It's morning. Foggy. Slateport is fine, but... this place was a shitshow. League barely gives a damn about the graves here. Probably because they were all shit people. Ash would know. He had been here three times now. The first time? Staying overnight as a teenager. Got the shit scared right out of him. The last two times, though... he saw the one tombstone he despised.

Least it matched his mood. Wearing a black hoodie, he makes sure the hood is up as he enjoys one last cigarette. He swears this time he'll quit. This time he'll do it.

Bullshit, every time.

He needs to meet with someone. The only person he sees as a father figure. Sad, isn't it? What a shit father figure. But even Theo had some level of growth. He shows mercy. But at the end of the day, they all deserved to be buried here, at the end of the road. With the shit people. At least Theo softened up. But not her.

Ashley scowls at the thought of going there. He bites his bottom lip. He clinches his fist. His newly dyed-black hair is hanging in front of his face, his silver eyes showing the hatred he felt. He was anger. He was rage. He was fury. It all goes away. It evaporates.

She's already dead. He could piss on her grave. He could break the tombstone with a well-aimed kick. He could dance atop of it, but it doesn't matter. She's 6 feet under now. Has been for years now.

Initially, Ashley would have been taken aback by that mercy. Not now. Theo grew softer. Considering the shit he had done, yeah, probably good. Too little too late though. His mind is made up, and as he chuckles, he remarks. "Tried that already. Been here since I left. But it hasn't helped fix it. Sides. jayden cross nearly killed me the other day. Blame him."

He turns his head only slightly towards Theo. He doesn't look at him.

"Stop trying to act like a half-decent father now. This is how life is." Mistakes come back to haunt the ones who make them. But he knew that.

He turns on his own heel and begins to walk away, silver eyes changed in how they shine. Colder. More cynical. They lost their luster.

"Later." He was already walking, hands in his pockets. He was a Rocket. He never left. He just didn't have the spine to be one before. That was over now.

The dome was symbolic. It was a trap. A means to keep him trapped. In all actuality, he never answered Theo's question. A year ago, he might have thought it was a great idea, being a barrier between him and Rocket. Now, he didn't care. It was all cancer. Every bit, every inch. The League couldn't put them down, and they failed everywhere else to boot. There were some good ones. Officer blythe rosewood , Shalin Nariya , Julia Davis , Tam Fawley , and Greyson Connors come to mind. Good people. But it didn't matter. None of them could put Rocket in the ground. This dome was a trap, and the perfect storm led him here.

Die old. Or go out in a blaze.

Wait.

It was over. Theo was walking away. Mercy. Years prior, Ash would have found himself punished. Mercy would have been removed from the equation. He was almost expecting Theo to pull out a firearm and end him. Ashley's face is matted in sweat, and then...

Nothing.

Theo walks away. With it, came freedom. The bindings to the soul removed from his hands. His silver eyes look to his wrists. His pride shattered. The shackles are still there. Even though he knew Theo was letting him walk, he still felt trapped. His pride kept him bound. No. That wasn't right.

It was Ash's guilt that made him a prisoner to his own resolve.

"No. We're not." Ash stares at the ocean. He doesn't turn to Theo. "Our deal was in the case of my loss, I would come back. I won't back down on conviction." He takes a breath in, and just says it plainly. "You believe in a hell, we're all probably going there. The people I killed aren't coming back. The ones you killed and damned aren't either."

He returns Bongo, Reinhardt, and Pulse. He still remains, eyes to the sea. "Might as well set ablaze. Beats killing myself slowly trying to find empty redemption." His eyes narrow, his resolve rekindling itself.

OC-TOBER

Character: Ashley Shepard

Day 1- Intro
A Kanto-era Rocket deserter who left for Hoenn, haunted by the past and confronted with his desire to be a good person. An orphan by parent's choice and not by the lack-thereof, Ashley ran away from it all in an attempt to become a person that he could respect, but with a self-mutilating nature of thinking he deserves every bit of pain he has received since, he isn't getting closer. He's only pushing himself to higher and higher standards.

He knows this, especially after his run-in with jayden cross in a lighthouse, when he was ready to die but lived. So when the closest thing to a father figure in THEO BECKETT sees him for the first time, he makes the ultimatum. Either he burns Rocket and walks, or he burns, and walks back into the organization he deserted.

