Each of the dragons understands, on some instinctive level, that they sit in the presence of a dragonslayer when Princess takes to the field. Their resolve shakes, as it so often does when young teething dragons encounter fairy types for the first time. Navy can’t help but smile, a stray thought of his Garchomps first dealing with a moonblast playing across his mind.[break][break]

Leviathan’s hydro pump seems less a pump and more a precise, devilishly sharp blast of water across a vast distance, aimed right at Zeit. The Arcanine’s moment of rest beneath a morning sun might well prove his salvation in the match.[break][break]
Smaug is surrounded, and he senses the end is near. Only good cheer keeps him up. Though Zeit’s morning sun is no true gout of ancient sunlight, it kindles his innate protosynthesis, if for but a moment. Dragons do not, as a rule, go gently into the night. Dewford has a protector, and he feels comfortable leaving the place so long as she is there guarding the land. Between Thomas Benoit’s Tapu Koko and Zacian, Dewford is in good hands.[break][break]
For now, he has to test a blade’s metal. Ascalon comes free once more, glowing anew. Its light is gentle, contrasting with the red land all around them. Squinting, Navy tries to will himself to [i[not[/i[ cut the blade as it flies in a precise arc through the air.[break]

Though Gwyar speaks with dignity befitting one of his station, there is a subtle implication to his words. Their task is severe. The hour is late. Yet, even still, his words carry in them what Navy thinks is a hint of mischief; the sort middle-aged men get up to late at night when they’ve had a few drinks in them and one of them says a sentence that starts with wouldn’t it be cool if.[break][break]
He doesn’t mind, and some part of him wishes they lived in a world where Gwyar and him could mess around like that. Instead, they’ll stress test his sword, push it to its limits, hone it, ready Ascalon for war. It must be ready, lest Mossdeep and soon all of Hoenn falls.[break][break]
The sensation of being teleported is a familiar one. It reminds him of the days where Roland, his brave Iron Valiant, wore the skin of a living thing and not cold steel. Navy exists in one place in one moment, and in the next he is somewhere else entirely. It seems to him a rapid transmutation of matter, vicious alchemy, and they stand upon fresh soil.[break]
“Man.” He coughs. “I never get used to that.” Having never seen the gym leader’s forge, he looks around, trying to get his bearings in unfamiliar territory.

Navy stands there in the electric glow, so focused on offense that he hardly notices the attack coming until it’s too late. Not one, but two figures emerge from the Nihilego terastallized by she who would be their shepherd. The first is her father, fallen to one knee, exhausted from a battle beyond time. His eyes adjust to the darkness, a streak of white running down his hair and into his beard. Gray eyes find red eyes. In them is surprise, bringing him back to his feet.[break][break]
“Crystal?” Even before the second syllable is voiced, he knows he is wrong. Not Crystal. “Baki. Baki, I’m back.”[break][break]
And not just him. Flying out of the Nihilego, crowned in glory, blade in her maw, is Zacian. The Hero of Many Battles, long vanished after the battle at the ancient tomb, returns to fulfill her duty. Her golden eyes look up at the primordial glacier advancing towards them. Some might call this a hopeless battle, but not Navy. Not while they all stand together.[break][break]
Howard shouts from across the sand. Navy and his Pokemon finish the scream.[break][break]
“AIN’T OVER YET.”[break][break]
Those spoken words are all the cue Zacian needs. Power gathers along Ascalon. This is a blade with the power to slay giants, reforged for precisely this purpose. She skips through the air, leaving errant electricity in her step. She marches forward, cutting out a path to victory.[break][break]
Her behemoth blade strikes Regice, its edge smashing into the ice before she skids past him, heavy armored paws pressing into the sand.

Wingull, by and large, hunt for easy prey. Sometimes, that takes the form of plant life. Other times, small Pokemon suffice. They swoop, acting on instinct, only to be stopped by solid stone. It halts them as if a mandate from heaven itself has wrought the stone from soft sand. Beaks crack against the stone. Some of them fly up just in time to quark their protest. They see what’s coming and are in no position to do anything about the coming storm.[break][break]
Electricity surges from Chamomile, the energy anathema to all creatures of the sky. It scorches them, gives them a wake-up call as to how hard-fought this meal will be. Wingull are not stupid birds. Their eyes look to Airi’s belt, seeing her other pokeballs and the Garchomp lounging in the sand bank like a lazy father.[break][break]
Like any creature with good sense, they decide to be reasonable. Flicking their wings up, they decide to cut their losses. A few Pelipper, larger and wiser, hover above. They are far more patient predators, willing to wait out the humans.[break][break]
They, too, fall victim to a misdirection. While their eyes are focused on Airi, Chamomile, and Navy, a hidden play has moved across the field. A shadow slips in and out from beneath the stone barrier. A handful of hatchlings are scooped up at a time, ferried across the sand lightning quick, and deposited in the surf. A few of the babies take their first tentative steps into life’s place for them in its circle.[break][break]
“Good taste in Pokemon.” He says with folded arms. “Not my style, but Chamomile and you suit each other. Everyone underestimates small Pokemon until one shocks ‘em” As he eyes the circling birds, his expression softens. “And none of this sir stuff, either.” Soft laughter accompanies the last syllable, a sign that thing are going well.
