"A piece of food?" Remiel offers, reaching out with his granola bar in hand. Unfortunately, the CUBONE he has knelt beside rejects this offer. With a THRASH of its bone, it smacks the royal's hand and granola bar away.[break][break]

However, this act enrages the Cofagrigus lurking in the bushes. It leaps out from its cover to BODY PRESS the little creature as punishment. When it rolls off, Remiel finds the Cubone unconscious but doesn't bother to capture it.[BREAK][BREAK]

"Great idea," Remiel nods, reaching into his pack as he fishes for something. He wasn't so sure the barrier could withstand the pressure of the trap (should it be sprung) but he supposed he'd seen such protective measures defend against far more frightening threats in the past. Gods, even. Though not always to great effect. Regardless, they could use any insurance they could get.[BREAK][BREAK]

Leafing through the pages of a leather-bound journal he pulls out, the archaeologist mutters himself. "Now if I remember correctly, we need to... ah, yes. We must follow the tenets of the desert to pass." He states, turning his journal around to show Eva the correct order of symbols.[BREAK][BREAK]

"PRAISE, WORK, BUILD, REJOICE."

[BREAK]

Clasping his book shut, he returns it to his pack before rolling up his sleeves. "Stick closely now and step exactly as I step. These ancient booby traps can be rather... sensitive, after a millennia or so." The royal warns with a nervous twitch of a smile as he proceeds with the first deliberate step forward. Thankfully... nothing happens.[BREAK][BREAK]

As he proceeds to the next symbol, however, Remiel resumes their conversation from earlier in an attempt to lighten the tension. "You asked what Pokémon I expected from you? I don't know... I was thinking a Sunflora or Boltund. Perhaps an Audino to help with your work." He adds, carefully applying pressure on the second plate before taking that next step. "I've only ever known Mr. Mime's as butlers."[BREAK][BREAK]

Sensing the danger ahead, the SKARMORY attacks first, subverting the outcome of the FUTURE SIGHT to strike the Hypno's defending arm. The bipedal tapir groans in pain as said arm falls limp to its side, stumbling backward as it shakes its nose aggressively at the other. Then, with a flick of its wrist, it tries to DISABLE the Skarmory.[BREAK][BREAK]

"If you were really who you say you are, surrendering yourself to my scrutiny wouldn't have been so difficult!" Remiel exclaims, crossing the gap between himself and Montgomery James swiftly as his right-hand crackles with electricity. "Only a ROCKET would attack in response!"[BREAK][BREAK]

Suddenly, his crackling hand dives forward, attempting to seize the deputy's shoulder tightly and deliver a debilitating electric shock.[BREAK][BREAK]

Down, down, down they go. Deeper into the depths of the cave. So deep that, eventually, the ambient light ceases to be at all. Without the glow of his Garchomp's snout, they would no doubt find themselves in complete darkness.[BREAK][BREAK]

That, coupled with the strange moaning that echoes throughout the passageways, might have been enough to turn away your typical explorer. But Remiel was nothing if not prideful about his work. He was used to the shadows, the dust, and the strange sounds one might come across in the field. It was why his sub-specialty was Ghost-types.[BREAK][BREAK]

Slowing to a stop, the archaeologist smiles and points down at a partially obscured stone-paved trail that Saragosa illuminates. "Look here. We've finally reached it: the boundaries of the HEBI NO AWA TEMPLE." He informs his cousin before looking back up at the path ahead... and enduring a sharp chill that suddenly runs up his spine.[BREAK][BREAK]

And, as his Illumina Garchomp increases the brightness of its light, the reason for this chill is soon revealed: a blood-stained handprint printed against the cave wall just ahead before smearing.[BREAK][BREAK]

The glow of a PUMPKABOO's eyes greets them from the bushes. Remiel inches closer to inspect said glow, but the little pumpkin pops out suddenly, surprising him with a TRICK-OR-TREAT that nearly throws him off balance. Amused, the ghost bounces around with laughter.[break][break]

Said laughter ceases, however, the moment dark hands seize it. Instead, it squeals in terror as Remiel's Cofagrigus draws it in and breathes a DARK PULSE upon it. The Pumpkaboo falls unconscious shortly after that, and Remiel catches it.[break][break]

The presence of UNOWN startles the crown prince enough to rise from his seat. Earl Grey, too, swiftly takes his place beside his master, summoning the shadows of a PHANTOM FORCE that surround the teacup like an aura. The WHITE-HAIRED LADY OF THE DRK TRIAD was known to Remiel, but her presence here was nonetheless a surprise.[break][break]