How do you think that went?

Day 2: Starter
First Pokemon was this little Pichu after he joined Rocket. They were inseparable together. Often, they would snooze and watch stuff when off mission, but when on missions the duo were very compatible. She evolved quickly to a Pikachu, and soon after an Alolan Raichu. It was like having a little sister, and Ashley felt happy. He had purpose, and someone he loved like family.

And then THEO BECKETT took it away from him. More accurately, Ashley was to take her life in front of him as punishment for failure. With it, he became a much more damaged individual. This is where his guilt truly began, and the deeply rooted problems within him.

Day 3: Childhood
Foster children have a really complicated life. Their parents either never wanted them, never deserved them, or never met them. To Ashley, those are the three realities he dealt with. Never meeting his parents, he was in the foster care system early, and he always considered each family a dice roll. It just happened he kept rolling closer to snake-eyes than the twelve most were lucky to get. As such, he was forced to grow up quickly, especially when he left his last home.

When he was in his teens, he met THEO BECKETT to join Rocket in Saffron City, Kanto, and he was going to make a name for himself and get the chance his parents never let him have. The naivety of a boy who believed himself to be able to do it all... sometime in that time he meets jayden cross .

Day 4: Best Friend
Thing is, Isaac Merlo has really been one of the first humans he has gotten to speak with. He's been there for him, and saved his ass from the frying pan. Makes you think, it's truly hard to find a homie like that. With Isaac, he feels he has a best friend that he can rely on. Now defecting back to Rocket, it only makes it stronger.

But, before, he had another best friend. jayden cross was someone who was important to him, but after his desertion of Rocket, they lost contact. Out of choice. Now, however, he finds himself have to question it. Ashley will still look forward to more friends. Maybe more, who is to say?

Day 5: Talent
Ash's talent comes in an interesting form. The moment he left Rocket and was able to live his own life, he realized there was an entire world of culinary arts. Had he the chance to make something of himself, he would have gone to school for it. The moment he puts his pink apron on, and gets to work, he's making the kitchen smell better than a date.

He makes an excellent chef in the kitchen, and with the money he made from his earlier time in Rocket, he was able to buy the tools. Watching food channels, buying cook books, he must have tried for ages. Guy spends weeks trying to make food better than what you find in a restaurant, and he threw himself headfirst into it.

Day 6: Favorite Pokemon
Thing is, Ashley doesn't play favorites. Instead, his newest housemate is an egg he had found during Splashfest. On the beach, it had been alone and abandoned. So, he decided since he stayed with it all day instead of continuing his failed Magikarp Splash streak, to take it with him. After he got home, he even forked over money for a small incubator. It sit in his room, until a fateful day.

He had gone out for lunch with a friend, but they flaked. Instead, he runs into Isaac Merlo and kepler brueshaber, and after getting groceries, they hop over to his place, where the egg is just minutes away from hatching. Ashley dons his pink apron, and begins making sushi, when the new housemate pops out of his shell- literally!

Day 7: Free Space!
So, if he's got his headphones on, he's got a few genres to choose from. Ashley enjoys rap, K-Pop, and R-and-B. Though he tries to enjoy all kinds of music, he still makes the preference to anything with lyrics to the instrumental side of things. Often, he'll mouth the lyrics to himself, but he's not the type to sing it. Serenading is a little cheesy, and he'd have to be awfully smitten to want to do that.

Hey, that's just fine. He likes having it to himself, in his own presence. Often, since he lives alone, he sings in the shower. Yes. He does do that. Is he good at it? I give him a six out of ten. He's not trained, but he's got the emotion right to get it down. A bit of a huskier voice to him, Ashley is a baritone.

Day 8: Pokemon Center
First time Ashley ever went to the Pokemon Center was for Jubilee when she was sick. Little Pichu had a massive fever, to the point that teenage Ashley ran there in just pants and a single shoe. Probably ran a marathon that day by himself. But the good news was, Jubilee was fine! She just had a cold, nothing big!

But that night, Ashley got a cold himself. Guy was so sick from running in the freezing cold in just pants and a single shoe that he had gotten something while there. But Jubilee took care of the poor guy.

