Rae’s happy that she could get a laugh out of her date. She knows getting a joke off will make the rest of it go a lot smoother but she didn’t expect to spit out a line so suave. Or cheesy. Probably cheesy, but she likes to think she can flirt sometimes. [break]



“Heh, thanks! Guess it just came to me,” she laughs. Compared to her, Cyg oozes charm and appeal and she can’t help but staring at her. It takes longer than she would’ve liked for her to respond as she’s lost looking at her date. [break]

After her last date with where they agreed to be rivals in the gym challenge, she’s pumped up, ready to fight something, and overall full of energy. She’s got a big dopey smile on her face and her cheeks are tinged a little pink. She’s twitchy and fidgeting with her thumbs, lost trying to plan exactly how she’s gonna win their little bet. [break]

She breaks out of her thoughts at Cygne’s introduction. “Oh! Not much, haha. Just sitting across from a beautiful lady. How about you?”

She looks down at the badge, studying it intently. It looks so good on him (not like he needs the help to look good, some part of her brain thinks). But as nice as it looks pinned to him, she thinks it’d look even better if it was pinned on her coat.[break]

It was nice having someone who’d listen to hear, hear all the batshit things she wants to do and go along with them like Toshi does. Who else would agree to be her rival that quickly? “Alright then, you’re on! Melody, huh? Maybe I’ll pay her a visit soon…”[break]

And she plans on it. She’s fired up for maybe the first time since she’s moved to Hoenn, all thanks to Toshiaki. She beams at him, pure joy lighting up her face. “Toshi! Thank you so much! Expect my gift in the mail soon, kay? Next time we see each other, you’re gonna be amazed at how far I’ve come!”

 She takes the Potion from him with a nod of thanks. She didn’t know you could use these on people. She’d just toughed it out whenever she got a scrape. Her parents told her it “built character” or whatever. She stares at the bottle for a second before shrugging and pointing it at his face and spraying where he was pointing. [break]

She then turns the bottle against herself, spraying The Potion stings against her skin, causing a hiss to escape her lips. “Fuck, that burns. God damn.”[break]

She’s about to hand it back to him, but sees his pack is already on his back. She tucks it in a side pouch of her bag. Sweet! Free potion. She straps up her bag and heads up the trail, slowing down her pace a little to let him walk beside her. She has company now, no need to jog.[break]

“Alright! So, you ever done this hike before? I’m a bit new around here so I’m just scouting stuff out, y’know? The view from up here has certainly lived up to its reputation! I just can’t wait to see it from the very top.”

Rae, who already has a tight grip on whatever handle she could get her hands on, gives a quick nod of understanding. She opens her eyes before Dragonite shoots forwards, seeing Hideo casually laying back. She sees the lights on his Beheeyem blink and then…[break]

Oh god. She’s falling. She’s falling backwards and she’s gonna die and-[break]

And she hits the back of the seat, the carriage stabilizing as Dragonite hits its top speed. She’s looking up at Hideo, adrenaline coursing through her veins. She’s gonna die. She’s definitely gonna die. At least she gets to look up at the sky and not down at the ground and her impending doom.[break]

And he’s asking her questions? She barely catches what Hideo’s asking, but it carries through the wind and hits her ears. She unclenches her jaw to answer, realizing how tense she was right now. This was definitely going to hurt her when she has to play a full match later…[break]

“Yeah! Slateport has a great stadium- almost as good as the one back home in Nimbasa. I go there to play sports every so often- I have a soccer game there today that I’m a little late for!”