How Navy moves on so casually after the dark announcement, with seemingly no interest in the contents of the briefcase, is beyond him. Though Eva Morales does bring up a good point about THE CLOUD, despite the traumatic memory associated with it. Something he would forever share with luka chêne and others who had opted to sacrifice themselves.[break][break]

"I know GRANITE CAVE and its ruins well," The royal finally speaks, ignoring a concerned look from his Sinistea butler for a moment as it acknowledges a few strands of stark WHITE HAIR. "I can assist there, too. And if we make contact with MALDACENA or gain access to THE CLOUD again, I think that'd certainly be in our favor. Aside from that, however, I must also ask... what is in the briefcase, Commissioner Goode?"[break][break]

Earl Grey's efforts to draw his attention to the hair are put aside for the moment as said briefcase is soon opened, revealing a uniquely fascinating PLATE. Curiosity sparks in the archaeologist's eyes and he can't help but draw himself closer to it, pulling out his round black glasses as he reads the inscription upon its back. "THE CREATION TRIO is one of my main points of study. I have the original SEA PLATE in my care. But this... I've never seen anything like this before."[break][break]

It was distinctly HISUIAN... something he knew Yuina Higashi could help identify. "These last two lines here... they appear newer. Like someone took a sharp tool of some sort to it and inscribed their additions to it." He surmises out loud, almost reaching out to trace the symbols with his fingers but stopping himself to avoid a hubbub.[break][break]

Finally capable of pulling his analytical gaze away from the plate and its text, the EXACTING looks up to dahlia goode as he adjusts his glasses evenly.[break][break]

"Eva Morales makes a good point. With your permission, may I study this a bit more closely at the museum for a day? Perhaps I can help shed some light on its origins and mysteries."[break][break]

SARAGOSA senses it, too— more so than the humans. The horns at the sides of the Garchomp's head serve as acute sensory receptors, after all, and had long been believed to sense things of a supernatural nature as well. Remiel had always turned his nose up at the thought when he was younger, but he had since learned that the magical nature of dragons could not be underestimated.[BREAK][BREAK]

"It's a wild Pokémon somewhere. Probably just hungry or in pain." The royal surmises with a nod, taking a moment to reassess his surroundings once more. His gut told him that something was certainly wrong... but there was no point in scaring his younger cousin until they knew for sure what they were dealing with. "Let's keep moving."[BREAK][BREAK]

Funny, he thinks. A few years ago, he would have had no qualms about alarming her. He was colder then. A lot more detached. Then he'd met Isra Nightingale and she'd shown him that he was doing it all wrong...[BREAK][BREAK]

Moving through the chamber of teeth (as he liked to call it), they go down a steep corridor he liked to call the 'gullet' as his Garchomp lights the way. "The ruins aren't too far down now. We'll be there soon."[BREAK][BREAK]

But the moaning... the moaning only seems to intensify.

It isn't long before the craggy and undefined walls of the cave's interior give way to polished stone and hieroglyphs. If Remiel was leading a tour, he might have stopped to point out the story of the Desert King Ammon, the great labours he had commissioned to his people, and the treaty he had made with the Great Darmanitan Sages. But, alas, this was a rescue mission.[BREAK][BREAK]

"It's been some time since we've last gone out on an assignment together," The royal says, his elegant voice echoing throughout the dark chambers ahead. "It's nice to see you again, Eva." He turns to grant the doctor a warm smile just then but finds his gaze immediately shifting toward her ILLUMINA MR. MIME instead.[BREAK][BREAK]

And, though he doesn't yelp, the Mr. Mime's strange expression does manage to make the prince flinch. "Aha... Illumina, is it? Not the sort of Pokémon I expected from you." Remiel chuckles, turning back to the long hallway in front of them instead.[BREAK][BREAK]

As GALAHAD shoos away wild SPINARAK with a wave of his fiery arm, however, torching their multitude of little webs all the while, they soon come across a section of the hallway that is wider than the rest of it. The floor before them is built up of tiles with varying symbols. While his companion might take a moment to admire them, however, the archaeologist draws her attention upward with a point:[BREAK][BREAK]

"Look there."[break][break]

Had Alexandra Briarwood been a less experienced thief, the sharp eyes of the EXACTING might have spotted her, too. But she always seemed to know where the shadows hung strongest. They embraced and shielded her from view despite being one inch away from discovery.[BREAK][BREAK]