Day 9: First Victory

"-SO YOU'LL HAVE TO FUCK SIDEWAYS!" was the last thing he screamed to high heavens and Arceus, as he felt feeling back in his foot. Ashley now laying upon the floor, as Isaac looked over the foot. The electricity left safely from his body and into a ground state, so there was no chance it hit his heart, but it was like taking a taser to the foot five times in a row at the same spot.

When he asks, Ash responds with a nod before speaking. His cursing came to an end finally. "Yeah. I'm good, man. Appreciate." He throws his fist into the wall, scaring a Charjabug who had been curious and uncertain what had happened.

Bongo and Conga both would proceed to do something for Isaac, since he was the worst off of the two. The duo reached into Ash's bag, and both pull out one finger sandwich a piece, both handing them over towards Isaac, as Reinhardt made a nod nearby, chasing off any stragglers that got close.

"Look... they're more worried about you than me, man... hehehe." Ash begins laughing. It looks like they both have just the worst possible luck.

Theo hadn't lied. He took Ashley seriously from the get-go, and had he no so blindly jumped to challenge Theo, he might have been able to see it coming. Of course this was cheated from the start. Ashley's face contorts in panic. There was a second on the field the whole time. Bite his bottom lip, he scowls. Bongo was out cold. But Reinhardt was up against a Banette. Pulse was against the Lurantis.

It only got worse when he realizes, quickly enough, the situation he's in. If Pulse moves, Bongo goes from just being unconscious and battered, to needing a Pokemon Center. And Reinhardt is busy already.

His hands fall to his side.

The horror of this reality finally hits him.

He lost before the fight even began. Silver hair covering his face in shame. Pulse takes the Petal Blizzard, using SHOCK WAVE in an attempt to collect the petals, but it's too late. But, with as many as there were, Pulse hits the sand, sliding towards Bongo. Reinhardt though? It flings the Nidorino backwards, as he glides over the sand. He's not out, no chance no way, but the Nidorino gets up on shaky legs to prepare to fight two foes at once.

Ash didn't make a single command. He just shot himself in the foot. He was stupid. CARELESS. And now he let the bastard win again. He let him win, and there was no chance at victory.

Reinhardt takes one step back. The quadruped looks to Ashley, and smiles. Ash's silvers open a little wider. He nods back with his own smile to the Nidorino.

"I concede."

He puts his hands into his pocket. "You win. Reinhardt. Back to me." It was over. But just in case... he prepared to take a strike from a Pokemon by running to the aid. If Ash had anything left now, it was pride and resolve.

The teleport goes off pretty well, actually. For a moment there, Ashley thought he would get them to the alleyway outside, but here they were, right at the front door of the cozy little studio. The purple carpet below them was circular, and definitely made of a shoddy quality. The wooden floors had this homely feel, with some plants that seemed to be well-tended to. A small circular table with four black chairs about sat within view, as did two doors, and the kitchen. It was small, hardly a counter space, but had a stove and oven, a fridge, a sink, and a toaster. The sound of the TV on within the red-carpeted living room with its lone black-leather couch, and oddly enough, if one looked further into it, the beanbag chairs that lined the wall.

While a familiar but much taller monkey and his adopted sister were climbing above, one look into this open space showed the installed monkey bars that both were climbing round in. As Ashley calls out "Home! We got guests!", both monkeys hop off the bars, landing by the plants, and the familiar grin of Bongo resounds from the taller monkey. He had grown! He holds up a wave, as does the monkey on his shoulders, Conga.

Turning towards Kepler and Isaac, Ash pushed his silver hair out of the way and grins. "Make yourselves at home. Oh, right. Introductions." he puts a hand to his chin, gestures to all the visible Pokemon. Mostly, this was for Kep, but Isaac hadn't met a couple of them formally, like Bass.

"These two mischief seekers are Bongo and Conga. Bongo is the taller one, and Conga has the rare fur color. Over in her doggy bed in the kitchen is Juliette, and making toast is the Deedee. And in the bean bag is Maple. Isaac, you only haven't met Juliette... recommendation? Don't bother her too much." He laughs, moving to take his shoes off, as he gives a high five to both of the chimps, as he walks past.

Picking up from the side a pink apron, Ash sets the groceries down, and turns to the duo. "Oh, and Wi-Fi password is peniscolada. Network is called SilverAsh." He gives a chuckle out of the reveal.

