The dragon’s gold eyes open wide. There is nothing else to be done, no other reaction. Worn and weary from his own attacks, he is caught in the consumption. The black dragon becomes part of something greater than itself. Genetic code, the makeup of who and what this creature is on a fundamental level, is laid bare for the creature that has absorbed him.[break][break]
But with them comes memories, embedded deep in the DNA. Memories of consumption, of love, adoration, and hatred. His DNA tells the tale of his first love, a mother dead by the hands of humans before his egg hatched. The DNA sings of the taste of her flesh, the only gift she ever gave him.[break][break]
It speaks of his offspring, and of strife, and all the moments that eventually led to this one. Everything he was, now belongs to this creature.[break][break]
But, even then, as he is absorbed, he rages. The dragon understands how to do little else.

Good, evil, and all other human constructs matter little beneath the sea. Crystals light up, a poison mist rolls in, the light screen protecting poor helpless humans. They play with things they do not understand, they mine a sleeping god for minerals.[break][break]
Cast in the light of the crystals are a thousand different worlds. Old worlds, worlds that will never be, worlds so far beyond human imagination as to be unknowable. From the mist rides a man on a Spectrier, a figure that once loyally served Ollie in another life.[break][break]
Here, he simply raises his gun.[break][break]
“Ollie!” Navy screams. An anchor shot launches, shooting right for the ranger. The sheriff’s Urshifu interposes, his fist slamming against the chain. It breaks off, flying into the mist. It buys them a moment, just a moment, as ghostly light gathers in the Spectrier’s mouth.[break][break]
“I’ll cover you. I think if we can knock ‘em back into the mist, they’ll die.”[break][break]
If they want to see tomorrow, they must survive today.
