Nomi's brow furrowed as the scenery around the two women began to change. What had been a peaceful hearth-fire within a cozy forge had transformed into a dark and deadly warfront.[break][break]
An extremely familiar warfront.[break][break]
Through the din of battle and the incomprehensible power that was Necrozma's rage, it was not lost on Nomi that Aurelie had positioned herself into a protective stance - in front of the Head Scientist. A blush colored Nomi's cheeks in response, and her chest ached with a sudden sorrowful longing. Parker should be here, she thought. And even as that thought surfaced, another followed in its place: But if she were here, she'd have to fight, and then she'd - [break][break]
Nomi shivered.[break][break]
"I remember," she whispered, throat suddenly dry. "We lost so many. And others were injured. We were all forever changed by this battle...and the ones that followed..."[break][break]
Aurelie mentioned the crystals, then, and Nomi eagerly latched onto her line of thinking - anything was better than focusing on the horrors of war (the ways I failed Parker).[break][break]
"Yes, they were beautiful," Nomi agreed. "But I did not forge only weapons and shields. I made for myself a circlet. And for my - " wife? " - girlfriend, Parker, I made a pair of gauntlets. To name a few."[break][break]
But then her face fell slightly at the mention of her notes.[break][break]
"Of course you can work with me on this. That's what I wanted. You see, my research is unfortunately incomplete. So we need to try and fill in the gaps."[break][break]
(FERNANDO SILPH's voice, then, in the back of her mind: "The cost is too great.")[break][break]
"Interdream mist cannot hurt us on its own, but it can manifest things that can - such as Paradox Pokemon," she continued, ignoring the sudden memory of the Councilman's cautionary rebuttal. "Rather than hide, why don't I..."[break][break]
Nomi focused, Kallistatus drifting closer, sensing her desire to alter reality. She sent psychic feelers out to the mist, mentally poking at it. Show us the constellations, she urged.[break][break]
"...change things."[break][break]
All around the Rockets, the warfront faded away. They soon found themselves standing amidst a quiet, lonely field littered with black crystals. Stars winked down from above them. Not just any stars. Specific formations.[break][break]
"What about these? Anything look familiar to you?" Nomi murmured, crimson eyes drinking in the sky. "My field journal had drawings of these too. I wonder if they're connected to the Infinity Energy infusion..."

Lilac, distraught due to the escaping Sharpedo, took the SUPERSONIC head-on and was soon overcome by confusion. Instead of pursue the Seaking or the man on the Sharpedo, the Starmie retreated towards the boat, thoroughly disoriented.[break][break]
Kallistatus was also forced to retreat, in order to avoid getting blasted by the WATER PULSE. The shiny Unown-K blinked away, reappearing next to Nomi. She sighed, frustration growing. This man was relentless and a talented trainer. She might not be able to defeat him, so escape seemed to be her best option.[break][break]
Doubling down on her efforts to make it to the island, she recalled Lilac to its Pokeball, then focused her mind on the approaching man and his Pokemon. "Python, attack them," she commanded the Iron Jugulis. Its heads regarded her curiously - it knew that if it ended the TAILWIND then the ship would slow again.[break][break]
"Don't worry, I have a plan."[break][break]
The mechanical dragon switched gears, the gusts of wind dying down as it summoned a TRI-ATTACK. Electricity crackled as energy rocketed towards the Seaking and the Sharpedo. In the meantime, Nomi held out a hand, focusing on the expanse of ocean separating her from her pursuer.[break][break]
And then she willed reality to change.[break][break]
Waves transformed and the water behind the ship solidified into blocks of towering crystals. Glimmering spires jutted out of the sea, cutting off the man's path to the ship. Nomi smiled, satisfied, even as sweat beaded across her forehead. She felt suddenly fatigued, but at least now, she ought to be able to escape.

