THE ULTRA CRATER IS A LARGE EXPANSE UNDERNEATH A YELLOW SKY. In between thick, almost impassable jungles, craters filled with green fields and alien plants lay. What appears to be metal pipe-like roots grow out the rock of crater walls. Geysers dot this alien landscape, occasionally expelling shrieking steam.[break][break]

The world is frequented by earthquakes, causing odd red monoliths of rock to quake throughout the realm. Oddly, the Ultra Thicket possesses very fertile soil. In the distance, a large mountainous expanse can be seen, though the range does not seem too high.

🗺️ angelo vestri will be able to capture a CELESTEELA or KARTANA during this expedition. he may consider capturing an infantile celesteela or more a docile kartana; however, catching one may incur the wrath of more mature ultra beasts in the realm and cause multiple earthquakes, eruptions, or celesteela launches toward your location.

[attr="class","wownewmain"]He owed them a trip to the moon after their last visit was cut short.

It didn’t take long to organise another excursion to the Ultra Crater, by now it feels routine meeting the Graves brothers outside the rift. Its wild expanse and ways becoming increasingly familiar to the pilot, bamboo fields and craters slowly becoming filled in his charts. Pieces of the puzzle slotting together.

Although none so as close as he felt towards the two who had become his frequent travel companions.

Something had changed between himself, Gunner and Gideon since their last visit. As they walk through the bamboo thicket towards where the celesteela launch, Angelo envisions trekking through a maze of pine. Their feet crunching on snow as opposed to leaves, soggy with humidity.

Its comfortable. Easy.

Their little trek is nostalgic of a time left behind. Where the memories have become somewhat blurred, like looking at an old cottage through a swirl of snowflakes.

“Here we are. As promised,” he says as they return to the abnormal celestial body in the Ultra Crater sky. Their celesteela ride has already jetted off. “How're you guys holdin' up? Feeling any intense giddiness this time?”

Angelo's smile is one of mirth over the memory of their last visit.

"Not this time, thankfully," Gunner replied as he released his Kartana from a Pokéball. The adolescent Pokémon zipped around him, having bonded with its trainer in the short time since its capture. He supposed that was the benefit of obtaining it when it was still young.[break][break]

Gunner scanned their surroundings, then turned to his Ultra Beast. "Can you act as our guide, Taliesin?"[break][break]

The Kartana bobbed up and down in confirmation, then floated off, leading them up a hill upon the moon's surface. Gunner followed, climbing steadily. He did not need to look back over his shoulder to ensure Angelo and Gideon were following.[break][break]

The three men had grown closer — not just during the recent Ultra Crater trips, but after the battle at the Ancient Tomb, too. If Gunner were asked to explain how, though, he could not.[break][break]

"No. And please don't remind me." Gideon groaned, following behind Angelo, his brother, and the KARTANA guiding them. The heckling he'd endured, especially from Gunner Graves, after their last trip to the moon had been especially brutal.[break][break]

Moon-angels? Really, Gideon? He'd never live it down.[break][break]

"Do you hear that?" He asked the two men as they neared the crest of the hill. From here, it sounded like intense winds and chiming metal. Realizing this, apprehension clouded his expression. [break][break]

While he cared for Gunner deeply as his younger sibling and always worried for his wellbeing, lately similar feelings had been extended to angelo vestri. Gidon couldn't quite pinpoint the origin of this deep concern; it felt hazy and unstable whenever he tried.[break][break]

So, as they topped the moon ridge and witnessed the CELESTIAL STORM occurring in the canyon below, worry for his companions' safety was evident in the lines that creased the professor's face.

[attr="class","wownewmain"]Unbeknownst to them, the three men weren’t the only creatures that follow in Taliesin’s thin shadow. Keeping its distance but decisively tailing them, is another juvenile Kartana. After aimlessly wandering alone since the Graves brother’s had taken its two kin, sight of them now urges the youngster to approach.

Not like they notice, too focused on the celestial storm that pools within a moon crater.

“Can’t say I’ve ever seen a storm like that before,” marvels the pilot, watching as the green tinted wind sings as if blades were clashing together. It sounds like it’ll tear them apart. Angelo is unwisely intrigued.

He glances towards their guide. “And this is where you want us to go? Down there?”

Its blustery edge swells then, strong winds expanding out towards the lip of the crater as if attempting to sweep the trio down into its basin. To take the choice from them. Angelo lifts an arm, shielding his eyes from a jagged edge of metal that bites past.

“Watch out!”

Their Kartana watcher meanwhile, finds itself easily dragged into the mercies of the current. With scarcely detectable force, the paper ultra beast slaps against Angelo’s back - half stuck, half clinging.

