"I don't," Tempest Quinn says and Ollie doesn't get it. Frustration rises high and sharp in the Head Ranger's emerald gaze, gripping the other man's shoulders in an act of desperation. He doesn't get it. He doesn't get why any of this has to happen, why they have to fight.

[break][break] To him, it is simple. If you don't want to fight, just don't.

[break][break] "Then don't! Stop fighting, just stop doing all the things you don't want to do. We can help you. We can —"

[break][break] But Penny always sees the things that he can't. She can always see the brewing storm when all he sees his sun.

[break][break] "Get OFF OF HIM!"

[break][break] Magma beneath their feet, fierce and hot, scalding heat that burns away the vines encasing the Head Ranger in place. But it burns other things too, his legs, his skin, the things holding him in place. An involuntary scream tore from his throat as he staggered backward, creating a momentary opening for someone to move past him. In the blink of an eye, a crude, hardened blade flashed, and blood spurted from the open wound like the eruption of a volcano's fiery tip.

[break][break] His eyes widened.

[break][break] "Penny —"

[break][break] Suddenly, the earth beneath them fissures into the sight of a giant rock dome, casting them into shadow. The only thing that Ollie could see was the feeling of sweltering heat and burning rock beneath his feet.

[break][break] His eyes snap to the sight, first, of an unknown Rocket (Belial Stone) and then the sight of @tempest reaching forward to choke her with extended arms. A fierce feeling of loyalty and resentment rises sharp and strong in the Head Ranger's chest and before he knows it, a fist is raised to slam into the other man's face. Pink light glows between his Wyrdeer's golden horns as it aims a SHADOW BALL, either to blast against the Rockets or into the rock wall that keeps them encased in this fiery hell.

He had enrolled because he wanted to meet more people — because he needed to get his mind off things — and figured that whatever experience gained in the process would be good enough for him.

[break][break] And then, on that tiny piece of paper with his next opponent's name on it, he had seen the words in simple print.

Didn't know the reason for the uneasy way that he stood at the opposite end of the arena, as if he was waiting on his first date, or waiting for Pa to scold him over something stupid he'd done. Maybe it was a bit of both. 'No, that's stupid,' he chided himself. He and Caleb - there was nothing wrong. There was never anything wrong, when it came to the two of them.

[break][break] "Caleb," he greeted, warmly. An attempt, at least. He approached the other man, easily, as if nothing at all was the matter. And maybe he wished it hard enough, it would come true.

Over the roar of battle, several things happen at once. The world warps and shifts around them as pokemon and legendary converge upon the battle field, and the Head Ranger watches several masked men crumple at the feet of MESPIRIT, moaning with pain as confusion overtakes them.

[break][break] He might be distracted, if not for the sudden vines that threaten to impose upon his shield, the glowing horns of his Wyrdeer keeping them at bay.

[break][break] Emerald eyes flash at the sight of a dark-skinned Rocket come racing for them. Ollie recognizes him only briefly - from the events of that island battle - only before he pulls his lips back into a sharp command.

[break][break] "Mocha!" Within the barrier, the Wyrdeer turns sharply on it's heel. Pink light warps around him in bright rings as a HYPNOSIS pulses towards the charging man. Whether or not it'll strike true, Ollie braces himself for impact. His hands grapple around the other man's shoulders, channeling strength gained from years of rock climbing and sports. As vines snake around his legs, the ranger's feet are planted solidly against the ground as he takes in the fierce tackle, unrelenting in his ability to be pushed from PENELOPE LIVY's side.

[break][break] "That sounds so good, I can't wait - oi! Tofu!" Distracted by the temptation of sweets, he got too distracted and almost forgot that he was in a battle. Ollie quickly grasped his Dynamax band and triggered it, consuming the small Pikachu in light that quickly tripled it in size. The tail that the Incineroar had in it's hands grew too, to a catastrophic amount, just a violent DISCHARGE broke across the earth.
