldn't help but leak out from their teeth in the same way that Mars, before him, did.[break][break]

Reminded him of people richer than him. Reminded him of sharks. He wished he could have felt any kind of warmth to it.[break][break]

"Oh, yeah? Okay, well-- that's good, I just didn't-" and then, with the stranger pointing out something about needing to move out the way, and the sudden appearance of a - shiny? - Noivern, that was when Izzy noticed the encroaching pair. A Metang focused on his conversational partner and a Banette that, a little further away, was facing him, instead. With the warning, he had time to pull out a pokeball and throw it at the approaching ghost, while Sen was still too far away to be of much use.[break][break]

Izzy, very begrudgingly, took part today on the off chance that he might win a cash prize or something. It definitely had nothing to do with the frankly adorable costume his sweet little baby - uh, that was, his nasty little wire-chewing terror - had on. Myszko, the aforementioned baby terror, scuttled around the stage with Spinarak-style legs bouncing wildly from his back. Izzy couldn't help but get the costume when he'd seen that one viral video about the Growlithe in an Ariados costume scaring all those people. Plus, Arceus, it was soooo cute.[break][break]

As for Izzy himself... sweats and a t-shirt. He wasn't the one dressing up, c'mon, who d'ya think he is? What if someone from Rocket recognised him? He didn't wanna lose cred for dressing up as a catboy or whatever the hell people did nowadays.[break][break]

Izzy had expected a partner to arrive to help move this sleepy Snorlax, since, like, that's kind of how jobs like this worked. He didn't, however, expect to see... what, a moving tower of pizza boxes? A tower from behind which a little face peeked round, and a voice peeped up. Izzy raised a brow. "Uh- yeah. Obviously, right? Are... you?" He took a moment to size up her pile of boxes.[break][break]

"Guess that's for the Snorlax, right?" There was a tiny smile there, alongside the idea that... well, maybe there would perhaps be some leftovers? If even a slice could be salvaged from the jaws of a hungry snorlax, then... well... it might be nice to get a quick meal. But in truth, feeding the thing until it disappeared seemed a better idea than trying to move it in any other way, no matter how much Myszko wanted to try chewing on it's great feet to get it going.[break][break]

The little Salandit now, in fact, seemed focused heavily on the scent of the fresh pizzas, intense as a laser. A little squeak escaped his mouth at the ranger's direction, as if to say, 'is for me?'

"That's-- yeah, you..." Ugh. Staring at him like that... too intense and too long, it made Izzy's cheeks redden - he thanked Arceus that it was darker out to cover that up somewhat, at least. Made him feel like a kid, too - this guy surely could only be a couple years older than him, but still, the confidence aged him. Or maybe the self-consciousness de-aged Izzy. Either way - he unclipped his Salandit's pokeball from his bag and released the feral little lizard out onto the floor, where Myszko promptly climbed up and around Izzy's shoulders as he so often did. He cleared his throat, centred himself. "...go ahead"[break][break]

The older guy moved ahead to unlock the door with the conviction of a man who acted like unlocking doors was his life's work, except the key jammed in place. "Y'don't think he... gave the wrong key?" Impossible, obviously - as if the underboss would fuck up like that, but what else would be the reason? Except for, y'know, the spooky door knocking itself, which was also a thing that could happen, apparently. "The fuck..." He whispered, half to himself, half out loud; not on-purpose. He didn't spook easily, but... shit was weird. [break][break]

When the door swung open, like an invitation... Izzy couldn't help but feel his hands go a little colder beneath their gloves. Obviously whatever lived here now was... welcoming them in, or maybe daring them to enter? This time it was him who instigated the eye contact, taking a step forward and staring up into Bee's eyes. "...Guess we're going in, then, huh?". Myszko hissed in quiet agreement on his shoulder, his tail flicking against the fabric of Izzy's jacket. "And... try not to get possessed?" Said as deadpan as they come, but there was a smile there, just almost.

Izzy spent way too much of his time in Slateport feeling like an outsider - everyone else who hung around seemed to have so much of their life together, all that money, all those friends; all the things that come with living in a big hustling, bustling city. It was always more welcoming to be here in the outskirts of the city, where all the grime and filth mingled - he felt more at home. Reminded him of old backalleys back in Castelia where he could chill in peace. As much as he hated doing business for the team so close to his home, if it was going to be anywhere, it might as well be here.[break][break]

Good memories aside, though, this place looked like shit. Like, crumbling, falling down, not even good enough for squatters kind of shit. Someone lived here once, though, and... presumably something did now, if the mission report was anything to go by. He took a breath. It was just a simple clear-out job. Myszko could get some biting out of his system, Izzy could get paid, all easy and uncomplicated.[break][break]

Izzy pulled his collar up a little higher and his hat down a little further - he hated the idea of ever being recognised at a gig like this - and met his partner's eyes. Some fancy pretty boy, the kind who smiles like sunlight. Izzy didn't smile back. "Bee. Right. Uh, I'm Izzy. You ready to... y'know... head in? And do... the thing?" Ah, conversation - Izzy had never excelled at it.

Sen seemed to be calmer in this kind of environment, even though Izzy had wondered at first if it might make him uncomfortable - to be dead and surrounded by more dead? Wouldn't it just remind you that you were, like... dead? Either way, the little ghost floated around from tombstone to tombstone, from grass patch to grass patch, enjoying his time up on the mountain.[break][break]

Izzy didn't mind it much - ghost stories and things had never really frightened him, though fog and darkness was something uncommon after living in two big cities where lights never seemed to go out. There were usually wild pokemon hanging about, sometimes other trainers or civilians paying respects or looking to chat. Izzy could deal with it - he didn't enjoy the chat, per se, but he wouldn't deny it was sometimes... nice. Graveyards and the like tended to bring all kinds of people, which made for some interesting people-watching.[break][break]

...He didn't expect, however, to encounter, uh... the dude from his bank's commercials? Like, seriously, the dude who was on the tv ads sometimes? Wasn't there literally a poster of him at the bank?