Sweeping that under the rug, he pets Deedee, who rubs into his hand as she quietly runs away towards the bedroom, the Dedenne jumping through a small doggy-sized door, as Ash washes his hand, and pulls out a knife, spinning it in his hand with a showmanship and skill that knew he wouldn't see the sharper part of the blade- also because there was a circular hole at the hilt that allowed him to hold onto it.

Then came the rice. After rinsing it off, Ashley pours hot water in a pot over medium-high, readying to bring it to a boil as he quietly pulls a pan out for vinegar, intending to prepare sushi vinegar. He's in the zone, and as Bongo and Conga watch, he pours the salt, the sugar, and the vinegar to whisk together. The monkeys scurry away, to go watch TV, as Ash pops his head out of the kitchen.

"One of you two mind cutting up the nori? We need about... I'd say, five sheets if your Pokemon want some of it too. I'm going to smoke it when the vinegar is done! Make sure we don't risk food poisoning with raw fish." He gives a bright, happy, optimistic smile towards the duo. Then he thinks about what he said, blinks, and ponders. "... wait, would they even want Carvanha...?" He ponders this, thinking. It was fine. He could make it taste good enough, he was confident, almost arrogantly so. Then there's the ethical discussion.

And he just decides to drop it.

Mostly everyone is present.

Being at the front of the line, Ash smiles through the heat on his cheeks. Yes, his Wi-Fi password was frankly the most immature thing he ever made, but in truth, it'd make for a funny story later. Looking to Kep and Isaac, he'd sure to be razzed over it, but now he had an idea. The duo would have to type it in to get on the net. Now the gremlin was coming out. Taking a step out of the grocery store, he turns his head back, beaming to the duo.

"Cool."

To both Kep's compliance and Isaac's explanation of Echo. He knew how to describe his apartment. Bad side of Slateport, awful management, a landlady who could pass for his grandma with an attitude, the alleyway dumpster where all the trash chutes funnel into where he found Reinhardt. Then there's the building itself, on the corner of two streets, with this rustic red-brick feel to it. It was like going for a ride in a time machine, as the building was probably made maybe thirty-plus years ago. He knew how to get there. Echo surely could get the image of the front of the apartment. Been there for some years now.

With the pay out of the way, he turns to the two with confident smile. "Let's get going. Ingredients are good. Got my place in my mind." Thinking about it, he hadn't had many people over, friends or otherwise. This would be a nice change of pace!

He takes a moment to quietly contemplate saying what happened, but he decides to let that one settle. Isaac would have questions. He didn't want to have that answer. Gone. Echo could probably feel it. "Got it, little man?" He holds a fist to the little guy, readying the transport. He wouldn't give Echo the chance to question or feel lament over what must be complicated colors and emotions.

With that... the group disappears.

Shalin seemed to be panting to. This meant that Ash had a minute, which was nice. As he felt the bandage wrap around his head, Ash would begin to quietly yawn. Hopefully they could get some food later... his head wanted to at least hope there was a buffet at the end of the road. Anything to make the five or six run-ins with death nearly worth it.

The warning was unfortunately not something Ash could help. "Sorry. That's a no go for me. Biggest I have is Sushi, and well... he's a Slowpoke." Pun aside, he referred to his size. Moving from that, to Shalin checking the map gave him another moment. When she got something, he makes a nod. "Cool. Let's do it. Another five..."

After another four minutes, Ash was up, and the duo backtracks a good bit. With Queen Zing working her magic, eventually a spiral staircase reveals itself, and they made it to the second floor. When his Klefki makes a chime, and hops up to the ceiling, Ash waves to it as it seems to head off. "Thanks for the help! Be safe, okay? Stay away from predators." The Klefki was a precious little thing, and as the duo continue on, they found quite a rare treasure.

A Mega Circlet.

A whistle from Ash, he chimes out as he leans his head to the side. "That's a score alright. Nice, Shalin." As he follows... he is looking towards the prison bars around them. Unsettling... but with Shalin looking at her surroundings first before grabbing the item, he makes a sigh of relief. She was getting better at this. As he smiles, and hops onto Kiara, he smirks. "Ride like the wind, bullseye."

... he liked fun movies like that.

If this was anything like he imagined, they were going to have a boulder follow them soon enough. Ash didn't mind. Kiara was fast enough. Right?

... right?