The Admin's praise was not lost on Nomi. She couldn't help but smile as she recognized the sincere pride behind his words. He was not the sort of man who gave out genuine compliments often, more likely to scald a person with his biting wit.[break][break]
"Certainly they can," she answered pleasantly, as if she were not about to rewrite reality. "Anything is possible if we will it."[break][break]
We meaning her and the Unown. They were the same now: she was part of their collective.[break][break]
Nomi released several more of her Unown: Delta, Gamma, Nu and Watt. They joined Kallistatus in hovering around BARNABY FINCH and his Iron Bundle, glowing with a soft blue power. Together with Nomi, they willed a temporary portal into existence. The shimmering blue gateway, a ripped hole in space, would lead any who entered from this part of the island to the beach where the Rangers resided. If one looked into it, they would see the destination, like viewing the beach through a window.[break][break]
"A dimensional door of sorts," Nomi explained, pleased. Sweat beaded on her forehead and she felt suddenly exhausted. She ignored it in favor of focusing on their mission. "Take that to the Rangers, Admin. I'll follow behind you using my own teleportation ability."

Nomi quickly realized that the sudden appearance of the Sandy Shocks would provide her the opening she needed to escape further scrutiny by her impromptu "captor." She didn't necessarily want him to suffer for it, however, and she also did not want the cave entrance to collapse lest she find a way back here later, once the man was gone. So, before slipping away, she telepathically commanded Kallistatus to aid the Igknight.[break][break]
Dark obsidian crystals coalesced around the shiny Unown-K as it Terastallized. Reflecting the dim light of the SOLAR Blade, Kallistatus sent a DARK TERA BLAST at the Sandy Shocks. The energy collided with it, pushing it back. Rocks rained down around Nomi and the League man, and she covered her head with one hand to avoid getting hit. As she did, she quietly backed away from him, towards the mouth of the cave.[break][break]
"Time to leave," she murmured to herself, taking out a Pokeball. With a flash of light, her Marshadow appeared. Using her teleportation power would be too risky now - not only was she still perfecting it, but she did not want the man ahead of her to notice the ability.[break][break]
"Get me out of here," she requested. Summoning a PHANTOM FORCE, the mythical ghost whisked Nomi and her equipment out of the cave and away from the action. In her mind, she called to Kallistatus, letting it know where she'd escaped to. The Unown-K would join her in due time.[break][break]
Make sure he gets out of there okay, she told it. Then meet me back by the beach.[break][break]
And with that, Nomi retreated, accepting the delay and resolving to find a different way beneath the island as soon as possible.

He recalled the Perrserker with a flash of light and did not summon another fighter. Instead, he left himself vulnerable, in pursuit of answers rather than spilled blood.[break][break]
Which, naturally, earned her respect.[break][break]
Nomi stopped once she'd reached her equipment, then turned towards her former adversary and relaxed her stance. She held up a hand, telepathically commanding her Unown to stand down. The Terastallized Alpha blinked to her side, the rest of the small army of Unown floating over to hover above the stacked crates.[break][break]
"Now you are asking the right question," she smiled back, and though her mask hid most of the expression, her eyes conveyed her approval. "You don't have to be a genius. All you have to do is pay attention."[break][break]
Nomi glanced at the island ahead of the ship: a place brimming with possibility turned faction warfront. It was much closer than it had been. As their so-called battle had taken place, the ship had reached its destination.[break][break]
"When you rejoin your comrades on the island, if you encounter any Unown that are not with me - that are not with Rocket - you should take heed. They are likely spies for the DRK Triad. I am doing my best to win them all to my side, but until I can convince them, they will herald the arrival of Hoenn's greatest threat."[break][break]
She regarded the man before her, weighing his merit.[break][break]
"And when you inevitably report to your superiors that there is an Avatar of the Unown allied with Rocket, tell them that she is one of the only things standing between that threat and Hoenn."[break][break]
She smiled once more, and subtly touched her hand to the crates.[break][break]
"Tell them that the Unown call me The Visionary, and I am not your enemy - so long as you keep that promise of not getting in my way."[break][break]
And then, willing reality to bend to her will, Nomi, her Unown, and her equipment simply disappeared, teleporting off the ship and onto the island in the blink of an eye.

