Ash can't even focus anymore... but when hears Bullet crying as ice daggers slash through her wings, his eyes focus enough to see her fall into the stone floor. "No..." Like clockwork, there goes Sushi as well, slammed into the wall with a Shadow Punch.

Why can't... I move my legs... He had overestimated his resolve, to such a degree that all he could do was stand, and watch with triple-vision as Jayden drew the blade. Gritted teeth, he shakes.

"I know."

He says it back. He echoes that mantra. Betrayal. It was something Ash knew well, because he dug the dagger in Jayden. This was virtue's last reward for not finishing the job. He should have... he can't focus anymore. Bullet is crying on the ground nearby. Sushi is attempting to get on all fours to fight a two-on-one. Ashley submits in defeat. As his nigh-unconscious eyes gaze at Jayden, he shoots him a warm smile.

"Glad I could see you one more time... Jay."

It's going to be okay.

I deserve this.

When Jayden ends up crashing down the stairs, for a moment, Ash thinks he's done it. But Jayden is able to snatch at his shirt, and unfortunately for him with that hit he took recently, his footing is off. Ashley begins the tumble, and follows suits, only crashing a few feet away from Jayden, his head once again victim to the stonework of the lighthouse. His hair is drenched, his shirt is slightly torn, and he can taste iron.

How the hell was Ashley still alive? He could hardly breathe. But that ringing in his ears muffled Jayden's words. It was barely audible.

Fuck.

"I didn't-" He was gasping for oxygen to fill his lungs, but that task was hard. Bullet flew downwards, eyeing Jayden from above, prepared to strike. Sushi did the same, coming between the duo, angry Slowpoke eyes. "-you came here." he ends, unable to say much to anything else for the moment.

He can't get up. Arceus dammit. Did he twist his ankle? If Jayden could, that was going to be it. So he does what he has to do. Ashley through sheer force of will pulls himself to his feet using the stone wall as support. The pain in his right ankle is severe. It's like little needles are prickling right at the side of his foot, and if he's lucky, it wouldn't snap.

"Why-" he's taking in all the air his lungs can get "-is Rocket-" everything is so dizzy, he is sure he is seeing triple vision "-in Hoenn?"

Stay awake, dammit. Stay the fuck awake. Don't you dare fall unconscious. Until he kills you, don't you dare close your eyes. His head is on fire. He can't win this fight, and he knows it. He's accepting that. The window nearby might be his only chance to get out of this alive

Can he even make it?

It's not enough. Bongo, taller with two sticks, is able to block the X-Scissor, but the sheer force behind the Lurantis pushes Bongo back. And of course, Reinhardt's Toxic Spikes were rendered virtually useless by a Petal Blizzard, leaving a bead of sweat trickling down Ash's face.

"Your funeral." Pulling out not another Pokeball, but his phone. Tossing it up and out, Pulse transforms the phone, the Rotom opening up and preparing to strike. "Pulse, keep to the sky, and Electro Ball to the sand, throw as much sand up as you can. Reinhardt, look for an opening and strike the mantis with your horn. Bongo-"

He doesn't look back to the monkey, Bongo beating his chest like a gorilla already, as he looks forward towards the Lurantis. Pulse is preparing the ELECTRO BALL, and Reinhardt is prepping the HORN ATTACK

"Taunt it. Make sure it can't hear Reinhardt coming." And Bongo does as he does best, by continuing to beat his chest, releasing a TAUNT. He may be bruised, he may be bloodied, but Bongo wasn't going down without a fight.

He was rusty. He wasn't trained. Theo was still having the advantage. But he'd make sure it was a hell of a fight. "You gonna start taking me seriously, or continue to fight with just one?"

... huh. Maybe Theo did rub off on him. He would never admit that though.

Seeing as they were standing in line now to checkout, Ashley would take a step forward, and while Ash was... eyeing Mercury, he rose a brow, and considered for just a moment how... odd that was. Lots of junk food, he had to wonder about Kepler's diet. It wasn't his business though. Did have him thinking about cooking homemade chips. He'd need to buy a mandolin though.

Idea for later.

His eyes turn for a brief moment ahead of him. A grandmother paying for her grandkids who controlled the buggy, though as Kep brought up the idea of a teleport, he rubbed his chin. He wants to say no, for two reasons. Not at all because he wasn't enjoying himself. He was worried Bongo in his bigger form would do what Bongo does best, but also because he knew he'd find Sushi on the ceiling fan again.