Much to the ire of the other Kartana on the moon, that another of their kin was potentially being ‘kidnapped’.

ANGELO VESTRI will be able to capture a CELESTEELA or KARTANA during this expedition. he may consider capturing an infantile celesteela or more a docile kartana.

Gunner stared wide-eyed at the tempest whirling in the canyon below them. Descending into its midst would surely kill them, if not gravely injure them. Taliesin fluttered its arms with enthusiasm, but Gunner shook his head.[break][break]

"We can't," he said to the Kartana. "We'd get sliced up alive by those things."[break][break]

He pointed at the long beams of emerald-colored metal and bamboo that swirled furiously beneath them.[break][break]

As if in defiance, the winds swelled and battered the trio of humans. Gunner stumbled, caught off guard, and fell to one knee. His Kartana slapped against the side of his head and stuck there. Slowly, he peeled the Pokémon off his face.[break][break]

As he did, something gleamed in the corner of his vision. Looking again, Gunner saw it was the calm eye of the storm. Something within its depths glinted with a bright, green light.[break][break]

"Look, what do you think that is?" he said, pointing again. This time, he guided his companions' eyes to the object in the storm's core.[break][break]

There was something so inherently unnatural about the broiling storm ahead of them. It was immense, but also... concentrated in such an odd way. Confined to the boundaries of the moon crater.[break][break]

Gunner noticed it first. A deep green within the eye of the storm. Another anomaly added to the equation, tipping Gideon's opinion even further toward this being something outside the bounds of conventional natural phenomena. [break][break]

"Something tells me this is another Megalopolan remnant." Much like the bunkers had been. Was this squall hiding something behind its biting winds?[break][break]

"Let me try this..." After releasing his PIDGEOT, GIDEON GRAVES immediately activated his Key Stone to trigger the bird's Mega Evolution. In this state, she was stronger, faster, more agile. All perks Poppy would need to successfully follow her trainer's orders.[break][break]

"Fly above the storm, if possible. Once you get to the center it should be less tumultuous. Destroy whatever green object is there."

[attr="class","wownewmain"]Peering beneath the shelter of his arm that he held in front of his face, Angelo watches alongside the brother's as the mega pidgeot ascends. Disappearing straight towards the glittering eye of the storm.

Whatever she had done out there, amongst the ripping wind and slicing debris, it had worked. Gradually the howling, emerald tempest begins to subside. Vortex slowing until it all but vanishes, calmness settling over the surface of the moon as if it had been sucked up into a hungry storm drain.

Angelo lowers his arm, looking out towards the exposed crater curiously as heavy silence takes over. Whatever the green gem had been, it no longer twinkled in the distance. Likely destroyed. Shame.

But that wasn't all...

Silhouettes stand like statues on the grey, barren field. Too far out to make out.

“Well, that doesn't look suspicious, does it?” An eyebrow is arched, glancing towards his friends in mirth before, naturally, taking a step forward.

Slicing wind stops Angelo before he goes into the crater. Glancing over his shoulder, a blizzard of white paper figures swarm towards them. Sharp edges whistling through the air like an angry group of beedrill.

It's just like their last visit.

“Here we go again,” he mumbles under his breath, unaware of his unwilling kartana kidnapping as he slaps an encouraging hand against Gunner Graves and GIDEON GRAVES's back. “Let's go!”

It's more like a push, really.

Catching one may incur the wrath of more mature ultra beasts in the realm and cause multiple earthquakes, eruptions, or celesteela launches toward your location.

Angelo's slap on the back had the strength of a proper push, sending Gunner stumbling down the steep slope of the crater. With a shout, he slid part of the way until he lost his balance and tumbled the rest of the way to the floor. He landed unceremoniously on his side with a grunt of pain.[break][break]

His Kartana floated down with ease, chirping softly to inquire if he was all right.[break][break]

"I'm okay," Gunner reassured his Pokémon before shouting, "Asshole!" at Angelo.[break][break]

Slowly, he picked himself up, keeping an eye on the swarm of paper-white Ultra Beasts flying in a cloud overhead. None of them had broken away to follow him down the crater's slope.[break][break]

In the distance, the unfamiliar figures stirred.

"Wai—!" Unsurprisingly, Gideon tumbled down with even less grace than his brother. Where Gunner landed on his side, the professor had flipped square onto his back with a heavy groan. [break][break]

"Why?" Gideon asked angelo vestri, exasperated, until he opened his eyes and saw the upside-down swarm of KARTANA at the lip of the crater above them.[break][break]

"A little warning would have been nice, Angelo." He grumbled, though the sentiment was unserious. Rubbing the back of his head as he stood to his feet, Gideon took a moment to survey their new surroundings, now that the storm had subsided. [break][break]

Poppy screeched overhead, circling around strange shapes closer to the center of the crater... but getting nearer by the second.[break][break]

"What...?" Soon enough the figures revealed themselves to be the grotesque, semi-decomposed bodies of Megalopolans. Their erratic movements appeared unnatural, as if they were no longer sentient. From their flesh vines protruded, hinting at the mechanism of control.