He rattled off Hoenn's various phenomena like they were items on a grocery list. Each one in its totality would baffle any ordinary person, but Nomi had to admit that his overall point had merit. If not for them - the brilliant minds that had already found countless ways of containing these dangerous energies, transforming them into more useful modalities - then who would protect Hoenn?[break][break]
But wasn't that also her point?[break][break]
"Terastallization is possible for the regular citizen due to Tera Orbs," she pressed. She'd worked on them herself, after all. "Mega Evolution requires a Mega Accessory. Even the Pokeball is a device that can bottle the power of any given Pokemon, so that even children can catch them."[break][break]
She looked to him, expression defiant.[break][break]
"So why not do as I suggest, and create a way for Infinity Energy to become similarly functional? Aren't we the ones who ought to at least try?"

They returned to the exact spot they'd left: the mysterious island with its enticing energy, the salty sea breeze tingling Nomi's nose. She teetered just slightly before regaining her footing, grasping onto Cillian's arm for balance. It was still a somewhat jarring experience - the transfer from one dimension to another. She wondered if she would ever get used to it.[break][break]
"I don't know," she answered honestly. "All I know is, if I linger too long there, I start to feel the presence of...something else. Something that's not the Unown. It perceives me and I can tell it...doesn't want me there?" She frowned. That wasn't quite it.[break][break]
"Anyway, there's more to discover there. Just like there is here." Her eyes swept their surroundings, as if seeing everything for the first time. A cave entrance...they needed to find one. That's why they were here, wasn't it? To get below the ground, find the source of the power hidden here.[break][break]
"I'm glad I was able to show you," Nomi murmured, glancing back at Cillian, a sincere smile dancing across her lips.

Parker didn't need to squeeze too hard to hurt Nomi; her dismissal of Nomi's observation (no, avoidance) was enough to elicit a horrible ache in the younger woman's chest. Nomi balled her hands into tight fists, not caring if she drew blood with her nails. Her head pounded, and her throat was so dry it was painful to swallow. Whatever she'd done with the crystals had utterly drained her of energy, and apparently, dehydrated her.[break][break]
"Rocket would be foolish to waste further resources on trying to eliminate Isaac," She realized, a new train of thought occurring to her as she clawed frantically away from the sinkhole that was the truth behind Parker's words. Cillian might listen, but would THEO BECKETT? Would Elisabeth Fiorelli? Would Zev Harcourt? Would declan walsh? She couldn't convince them all, not when the conflict with the League was so ingrained in their identities. Not when, for so many of them, this was personal.[break][break]
"This is bigger than Isaac," She continued, drinking up her own words like they were the water her body so desperately needed. "He's an Avatar now. Holo feared that outcome the same way she feared me winning the favor of the Unown. The DRK Triad have tried - and succeeded - in killing Isaac in every other universe, Parker. What would it mean for things to be different this time? That should be our priority, no matter how stupid he was to leave, no matter how much danger it might put us in to - "[break][break]
She knew, with utter certainty - as one tends to sniff out tragedy just as its about to claim them - that Parker would not understand her words, would not register them. And for the first time since falling so deeply in love with her (it's love, that's what this is, or it wouldn't hurt so badly), Nomi felt frustrated.[break][break]
Frustrated by Parker's simplistic view of things.

Nomi ran her hand over the strangely familiar hieroglyph engraved into the smooth stone. Despite the din of battle raging all around her, she could not rip her eyes away from it. Something nagged at her mind, drew it back to a snowy landscape fraught with toxic sludge, the corrosion attempting to eat away at the foundations of the city that slept there.[break][break]
"Eternatus," she breathed, remembering. "The Skeleton..."[break][break]
She turned towards Lulu Flint, hoping to relay her sudden revelation, but a blast of intense heat nearly knocked her off her feet. Violet, quick to defend her mistress, rushed down from her higher vantage point to unfurl lavender wings around Nomi. The Venomoth screeched in protest, then summoned a powerful wave of PSYCHIC energy, targeting the nearest League operative hoping to sabotage Rocket's advancement.[break][break]
Nomi grit her teeth, pressing her body against the door, the words interpreted by howard slayte ringing ominously in her mind.[break][break]
An easy path for some means hardship for others...