“Uh oh. I guess we both thought the other was a bit more knowledgeable, huh?”[break]

Well, seems like Megan has no idea either. That’s okay! At least she came with something that’ll actually work, unlike Rae. But berries… Rae pulls a ball out of her pack, holding it up. She rarely pulls this member of her party out, but if they needed berries, he’d be their best shot. “But berries. That’s not a bad idea! Here, I have someone who might be able to help. C’mon and help us out!”[break]

She tosses the ball in the air, releasing THIEF the SKWOVET. The Pokemon’s cheeks are absolutely bulging and berry juice leaks down its chin. Rae’s… not great at working with Thief, but his berries from his STUFF CHEEKS would be super useful. She bends down to talk to the Skwovet. “Listen, could we nab some of your berries? I can give you, uh…”[break]

She realizes she has nothing to bargain with. She rummages through her bag, trying to find something. “How about a granola bar? Some cookies? They’re oatmeal rasin!”[break]

Thief turns his nose up at the granola bar, but when she pulls out the cookies, Thief tears into them. As he eats, Berries fly out of his mouth, leaving at least a dozen on the ground. Rae picks them up, her hands becoming covered in berry juice and Skwovet saliva, and holds them out to Megan. “You think these'll work?”

She can only stare blankly ahead, settling back into her seat. Just how did she miss this? A whole gym circuit, a world of possibilities for her to explore and take on. A challenge. She’s an idiot for missing all this. “Well, I guess I know what I’m looking into after all this!”[break]

And she waves off his thanks, not wanting to take it. What has she done to earn it yet. “Nah, you’re the one who got me the bear. Only fair that I give you a little piece of him! Especially because I didn’t get you anything yet. Consider this a half-present to tide you over, okay?”[break]

Wait. But if Toshi’s been taking on a Gym challenge… Well, back over the table to grab him by the shirt it is. “Toshi. Have you won a badge? Let me see your badges. We’re rivals now, you hear? I’m totally gonna win em all before you. C’mon, I’ll bet you… $100 that I’m able to get through em faster than you!”

Out of the underbrush, a PANSAGE pops out. Rae's initially startled by seeing a wild Pokemon living in the middle of the city like this, the dense jungle terrain does mean it'd have plenty of places to hide...[break]

But it wouldn't be able to hide much longer. Carrie the Talonflame leaves her perch on Rae's shoulder, flying at Pansage with ridiculous amounts of speed. It dodges Pansage's VINE WHIP and the terrain on its way to its target, using its ACROBATICS to make its way through. It continues the move as it reaches Pansage, and as the grass monkey flies back, recoiling from the impact and the heat of Carrie's FLAME BODY, Rae chucks a ball, hitting it in midair. The ball collides with Pansage's temple and it's enveloped in a red light, sucking it inside of the ball.

She’s taking a rest day, so what does that mean? Why, a nice light hike of course! And what better place is there than the coolest sights in Hoenn. Rae stares up at the Tree of Life. She’d searched up a picture before she came, sure, but nothing could prepare her for the wonder that was the massive tree growing out of the middle of a city. She wonders how the hell it even got here..?[break]

Anyways, no need to delay her hike. Her trusty TALONFLAME at her side, she heads inside, ready to tackle whatever’s inside. She takes a moment to marvel at the beauty before heading in deeper, wondering what must be inside.

Blink is happy to see Toshiaki, the Absol limping over to him on his cast before nuzzling into his leg. He’s faring well after the scare the two of them had had where he’d gotten a fracture back there. She smiles, thinking about how well he’d taken it and to return Toshi’s cute gesture.[break]

“Tackling the… what?” Oh Rae. Your sweet, stupid jock mind, not even picking up the Gym challenge in the month and a half you’ve been here. She leans across the table and gently grabs the front of his shirt. “Toshi. Answer me. I gotta know what challenge there is! Me and Blink and everyone else have been doing nothing but training and I’m so bored. But a challenge?”[break]



She blushes, realizing what she's done and releasing him.[break]

“Sorry... And if I could have anything in the world… Well other than something to challenge me... Oh! I want some more of that bear you sent me!”[break]

She rummages through her bag, pulling out a plastic and smacking it down on the table. The bag falls down, revealing the gigantic head of a gummy bear. There are bite marks around the neck from where she’d eaten the gift he got her. She rips one of the ears off the bear’s head and passes it over.[break]

“Here, you’ve got to try some. Toshi, this is great.”