Watson was having a laugh, and like the best friend he was, Bongo was right next to the gator, laughing up a storm, throwing his little chimp arm to the other side of the gerbil, as the Togedemaru joined it. Even Conga, his little sister, joins in the merriment. The only one to not laugh being Reinhardt, who coldly eyes for them all to be quiet.

The Nidorino still smiles all the same.

Seated now, ahead of Isaac, he would gesture towards him and sigh. "Maybe today is a bust... wish it weren't the case." He sighs, grabbing at his face. Pichu, Pikachu, Raichu. It shouldn't be that hard to find them, could it? He considers the thought process of it...

Makes sense. When he was in the cave with Greyson Connors , he said he wanted to find a dragon. Hardly found any he was looking for. Instead, he found Pluto, and some Sigilyph he hadn't even used. Sighing quietly to himself, he leans against a wall, hearing the Klang of a gear moving to and frou. It seems to be moving on a wall, like a gear itself, and while it wasn't bothering anyone, it gave Ash a stinkeye. And was charging up.

"Hey, I didn't-"

Time for payback. Ash felt himself on the receiving end of a ZAP CANNON that struck him right in the foot. And the poor guy falls over, his entire left foot numb. Crying out, Bongo jumps immediately into action, with Conga doing the same. The duo get their baseball bats (WOOD HAMMERs- plural) ready- oh shit, they were batting. And as soon as they came up to the Klang, they both slammed with the force of a homerun on steroids. To say the Klang went flying into the factory was an understatement. Sure beats a Carvanha to the arm.

It... it was in an instant. As the Taunt comes through, Pulse' Electro Ball hits the sandy beach, causing its blast of sand to throw everywhere. Reinhardt was attempting to find its target, but its HORN ATTACK was met moments too late.

In fact, as Bongo continues to beat his chest, he doesn't even see the X-Scissor coming. The moment that it comes for him, the monkey cannot bring the drumsticks up to defend himself. So he does the only other choice, throws his now-elongated arms in front of him.

The strike throws and tumbles Bongo through the sand, leaving the ape's pained eyes as a showing of incapacitation.

Ash feels it in his blood. It's... exhilirating. He eyes Theo with a quiet confidence. Reinhardt goes for the Horn Attack, aimed towards the small of the Lurantis' back, while Pulse moves to defend Bongo, moving between the monkey and the mantis.

But his Pokemon weren't battle-ready. In fact... Reinhardt was probably the most ready of the three, as Pulse was already tired from conjuring the electro ball. It wouldn't be hard to take them down.

Josh and Julia introduce themselves, with even their Pokemon being introduced. To put it bluntly, there was not a chance that Ash was going to remember all of them. He made peace with Trainer names, and one or two Pokemon. For instance, for Josh, he knows Saber and Yagyu. Saber being his most loyal partner, that was important to recall, as well as the sidearm blade Pokemon. For Julia, he makes a note of Chester and Lazuli. Lazuli, who was her Lapras and who would love the water, and Chester, the Dodrio. While he might only remember the two for now, he looked forward to learning the rest with time.

Thankfully, Bongo did a great job of that already. The little Grookey pointing to each one, and with a chitter, reciting each name in his own tongue. Yagyu, Saber, Crash, Blitz, Ares, Snacker, Chester, Sparkie, Momo, Lazuli, Spot, and Snuffles. When he finished, he bonks his little stick on a stump, as if to chime that he did it! Success!

Julia offering Momo's assistance had Ash sigh in relief. "Actually. Good point. Bongo, Bullet. Go collect some sticks? Once we have them, can you have Momo start the fire?" He's smiling wide to Julia, turning to Isaac soon after. "Mind sending Watson on some recon for some sticks? Bongo could use the company."

He turns soon after to Josh. "We'll be safe out here, so Yagyu can go too for clean cuts and easy firewood." Back to Julia. He thinks a moment, and eyes the Lucario, loosening up. "That... one... Spot. Right, Spot. Spot can go help them, if you'd like? Keep them out of trouble? More the merrier?" Bongo waves towards the quartet of Pokepals, intending to run into the woods, with Bullet cawing from above and flying into the woods.

It was a plan. While Ash could get all the foodstuffs ready, he would have time to help the others in regards to setting up tents, getting water, the like. Gave them more time to talk.

"Glad I'm not out here alone this year."