But it was cheaper. Renting a spot was expensive, and they'd have to leave faster than he'd like. Isaac came in with the save, though part of Ash wished he didn't. "Cool... it'll be cheaper. My Pokemon will keep you company, and I got wi-fi." He freezes when he remembers what he changed the password to.

Why of all the times, did he have to get tipsy and change it to 'peniscolada'? He grabs at his face.

Mistakes were made. Oh well.

"Cool with you, Kep?" Ash asks first. He doesn't want him to be at all uncomfortable. He just met the guy! Isaac, he would have absolutely invited over, one-hundred percent. "It's small, but it's cozy." There would be no wedgies here, just soft wholesome consensual potluck invites.

Ashley doesn't mind leading and flying the the metaphorical plane, considering it seemed like that was what Isaac had planned. Especially with Kepler's stomach angrily growling like the most lively Litten he had ever heard, Ashley found it adorable and a task he was surely up to snuff for. One whiff of the good stuff, and this guy would rave about his cooking too. Maybe even not worrying over food poisoning again! Considering how he had mentioned it, Ash just hoped he hadn't gone through a bad case already.

Kepler's curiosity led to the obvious question. One he had never been asked from Isaac, or Blythe, for that matter. Where he learned. "After moving to Hoenn a few years back, I lived alone. Didn't have anyone to learn from. So, I read book after book I could get my hands on, and would spend literal days just figuring out how to cook meal after meal. Infomercials, cooking shows, you name it. I wanted to make sure I at least took care of myself. After failing enough, I started getting good at it. And then I got really good at it. Kept going for awhile, and stopped going to restaurants so much. Even stopped using my microwave."

After enough failure, he remembered the first meal he had felt proud of. With it, came his self-confidence booming in as well as his self-worth.

Thinking about it actually, once Kepler inquires with the innocent gaze and that tone, Ashley backpedals through the praise Isaac gives over something so superfluous. "Depends. Green onions have this little white bulb on the bottom, while true scallions don't. It all depends on when they're harvested. They're basically interchangeable though, or named regionally one or the other." It's trivia knowledge, really, but Ashley likes showing chops. Helps ensure he wasn't all talk. He spent hours reading book after book going back and forth.

By the time Ash finished filling his basket, it was filled with only what he needed, but he turned towards Kepler and Isaac.

"Alright, so we'll go half-n-half, Kep. Next is a venue to cook it at... we're a bit far away for my apartment. Could rent a place out for an hour or two here. Place has everything. Course I don't mind the company if you guys wanna save money?" If the duo had any better ideas, he'd absolutely hear them.

While Ashley couldn't really see inside of Shalin's current predicament, not for lack of trying but due to the precarious nature of Psybeam and pillar-like collissions causing mild dizziness and slight hysteria, Ash would be using Bongo as a means to bat these Claydol back, while in tandem, Bullet would slam into them with Quick Attack after Quick Attack. He seemed fine, save for the slightly wound on his head.

Oh shit, that's blood.

Needless to say, as it seemed Shalin had done her own battle, Ashley would eventually sit amidst the ones on the outside of the cage, laying down now after the kerfuffle. Bongo was patting Ash on the head, and Bullet merely perched on one of the unconscious Claydols. When Shalin asked how he was, his response was simple.

"Yeah. Good." He felt himself a little woozy. The ruins trying to kill them, shoot at them, the Pokemon here, everything was just... it was a lot. He hadn't felt this preoccupied since his time in Rocket, and then he had no choice but to put his life on the line. So why was he here...? Hm... the answer wasn't something Ashley wanted to confront, per se.

That he missed the danger. That he craved it. Maybe it was an atonement thing.

No use mulling over it.

"That's cool. Sorry, I think one of them slapped my head pretty hard into a pillar. Gimme a sec to get my bearings, alright?" He chimed weakly from the floor.

Bass is so ecstatic, and he's almost worried that Blythe isn't acting as giddy as she is. But the moment she enthusiastically speaks, rubbing her finger on the bat's face, the little Noibat creates with his ears a small, melodic chime, a pleased sound for the woman acting so nice to him!

Bongo takes Diantha's mantis arm, and bows quietly, shaking it. He's not going to act mischievous to this little thing. But, it is watching Ash's expression as Blythe is eating. She almost takes up the whole scene by herself. But Ash? Priceless.

The thing was, Ash knew he was great at cooking. Baking is a different skill entirely, and seeing how enthused she was, her eyes lighting up like the sun, his face has, for the first time in ages, become beet red. His cheeks heat up, and he feels embarrassed. He'd never... received such wholesome compliments before, and while appreciated, his silver eyes had to look away. With a hand, he covers his face while she devours the guava-filled dessert confectionary.

