Gunner let Mila lead him deeper into the forest, away from the lights and revelry of the festival. Soon, he couldn't even hear music from the celebration. But he didn't wonder why she brought him there; no, they'd done this dance before, countless times.[break][break]

So he grinned, too, as his back hit the rough bark of a tree trunk. He got comfortable as her expert fingers undid the sash of his yukata and freed him from his pants. And as she knelt in front of him, he held his breath in anticipation.[break][break]

The pleasure was instant. Jolts of heat lanced through Gunner's body with every stroke of Mila's tongue and hands. Tension seeped from his muscles; his head rolled back against the tree, his eyes fluttered closed. A soft groan tumbled from his lips, unbidden.[break][break]

And with every passing moment, Gunner's resistance crumbled. As the pressure mounted in his loins, as Mila coaxed him closer to completion, he grew increasingly frustrated. He didn't want to finish like that, in her mouth.[break][break]

He wanted what waited between her legs.[break][break]

"Fuck. Wait," he gasped, tugging at her arm. "Get up."

Gunner's reaction to Mila's jump was automatic. He gathered her in his arms, supporting her as she wrapped her legs around his waist. Their kissing grew needy, urgent, passionate. So in-tune was he to even the most minor changes in her behavior that he knew what she wanted from him. It stirred the flames in his belly, urging him into action.[break][break]

But there was one problem: their clothing.[break][break]

"And you're mine," he growled, before biting down on her lower lip and sucking gently. But then he lowered her to the ground so she could stand on her own. "But I don't know how to undo your clothes."[break][break]

He tugged at the sash around her waist, which was snug against her body. The intricate knot at the back of it was the kind that would infuriate him until he cut clean through it with a knife—a crime he was unwilling to commit.[break][break]

"We could go to your place?" Gunner suggested, eager to show Mila just how much she was his, and he was hers.

The memory of laughter echoed in his mind, as well as the hazy image of a pristine white dress.[break][break]

"Sorry, do I know you?" he asked, hesitant. The young woman did look familiar, but he couldn't place exactly where he'd seen her before. Too many confusing recollections jumbled together in his mind.

As soon as Gunner recognized the lumbering horde for what it was—lifeless Megalopolans controlled by vines attached to their bodies—he opened a Pokéball to summon his Typhlosion.[break][break]

When she saw the enemy ahead of them, she joined Angelo's Charizard, attacking with LAVA PLUME. Scarlet flames enveloped some of the advancing Megalopolans, ripping wordless screams from their throats.[break][break]

Still, there were far too many for only two Fire-type Pokémon. Looking around, Gunner spied what looked like large, metal sticks scattered on the ground. Upon closer inspection, however, he realized they were arms.[break][break]

Celesteela's arms.[break][break]

A memory surfaced in his mind: a burst of gas, a plume of fire.[break][break]

"Gideon, help me with this!" he shouted, rushing to the nearest arm. Though it seemed to have broken off a smaller Celesteela, it was still taller than him. "We can use this as a flamethrower."[break][break]

Gunner hauled up one end of it, the front end. It was heavier than he expected.[break][break]

Gunner accepted Skyler's condolences in silence, unsure what to say. The miscarriage hadn't happened, not really. When they "woke up" back in Hoenn, mere minutes or hours after being transported to Galar, Summer had still been pregnant.[break][break]

"I never want to go through it again. Not here or in any other world or dream," Gunner said, voice quiet, gaze cast down at his beer.[break][break]

He finished his drink while Skyler tried to recount who else had been with them in their collective dream. At the mention of Pinkie, two fuzzy faces flashed in his mind's eye, but he couldn't make out details.[break][break]

"There were two women with pink hair," he confirmed with a frown, "but I don't remember their names or what they looked like."[break][break]

Gunner shook his head. "But no. My ex's name was Summer Atreides." He looked at Skyler. "Do you know her?"

When Freya chose the expert setting, Gunner knew he was about to witness a one-of-a-kind experience. He whipped his phone back out and started recording a video as soon as the mechanical Tauros began to move.[break][break]

And what a show. The golden-haired councilwoman clung doggedly as the ride tossed her from side to side with a roughness that was almost cruel. At times, Gunner thought she was about to fly off, but she adjusted her grip and held on.[break][break]

Just as he was thinking the ride was taking longer than it should to finish, it stopped. Freya slid off the bull's back and received her own plushie as a reward.[break][break]

"You looked very ridiculous," Gunner confirmed with a grin. He turned his phone around so she could watch the video. "But you were awesome, too."