"T-That's right," Marley responds, turning back to the carrots he'd been cutting earlier. "Now why don't you sit down a spell? Stew should be ready soon."[BREAK][BREAK]

Although reluctantly, given the strange feeling his instincts can't shake off, Remiel eventually moves toward the dinner table. He is aware that the conflict with TEAM ROCKET has made him a bit paranoid as of late. His encounter and subsequent misunderstanding with Montgomery James was proof enough. Perhaps he did need to relax a bit.[BREAK][BREAK]

When he notices a large pile of chopped firewood in the backyard, however, peeking out from one of the windows against that wall, he stops. Then, turning to the fireplace, he realizes the coals therein are faintly smoldering. "Minnie never did care to waste the fireplace on just the two of you, did she? It was reserved for guests. I'm surprised you both ran out of wood."[BREAK][BREAK]

The chopping of the carrots slowly comes to a stop again, but this time Marley does not turn around.[BREAK][BREAK]

"By the way, the lavatory is upstairs, isn't it?"[BREAK][BREAK]

"It's out of order."

[BREAK]

"That's quite alright. I'd like to take a look in the mirror, that's all."[BREAK][BREAK]

"Y-You can't go up there..." Marley stammers, gripping the knife handle in his hand tightly.

[BREAK]

Noticing this and immediately suspect at the co-owner's words, Remiel's eyes narrow. Then, with an awkward and wavering smile, Marley takes a deep breath and turns around to face him again. "You haven't paid for a room! Second floor's for paying customers only, your Highness. You know that."[BREAK][BREAK]

A long and profound silence fills the room. Then, without warning, Remiel spawns a LIGHTNING STILETTO between two fingers and casts it toward the shadows on the second balcony. "WAIT! NO!" Marley cries out.[BREAK][BREAK]

The cast stiletto comes dangerously close to striking Alexandra Briarwood but instead embeds itself into the wooden wall, illuminating the second-floor balcony with its blue electrical glow.[BREAK][BREAK]

"I'm not in the habit of dumbing myself down for strangers," The royal coldly snaps back as electricity slowly begins to spark off his body like miniature fireworks. "Recall your Skarmory and surrender. Now. Or I'll be forced to subdue you myself."[BREAK][BREAK]

Suddenly, the Hypno's eyes begin to glow as it perceives a possible future where the Skarmory took to the skies again before suffering a cramp, crashing into the branches of a nearby tree as the two humans engaged.[BREAK][BREAK]

With a short nod and an excited gleam in his eye, Remiel leads the way as his Garchomp follows closely behind with its illuminating snout. The scent of the salty brine seems to grow thicker as they proceed. The sound of dripping water echoes without pause down the craggy corridors of this place. Fang-shaped stalagmites and stalactites greet them from below and above, respectively.[BREAK][BREAK]

Every shadow seems like something lying in wait— every footstep they make sounds too loud. For some reason, there is an oppressive air filling these tunnels. Elise might not know the difference, but her cousin certainly did. After all, he'd been here before and didn't remember feeling this the first time he'd come to pay a visit.[BREAK][BREAK]

Raising a single hand, the universal gesture to 'stop' without saying a word, the Calcifet's find themselves in a circular chamber, surrounded by some of the aforementioned stalagmites and stalactites. It almost looked like they'd been eaten by a GUZZLORD here, trapped in a mouth with a thousand teeth with seemingly no escape.[BREAK][BREAK]

"Do you hear that?" Remiel whispers, eyeing the shadows.[BREAK][BREAK]

Faintly, a guttural moan.

The FENNEKIN hides in the bushes from the shadow it saw out from the corner of its eye. Desperate to return to the berry that it had left behind, however, it doesn't run away. Instead, it cautiously sneaks back from whence it came... then leaps in with a FIRE SPIN to try and capture its pursuer.[break][break]

Annoyed, Akhenaten rises upward, standing 9 feet tall and wildly flailing his arms about before crashing down upon the fox with a BODY PRESS. Remiel arrives on the scene to find the little fox unconscious when it rolls over. And, having sympathy for it, the royal captures it within the confines of a Luxury Ball.[break][break]

They find it near the center of a dry lakebed. The GALARIAN CORSOLA is a testament to the life that used to exist in this basin. Now it stands there, crooked and haunting, waiting for the end.[break][break]

However, when it notices Remiel, it seems to rage. Thankfully, before it can HEX the prince, his Cofagrigus leaps out from the bushes to MUMMIFY it. Afterward, catching it within the confines of a Luxury Ball is easy enough.[break][break]