She was even licking her fingers after eating it. He pulled on his collar, and Ash felt the stare of Juliette from her little bed off to the side, intrigued how she'd never seen Ash so flustered.

Ash gives a sheepish look, silver eyes looking into what seemed to be the blue galaxies of her own. "Heh" He took in a breath, regaining his composure as he could feel himself getting used to this now. "Well, I'm not the best baker in the world. I just followed a recipe online." He didn't even care if they were all gone, he just gave a big toothy grin. Sure, he cooked for himself on occasion. It was true of Isaac though.

When he cooked for people, he just felt happy.

Bass gives a small cry, as if to chime and let Blythe know to look at his trainer's smile. He was so touched, he could feel his eyes pricked by tears.

"Glad you liked it though." He adds in, rubbing the back of his neck with a hand. Bass' chime only added to it. Guess she was rubbing off on him already.

A team. Ashley liked having that to fall back on. In truth, he considered Isaac close enough to be likened to Jayden. Well, if Jayden were less psychotic and more humane. They covered each other's weakness. It was a safety mechanism.

The Stunfisk underneath Isaac was a wake-up call. Though... Ashley breathed a sigh of relief when not only Shockmaster, but also that Watson, along with Bongo and Conga, decided to Hydro Pump, and Wood Hammer the little slimy thing. Ashley was just glad he had a foot to the ground to complete the circuit. If that shock got near his heart, well...

It was just a good thing Isaac was made of sterner stuff.

"You good, man?" He asks quietly, a Copperajah rumbling nearby, stomping their feet as Ashley and Reinhardt turned to see. They didn't seem like they were causing trouble. Good. Ash made a sigh of relief, and looked to Shockmaster.

So long as Isaac was fine, they'd continue, but he wasn't walking on until he got the greenlight.

Years of rust reared their ugly head, as any progress he had before stagnated. Ashley was never a great Trainer. It was never his drive, nor his motivation. Other people got to have that when they grew up, a privilege not afforded to him. He only wanted to survive. He was cursed from the start.

Hearing Bongo cry out though, that did a number on the young man. His eyes fixated on the little chimp, his heart going out to him.

Even so, he kept an eye on the battle.

But unfortunately for Ashley, Bongo had hit the sand, the second X-Scissor neither guarded nor foreseen. The chimp was seemingly out cold... Ash's silver eyes coldly pulled back to the field. He didn't pay attention. Theo was crushing him.

Another Pokeball out. The Nidorino rushed outwards, and Ashley pointed to the Ingrained Lurantis. "Lace the field with toxic spikes." He was growing colder, his tone enough to have the quadraped turn back... but he did as his trainer desired. The beach, laced with his spikes he shot out, the TOXIC SPIKES all over the field, landmines ready to be triggered. Depending on how Theo moved, Ashley would find a counter strategy.

Bongo was out. But he wasn't done. Not yet... in fact, Bongo had already begun to glow. His little chimp body pulling himself up from the sands, as he starts growing taller, breaking his stick into two, drumsticks beating the sand as he jumps in place and prepares to roll out. The Grookey was becoming a Thwackey. And he was bouta play Bop-It on a mantis.

Kepler being flexible was exactly what Ash was hoping for. He stuffs his hands in his pocket. Sure, he didn't care for adventure, but at the same time, Ashley wondered how true that was. But, hearing the way he notes that Ash was cooking, that was assurance.

Even if it was just to ensure he didn't food poisoning.

"Cool. Don't worry. I'll take good care of ya." He's grinning wide, not yet realizing how forward that statement probably was. He seems too cheery to even consider food poisoning to be a problem. Best part? The recommendation by his homie. If ever there was a time to flex arms and grab each other's hands in solidarity, this was that moment. Ashley had to admit, the wingmanning was nice. Even if his cheeks were so heated. "Heh. Hope your missus isn't too jealous. Guess I need to cook for her too one of these days."

That was an idea for later. If Isaac went this far, he'd make sure to return the favor. He could see it now, bowtie and suit, candlelit dinner, champagne at the fingertips. Isaac better watch out, Ashley wasn't the type to allow his debts to accrue too high. If he was wingmanning this hard, he was gonna gonna see how hard Ashley could go.

Well. The grocery store awaits anyways, and he has to focus on feeding the two mouths in front of him.

