Despite being on the smaller side of Pokemon in attendance, Rae’s Skwovet was doing more than its fair share of work in the eating competition. It’s CHEEK POUCHES were stuffed full of whatever was brought in front of him as he stands on the table, running around his plate frantically, taking a little bite of something before running off to something else, desperate to try all of it.[break]

It very briefly stops to SWALLOW every minute or two before continuing, replenishing its STOCKPILE in its cheeks as it goes. It stops, feeling a bit sick, before it lets out a BELCH and tucks right back into stuffing its cheeks.[break]

Even though it had eaten its full, Skwovet continues to STUFF CHEEKS, holding as much of that food for later as it could. Heck, it might even offer some to its new trainer Rae when it gets back to her!

She can’t believe it. Round two of the blind dating and he shows up. She honestly can’t believe they’d find each other here like this. is one of Rae’s few friends in Hoenn, given how recently she moved over here and how few people she’s met in her time. She’d come here to try and find some new people to hang out with, but it seems she gets Toshi instead.[break]

Not that she’s complaining. Toshi’s fun and exciting and cute (even if she’s not supposed to think that last part). She’s more than happy to spend some time with him and she’s had a grin on her face ever since she saw they’d be together, if only for a little bit.[break]

“So,” she says, popping a candy from the table in her mouth. “How’ve you been? What have you been up to? I haven't heard from you since we visited the space center!”

Blink doesn’t expect the boop/headbutt, and recoils when Na’au slams into him. But he’s quick to recover and moves back to give a tentative sniff at her, gently bopping her in the face with his paw. Rae laughs with her date partner, happy that Blink isn’t going too hard and alienating their first blind date partner.[break]

His comment on being with her during monsoon season makes her cheeks turn a bit pink, but her thoughts are interrupted by the ring of an alarm, signalling their time is up. “Well! It was really nice talkin’ with you about home. Not too often I get to do that. I’d love to meet up with you! Maybe we can both get some stuff from back home shipped out here and do a taste test!”[break]

She takes the slip of paper from him, quickly typing his number in and sending him a text with just an emoji of an arm flexing. She looks up at him with a wink.[break]

“See you later, alright?”

She laughs. She’s trying to act cool. As cool as someone can act in a science museum. “I’d like to hear that. I’ll give you five bucks if you correct something one of the intercoms says.”[break][break]

She sees him staring at a crowd of kids, one adult in the center of the mob. What was he… Oh. She sees him look away from it, a blush on his cheeks. He looks like a sad puppy.[break][break]

Okay. Well, she’s not gonna deny him what he wants. The idiot.[break][break]


“Hey. Run on to see the rocks, I gotta use the bathroom real quick. I’ll catch up with you there and you can nerd out to me then.”[break][break]


She walks off, ducking behind a corner and watching him. She’s not that stealthy, so he might be able to see her head poke out around the corner every minute if he’s watching. Once he leaves the room, she doubles back around, shoving her way through the mob of children and pays for a pair of balloons, taking a Solrock and a Lunatone balloon from the salesman.[break][break]


Pleased with herself, she follows the signs to the lunar exhibit, where she hopes Toshi will be. And of course, there he is, his head poking above the crowd.[break][break]


“Yo! Spaceman!” She shouts, waving out to him. “I gotcha something! Which one do you want?”[break]

Blink, for what it’s worth, does his best to not push the boundaries with Na’au. But every time the Sylveon moves away, he instinctively takes a step forward to stay a little closer.[break]


Rae misses this, instead thinking of home. “I guess some parts are as busy- Slateport’s nice but doesn’t have the same kinda sprawl, y’know? And I’ll take some sand in my shoe over the seasons. Those weather fluctuations get weird sometimes.”[break]


She picks up one of the fancy candies, popping it in her mouth. The taste is sweet and she can tell it's fancy, but…[break]


“Oh, the food… Not much is different, Unova being the melting pot or whatever, but one thing I miss? Casteliacones. They sell ice cream here, sure, but it’s nothing like the real sweetness of the original in Castelia City. I totally feel you with not being able to get it right. Sometimes I feel like I’d rather have nothing than one of these knockoffs, y’know?”