Alpha drifted closer to Nomi's precious cargo, turning its unblinking, neutral eye on her adversary, still shimmering with frost-white power in the wake of the Kingambit's defeat. It would continue to defend her equipment no matter what Navy tried next.[break][break]
In response to his comment, however, Nomi actually laughed. It was strained - part genuine amusement, part exasperation.[break][break]

"You're fighting a losing battle with me, when you could be aiding the region by focusing your efforts on what actually plagues us. The conflict between the League and Rocket feels like a well-orchestrated distraction, no?"[break][break]
Nomi began walking calmly towards the crates, hoping her speech would keep his attention long enough for her to reach them.[break][break]
"So yes, I would let you go. Make yourself useful elsewhere. Leave me and my colleagues alone. I seek only discovery, not the deaths of League gym leaders."[break][break]
That wouldn't stop her from hurting him, however. If that's what it took. Her remaining Unown began to charge once more, targeting the Perrserker. Tormund could try to pick them off one by one, but in the end, she would simply release more Unown, for she had the entire alphabet at her disposal. They would be more than enough to counter anything else Navy threw at her.[break][break]

Kallistatus drifted all the way over to Nomi's face, then touched her forehead with one of its K-shaped limbs. As it did, she got a sudden flash of intuition, of understanding. It would do as she asked. Not only that, it believed in her. It shared her resolve.[break][break]
She smiled softly. Parker would be angry, but Nomi would help her understand. And when she finally confronted Isaac, she'd...[break][break]
Well, she didn't know exactly.[break][break]
A shiver passed through her as Kallistatus blinked out of existence. Alone in the forest, Nomi listened to the chirps and clicks of the wildlife that surrounded her. After several long moments, she turned on her heel and began to walk back the way she had originally come. As she did, she nearly tripped over a small creature directly in her path.[break][break]
A blood red Tarountula, staring up at her expectantly. An omen, she thought. For or good or for ill?[break][break]
She threw her last remaining Safari Ball.

Kallistatus bobbed up and down in agreement. Nomi let out a sigh of relief, a breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding onto so tightly.[break][break]
"Suicune may notice you. If it does, try not to interfere. Show it that you are not a threat. I think it...has some sort of connection to you, doesn't it?" To the Unown as a collective, she meant. Kallistatus blinked, as if contemplating her hypothesis.[break][break]
A cawing heralded the flurry of feathers as a Murkrow landed on a nearby branch. It glared at Kallistatus as if offended by the shiny Unown's presence. Nomi was surprised to see that it was a brilliant shining purple instead of the usual dull black. Another interesting find. She hurled one of her two remaining Safari Balls at it.

Nomi frowned, then let out a small huff as he passed right by her. He wore his arrogance around his shoulders like a brightly colored cloak, but could she really blame him for it? The world had named him their savior, and his identity was dependent on whether or not he continued to accept that mantle.[break][break]
She almost let him go. It would be easy enough to end things here; Parker would certainly be happier for it.[break][break]
"Your priority is Hoenn's safety," she noted decisively, catching up to him in just a few footfalls. "That much is obvious."[break][break]
They passed a stand selling cotton candy, and Nomi's gaze drifted over a pair of freckled children begging their mother to let them buy a sugary treat.[break][break]
"Z-Crystals and Sygna Suits are rare and expensive. They are privileges of the elite," Nomi continued, tone matter-of-fact, undeterred by his harsh dismissal. "An ordinary citizen does not have access to such power. But if one were to infuse Infinity Energy into ordinary objects - common weapons, like knives, or police body armor, or even a pair of gloves...well. Wouldn't that give the regular people of Hoenn - " not people like you " - more of a fighting chance against these other universes and dimensional instabilities?"[break][break]