As the cool air slaps at Ashley's face, he looks puts his hands into his pockets. "Let's kick it. Alright. Let's make some homemade sushi rolls... okay. Let's find some sashima-grade Carvanha tail, some nori, rice, and-." He thinks more about this, before turning towards Kepler. He shoots him a wholesome warm smile, making sure he feels comfortable first. "You prefer scallions, or green onions?" He turns to Isaac. "You too. Preference? Democracy rules here."

Ash already has a shopping basket in his hands. He's already on the hunt. House husband is a go.

His earlier thought of getting used to that infectious approach was nice. While he definitely had a lower energy ceiling, he definitely felt like Officer Blythe was easy to talk to. What with her being in a similar situation in terms of living arrangements. Hell, Ashley was sure his landlord wanted his ass on a silver platter. That little bit of a connection made Ashley laugh out loud. "Small world. Yeah, pretty sure after Bongo and Conga set a fire to our dumpster in the alleyway that my landlord is looking to do the same. She can be feisty for a grandma..."

Bongo seems to smirk at the story. He was a mischievous little thing, and his little sister Conga the Grookey seemed to get into just as much trouble. As he sits next to the Formantis, the little chimp holds a hand out to shake hands! However, Bass has taken refuge now on Officer Blythe's left shoulder! He makes a happy squeak, as he merely watches the officer enjoy herself. The Noibat was very excited! So much love!

Her eyes just have this glass blue look. Ashley waves a hand. "Cool. Rare to see that these days." He's happy. Someone can enjoy his cooking. After all, being essentially equivalent to a single house husband with a knack for cooking left him woeful for the hope someone else would eat what he makes. Hearing her excitement, and the way she looked like a Yamper to him about eating had Ashley's teeth show in a grin.

"You don't need to ask me. Help yourself, really. Give me your honest food review." Dammit. Yeah, he might need to see her again sometime with how enthused about everything she was.

He's sweet in how he says it, and as he leans upwards to see the camera still running, he makes a sigh of relief. So far so good.

Whoa... Ashley watches Tam hard at work, and as his jaw drops, he watches the Yamper and the Ditto listen immediately, the Ditto turning into a Yamper. And a Togekiss! Those were cute, and Ash found his lips curved into a grin, as Tam effortlessly sends them out in a one word order.

"Whoa."

It's kind of like clockwork. He seems lethargic at first, but this guy is the real deal. Kind of the type of person he wishes he could have been. That sad thought enters Ashley's mind, and when he turns his head forward to eye the Wooloo, ruffling the wool, he tastes that dreamed up fake memory.

Bittersweet.

"Yeah. I'll take care of her. Them. All of them. Not just her." He's almost a little taken aback by how nervous he seems to be now. As the silver-haired man grabs at his face, he wipes away the sweat that seems to build upon the brow.

"You got this whole thing on lockdown. Guess this is just a run-of-the-mill kind of day for you, huh?" He asks, feeling bad to be wasting his time on such a basic guard mission. That's all this was, of course.

Good luck? Ashley scowls. This piece of shit... the Lurantis comes out, and with a click of its tongue, jumps to throw an X-Scissor, and Ashley realizes quickly what he's done to himself. He wasn't the kind to do battles. Out of practice! Bongo was too, but even so he'd fight.

Hindsight is 20-20.

"Bat it away with Wood Hammer, Bongo." The attack is twofold, as Bongo claps onto the bladed mantis arms with his small log WOOD HAMMER, but the damage is already done. The blades cut into Bongo, as the chimp cries out.

Ashley has made a huge mistake.

His eyes narrow, and gritted teeth both shot towards Theo. Ashley wasn't backing down. No way in hell. This asshole was getting justice, or he'd damn himself in that same ugliness. But he wasn't going to let Theo win.

The praise was nice, but as he puts the Pokeball away, he nods. "Yeah... some Pokemon aren't so lucky to have paper tigers on them. Thanks for fending off the bug, by the way." He grins, crossing his arms and looking about. Isaac raises a good though. They had to be careful.

The further they go, the more Ash feels determined to leave with a rescue Pokemon. He already was, but now he was steadfast in determination. Reinhardt's eyes over towards Watson and Isaac. He liked the new blonde human friend. He was nice to his protector.

A Mama Excadrill protecting her young and calling a small spot of the plant home wasn't quite the rescue he had in mind. With a defeated sigh, he turns back to Isaac. "Well... let's make less like the League and let the moles enjoy their stay. Been told mothers will do crazy shit for their kids." He trails off, continuing with Bongo and Conga behind him.