Rae stands out in the pasture behind the Day Care, looking out at the Pangoros milling about. Certainly not doing what they were supposed to be doing. The winter sun was shining down, keeping the day relatively warm for February, and Rae has shed her jacket to leave her in just a tank top.[break]

At first she thought this was gonna be easy money, just pick them up and shove em together maybe have to guide them together a little bit, but now that she sees the Pangoro, she’s doubting the validity of that plan. The Pangoro are big. And they don’t seem too happy, stomping around the pasture and ignoring each other. Well. She’s out of ideas. [break]

She turns to the other person who responded to the ad, trying to gauge whether or not she has any clue as to what to do. She can’t seem to read her, though. She slides up closer to the other woman. [break]

“Sooooooo…. Any plans? These guys don't really seem like they wanna get it on…”

His response is so earnest and confident, she can’t help but be convinced at his qualifications to fly. He’s done it before, he can definitely get her there safely. She looks at his Dragonite, sees it smile. It also seems nice enough. The faster it goes, the faster she’s back on the ground, right? She has nothing to worry about.[break]

And it sounds like he’s ready for her. “Alright. Great! Perfect! It sounds like you got it under control then. I don’t have the app so I’ll pay you when we get there, alright?”[break]

She looks at the box. Looks sturdy enough, right? It looks comfortable and the mounting where the Pokemon holds on to it seems sturdy.[break]

“So I just, uh… Get in then. Okay!”[break]

She climbs in the door, taking a seat on the bench within. The carriage shakes as the Dragonite takes hold of it and she feels herself tense up. She feels a gust of wind from it starting to get ready to go. She grits her teeth. When she feels the carriage leave the ground, she reaches for the closest handhold and grips it tightly, her knuckles turning a bright white. Her gaze is fixed forward as she does her best to avoid looking out the window and down at the ground below.

She smiles at him. “Nice to meet’cha Emma! And you too Na’au! Oh, she’s so sweet! Oh and this? Nothing special! I just tossed something on. You look great though!”[break]

As she talks, Blink senses the movement and hops off of Rae’s lap, stretching out before trotting around the table. She plops down next to Emma and looks up at Na’au silently. Rae realizes this and tries to call him back to little success.[break]

“Oh, I’m sorry about him! He’s a little bit nosy. We’re from Nimbasa, in Unova! I miss the hustle and bustle of Unova sometimes, y’know? There’s no place like home and all that. I’m sure you must miss home too, though. I’ve heard Alola is absolutely beautiful. You’re so lucky to have grown up around there!”

Rae’s waiting for her first date of this whole thing. Her Absol is draped across her lap, lazily looking around the room. She’s petting him and rubbing patterns into his fur, glancing around the room to catch the vibe of the whole thing. She can’t really make it out. [break]


So when she sees someone coming towards her, holding a Sylveon that looks very unamused with the situation, she can’t help but let out a chuckle. She raises a hand in a wave at the person as they get close. “Yo! What’s up? Name’s Rae.” Her Absol looks up, making eye contact with the Sylveon. “This is Blink, my Absol. Who’s that you got with you?”

she's so worried about what matilda must think about her
MISSION

Rae paces back and forth as Matilda kneels down next to her Absol, sharply inhaling in panic any time she touches her Pokemon’s injured leg. She really hoped it wasn’t hurting him much, but Matilda’s diagnosis makes her heart plummet. She almost doesn’t catch Matilda asking about how often she battles through the thoughts swirling around her head.[break]

“Battling? I mean, sometimes we do but… we haven’t for a while. I’ve thought about taking on the gyms but haven’t gotten around to it, y’know?” She rolls out her shoulders, trying to do anything to stay moving, anything to keep her from thinking about her Pokemon laying on the ground in front of her. “I’m an athlete, and when I go for a run Blink likes to come with me, stretch his legs, y’know? I guess I must’ve pushed him too hard or didn’t see he wanted to stop or somethin…”[break]

She avoids Matilda’s gaze, ashamed of herself. She really cares about her Pokemon and it’s killing her to see him like this. “I’m sorry. I know it’s my fault he got hurt. Please, if you can, just help him and I promise I’ll get him to take it easy.”