Gunner's smile faltered at Gideon's question. Innocuous as it was, things had been strange lately, especially after the Battle at the Ancient Tomb.[break][break]

"Things are all right, I guess," he said at length, leaning against a countertop to watch his brother finish preparations. "I, uh, I broke up with Summer. Did I ever mention that? And Mila's back in town after—well, she's back in town."[break][break]

After Mila had disappeared one day without any clue to her whereabouts, Gunner had vented to Gideon about her for what he had anticipated was the final time. Now, however, he wasn't sure.[break][break]

"Anyway, work's been crazy. I've been hanging out with Angelo and Skyler more, too." Like in Galar, he wanted to say; the words were on the tip of his tongue. But it felt weird to share that detail, so he didn't.[break][break]

Deflecting the topic of conversation away from himself, Gunner asked, "What about you? How are you doing?"

Gunner nodded, turning away from the grotesque sight of all the Sneasel crushed by the EARTHQUAKE. He glanced upward as Navy did but didn't bother staring long, either. He'd heard about what Nihilego toxins could do.[break][break]

After recalling his Blaziken into her Pokéball, he commanded his Salamence back to the rift. They outpaced the swarm of Ultra Beasts, their flight made all the more urgent by the need to return the girl to her parents.[break][break]

They burst through the rift into Granite Cave. The dark, rocky walls felt claustrophobic as they navigated the winding tunnels, forever changed from the battle from months ago. Eventually, however, they emerged into daylight and flew back the short distance to Dewford Town.[break][break]

Gunner guided Bruin to the house he and Navy had visited earlier that day. He wondered if the couple was still inside, grieving.[break][break]

"You get off first and I'll hand the kid down to you," Gunner said to the gym leader. "It's better if you're the one seen returning her, not me."[break][break]

The residents needed to believe in their local law enforcement, the people who lived beside them day-to-day. They couldn't care less about an agency of a distant federal government.

Gunner followed behind Wolfgang, shutting the door behind him. He paused a moment beside the bed to step out of his own pants, though his eyes were fixated upon the other man's body. Fully naked, Gunner crawled onto the mattress, drawing himself on top of Wolfgang.[break][break]

Some time later…

Breathless and sticky with sweat and other fluids, Gunner stared at the ceiling of an unfamiliar bedroom, lying on his back next to Wolfgang. A blissful fog wrapped around his brain, but he was coming down fast.[break][break]

His first instinct was to turn toward Wolfgang for a cuddle but stopped himself. This wasn't like all the times Gunner had snuggled mila alexopoulos after doing the deed. For all he knew, Wolfgang was going to kick him out any second. Though… he'd mentioned "all night," right?[break][break]

The blonde glanced sideways at the brunette, suddenly awkward, unsure of what to say.

While Freya attempted to catch a Magikarp, Gunner took out his phone and snapped a picture of the Skitty toy. He sent it to mila alexopoulos with an accompanying text:[break][break]

Look, it reminds me of you. Isn't it cute? I'll drop it off at your apartment later.

He looked up just in time to see Freya hand the net back to the carnie. "Yeah, and I think my friend will like it, too. I'm going to stop by her place after this to give it to her."[break][break]

Putting away his phone, Gunner looked around at the other games and attractions.[break][break]

"But in the meantime, there must be something you can win. What about… that?" He pointed at Tauros Riding, where a young man was scrambling to stay on the machine's back. "That must be like riding a dragon in the middle of battle, right?"[break][break]

He shot her a cheeky grin.

As Navy rushed toward him and his Salamence, Gunner reached out a hand to help hoist him onto Bruin's back. "I got you! Bruin, up!"[break][break]

Once the Dragon-type felt the weight of a third person on his back, he launched himself into the air with a great flap of his crimson wings, clipping a Sneasel with STEEL WING at the same time.[break][break]

Below them, Caelia remained in the middle of battle, lashing out with THUNDER PUNCH and FLAMETHROWER to keep the Sneasel at bay. She acknowledged the Garchomp with a nod when he emerged from his Pokéball.[break][break]

In Gunner's arms, the little girl stirred. His grip around her tightened to ensure she wouldn't fall.

Considering his earlier training with angelo vestri, the agent guessed that Avatarship did not come with instant mastery over their powers. They had to practice. It came as no surprise to him that Penelope's situation was no different.[break][break]

Gunner stepped back when Penelope broke away from him to concentrate. He turned to his Pokémon, who had done their best to contain the lava flows. Plumes of steam filled the office where the molten material had solidified and was starting to cool.[break][break]