He’d walk beside them through worse, he feels deep in his bones.

(Something told him he already had.)

“So I’ve been told,” he flashes Gunner a sharp row of teeth. Unapologetic.

Peeling itself from off his back, one little hitchhiker finally manages to free itself after being disorientated from the storm. The kartana hones in on Taliesin, greeting the other tiny ultra beast with a series of rapid chips.

Its easy for Angelo to divert his attention from a seemingly non-hostile ultra beast, when the ambling shapes in the distance get close enough for details to be made out.

Angelo finishes Gideon’s perplexed, stunned question for him.

“The fuck…?”

Megalopolans. Only their expressions look beyond them to the stars, their bodies weighed down with snaking vines and rotting flesh, peeling off their lurching forms. Lifeless puppets and yet guided still by hunger.

He grimaces. “Here comes the 'welcome to the moon committee'.”

Unclipping a pokeball from his belt as the aliens lumber forward, Angelo releases a winged creature into the air in a burst of scarlet energy and a charizard's blue inferno flames, roared towards the Megalopolan horde.

As soon as Gunner recognized the lumbering horde for what it was—lifeless Megalopolans controlled by vines attached to their bodies—he opened a Pokéball to summon his Typhlosion.[break][break]

When she saw the enemy ahead of them, she joined Angelo's Charizard, attacking with LAVA PLUME. Scarlet flames enveloped some of the advancing Megalopolans, ripping wordless screams from their throats.[break][break]

Still, there were far too many for only two Fire-type Pokémon. Looking around, Gunner spied what looked like large, metal sticks scattered on the ground. Upon closer inspection, however, he realized they were arms.[break][break]

Celesteela's arms.[break][break]

A memory surfaced in his mind: a burst of gas, a plume of fire.[break][break]

"Gideon, help me with this!" he shouted, rushing to the nearest arm. Though it seemed to have broken off a smaller Celesteela, it was still taller than him. "We can use this as a flamethrower."[break][break]

Gunner hauled up one end of it, the front end. It was heavier than he expected.[break][break]

This 'Welcome to the Moon' committee did not give off the chill vibes that Gideon was expecting, considering the moon angels and all they'd made on their last trip. [break][break]

In fact, their entire expedition this time around had been much more treacherous. Case in point, the Megalopolan plant zombie shuffling toward their group — and Gideon in particular — right this moment. They were fast than he'd first suspected at a distance.[break][break]

A hand went to his belt for another Poké Ball, but the professor found it to be unnecessary. Alongside angelo vestri's CHARIZARD, the professor's PIDGEOT had an aerial advantage and was able to dive bomb those that got too close. An AIR SLASH or two was more than enough to cut through vines and crumbling flesh.[break][break]

Numbers were not on their side, however. More zombies kept appearing, seemingly out of no where. Where were they coming from? In the distance, Gideon thought he saw a metallic gleam at the center of the crater.[break][break]

"Gideon, help me with this!"

Hearing Gunner's call, the elder Graves brother rushed to the CELESTEELA limb that was in the other man's arms. He'd help lift it as best he could. But really, a makeshift flamethrower?[break][break]

"You've got to be kidding me!" The logistics made sense, but that didn't make their current predicament feel less like a scene from a B-list action movie.

[attr="class","wownewmain"]In his one small act of mercy before they lit the moon on fire, Angelo reaches out to grab the adolescent kartana. Thankfully, it chooses not to slice his fingers off as he tucks its thin, paper body into the safety of his jacket interior.

“It’s a good a plan as any!” Angelo follows up from GIDEON GRAVES ’s apprehension for a plan that, actually, he thought was kind of resourceful. Badass. “I’ll keep them off your backs!”

As Gunner Graves encourages his brother to rig together a makeshift flamethrower out of severed celesteela limbs, Angelo dashes over to Shrike.

Hopping onto her back, they take off. Using their aerial advantage to pick off the lurching aliens before they could reach the brothers.

There was only so many they could burn however, when they crawled like an unending swarm of locusts. “Guys? Don't keep me in suspense, how's it lookin'?” He calls down.

Its there, from the air, that Angelo spots something shimmering in the distance. Roaring flames casting an orange glow over the dull grey surface of the moon, that catches on an object metallic and square, dug into the lunar crust.
